Title: Okayu's Drawing Thread
Post by: Okayu on March 19, 2015, 04:14:34 am
2018 Edit: Here's a twitter account I created to post my drawings on https://twitter.com/Okayu072B_ku & Discord server https://discord.gg/Ny6RM7D

I used to draw but I quit to focus more on learning Japanese. I was thinking recently of starting to learn to draw again. Here's some old examples.

This is probably the oldest one I still have saved from back when CG started in early 2012.

The rest of these were photographed as my scanner hasn't worked in awhile so sorry for the poor quality.

This is the last one I did around 2 years ago now.

I strongly envy that Yayoi because you have the bravery to shade with pencil, which I don't do for the life of me because I am terribly afraid of smudging the paper itself.

That's Chihaya in the second one, right? What is she holding?

Also, can you provide English translations for the Japanese? :)

Yeah. She's holding a heart shaped box of chocolates.

"Ku?" "Sha" "Toka" ""arigatou" kana (omoide wo arigatou lyric)" "Do your best Producer-san! I'll do my best too!"

Sure is Chihaya around here. :P

But for being base sketches, the effort is telltale -- the styling of the first one is especially reminiscent of the iM@S art style. Props to that much.

Makes me want to pursue drawings again, yet there's the obligations to mind as far as life goes. Maybe things can better look to my fortune as they would to you, if you're set on returning to draw.

Wow, you're really good! We have a lot of artists on this forum, don't we?

Especially impressed by that first Chihaya, all the puchidols (just all of them, I envy you and Zeta because I can't draw cute things to save my life), and that Yayoi.

I also love Ami in shades. That's just perfect.

Of course I enjoy drawing her as well. I used to draw the other idols a bit as well but don't have the images on me.

I miss the black shades, they were the best. Also the tux. http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm6256067

I have pictures on my PSP still of characters in the black shades with a chicken on their hand and monster feet and crazy outfits like that. It's beautiful.

Since short hair Chihaya fan art has been more popular lately I tried sketching it myself. I haven't drawn anything in awhile so it's not that great.

A Chihaya plush would be super cute! !
But, probably would involve very minimal stuffing.

Cute concept. Come to think of it, though, haven't they done Puchidol plushies? I'd love those, especially.

But, probably would involve very minimal stuffing.

You're mean. :P

Yes, it's digital. It's a template though I kinda wish that it was cleaned up a bit because I can still see white spots.

EDIT: Eh, come to think about it, that too harsh. =/ Still, the antimony needs a lot of work.

It's digital, though it looks very sloppily made, that is. The bad MS paint job hurts my eyes, but since it's just a template, he can get away with it. At least he wasn't lazy with the hair.

As for the rest... they're not that great. They're amusing doodles, but they look awfully traced and the anatomy is very off on a lot of the pictures.
Then again, he can improve, as long he uses good references.

I, for one, think she has a charming style that can only grow with more practice. ^_^ I hope you will continue to draw, Okayu, because I enjoy seeing these doodles.
I found the Chihaya plush drawing actually quite good considering even though I'm a seamstress I can't draw concept sketches for shit.

Harsh much? There's no evidence that they're indeed traced and for doodles the anatomy is well adequate. The Chihaya plush is also a design template, so please spare comments like "this hurts my eyes" or "at least he wasn't lazy". It's uncalled for even in the realm of criticism.

I appreciate the feedback. My old drawings aren't traced.

The Chihaya plush design was done digitally in MS paint using the line tools. That's because otherwise the lines would come out squiggly since I don't have a tablet. While this is just a concept design I didn't use a template. I looked at the other plush the person I want to commission did and based it off that.

I know I have a long way to go. I mostly posted it as I thought some people would be interested in seeing it.

You're welcome. It's nice to see your thoughts and explanations behind your works and you achieved your goal to get people interest on your work. It's not the best, but the effort put into them is there. I can definitely see it.

For the concept being done entirely in paint, I have to say it impressed me regardless of what anyone else might think. Plus I know you put a lot of time into it and it looks super cute to me. You should post the Haruka one you were doing for me once you finish it.

But, probably would involve very minimal stuffing.

Lol. Well played.

Considering it was done entirely in MS Paint without using a template, I'm very impressed. I can't use MS Paint like that to save my life.
Well, OK, I was decently pleased with my Enra.
But still.

Let's be honest here: I think all of us can admit we can always be improving, at least a little bit, at art--myself COMPLETELY and TOTALLY included. A lot of times I get sloppy with anatomy, and I really need to work on that.
Not to mention faces are really hard. Let's get real guys, faces are HARD. XD

I think your faces are some of the best I've ever seen considering you don't trace. You and Arturo draw some of my favorite facial expressions, if I am to be totally honest. So keep it up, and we can all continue to improve bit by bit together. :D ARTISTS UNITE.

I was thinking of getting a new scanner soon that way I could post drawings in better quality.

For now here's an image I drew on the Wii U awhile back.

If you can avoid it, don't get a scanner with a printer combo. From my experience they break really fast, and if the printer isn't working the scanner won't either. Oh the many headaches I've suffered because of combo technology silliness. :(

Really? I have one and I never had issues with it. Odd.

I'd like to think it's because some people draw on tablets rather than pencil and paper, meaning the Wii U Gamepad is natural to them.
