Title: The Friday Get-Togethers Thread
Post by: MetalPredat0r on May 29, 2015, 05:09:59 pm
For discussing moments from the Get-Togethers or important announcements for me to make.

For those that don't know, every Friday at 7p.m. EST, a few members of the project-imas forums, including myself, get together on Skype and play some video games online. The games we mainly play are Mario Kart 8 and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

If anybody wants to join us for a Get-Together one of these days, make sure you give me your Skype account so that I may call you and your Nintendo Network ID for the Wii U so that we can all add you because playing online with Friends requires we have you on our Friends Lists.

I sometimes thought about expanding this to other consoles, but so far I am the only person in our current group that owns an Xbox 360 whereas everyone else owns a PS3 or neither. If anybody has an Xbox 360 and either Ultra Street Fighter IV, Sonic and Sega All Stars Racing, Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed, Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, The King of Fighters XIII, Soul Calibur V, BlazBlue Continuum Shift Extend or Mortal Kombat, let me know and send me your gamertag as I'll send you mine so that I can try and squeeze in some 360 time in the future and actually rebuy my Xbox Live Gold subscription.

Quick announcement!

Tonight's get-together is mainly going to be for Mario Kart 8 as we play through all 48 tracks (including both DLC packs).

If anybody with a Wii U and Mario Kart 8 (must have both DLC packs) wishes to play with us tonight, please PM me your Nintendo Network ID and send me a message on Skype stating your name on the forums and I will add you on both Skype and the Wii U.

My Skype is kryptoncrusher.net. I'm also listed there as Arturo Arias. If you find that name with a picture of Shiho Kitazawa from Million Live in glasses, that's me.

My Nintendo Network ID is GodslayerSword12. My Mii is a tan-skinned green-shirt guy with glasses.

Good call to make this a separate thread; it helps to get that acquaintance going for potential friendly faces.

Adding onto Skype, we've a group call throughout, but microphones aren't necessary so feel free to use the chat. We tend to fuck around well enough with that, and you'll even find another side to me.

As for console expansion, this may be a fickle -- while we've yet to see results, I'm personally wary of it for now as it'd splinter our player base too hard. Group play is the heart and soul of these, I feel.

Now then, I'm unable to do tonight as I work the weekend. Perhaps another time I'll Sm4sh your faces in. :3

Well, I'm ALWAYS busy Friday nights, but from the few times I've made it I can vouch that these things are crazy even if I can't play anything with you guys. ^^" I'll try to make next week. I have Chorale rehearsal tonight, but I don't think there's anything on the calendar next week.

Sounds like a lot of fun, honestly. I'd love to join in and hang out with some fellow forumers, but I doubt there's much I could be playing with y'all. :P Got an Xbox 360 and a Wii U but they're...Troublesome with online connectivity. Anyways, if you'll be willing to accept me, feel free to add me on Skype at vasquez_thexiv. I'm available mostly at night but like I said, don't expect me to be playing many games but always up for just general chit-chat.

I haven't joined yet.  I'll probably cause a bunch of lag to everyone.

Just curious, I wonder how much lag do you guys experience?

It depends on the game and connection. For Mario Kart, none. Mario Kart is as smooth as it gets for online because online experience is individual. Smash Bros., however, depends on the kind of connection one has. If at least one person has a bad connection, it effects everyone. Most times, Smash works fine, though there are times where performance is.......questionable.

You know, I'm really curious on how good my connection is.  I think I can try to play with you all tomorrow if you don't have enough players.  I hope I got the time zone correct.  Don't worry, I'll leave if I'm causing too much lag.

@MetalPredat0r

I will PM you my stuff as soon as I can.  Thanks.

Hey, sorry about leaving so early.  I'm kind of acting like a butler for my parents.

Also, sorry, I wasn't not talking much.  Just trying to be polite and all.

Anyways, great session.  I had a lot of fun.

How was the lag for Smash bros?

@everyone

Do you guys know each other?  You guys seem pretty close.

@Deviantprotagonist

Dean, how are you so good on 200cc?  I don't understand.  If I go too fast I hit the wall, but if I brake, then everyone passes me up.

I met Seth the two or so times I was able to make it. :U
But yeah, it's a great time.

Very, very good call, indeed. Tonight was a blast, so I'm looking forward for more friendly faces to do rounds with.

Glad to know that you two had a great time, despite wonky issues with my internet in the beginning. ^_^;

If nothing else that wonkiness lead to an in-joke where you're perpetual ender of the world. Woopie and such. :U

Good man. Modesty of that nature is something I fancy, so I'm content with having you as a friend. Sm4sh went much better than expected, owing to little if any input lag. In regards to 200cc, I've to say it's my favourite way to play Mario Kart 8 now, solely because it makes braking relevant again. As a result, a strategy is imposed where you need to moderate this.

