Gotta get both.

80 songs for $100 is the best deal any imas fan has ever seen.

the red one also has quite a bunch of songs which are also in the newer games (read as im@s 2 and newer) and which i really like a lot:
go my way
relations
meisou mind
me ga au toki
tonari ni
kosmos, cosmos
shiny smile
arcadia
alright*
jitensha
and "ai must go" is the 10th anniversary concert song

i agree with scotty though: i'll buy both

Those songlists make it impossible to choose one.
Will there be anything else beside rythm-gameplay? If not i'm not sure i want it at all.

Of course I'll be getting both.

Not only are the donchans voiced by the idols, but you can buy more sounds from the shop too.

It's a straight up Taiko no Tatsujin game with an imas skin over it. All rhythm game. All good.

That first screenshot with Kotori

You can buy UOs, which can only be used once but are apparently extra bright. Or you can buy other penlights, which don't seem to have a limit. Truly an im@s affair this game.

Price isn't that bad for an IM@S game. That's a good thing.

I don't have a Vita so I just going to watch some videos.

Taiko no Tatsujin: V Version plays on PS TV. I'd have to guess these titles would too. So investing in a cheap PS TV wouldn't be a bad alternative.

There isn't too much to say, really. It's iM@S, it's Taiko, and I got both versions pre-ordered anyway because I like both. And like most things, I expect to find out more when I actually play the game.

Though as far as cosmetics go, this was probably the most interesting video so far. The drum sound options are at least more diverse than what I remember SF giving us.

One thing I'm wondering is if you can mix and match the don and ka sounds. The video didn't seem like you could but I'd rather be sure.

I guess the HaraHara combo was technically showing off a feature of the game without realizing it.

In every Taiko game I've played (About 10 of them), you can't change both drum sounds independently of each other; they're considered a set. The video also reinforces this selection if you look for it.

I finally got around to pre-ordering both versions! I had too much trouble choosing one or the other so I went with both in the end =P

I've been obsessed with Taiko for a century and a half so this should be fun.

I'm assuming you meant to write for a decade and a half.

I wonder if Must Songs will get any DLC as I know the main Vita Taiko game does. Maybe the could have more songs from each vision per version like the rest of the arcade era songs for red and maybe the new OFA songs for blue.

If there was any doubt this would be as featureless as Shiny Festa, prepare to squash them.

I didn't realize ps tv can play PS Vita games.  Thanks, for letting us know.  It seems like a lot of vita games are compatible with the ps tv according to the wikipedia list.  That's good for people who don't want to spend $200 on a PS Vita.  The ps tv is much cheaper.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_Vita_games_(A–L) (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_PlayStation_Vita_games_(A–L))

Must Songs is listed but it doesn't say if it's compatibility.  But, likely it will be compatible.

Unfortunately, I don't think I'm getting Must Songs.  But, the ps tv looks tempting.

All new Vita games should have compatibility for PSTV going forward. If you have an old firmware (I believe <3.52 works), you can force most non-compatible games to run on it by modifying the whitelist.

Different song versions? Now I'm really hyped.

That's sounds pretty cool.

Can I ask a dumb question?  Anyone can answer.

There was a song in the video Scotty posted where Chihaya, Yukiho, and Makoto are singing Little Match Girl.  I don't think there was a music album that had all 3 of them singing at the same time.  Just Chihaya and Yukiho.

So, does that mean they used Stage for You (Ex. derived from One for All) for the songs in this game?  I was thinking because that way you can get different versions of the same song by different idols.  But, I could be totally wrong.

That's true.

I guess I was just wondering how they came up with the different idol combination for certain songs.  I'm assuming they didn't do any new recordings for this game.

Like the first song in the video was Mahou o Kakete.  It seems all the idols were singing it, but there wasn't a prior recording of all of them singing together whether it's the master version or the short version (at least according to the wiki).

So, I'm guessing they took the game version (short version) of each idol and combine it into one song, so that they're all simultaneously singing together. (It sounded like they were all singing every line together, but I could be wrong).

As for Little Match Girl, they could have done something similar for Chihaya, Yukiho, and Makoto (since there's no prior recording of all of them singing together that song).  So, I was thinking they take the game version of each idol and combine it together, so pretty much the Stage for You version for that song with those 3 idols.

Anyways, I know I'm thinking too much into this.  So, very sorry for the confusion and maybe stating the obvious (but could be wrong about everything I just said).  I'm sure it's going to be a really fun game.

Basically, you can buy different versions of the songs done by different idols (as shown on that latest video) with in-game money. That's pretty much it.

lol at the 961 full combo in Acceleration. I see what you did there.

