Title: The General Random Thoughts and Conversation Thread.
Post by: Ivan The Mouse on March 07, 2015, 02:58:57 pm
I feel like this forum needs one, so I'm making one.

And to start, I want some apples right now.

This seems like it's going to be a fun time.

As a rebuttal, I have been craving Instant Ramen for the longest time, but my mom won't let me get any because it's so unhealthy. This is why I hate being the child of a health nut mom sometimes.

I remember when I used to eat ramen all the time with hot dogs on the side. Then I stopped when the hot dogs we bought were starting to get worse in quality. Maybe I can get back into ramen after I start to have enough of making Mac and Cheese when I feel like making my own dinner.

Oh man, that sounds so good.

I actually kinda can't wait to go to college just because I can eat all the instant ramen I want.

I literally once almost went to a snow camp away from home JUST BECAUSE I KNEW THEIR SNACK SHOP SOLD INSTANT RAMEN AND I WAS CRAVING SOME SO BADLY.

I think the debate room at my school sells instant ramen. Like, there's a snack bar there and everybody and their mother goes there when hungry.

I think one of the reasons why instant ramen gets a bad rap is because the nutrition facts assume that you're going to drink the broth once you're finished with the noodles. If you don't drink the broth at the end, it's not so bad.

It's been a while since I've had ramen.

You can also make or use your own broth, or serve it dry. It tastes much better that way.

I don't use the packets often, especially not the oil ones. You can do better with a bit of vegetable oil and minced garlic. The spice packets, I use red pepper or some chili paste instead.

I've heard the spice packets carry all the MSG, which is what my mom's afraid of. I think I might be able to convince my mom to get me some as long as we just do what Cael said and make our own spices/broth.

We don't care about Ramen packets being full of chems back here. Besides, we tend to put MSG on everything we cook.

So yeah, we enjoy our instant noodles without worries. Because we never cared.

Instant ramen... i'm still trying to find good ones where i live. Though i heard there is a ramen shop in the city where i work that makes the real deal. I know there is one that makes westernized versions, they are not bad, but i just prefer the original.
But since i'll be going to Japan next week, the first time in hanami season, i definitely plan to eat ramen. But even more than ramen, i'm looking forward to get some okonomiyaki, there isn't a single okonimyaki restaurant in Switzerland, argh! Once i even flew to Amsterdam with a friend for a prolonged weekend, just because there is an okoniyaki restaurant. We also went to Düsseldorf once for that reason, but they were the worst okonomiyaki i ever had, including the self made ones. The shop in Düsseldorf is closed by now btw.

But to go even further astray: I recently bought this double ocarina: http://www.steinocarina.com/productsDetail.php?id=299
But the more i try the more i'm convinced that the second chamber isn't tuned correctly, even though the multi chamber ocarinas from this maker have a very very good reputation. I'm in contact with them now. The last thing i did was recording a video before going to work this morning of me playing the scale to make them believe something is not right. Or maybe i'm making a mistake myself and i hope then they can see it, but i checked that on Skype with David Ramos/docjazz already (the guy playing the ocarina in this Yakusoku cover: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvwTgWcaVNg , he also made a ton of different about the ocarina).
On that note, i have my next ocarina lesson this evening on Skype. I'm currently practicing to play Aoi Tori, but it's giving me a lot of trouble. Yakusoku will be next.

And to add to this convoluted set of thoughts, i recently found out that there is a second official book with im@s sheet music apart from the ages old M@sterbook. The new one from last year has many of the "newer" songs like Ready, Change, Yakusoku or arcadia, but unfortunately for me they are piano arrangements.

Ooookooooonooomiiiiyaaakiiiiii that stuff is so awesome. I don't really use eggs a lot though, so I'm a little worried about making it myself. And there's no way I can go through a bag of bean sprouts before they go bad.

Don't know if you're into maid cafes, but there'll be an Im@s Cinderella Girls cafe there. You might be able to pick up some swag too.

http://www.curemaid.jp/?page_id=7986

There's also the Im@s official shops. There's one in Nakano Broadway, Nagoya, Osaka, and Fukuoka.

http://imasnews765.com/?p=12607

EDIT: Oh hey, looks like Characro's doing a Happy Birthday thing for Haruka too. I don't think that's a maid cafe, just a regular themed cafe like Good Smile. You might need reservations, though.

... Come to think of it, where'll you be? If you can take pictures of hanami, please share!

Instant ramen's a nice commodity whilst you're on lunch break, but I personally think the broth's the best part -- as a dessert of sorts -- because you can wash the ramen down nicely afterwards. As far as brands go, steer very clear of Kimchi ramen if you're intending to microwave it; I learned that the hard way when my bowl suddenly erupted in flames. Holy hell at that initial shine.

Moreover to foodstuffs, what are your favourite brands of potato chips? Pringles are definitely king in my eyes. There's just something about resting one on your tongue to crunch on that makes it ever so appetizing, whether or not you're actually hungry.

Then there's the duckface thing you could get going for shits and giggles. :P

I don't know exactly where i'll be. First a week or so in Kyuushu and then a week or so in Kansai (probably 2 or 3 days of that in Kyoto). So the im@s shop in Fukuoka might be possible, i just need to convince the friend i'm going with to go there :p thanks for the hint ;)

I was surprised they even had a pizza flavor at all -- seemed really garish the instant I saw the label, but for my curiosity the taste actually works.

Having said that, my conventional choice is cheddar cheese. :3

I'll definitely keep that in mind, thanks. :U

As far as potato chips, I guess I've always been partial to Doritos. If my mom would let me buy Pringles more often, they would easily be a favorite. Sadly, I'm the daughter of a health nut, so if anything is even remotely unhealthy, we don't get to eat it. Even Doritos we only get in small travel-sized packets and we're only allowed to eat them when we leave the house as a snack.

On a totally unrelated note (but that's why this thread exists, isn't it?) do you guys think forums count as social media?
My sister was talking to me yesterday and I mentioned that I'm not on any social media sites (no Facebook, no Tumblr, no Twitter, no Instagram...). I added that all I'm on are a few forums, and then I have my email and Skype. She argued that forums ARE social media.

I say nay. Forums are created specifically as a way for fans of the same franchise/series/genre to get together and express their love for said franchise/series/genre, pick up on important news (like where concerts will be held and merchandise and such), and share fanfictioins or fan projects or role play or whatever. Each one is different, but I don't think they constitute social media since you aren't going there to make friends/keep in touch with friends. You're there to share thoughts on a thing with other like-minded people. And if you make some friends along the way, as I have and I'm sure many of you have, that's an added bonus.

What do you guys think?

