Characters / Re: Ami and Mami Futami - TWINS?!
« on: February 05, 2013, 04:27:58 am »
Maybe not the place to post this, but it seemed more appropriate than it's own thread-

Can anyone explain some of the twins' nicknames to me? I understand Mikimiki (Because she speaks in the third person, right?) and Harurun (Because she trips a lot?) and I think Hibikin (Like a pack of animals) and the self-explanatory onee-chans, but...

What about Nai-chan, their nickname for Hibiki in the Puchimasu manga? Ricchan, Iorin, Ohimechin, or any other I didn't list? (Or got wrong!)

I don't know about the others, but "ohime" in "ohime-sama" is a proper way of addressing a princess, so it makes sense for the Silver Queen. The others may just be diminutives, like how Nicky is a pet name for Nicholas.

That brings up an interesting, tangential question. Apparently Takane has knowledge of German, comes from wealth, and given royal nicknames. Could they have a connection?

I got to see snow!! <3

Nope, nope, nope, too close to the edge.

Amazing scenery.

I got Ace Combat Ass(ault) Horizon Enhanced Edition.  Textures are still the same from the console counterpart so they look a little bad, but it's nice to see the game running in 60fps on my display's resolution.  Jet combat missions are decent (DFM is a dumb system but it's ok if you try to only use it on TGT_LEADs) but door gunner and attack chopper missions are terrible.

Sadly, everything you've said is the prevailing sentiment in the community. The dogfighting sections are decent, although DFM / ASM is not my favorite feature by any means, but the helicopter missions are borderline unplayable. This is especially true when using a flight stick, as there's no option to adjust deadzone for sticks. On graphics, low polygon counts don't necessarily equate to bad texturing, but as soon as your aircraft begins to slow down and you can finally take in the scenery, the awful texturing work becomes apparent.

To think in im@s 1 she didn't know how to use (or what was) an MP3 player.

Ritsuko's disappointment when Azusa-san pulled the twins out was palpable.

Now I see the feathers. The background reminds me of a cutscene at the end of Ace Combat 5, actually. I really like it!

I find it funny (and cute) that Chicchan is scared of Producer though.

Deus Ex is one of my all-time favorite games. I had the good fortune of stumbling upon this remix with original lyrics.

I really like it so far. Are those leaves in the background, perhaps on a windy day?

Flight suits usually have a few ruffles, and mostly come in dark colors. But how about Chihaya's signature color instead?  ;D

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Ritsuko!

A) Funi doesn't do that. I actually can't think of anyone that isn't 4kids that does. No serious licensee will.
B) iM@S is established in the west now with the license and distribution of Xenoglossia. They won't do it because they'll rely on that same fanbase to be familiar enough with the series to make some sales off of brand recognition.

I'm just afraid of the franchise getting butchered to try and appeal to the American market. Your second point does assuage my fears a bit.

If it didn't grow back the next day, how would cutting Chihya's hair solve the smothering problem?

Maybe the hair functions as some sort of...gripping device, like tentacles, that constrict the victim?

That sounds weirder when it's written out.

I'm sure Puchimasu was picked as a way to test the market.

It's definitely true that the Puchimasu rights are cheaper to acquire, and that short 4koma style shows can gain popularity in the West. But I still question the decision to bring over a spin-off as a test of the market when the same show would perform better had the original been aired before the derivative. I asked the same question when iDOLM@STER skins were made available for download in Ace Combat. I feel that this isn't a good marketing decision.

And although FUNI has produced decent dubs in the past, I am going to remain cautiously optimistic if a dub is announced. There's no precedent for maintaining artistic integrity; the licensor will localize and change names if they think it will sell better.

Dubbed Puchimasu, what.

My exact reaction. One would think that the im@s anime would be the first to be dubbed. I'm not sure I like this decision, but you never know, could this be the start of a complete im@s localization in North America?

I kind of feel like Cristina Vee would be Chihaya.

This is an almost perfect fit.