I'm not fluent on PS TV, but aren't there workarounds to blocked games? Though it seems that Taiko V Version also isn't compatible, so maybe it's just a Taiko thing.

My package isn't due to arrive until Monday, but I'm curious if the game even allows for screenshots. Taiko V didn't allow them, but I think that's due to licensing.

Has anyone figured out how glowsticks work exactly? What's the difference with the top one Ultra Orange that's so cheap? What do I get by having them activated? They aren't running out at least it seems.  Just what do they do?  Yes I registered just to ask this but I'll try to join the community as well!

They aren't running out at least it seems.  Just what do they do?  Yes I registered just to ask this but I'll try to join the community as well!

The glowsticks are something from the real live im@s concerts. In general there are 2 types of glowsticks: battery powered ones, and chemical ones. Battery powered glowsticks are self explanatory. Chemical glowsticks are activated by "breaking" them, this causes a glass tube inside to brake and 2 chemicals begin to mix, mixing them causes a reaction that emits light. Chemical glowsticks, and especially the ones called ultra orange, or UO in short, are very bright, but quickly get dimmer. Let me put it like this: at the 10th anniversary concert, you could easily spot someone on the other side of the baseball stadium who activated a new UO halfway through a song, even though everyone in the stadium was waving at least 2 penlights (or UOs activated at the beginning of the song). UOs are typically used for what i call "hype songs" (such as Ready!!, Jibun Rest@rt or The Idolm@ster), or if a song holds special meaning to you or you like it especially. I used over 50 UOs at 10th (2 days for 5 hours each), even though i also had battery powered penlights, and a lot of people used much more than that.
Of course, UOs are much cheaper (about 80 yen a piece iirc) than battery powered penlights (the set with 12 765pro penlights was 15'000 yen at 10th iirc).

So in short: i'm pretty sure that in the game Ultra Oranges are brighter and cheaper than the other penlights, but can only be used once (hence you can buy multiples of them). I got the game today, but i couldn't play it yet (Vita battery is dead and i don't have the charger with me).

But what the glowsticks in Must Songs do in general: the audience will weave them around, just like they do in real concerts. From videos before the release i think you have to activate them in the beginning (or during) a song in Must Songs.

Yeah, I've been using them cosmetically, but I don't see any reason to at all. Not really paying attention to my gain in fans and money though. Remember that you can adjust which lights are automatically on by hitting start at the song selection.

at the end of a fes there is a concert light bonus for fans, i don't really know it is calculated. maybe just 100 extra fans per light that was on, but often you don't really have time to adjust the lights to the next song...
btw: you can crack up to 4 UOs for a song. And doing so for each song in a fes gives you an achievement/stamp thingie.

Has anyone found a way to turn off the drum sounds?

I don't think so. There's no option to lower game sounds as far as I know, so I think the only way is if there's a drum sound type that removes the noise.

Even if it's mostly cosmetic I think it's worth buying at least level 1 of all the colors so the fans aren't waving unlit concert lights.

I know Shiny had a couple of sounds that were quieter than drums, but I'm not sure for Taiko.

shiny festa had an option for the volume of the "tap" sounds, and you could completely turn it off. But yeah, i think the only hope is that a "no sound"-sound will be unlocked at some point.

Weird I just checked myself and didn't see an option to lower drum sounds.  I thought there was something similar to shiny festa where you could lower either just bgm or sound.  I'll try to look some more but I'm at work, that'll have to wait for lunch!

Must Songs doesn't have this option, Shiny Festa (the rhythm game on the PSP and iOS) has it.

ok, there is an option to change the balance between music and sound effects, with this you can turn off the sound effects completely. But it also turns off every single other sound effect in the game (the only thing i didn't check is the MC part during lives).

Incidentally i unlocked a no-sound drum sound 30 minutes ago with a producer rank of "super producer". I don't think every achievement is worth the same towards producer rank, but to give you an idea: i had 63 of the 99 achievements at that point.

I don't know if it's always like this in TnT games or if it's a pun, but the no-sound drum sound is called 音なし, which means "with no sound" and is read as "otonashi". If anyone is looking for it in the shop, it has this kanji as sound "picture": 無

Thanks for that where can you find the music and sound effects balance?  Also where can I even find how to change my drum sound? I go to coordinate and it just lets me change my "outfit"

the sound effect balance is in the main menu the most right option, and then the 2nd from the left. it shows 2 speakers and you can adjust the balance between them.

you can change the drum sounds (after buying them in the shop or unlocking them through messages from the idols) by pressing triangle in the song selection menu, the top option there are the drum sounds.

Oh wow, thank you very much! I assumed that left/right thing was a left and right speaker. Better study up some more on my Japanese.