And before I go...

I recently bought this double ocarina: http://www.steinocarina.com/productsDetail.php?id=299

And now I need to buy this because iM@S has so many great songs I want to play on the piano.

I think it depends on what you mean by social media. To some interacting with others in any way would count as being social. There's also forums keeping accounts and posting history, although you could argue that's for convenience for reading a conversation. I've seen some try to argue that anonymous image boards are also social media because you're discussing with others so who knows.

To me personally I consider social media to be sites where talking to people about conversations and making friends is the main focus, people are above everything. While with forums and image boards the discussion is held highest, be it a goofy or serious one. It's possible to make friends on it due to having similar interests, but that's not the main purpose of the site. I think there's some issues with social media: obsession with getting notifications or checking feeds, feeds causing you to feel worse about yourself because people mostly post positive things about their lives or are trying to impress everyone by filtering it, becoming more self centered as you do the same in return, etc. I find it to be a pretty negative environment and I'm not very interested in that so I tend to contact others through chat programs instead.

I prefer posting about series like iM@S on fan sites and forums. I also don't use sites like facebook or instagram. I got a twitter more recently to retweet Chihaya tweets as there's been more and more artists posting twitter exclusive content (like Chi-tan, such a cute artist, as expected of a Kirby fan https://twitter.com/nakayosisabure ).

I personally prefer pixiv as it's much easier to find tagged content there, but you go where things are if they won't come to you. As for tumblr I got the idea as I would save shrine images to begin with, but wanted a more permanent place to gather them, and the site that came to mind for such a thing was that one. I don't really use those for the social element, although there are a lot of Japanese Producers on twitter.

That's a good point. I guess it does depend on the definition of social media.
My definition is like yours--if you use it purely for the sake of connecting with friends, it's social media.

search with and without the dashes

My definition of social media is basically the same as you've all said (that the point is to connect with other people, etc.). I have a few accounts that I maintain out of boredom, promo-related endeavors and/or for college-related purposes, but I'm pretty "eh" towards most. (FB, Tumblr, LinkedIn and Google+ in a very blue moon, that's all I really use). I don't like the culture of those sites, either. I use FB most from the listed because it's easiest for me to get a hold of my program's primary class professor that way (I word that how I do, because he's who teaches most of my major's degree-related courses, and is also my advisor).

I'm definitely a Pringles lover (Pizza), though sometimes I'll go for kettle-baked chips, baked Lay's or the stacked Lay's. I'll occasionally eat "normal" Lays/Ruffles/etc. but typically find them too greasy for my liking; kettle chips get a pass because they're crunchy enough for my liking (I like crunchy) and have a different flavor about them the other varieties don't provide.

Scrambled eggs are pretty tasty. Have you ever tried putting cream cheese in them? My mom does that, and it gives them a kinda cheesy taste. Just be careful not to put so much that her eggs are all covered in cream cheese, because that tastes yucky.

I have been traveling through Kyuushuu for a few days now with a rented car. I noticed the japanese don't turn on their headlights during the day. When i learned driving 13 or so years ago i learned to always turn the headlights on during the day, so others can see you better and since the beginning of last year (or this year, can't remember) you even HAVE to turn them on at all times by law in Switzerland. I can understand that it isn't the law in Japan, but it's really strange when they flash their headlights to signal you that you have your lights on. And both times we stopped for fueling up, the guys at the fueling station noticed our headlights are on and wanted to turn them off...

On that note: i almost went crazy when i wanted to book a hotel room in Fukuoka for tomorrow and the day after (Friday and Saturday), everything in the whole city seems to be booked out... After searching for 3 hours we decided to take a hotel in Kurume and go to Fukuoka by train (about 40 minutes). Since we have to give the car back tomorrow evening and our flight to Osaka leaves on Sunday, we couldn't really change our plans and had to get a hotel in Fukuoka (or nearby).
The im@s shop in Fukuoka opens the day after tomorrow btw, i'm "afraid" i'll spend quite a bit of money there :p

Where I live, you don't have to put headlights on during the day, but some people do (it's the law to use them at night and in inclement weather though)... you wouldn't see people flashing headlights to warn you that they're on, though. Maybe it's to do with energy conservation? Maybe it's law for them for it to be turned off in daylight over there?

If I made a karaoke thread, would anyone participate in it but me?

By "Karaoke Thread", I mean a place where people can just post random amateur covers of any song they want. If you have something you recorded professionally, by all means, share. But if you have a crappy microphone or you can only record music in your iPad because you can't work Audacity yet so everything sounds so unprofessional it's insane, that works too.
I dunno, would I be the only one who cared?

The anime stuff should likely go in this thread (http://forum.project-imas.com/index.php/topic,79.930.html). As far as karaoke goes, the only time you'll have me singing is once I down what amount of alcohol I lose track of. Then I'd pretty much become Beethoven, ironically true to form. :P

Looking back to the egg subject, it's definitely a healthy way to brim the stomach. What I take to doing is heating sunnyside eggs and cheese amidst a toast sandwich which... is beginning to make my mouth water. Be right back. :3

But as an aside, I love when my mom makes a batch of deviled eggs. Those spices and stuff just... get to me just right.

Deviled eggs. Dean, those things are SO GOOD, man.

When I get home from Germany, I think I'll make that thread, then, if not just for myself. It'll be awesome to have other singers share some covers, too! I know Wrath sings. She's very good, too.

Very true.

You're in summer? Can I live with you? This freezing spring weather really doesn't do it for me.

I prefer warmth, but I get you.
What country are you in?

On a totally unrelated-but-related-to-the-aforementioned-karaoke topic, what do you guys think about A Capella covers? Now I don't mean whole A Capella GROUPS that sing arrangements, I mean one person and a mike with no music.

Do you tend to find these better when it's a faster paced song, or a slower song? When there are music breaks, do you guys prefer people to leave a silence, or add their own little riffs?

Personally, I tend to like slower songs. Faster songs tend to have less blank space, but I like raw slow songs with nothing added, usually, just because it sounds so pretty.

(guys I am in such a singy mood I'm sorry)

EDIT:
Been meaning to ask this of all of you who have been to Japan.
What cities have the highest concentration of English speakers, do you think? I really want to go one day, but my Japnese is limited; I know essential phrases and a lot of useless words I'll probably never actually use like "crazy". Have you found you need to have strong Japanese knowledge to vacation there, or do people speak enough English for us native English-speakers to actually get stuff done?

Send me your bean sprouts. I don't even know why, but I'm obsessed with them.