The biggest thing to remember is to never brake before you initiate a drift. Should you only brake during a drift instead, you can capitalize on the momentum prior to drifting, and once you release the drift you'll easily regain speed thanks to the resulting boost. This is pretty much paramount when racing on unforgiving tracks like Dragon Driftway and Neo Bowser City.

Another thing worth considering is to only feather the brake button -- like pressing it briefly as opposed to holding it down outright, which does more harm than good. There's also fact I use inward turning bikes like the Comet, which handle differently in that they've a sharper drifting radius and better acceleration; maybe you can look into these if you've still issues.

@kirby I was actually a new guy amongst y'all too.

Anyways, tonight was pretty cool. Glad I got to hang out with everyone and that I finally got my internet working. Looking forward to next week!

Great to have you, Esteban. I was surprised of your consistent win streak in Sm4sh, despite the six month hiatus.

I'd very much like to hope it was our being weary after 2+ hours play and not us sucking horribly to begin with. :U

Thanks, for the explanation.  I honestly do practice this stategy, and it works on most tracks.  But, some tracks just have way too many tight turns.  Obviously, I could switch to a lighter weight character and a better handling kart.  But, oh well.  I'm just here to have fun.

Great game, guys.  You guys are awesome.  I apologize for my connection as I was dropping out randomly.  I'm guessing the fact I'm connected to an extender rather than the router may have some interference.

Sorry, for trolling a lot in smash especially with Kirby.  I only do that very rarely.

@MetalPredat0r

Arturo, I'm sorry for not checking my PM.  It must have been inconvenient.  Would it be better if I PM you to let you know if I'm coming?  If you don't hear from me then assume I'm not coming.

I wouldn't worry about the Kirby thing -- disrespect is the heart and soul of SSB. That's coming from a guy who loves to Ganoncide for shits and giggles.

Or Kirbycide without a stock loss, as Arturo would be well aware of~. :3

Why do you think this is my 666th post?

:3

In total seriousness, you gave me such a heartbreak moment on Mute City when I thought I've had victory in my grasp -- right at the moment that random Blue Shell stopped you dead at the finish line and I was closing in with a Super Horn -- but suddenly, that defensive Boomerang toss of yours. That fucking Boomerang! ;~;

Still, it's moments like that which make Mario Kart such a memorable game with friends.

Dean didn't even show up. He had work. It was just me and Seth with Catherine as a lurker.

You actually weren't rude at all. You just bluntly said "I cannot show up" which is good enough for me.

Hopefully next week we can have more people over so we can have full-on matches with the new DLC.

Do you guys prefer to do time rather than stock to help make rounds shorter so that we can rotate people quicker?

I feel kind of bad taking so much time when there's 2 people left and others are waiting.  So, sorry about that.

Dean, do you remember that airdodge I did when you were kirby doing that final smash?  Talk about luck.

It really was a buzzkill, what with leaving people out during what could be lengthy matches; this is virtually why I wanted MK8 in there.

A compromise I can think of is to enact two-stock rounds, as seen in competitive. Feeling there isn't enough leverage with timed rounds.

But overall, though, you might as well blame Sakurai for the lack of a lobby spectator mode -- and it's a legitimate complaint in this case.

And yes, I do remember that. Thinking it was well-timed rather luck, since I was practically obvious with said Final Smash as an airhorn.

Very late, but welcome to the group, Okayu! Hope to see you this Friday!

In other words, very important Get-Together announcement for those who attend:
Due to the growing number of players, I have decided to extend our time playing Mario Kart 8. Rather than 2 sets of 4 races, we will now do 3 sets of 4 races. This will be in effect starting this Friday as to give more players more play time without having to do many elimination rules like we did for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.

Suppose I'll be the one to reflect on last Friday, to which I deem a particularly great day for having Okayu join us. Kawaii~.

First major thing was Mario Kart 8, with the most we've had playing. The Blue Shell can also go fuck itself, sometimes; at one point it made me lose to mariokirby -- or Sonny -- 51 to 50 in the final scoring. Pretty much a kick to the jaw, but fun was had.

It also didn't help Seth was a constant cock block, what with two instances of him blowing up my Triple Reds with Bob-ombs -- even though I had Sonny dead in my sights. Consider the former his guardian angel/plot device/deus ex machina. D:<

To my consolation and great amusement, though, one just couldn't forget the time I literally stole Sonny's win with a Blue Shell from second place. I mean, damn, even I'd believe I was running a trainer or something. Looking forward to more~.

