Title: Singapore, Japan or Hong Kong?
Post by: RoninatorMarx on January 15, 2010, 07:07:18 pm
Hypothetical situation. Let's say I get to go to one of these places by mid-February, where and why?

I don't remember much of Singapore, so no comment.

At this time of year, I pick Hong Kong. Japan is freezing me to death... HK will be cold, but not freezing.
HK has a lot of otaku hobby related things at a relatively cheaper price compared to Japan, which was a merit when I was living there.

As for Japan, if you are prepared for the cold of mid-Feb, and have the money, will satisfy your needs for almost everything. Plus being a larger place than HK means that you have more places to explore.

...And that sums up my vote.

If you are looking for otaku hobby related things, i wouldn't recommend you to come to Singapore. They don't import them fast enough, and they usually charge more as compared to those in Japan.

Finally, Singapore itself is smaller than Hong Kong. As for some sightseeing, Singapore is actually a fairly good place, but if i was you, i'll still go to Japan. I don't know about sightseeing in Hong Kong, so i have no comment regarding that as well.

I explored almost all the places in Hongkong and all i see are seven eleven stalls ~_~
Singapore and Hongkong are very small places ~_~
Japan is bigger but you need the money to enjoy the whole place.
Also it's harder to get a visa to get in japan(It's easy if you have a relative) than in hongkong and singapore.
BTW Americans or any white men are prioritized in hongkong than any other foreigners.

I was fortunate enough to spend some time in japan but most of it was in Okinawa the people have very mixed feelings about forigers (what with the military there and all) there. however i spent a few months in Osaka and i'll tell you it was sweet (especially the 100 yen stores.) you can find some cheap fun if you look in the right places and the ppl were nice (arcades ain't to bad either you can sometimes trick the machines with quaters. )

I would love to someday go and visit Japan if I have the money to go there. (which is highly doubtful) It would be totally awesome to see the beautiful cherry trees they have and some other cool stuff they provide in Japan. But it would probably be hard to understand what anyone is saying there if you don't know Japanese.

Hong Kong is a pretty good place for sights, sounds and eats.

But if you ever do drop by Singapore, do pay me a visit. XD

Yeah. Your statement pretty much summed up why I'd pick Japan myself.

*hides camera* No, I wasn't thinking of coming there to look for you and taking a pic while I'm at it. Honestly. *nonowa face*

I see. I'll keep that in mind when we cast our vote.

100 yen stores? I'm so there. lol And arcades, huh? Don't need the tricks with my awesome skills. XD *shot*

I'm not sure where specific we'll be going once we decide. DX

Same here. I guess language barrier is my primary problem, regardless of destination.

Will do. ;)

Well, it'll be nice to actually indeed see you, but i mean, its your holiday. I wouldn't want to spend heaps of money just to see acquaintances online, i'll probably want what's best for me, and for that i'll choose Japan.