They've all been cooked now, which is good since they would have started rotting today. Now I've got a fridge with... fried potatoes, slightly burnt hushpuppies that are soggy from being left in the fridge too long, okonomiyaki, and some mixture of egg, bean sprout, leafy vegetable, and ground pork.

Tokyo. I don't even hafta think about that one.

You should be able to find someone who speaks enough English to ask for directions and stuff, but you both might struggle picking words. I wanna say the metro and JR guys should have someone around that can show you what stops to take, since Tokyo has a bunch of tourists and they should be used to it. Some stations even have a tourist booth with multilingual people that you can go to. If nothing else, find another tourist, and ask them if they speak English. Tokyo has lots.

Outside Tokyo... I dunno. I'd say the best spots to put money on a bet would be... major railway stations, the hotels next to them, really famous attractions, and the hotels next to those. The English might be broken, but little bit a creativity and you should be able to get by. Shrine priests probably won't speak a wit of the language. Maybe get a phrasebook and bring it around with you. It might be easier to point at the phrase you want to say, then fill in the blanks by just telling them.

Many tourist attractions will have pamphlets in both English and Japanese, even obscure ones. The Japanese ones are sometimes (often times?) more detailed than the English ones, though.

If you're really good at gettin' around though, you won't need to use much Japanese to get to some places on the map. A lot signs have both Japanese and English on them, and the power of the internet (and some paper and pencil) can fill in the rest. Just a note when map making - be sure to write down intersection names, since streets don't always have names.

Restaurant menus are a different story, though - you might have to tap into the native human language of points and grunts if they don't have an English menu. Don't expect one.

A Capella's in addition would be welcome -- I feel it's better to have freedom of choice to move karaoke's by. That being said, I'm more partial to the slower, quiet pace since it eases people along and in the case of actual singers, sound that much more pleasant. Speaking of the aforementioned topic, I'm thinking of posting something similar, if not the same.

Awesome, thanks! I'll definitely keep all that in mind.
I have an iPad app that has handy Japanese for important phrases, emergencies, and ordering food. I'll keep it handy for whenever we go.

Karaoke is always a blast. I currently have nothing I'm particularly thrilled with to post, but I think I'll go ahead and get it set up anyways.
I've always loved A Capella covers. I just think they're so beautiful when done right.

Finished reading Syrobonkers. It's a huge (over 80 pages in my version. There are quite a few pictures, but that's still over 75 pages of text) interview with Aphex Twin. It's kinda interesting, because he is known for straight-out lying in interviews and all-around spreading misinformation and myths about himself. Hell, in this interview he admitted to lying about his girlfriend being his wife and having children together while some time later he talks about his children like nothing happened (although that interview was conducted over a few days, or perhaps weeks, so that might have something to do with it), so we never know what is actually true and what not. Even the ending is like that, with the interviewer asking [I suggest not clicking it if you're interested in reading the thing yourself] if the interviewed person doesn't feel guilty about pretending to be Aphex for the interview. There's also of course lots of gear talk (the interview is a friend of Aphex and a fellow musician), which I like.

Sadly, it was taken down by the author, so you'd have to find a copy online.

Finally installed Yosemite on my Mac. I decided to do a clean install instead of installing over my Mavericks partition. Since I'm starting from scratch that means there are so many settings to adjust, commands to run and apps to install! Good thing I kept a bootable copy of my old system or else I wouldn't be able to get much done.

It's a version of Apple's Mac operating system and it is indeed named after Yosemite National Park. :) It has some security updates that the previous major version (Mavericks, named after another California location) will probably never get. I'm only familiar with one of those security updates (a fix for a vulnerability called Rootpipe) but I figured now's as good a time as any to make the switch.

This is kinda interesting: https://paiza.jp/poh/enshura?locale=en

It's one of those programming challenges where you from excercise to an excercise, except it's Japanese and has a - rather bullshit - story delivered in manga pages form. It even (kinda spoiler)has choices - at least one. It supports Java, PHP, Ruby, Perl, Python, C, C#and C++ (via built in editor) plus has "beta" support for more: Objective-C, Haskell, Bash, D etc., etc.
And yes, it's in English as well.

Does anyone else pronounce "milk" more like "melk"? I think it might be the slight Jersey accent I never quite dropped, but my sister gets so mad at me for it.

Aaaaaand my Fight Stick is so much better. I went full Seimitsu and an octogon gate 'cause I've never tried one out. If I wanna see what Sanwa parts feel like, I'll just go to my friend's house.

The buttons the stock SE come with are so brittle. I lost three of them (on top of the one that broke first) just messing around with wires. Then again, maybe they were all gonna break soon.

So you have just swapped out the parts? I understood you were going to get a new one altogether, but now that I look at that post, and I just remembered wrong.

Meanwhile I'm looking for a PS2-compatible stick since I bought myself one last year and can't can't find anything at decent price. Guess Madcatz really changed everything in the last gen and made the sticks more mainstream. At worst I'll look work a broken pad and try to make a DIY one, I guess?

I know how you feel. When i was into shoot'em ups i got and modded my stick as well. I don't remember what it originally was, but the only thing i left as it was was the stick, since it already was Seimitsu. I replaced the buttons with Seimitsu as well and made a custom face plate.

It originally looked like this:

Well, I might get a new stick later, but for now I gotta make the one I got a real stick. I always wanted to get it better parts (for years, I've just been lazy), and now I have. ^_^;

If you're lookin' for a stick for the PS2... well, I hear there are some boards from Akishop that'll do that for you. You'd buy any stick out right now and that board, then wire up the stick to the board, and you'd have yourself a stick that you can use on the PS2, and a bunch of other systems, or so they say. A long time ago, there were some Cthulhu boards or... what, the Imps or something? Dunno how they're doing now, but the Akishop ones seem to be newer.

Sauce is good, but I don't think it's a requirement. Instead, use pre-seasoned meat if it's available.

Those are definitely both funny.
However, the overabundance of what seemed to be unnecessary cursing that served to make it more humorous for the ordinary person but only made it difficult to read for me, prevented me from really reading and enjoying the whole thing.
I don't curse, as you can guess, and too much cursing (especially the "F-word") kinda makes me cringe. Minimal amounts, sure, no big deal. But when it's excessive, well...

On a side note
I kinda wanna make an "Unpopular Opinions" thread. I feel like it'd be asking for a fight, but if I make it clear opinions are not to be argued 'til the cows come home, I feel like it'd be nice to just express unpopular opinions all in one thread. Just get stuff off our chests.

The problem with the "Unpopular Opinions" thread tends to go these ways:

1. Flame wars, arguments, those fun stuff
2. Opinions aren't really that "unpopular"
3. Can get touchy on certain subjects
4. IMO, not very interesting nor its healthy for my mood (or anyone's really)

I used to read that kind of topic on Serebii and it didn't end that well. It's so 'bad' that the thread was locked. There's the manga version of that, but I don't care for the manga series anyways.