I'll confess.  I lost to Arturo during a round of Smash.  He did a well-timed focus attack when he was Ryu.  Be careful guys.  Arturo's been practicing hard.  He's going to be placing 1st from now on.

Blue shells are awesome except when they hit me.

Well, you ruined my ego.  I thought I won with skill...I guess not.  Seth is actually a double agent working for Arturo.

Actually, let's make that the second time I've robbed you. :P I was referring to an initial time when you were well ahead from my second-place position, but a ridiculous item box gave me that Blue Shell to basically nuke you with. What kind of luck is that?

Welcome, Yukibro.  Thanks for your videos by the way. (And, thanks Okayu for the translations).

You don't have to stay the entire time if that's more convenient.

I usually leave around an hour or 1.5 hours since I'm pretty much a butler for my parents.  (Actually, the real reason is that I'm a terrible player, so I run away like a coward.)

@Everyone (including Seth who probably won't read this)

My apologies for leaving abruptly.  Something really urgent came up, so I shut off everything and left the house literally within 10 seconds.  I hope I didn’t cause too much trouble, but sometimes the unexpected happens.  So, I'm sorry about that.

Mario Kart 8 was great.  I have no complaints since blue shells are my savior (most of the time).

Only managed 1 game of smash, but I was destroyed (especially by Seth) and looked like a beginner.  My biggest weakness is lag and the new characters.

@Everyone again

Do you guys Skype each other throughout the week? I noticed a ton of chat messages whenever I login.

You know, I hate to admit this (and really embarrassing to say), but you guys are starting to grow on me.  I don't know why.  Just hearing your voices while laughing and having fun makes me feel like I know you guys for a long time.  Seriously, there are very, very few people in this world who can make me laugh.

Ugh...I can't believe I said that.  I just ruined my ego.

Don't feel bad. It's great to have you as part of the group, dude. The more friends, the merrier. You keep it cool and show up to have some fun. It happens. The best part of these get-togethers is hanging out with everyone and having a good time. If you're having fun, that makes me happy and grateful to have come up with these in the first place. Hope to see you again next week, bud. :)

Did I miss anything?  Sorry, I couldn't come at the last minute.

It's all good. We know that not all of us can always be there. Stuff comes up, no problem.
But in regards to missing anything, just the usual shenanigans of gameplay...Although yesterday included the seemingly never ending Hyrule Temple stage and the -Dorfing match.

Sorry if I made it seem like I could join in by now, but I've been sick this week and heading out for vacation for the next week. I was more curious to see if I can make it work out on future dates, which I probably can. I've been meaning to shift work days around, anyway.

Nice to have a Yukibro. Literally, I adore this girl.

So with that said, I'm curious -- what games do you have? I'd be eager for more racing contestants since I pretty much play Mario Kart like this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yqf0AqAHhaM).

:3

As far as this topic goes, I do have MK8 with its DLC and Smash with its DLC. Not sure what else you guys have been playing outside of those, but I can likely reach it if it's on the Wii U or PC.

@Esteban

You're going to hate me for saying this, but I can barely recall your voice even though I see you at the group call.  Of course, I don't listen to anyone's voice while I'm playing unless they're yelling at me.

@Yukibro

Don't worry.  Whatever is convenient.  The people here are pretty cool.  Just watch out for Dean.  His driving and fighting skills are not something to mess around with.  (I'm just joking).

That explains why you're so good at Mario Kart! You actually concentrate!

No worries, there's always me in Smash.  :P
Only on the 3DS though.

Lol, not a problem. I'm that guy with an unnaturally deep voice, and a lot of times I talk but have my headset is muted. That, and I'm usually absent or quiet in the first bit. But like they say, you're probably too focused on the game to notice! :3

*Sigh* Today was my worst performance ever in both Smash and Mario Kart.

Seth and Dean totally annihilated me.  I seem to win whenever Arturo's around since he does a good job messing them up.

I lost every round to Seth in Mario Kart.  Dean obviously beats me a couple rounds. (Yes, I was actually holding back hitting Seth, so that he could take you down.  But, it didn't work the way I planned.)

In smash I lost all 3 stocks as Kirby while Dean had 1 stock as Ganondorf.  That was embarrassing.

Arturo, watch out for those two.  They gotten really good since the first time I played against them.

Whew...but that was fun.  Being on the edge of my seat with my palms sweating as any tiny mistake will cost you the match/race.

Okay, so I actually have a chance to participate this week. I already know next week is a bust, but at least I can freshen up on my game now.

Skype: absolutefield
NNID: AbsoluTeField

As you can see, my naming is the peak of originality.