Valid points. I think that's why I brought it up here before jumping straight into it.
We had one on vocaloidotaku forums for a while. People were very polite about it over there from what I saw, and it was interesting to see what people thought. But I definitely understand that it'd be easy to escalate into a flame war. A quick glance at the comment section of literally any YouTube video shows you that.

Then again, reading any negative stuff on any social media are bad for anyone's mental health unless you found them funny. Come to think about it, I should exercise some more to steam off my negativity because my mood is getting worse and it's making me tired.

You can never let go of that old scooter. Unless you're me in which case it's a leftover from the old house that was left behind and disappeared ever since.

I always wanted to get a motorized scooter until I realized that a bike would be better for me as it's great transportation without needing a license. Although I'm gonna need to inevitably take that driving test for my license since I am at that age now. Just need to practice.

On the topic of working out, walking, running, playing DDR, and doing strength training are my favorites.

Although I'm gonna need to inevitably take that driving test for my license since I am at that age now. Just need to practice.

I'm way past that age, but I haven't gotten my license yet, I am practicing at the moment so that I can get it!

Working out?
Cardio is my cup of tea. Walking, running, hiking, I can do that for hours.

I get little pleasure in dealing with heavy things or staying in one spot too long doing strength training.

Crossfit looks too dangerous, especially if you are doing it alone and I normally work out alone.

I mean, I know quite a bit thanks to Driver's Ed., but I still need to get practice with a few things, like using an accelerator.

Gosh, that moment when you know you're going to see Age of Ultron with your buddies. Those genuine nerd chills.

Looking back to the first Avengers, here's hoping there's a scene which rivals the Hulk-Loki fight in profound humor.

I literally watched all but the last, like, ten minutes of the first Avengers and I've never finished it, so I missed "that" fight.
Makes me so sad, really.

Heavy things are ew.
I find dancing better for me personally. It actually gives you a bit of a muscular workout depending on what you're doing. :U

OFF-TOPIC EDIT:

Looking back at my welcome thread and all the things I've done here before, including writing, art, all that...I feel like everything about me has matured SO MUCH. This forum itself kinda chronicles me growing up, I don't know. It feels weird.
Have any of you ever felt like that before? You just look back and realize, "Wow, I'm suddenly kind of mature."

There is a forum I joined on 2006, it is still alive but I left it with a group of friends I made there. We made a mass migration to a Skype group cause it accommodated us better.

It's fun and a little embarrassing and always nostalgic going back to the archives. So many bad opinions, much optimism, unwarranted anger and typos everywhere.

One amusing thing was me being really passive aggressive to a forum member I disliked. That forum member is now a great friend of mine that I've met in real life.

I actually have tried redrawing a few of them. Like the girls from my project, for one. That turned out great.
Except for Aime who somehow still looks bad

But I kinda like to just keep the old ones, just for nostalgia.

I know people who have done that.
I think, for me, the pure nostalgia factor that comes from looking at old works is enough to convince me not to burn most of them.

Feeling spirited today, as it is Mothers Day. There's not much I can say other than while I've many slumps in life, I grew onwards and I'm grateful for my mom bringing me to this earth, setting my behavior straight and then some. Kind of gives you goosebumps to reflect on so much, but we'll be opting to visit my sister's grave pretty soon. Peaceful vibes all-around.

I received the Takashi alto C and double alto C ocarinas i ordered 6 weeks ago. They sound so beautiful and clear, on the low as well as the high notes. They require quite a lot of breath, which i prefer, and the double ocarina is much better balanced and has a better hole placement than my focalink ensemble double.

It's love at first sight, or rather first... hearing.

Apparently, any time I choose to main a female character in a fighting game, the writers make sure that she goes through the worst stuff in the game. I'm like three for three, and was very close to four for four, out of almost all the fighting games that I've cared to play in the last few years. Ugh...

Fighting games story?
The series that got it best was Soul Calibur and they really dropped the dang ball in IV and more so in V.
They are either barebones (Street Fighter, Virtua Fighter) or ridiculous (BlazBlue and Mortal Kombat)

I used to be a big MK hater, but the past 2 games have really embarrassed all their peers and rivals in terms of sheer content and the games feeling less "icky" to play.

In a recent game?

I normally main girls too. Cammy, Eileen, Hitomi, Seung Mina (RIP in Peace ;_;)and now Cassie Cage.

In a recent game?

I've come to realize this after a friend and I blew through storytime in Xrd last night. All we wanted was to unlock a character, and when we thought about the time we spent watching it all, even blowing past as much of it as we could... we could've forked over the monetary equivalent of a can of soup and that would have been better.

Who are these characters in particular?

Street Fighter Alpha, Street Fighter 4 - Rose, who dies a lot in her endings.
Blazblue - Tsubaki was my instant main the moment I saw Continuum Shift. And she goes psycho.
Xrd Sign - Elphelt. No one really knows what happens to her, but yeah. Worst luck in the game.
Persona 4 - My almost four for four, I almost picked Labrys, who eventually gets a good ending. I mained Yuu in P4U.

I played a bit of Mahvel, but that doesn't really count.

I probably will, but i don't really feel confident, although i have been practicing Aoi Tori for quite a while now. But if i really want to make a serious recording, i'd want to do it with a backing track, which makes things much harder (your tempo really needs to be correct, which isn't all that important if you are just playing for yourself). Years ago, before i made a break with playing ocarina because learning japanese (kanji in particular) took a huge junk of my free time, i also practiced relations, i don't think it should be all that hard to get into that one again. I also want to practice yakusoku.

On that note: does anyone have an off vocals version of Aoi Tori, relations or Yakusoku?

In the meantime you can take a look at this piano/ocarina duet cover of yakusoku: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvwTgWcaVNg

As for my own recordings that have nothing to do with im@s, i have 2 i can offer, but i made them more to fiddle around a bit with reverb and i made a mistakes in both of them and they don't have backing tracks:
Cosmo Canyon (http://www.xanis.ch/ocarina/recordings/CosmoCanyon.wav) from FFVII, played on a Noble Alto F
Fields of Athenry (http://www.xanis.ch/ocarina/recordings/Fields_of_Athenry.wav) an Irish ballad, played on a Rotter ZFan Alto C.

Rose doesn't  really die, though. Her endings don't go well, but she usually ends up fine. Her endings in SFIV were sour, but watching them with Guy's ending makes it better.

But I do agree that Tsubaki goes apesh*t and it doesn't end well for her in CS.

Oh, wow. Glad I'm not the only one to notice this! I was looking on AmiAmi and CDJapan and the exchange rates have been really nice lately.
Speaking of CDJapan, I honestly wish more Japanese anime releases came with English subtitles. Even if the total price of all volumes is extremely high, it'll probably be less exhausting since volumes are released every other month or so. Plus, I just like the look and feel of better packaging than the standard blue cases lol.

... Eh, maybe I'm remembering things wrong, but it's like I go through Arcade mode just to do it, and I get rewarded with the game telling me I didn't actually win, and usually that I got my doors kicked in while I was at it. It only took like five or six appearances for her to get a good ending of any kind. I was surprised nothing bad happened to her at the end of Ultra.

But meh. I kinda notice in fighting games that even though I really like being an infighter, I tend to abuse pokes if I have them, and that's probably 'cause of Rose. Heck, when I tried picking up Gouken, I was poking a lot with him too - I was playing him the same way I played Rose. It probably helps that the fighting game friend I have mainly plays grapplers. Infighting, you need to know frames and matchups to do any good, so the learning curve is a little steep.

I do look forward to hearing you perform iM@S one day.

As for off-vocals, you can usually find them on Nico Nico Douga. I'd give links, but...NND is blocked on my laptop. Just like literally EVERYTHING ELSE. I'm surprised my mom hasn't found this place yet. That'll be a sad day.
You can even go onto YouTube, look for people who have covered the song you want, and check their description. Sometimes, these people give a link to the off-vocal they used to cover the song.

DOA:D is still a great game. To me, its the second-best fighting game on the 3DS. It used to be the overall best until Smash Bros. came out. However, the story is just too cheesy for its own good and fights literally happen for no reason but to have a fight.

I wonder if I really should be airing what I think most of the time.

It's the general thoughts thread, and yet every time I think about what I want to say, I decide not to, mostly because for some reason if I actually said anything at all, apparently someone's world goes supernova. (And I wish I was kidding, considering I worked as a journalist at one point, and if people are willing to address lead to you at several hundred metres per second...)

At the same time though, I do have to wonder why some things happen the way they do.  Take for example reciprocity and general online behavior. I've never quite figured out why when asking for something (or anything) that the person asking demands the world, instantly, and only how they want it, without offering anything in return, and get indignant if they don't get exactly what they want, how they want it.

I'd say it's an internet only thing, but I've seen this happen in my everyday life too.

Maybe I'm getting a bit old, but sometimes I really DO wonder if people are that shortsighted. From what I hear, there's always someone out there who I get the feeling everyone wants to kick for being (in the words of someone else) "Being completely self-centred and shortsighted to the point I want to punch her in the face, and this is coming from someone with Asperger's"

Thanks for  reading my random thought of the moment, I guess.

I heard it said once in a space presentation I saw that from the point of view of a galaxy, every galaxy sees itself as the center of the universe.

I like to think that's generally true of human beings. Of course, there are exceptions--I know lots of really sweet, humble people, both online and off--but I think the majority of people think of themselves as the center of the universe. Because of this, they often forget that there are other people out there that don't exist only to serve Mr./Ms. Center Of The Universe, and they feel as though they're entitled to whatever they want without realizing that people put hard work and lots of time and energy into whatever it is they're being given.

It's that mindset that causes problems of greed, selfishness, and pride on our planet. As I said, exceptions definitely exist, but unfortunately, those exceptions are often the ones that have to adjust themselves to adapt to the behaviors of the rest of the world, because the rest of the world thinks they're the only person who matters, and those who realize other people matter want to do nice things for those people.

...Well, that's just my two cents, at least. ...I apologize if that felt deep and almost out-of-character for me, but I've had this particular subject on my mind for a while too, actually.

Jesus Christ, May had passed so fast and in just two weeks, it's already June. It's crazy that graduation is almost there and I'll be in college after that. It's scary for someone with learning disability to make it this far but I don't know that until I actually step forward. It also might mean that I won't have a lot of free time.

I'll admit, people with learning disabilities are the most colorful individuals I've ever met. Our brain is a complicated thing. It's interesting how defects in the brain can either hinder or help a person. Most of the time, it screws them over, but it can allow them to do amazing things as well. They might act strange to some people, but they're just people who just need help even though some of them are pretty rude. Seeing some of them grow and becoming successful in life warms my heart. I'll thank my family and the people at my old private school for helping me along the way. I'm obviously not perfect, but that's life.

What annoys me is that we, "normal" people take advantage of them and treat them terribly. I've heard many horror stories of people hurting the disabled with some of them getting away and continue on hurting more victims. Some of them even had the guts to make a joke out of them and I found that a shame.

Anyways, that's how I'm feeling now. Have a good day.

I completely agree. Some of my favorite people have mental disabilities or learning disabilities (or a mental disability that IS a learning disability). I have a young cousin with Asperger's, a friend with diagnosed ADHD AND Asperger's, ANOTHER best friend with Asperger's, a very close friend with Down Syndrome...
They're honestly some of the sweetest people I've ever met. Super considerate, and very funny as well. It's so sad that some people make fun of them the way they do.

Mother of god, it IS almost June! Gah, I'm kinda nervous about graduation myself. Heck, I just took my last exam yesterday and, technically, I'm done with high school.

I know how you guys feel about the disabled. I volunteered at the YMCA's Special Needs program multiple times and those kids are absolutely adorable! I personally think that the best way to interact with the disabled is, and I might sound a bit like captain obvious, is to be normal with them. Despite what some people say, the disabled are still people too. Its why I can't stand the word "retarded" when used outside of the context of the medical condition.

Anyway, congrats ChocoCats on getting this far. Hope you have a great time at college.

I understand how hard it is to get a job, especially without any work experience. I applied to like 50+ jobs with several rejection notices. Eventually, I got an interview last month and last week, I got a tentative job offer (because a background check is required), meaning I have to move to Pennsylvania. But as always, one has to keep applying and probably focus one mind on something else such as a hobby or learning a new skill in the meantime. Eventually, it will come.

With that, I am close to getting a job, which will focus primarily with Databases. Yep, I need to brush up more on databases although I took some database courses during the fall semester before I finished my Master's Degree. Also went to my commencement two days ago, although I had my diploma already. But yes, I have to do more paper work, get used to driving and find a place to move before I can start working.

But yes, I plan to use some of my first paycheck on getting one of those Cinderella G4U packs since they look tempting, although I can't really spend too much since I have student loans to pay off and also living expenses. But yes, I got pretty lucky.

Well, I am finding a job. And hopefully, I'll get one. I just hope I do before three years will pass.