Any plans on trying the new Smash content tomorrow? Namely the Tournament mode, though I'm not sure what the minimum is.

Yes. We were planning on using Tournament Mode as the new standard for our get-togethers since "more poeple + four-player lobbies = no".

I will send a Skype and Wii U invite. Please accept asap.

Well, that was fun. The input lag left a bit of salt in my mouth. Nice to finally play Smash 3DS for a while =V

The salt was real for the rest. =P

Guess we're calling the tornado at Hyrule Castle 64 "Tornado-senpai". *Gets noticed twice*

Today wasn't so bad.  I won a round in MK8.  And, won some rounds in smash.  Though, I missed out on the 3DS smash since I don't have a 3DS.

Thanks, yukibro for coming.  You're pretty good at MK8 since you won a round.  I haven't faced you in Smash, but I'm assuming you're really good.

@Dean

Not sure what happened in MK8.  But, your fearsomeness will make a come back next week.  Just remember that I'm immune to your terror....(*gulp* I hope...)

@Arturo

I didn't get a chance to face your Ryu one on one since you fell of the stage pretty quickly.  I still want revenge from a few weeks ago.

@Esteban

You're really good with Zelda.  I was about to throw in the towel in the last match, but I got lucky.  I heard your voice, but it wasn't super deep.  Was that intentional?  Or did I hear yukibro's instead?

To be honest, that was the first time I actually used Zelda seriously (not really serious, if you consider how much I spammed her teleporting shenanigans :3) as before last night I would just use her once in a while because I didn't feel like playing as anyone else at that particular moment. But yeah, you put up a good fight there. ggwp m8. As for my "super deep" voice, I think you were confusing me with Yukibro. Like Dean and I said, I accidentally Batman'd too hard during puberty. :P

Recorded for posterity. (http://gfycat.com/RewardingHarshGreatdane) Or at least, my posterity. (http://gfycat.com/ScrawnyFarawayHoneybee)

All in all, that was a hell of a night. I won't be around until 10-11pm EDT next Friday, but if you guys are still doing Smash as long as we did last night, I'll be down for more.

I haven't faced you in Smash, but I'm assuming you're really good.

Right, you ended up in the other room last night. I mean, I guess I'm good, but I don't think I'm amazing. Not just being humble here, either.

To those that still read this thread, I was Luigi.  Yes, that was a humiliating defeat.  But, I still had fun even though I lost.

Now, I do mind if Dean beats me in MK8 (just some random, non-specific rivalry I guess).

And, I'm still bitter about Arturo's Ryu from smash (I fear focus attacks more than I do counters).

So, I managed to tie with Dean in 1st place in MK8.  Unbelievable.  I think I'm the only buffer against him completely dominating everyone.

Smash wasn't so good for me.  Lost too many rounds to count.  I'm so terrible, but I had fun.  You guys improved greatly from the time I first played against you.  Now, I'm always running for my life.

But, I did finally settled the score with Arturo's Ryu.  But, that isn't his main character, so it doesn't prove anything.

And, yes Esteban managed to escape me again.

Triple post...now that's a record for me.

Today was the biggest game night.  We had 8 people including Arturo's best friend.

Special thanks to the people joining us including Okayu, Yukibro (now a pernament member), and Lemon (actually sometimes present in chats but plays once a while).  Was there a 3DS session? I'm not sure.  Usually, Catherine plays those sessions.

Mario Kart 8 had 3 rounds.

Round 1: Dean beat me.

Round 2: Don't ask. Ugh....

Round 3: I beat Dean. (Notice I only care if I beat Dean or not)

I must say MK8 is the one game that will make enemies out of your best friends.  It was total chaos, but awesome at the same time.

There was so much frustration and agony, but it was really hilarious hearing people's reactions.  I know I'm sort of at fault for fueling people's anger since I hit so many people at vital times.  But, I had a good time.

Smash was pretty good.  I won a few rounds.  No complaints.

@Dean

Your madness will be stopped someday.  Your reckless driving has caused so many casualties, but luckily I kept it under control this time.

@Arturo

I loved your reaction when I hit you with the bullet bill at the finish line.  And, your reaction with Dean at the other race.  I wish I could have recorded it.

@Yukibro

You seem really good with Pac-man.  I would like to fight him someday.  Thanks, for giving up your time to play with us.

@Esteban

Yes, I finally heard your batman voice.  I can sleep in peace now.

@Okayu

It was really fun playing with you.  Thanks for joining us.  I need to learn how to fight megaman.

@Lemon

Thanks for joining mario kart 8.  I think I might of hit you several times.  Sorry, about that.  Blame it on Dean.