And for my first salary, I'm going to buy a big block of mozzarella cheese, a figma or something like that, and an airsoft gun. And some spices and herbs. And lotsa meat.

Once you get around to that exhilaration of being able to buy things you want upon first paycheck, you'll never want to stop. Here's to your fortune in the near future, Ivan.

While the price points of G4U -- as through the iM@S channel -- aren't nearly as bad nowadays, it helps to get acquainted with the volumes (http://www.project-imas.com/wiki/THE_iDOLM@STER:_Gravure_For_You!). Given Namco's awful penchant of sneaking in discounts and even at most the iM@S channel as a whole, I've a gut feeling one is better off waiting until then.

To emphasize, 765Pro's G4U Volume 1 was deemed nigh impossible to get cheap, so imagine my surprise?

Yep, it reminds me of the fifth episode of Gochuumon (I marathoned up to episode 7) when Sharo says that it's a great feeling when you first buy yourself something with your own money... Yep, I don't know what my first two paychecks will look like after living expenses, but I do want to buy something special with my first paychecks, although it can't be too expensive.

As for the G4U packs, I do own one of them (specifically the last volume), but knowing Namco, they will probably release them on iM@S channel for 1500 yen as always. So I guess if you really want to own the blurays as well, I say why not, although there are other games I want to get that will release in late summer such as the Kantai Collection Vita port.

But why don't you eat meat meat is glorious

On another note, I like recording myself reading old, really bad fanfictions of mine in the voices of characters. The first batch I did is probably one of the greatest things I've ever done with my life, and the next batch will probably be even better. I'm considering making a thread here for them to show people what crazy chizz I do with my spare time.

My own reason for not eating meat is that I can't stand the thought of animals being mistreated and killed.

I'd say that notion overthinks the daily matter of causality... but overall consensus would have us agree to disagree.

Anyway, don't you hate those dreams when you're being chased by something, though you'll barely budge a muscle?

Sucks pretty hard to look back and see this shit (http://twitchfilm.com/assets_c/2013/04/jurassic-park-thumb-630xauto-37698.jpg) of all things -- even as I realized the dream this told me I'm fucked. :P

Those are always the worst dreams. I was pretty lucky in childhood that the only dream I ever had when I was being chased by things were a bunch of zombies...and for some reason all I had to do was kick them, and they disintegrated. Except one, which stubbornly held on to its life despite being kicked thousands of times. It marked the end of that dream.

My own reason for not eating meat is that I can't stand the thought of animals being mistreated and killed.

So they're like fanfiction audiobooks? :) What universes do they take place in and what characters are in them?

Fair enough. My sister feels the same way.
My personal thought is that if we weren't meant to eat meat, God wouldn't have made animals so delicious. :U *shot I'm sorry*

On the topic of said fanfiction audiobooks, the universe was actually invented by a friend of mine and I who have this long-running roleplay that started over 5 years ago. It's now titled "Shadows Vs. Veros", but back then it was "Shadows Vs. Ryos", because my friend literally just picked a random Japanese word that sounded cool and stuck it there. And all of us pronounced it wrong too, as part of the fun. "Veros" was taken from a foreign language word for like "protector" or something but neither me nor my friend remember what language or what the word was or anything so use your imagination. :U
It's basically about two warring sides. The Shadows are quite literally aliens that came from earth and now possess people to turn them into other Shadows. Most Shadows have powers that are then passed on to whoever they possess. The Veros are the good guys. They also have powers, though other people without powers often ally with the Veros to support them in other ways.
That's all the essential information to have a background to the (really bad) fanfictions, but it's a lot more complex than that in its entirety.
I wrote these using a lot of characters that didn't belong to me, with permission from their owners. A lot of MY characters didn't exist back then, so those guys voiced everyone who didn't belong to me.
(I love this series can you tell)

The second batch is a bunch of Bakugan fanfictions. ...They're even worse because they're Bakugan.

Post by: altuixde on June 01, 2015, 11:22:30 pm
Since the Veros don't have the power of possession, they seem to be at a disadvantage. I wonder how they'll fight the Shadows. Guess I'll have to listen in to find out. ;D

Because it's my destiny, I'm going to open my mouth and cause someone's day to go supernova.

Okay, maybe not, but I've recently had to keep my powder dry in a series of talks with various people. They know who they are, and they know I declined to participate actively in the conversation due to conflict of interest, but they left me in the loop anyway.

And besides, they know of my concerns, and I know that in the grander scale of things, my concerns are minor, because you're dealing with millions of dollars.

I do wish I could show certain other people what I listen to though, even though I respect the confidentiality of the discussions being made. It'd be a nice big eye opener to people who really do think the world should work the way they think it does.

Or as I like to put it 'Just because it's good for you, doesn't mean it's good for everyone'.

Heck, 'Just because it's good for you may just mean it's terrible for everyone else'.

But of course I've been active in other fields, so consequently I'm basically deciding if I want to leave the country before I get deported for not being Australian enough.

http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/hundreds-could-face-deportation-under-proposed-terror-laws-peter-dutton-20150604-ghgyik.html

If you need an explanation why a law like this is a bad idea, I'd suggest studying Nazi Germany in detail. Or more accurately this:

If you can't arrest someone for terrorist activity, what do you have on them, really?

http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/joe-hockeys-advice-to-first-homebuyers--get-a-good-job-that-pays-good-money-20150609-ghjqyw.html

...

Where do I start?

Okay, the funny part is, the first half of that stupid statement isn't actually the worst of it. It's still incredibly insulting, but it's not the part I want to find him and kick him so hard that he can't have kids ever again.

(Namely, if you want that awesome job that pays 100k+ a year, you have to make yourself the candidate, and that's effort, time, and money, and there's no guarantee you'll make it. The idiot is ignoring the fact that there's only a few of these awesome jobs to nab compared to how many people want them, but you can't fault the guy for saying 'If you want that awesome job, earn it' apart from maybe telling him he's a jerk.)

The part I want to kick him is the incredibly bad financial advice that's attached to the second half.

Namely - You don't go for said 100k job just so you can increase your debt load.

In non accounting speak this means, The more you earn, the more you should be saving and paying out of said savings so you don't have to pay interest, or be caught in a situation where missing a paycheque for whatever reason can end you (like an accident).

In short? He should be kicked so hard he can't have children for going up on national stage and suggesting Australians (and anyone else listening) should screw themselves financially AFTER going to all the effort to NOT SCREW THEMSELVES FINANCIALLY. Because borrowing stupid amounts for housing is good, according to him.

... I really need to calm down. Honestly, I think I want out of here, just so I can watch this idiot blow up the country, along with the rest of the resident government mob.

The more I read about how screwy Australia is getting, the more I feel like it might actually be best for you to flee the country. You don't want to be around when everything comes crashing down, after all, but I understand that one does not simply up and move out of a longtime home.

Still, best of luck to you, Setsuna.

I'm a little too old to try for the 'Travel while young, then migrate using the time with the work visa to get a permanent residency trick'. That should give you an idea how old I am.

If I was to leave, I'd either have to get married (and no one in their right minds would marry someone like me), or be specifically sponsored by a business to fill a particular role. I don't have enough qualifications to do the latter, not that any company would want me right now.

I'd also have to avoid being in a US jurisdiction, due to my previous work as a journalist.

There's still a few ways, but it's not as easy as one would think.

I still have a few options (if I had the money) one of which would be to jump to New Zealand or another Commonwealth nation, but I don't have the income (or job prospects) to do that.

Australia is getting screwy, but the change can only be done so fast. It's pretty obvious that the changes are not of the incompetency type though (These 'mistakes' have happened far too many times to be a coincidence) , so the next question becomes 'How much money is behind the changes, and just what is this party willing to do to get what they want'

I suspect the answer is 'Far more money than I'm willing to count up to without scientific notation' and 'everything including murder' respectively.

I just finished reading a speech made by Senator Russ Feingold on October 25, 2001 about the USA Patriot Act.

https://epic.org/privacy/terrorism/usapatriot/feingold.html

He was the only senator who voted against the act (66 representatives voted against it in the House). It's a good read. Lots better than the bits and pieces I remember getting from watching the news back then.

Post by: Setsuna on June 25, 2015, 04:59:57 am
Well, as it is, I sort of got tied up with a few major things. I sort of wanted to do im@s stuff, but... well...

None of them pleasant, mind you. Maybe I just need to vent my spleen (or what's left of it, anyway) while I try to get my thoughts in order.

a) As part of the inquiries I get, sometimes I get asked to evaluate projects, among other things, Kickstarter projects.

I don't mean in terms of 'Is the kickstarter a good idea?', I mean 'So how much money does a project actually need to ask for anyway?'

So to throw some random facts out there, if you want to run a project with nine staff, all being paid at minimum wage, paid at 6 hours a day, 5 days a week, as well as a support staff of one to handle the non game development (stuff like PR, HR, accounts and management), and stick them in a cheap office with the equipment they'll need to make a game, in Australia, it'll require a kickstarter of a million dollars.

I'll let that sink in.

The fun part? The biggest cost is the fact that the Australian Tax Office treats Kickstarter funds like income (Because it is, because it's not equity) and consequently, the money is taxed at the company tax rate of 30%. Or in short, the ATO claims 300k before you even get to touch any of that lovely million dollars.

Most of the rest of it is personnel (yes, at minimum wage which is 16 AU/hour, and that's before the employee gets taxed), licenses to operate (Adobe/3ds Max/ Virtual Studio/Unity /Music and sound licenses etc), and equipment, then the costs of the physical place, in that order.

In short? Anyone who says that game companies are greedy hasn't actually sat down to actually FIGURE out where the money goes. I just had the fun of figuring out what a million dollars gets you, and it's not much.

Now, this isn't even considering the caliber of the people working, this is just the straight math.

In other countries, the tax rate varies, although it's not all that low (You don't see anything sub 15% in a lot of places, short of Ireland, anyway).

b) Australian politics.

 http://www.smh.com.au/federal-politics/political-news/citizenship-could-be-stripped-for-wide-range-of-offences-under-terror-laws-20150624-ghwv2y.html

All I have to say is this - Why don't we just SHOOT people we don't like? Clearly if they're too dangerous to be Australian, they're too dangerous to live, right?

If nothing else, we wouldn't have to deal with the farce that we have right now. On a side note, I'm looking for a new country to live in, if someone with enough money is willing to sponsor me. I frankly don't want to be anywhere near here when the obvious happens.

Problem is I can't take the United States, due to an outstanding matter regarding a previous US action where I was told in no uncertain terms what would happen if I did my job with the Associated Press. It involved addressed airmail to the hotel I would be posted at.

Before you ask, the only reason I didn't end up going was because the hotel ceased to operate the day before my flight. I guess I was lucky that I spent the extra 2 days exchanging bitter words with the US high command officer about that notice.

c) Censorship, or more accurately understanding how freedom of speech works.

One thing I get to deal with a lot is about how surprised people are when I tell them most people aren't actually in favour of freedom of speech, and actually like censorship over actual freedom of speech.

This topic comes up a significant number of times, usually because people find out I've done work with the Australian Classifications Board, and the conversation always turns towards how the board censors things unfairly.

Most people get rightfully insulted when I point out that most people actually like censorship, and would actually support censorship over any actual freedom of speech if given the chance.

It's a road I've been down a lot, but it always amounts to this - You don't really know if you support actual freedom of speech until you run across speech you don't like. You won't try to restrict speech you actually like.

I've been down that road more often than I'd like (due to my contract work), and then you really find out if you actually believe in it or not.

The answer for most people is a big irrevocable no. Most people don't like hearing things they don't like (It's circular, but quite true) and will call for the censorship of said item, because if they don't like the contents, clearly it must be bad.

Now, that doesn't mean you have to be tolerant of said speech (namely, you're free to apply the CONSEQUENCES of said speech to someone, and I strongly encourage people into doing so) but if someone wants to be a moron and open their mouths and reveal that fact, we don't actually have any right into stopping them, barring any actual contracts or other bits of law that prevent you from doing so.

I lose a lot of friends this way.

d) Education in Australia (at least NSW) cost wise jumped by about a factor of 20 to most people.

http://www.smh.com.au/national/education/tafe-teachers-and-students-furious-over-ghost-town-campus-20150624-ghw2qr

Considering that as a nation, we've been pushing people to 'get smarter', it's quite ironic that the next thing we do is jack up the cost of getting said people smarter by a factor of 10 or so.

Then you have to couple in the fact that these young people then have to chase a shrinking job market (statistically, we're something like 50 people per actual job vacancy at the moment, and that number is rising), an inflating housing market (so on top of the massive loans for education, we're going to have our lucky young people chase loans of between 700k-1m) and a deflating wage market (Median wages have actually gone backward. In short, getting a pay rise is not a thing, and any rises usually are compensated by a significant increase in the amount of actual work (hours/effort) done.)

Essentially, I get the feeling all the young people in this country (and worldwide) just got royally screwed, and I have no idea what's going to happen next.

It might just be me, but maybe the only correct option is to consider taking up alcoholism.

This is so true.  The fact that they sell MSG flavoring packets in every food vendor across the country certainly doesn't help.  That and the way they advertise these things.

To be honest, though, every time I fry eggs, I practically put a lot of those seasonings in them. Yeah.

But really, I enjoy instant food, so I don't really care at all.

Found this epic win comment on youtube.

Nah, wherever I found interest in a topic I'll just jump in and start talking, even if no one will reply but hey, there's nothing wrong that I want to write down my opinion towards something :) Literally "speak my mind."

There was a topic on a big forum about who's the most and least toxic fanbase.  I didn't pay much attention until they started discussing some of the nicest fanbases.

One of the most polite fanbases mentioned were the Kirby fans, and I was like cool since I'm a Kirby fan.  Though, I don't think I'm quite living up to my name, so I guess I need to try harder.

Kirby fans are usually pretty awesome from what I've seen. They LOVE to speculate about the events of each and every game and I enjoy how observant people can get.

I would talk about a toxic fanbase, but I don't want to bring on a huge argument. Plus, anybody that knows me well can tell EXACTLY what I'm talking about. :/

As far as toxic fan bases, all I'll say is this: you can find toxic members in ANY fan base. Some have a higher concentration of them than others, but you'll find some in everything.

I mean, just look at the kinds of people the im@s fandom found when we allowed guest posting.

Sometimes that toxicity can be rather hilarious though (hence all the youtube videos with pros raging).

For what time I've dabbled in MOBAs, I was a full-time spectator of the original DotA from WarCraft 3. There's just so many intricacies with team play and character builds that it kept me hooked. In the now, HotS happens to be among my favourite games -- the streamlined game play and Blizzard universe is what sold me, especially.

That being said, I take to playing LAN parties and the occasional comp-stomp online. Community-wise, the masses haven't changed one bit -- with the bulk of them being rage machines and the like -- but part of me can't help but appreciate this as a guilty pleasure. Having long gotten used to it, you either go in deep or get spat out.

I actually used to play a TON OF wc3 in my elementary school years- all the custom maps were the bomb.
Then my computer scratched and I lost my cd. rip ;-;
I believe I had tried out the original dota back then and was like 'wtf is this crap'.Proceeded to click buttons and leave.

I think I had moved onto MOBAs because the mmorpg genre had rapidly become stale around 2007~ era. Mabinogi and Maplestory were my last two real mmos- everything else seemed to be bread and butter copies of WoW and the typical right click rpg genre. MOBA matches are never quite exactly the same since you're always playing against other people. In mmorpgs I don't really feel like the experience changes too much- though I greatly enjoyed many, many mmos. There was always these stratification between what kind of content high level players could access versus beginners- in mobas I don't feel there's a huge gap in content like that.
(though tbh I'd probably be ogling these new high-end mmos like BLESS and the such if my potato graphics card could handle it. XD)

HOTS was fun for a while but then I had gotten too used to not having to buy all of my heroes from DOTA 2 XD.  The (somewhat differentiated) goals on each map was what really made it stand apart. Do you still play other MOBAS or just HOTS?

So, I read an interesting article from an anime news website that talked about the differences between how Westerners and Japanese view their own idols/singers in real life.

To sum it up, the West views idols/singers as simply people with talent like a career.  They are there to put on a good show.  So, it’s okay if they do stuff what normal people do such as fall in love, etc.  As long as they don’t do something that’s illegal.

However, in Japan it’s very different.  They view idols as an “illusion”.  Basically, a perfect doll whose purpose is to make fans dream about being with them.  So, if they do anything “impure” or fall in love, then the fan’s “illusion” will be destroyed since their idol is not a perfect angel and cannot fantasize them.  After all, their idol is in love with someone else, so they can’t pretend to be with them.

The Japanese negative attitude towards idols falling in love has influenced many idol animes where the idol characters strongly despise the notion of falling in love by saying it’s a scandal and it’s wrong.

But, I do remember Wake-Up Girls addressing this controversy of idols being unable to love someone else.

Idolm@ster is one of the few things that I believe actually doesn’t really follow this formula 100%.  There was one manga (Idolm@ster mana) where a few idols were discussing about why they can’t love.    But, for the most part Idolm@ster (including CG and ML) avoids this especially since the main protagonist (the producer) represents you.  Of course, most of the time the idols are just teasing or having a crush.  But, other times some idols fall in love.  One example can be seen in Chihaya’s story in Idolm@ster 2 and One For All.  I’m sure there are other examples of CG and ML characters who are seriously in love with the producer.  And, it’s why I like Idolm@ster more compared to the other idol franchises where the concept of falling in love is strictly forbidden.

I personally share the West’s attitude and believe idols/singers should be able to fall in love since their work is a career.

Me too. If anything else, I'll be glad if they found somebody. Same thing with seiyuu. I was happy when Minoru Shiraishi announced his marriage. Also with Kana Ueda.

I only search for seiyuu controversy for two things: One, because of natural Filipino curiosity. Two, because I want to see how the Japanese fans react. Their reactions are spectacularly amusing, especially when they destroy their merchandise because they knew that their idols have fallen in love and not virgin anymore. Their tears are delicious.

I heard the Cinderella Girls game has every single idol be able to fall in love with Producer.

Besides that, I never completely understood why Japan treats their idols and celebrities like this. I mean, you can chalk this up to cultural differences, but it's a cultural difference I can't seem to understand the reason for. To me, idols are essentially people that have careers and make more money than me. They fall in love, get married, have children, etc. They have lives outside the stage. I'm pretty sure idols are living human beings like the rest of us. :p

Honestly, Japanese idols and celebrities aren't really that different from our western counterpart by the way they're treated. The West is probably more open-minded about it, but that doesn't stop tabloids from happening.

Also, Korea (and some extensions, China) suffers from the same problem Japan has on their idols. And to be frank, the concept of idols in the East is hilariously silly and makes me wonder why people there would accept such a stupid concept in the first place. While I don't find it important enough to really hate it, it's enough to make my eyes roll.

Tabloids will happen, but in the West it isn't nearly as taboo for a celebrity to be in a relationship as it seems in Japan, unless the celebrity is of the Disney teeny-bopper kind; however, that's more due to contractual reasons than anything else.

From what I understand, it's only idols that get the no dating rule. It's due to their "pure" images, I think. Also, there's a lot more self-insertion going on with idols and fans? Like AKB made an app where you can mix your face with an idol's to make a baby. Which is creepy as hell. Meanwhile American starlets get almost pushed to be in relationships... And if there aren't any relationships or huge breakups going on, a tabloid will manufacture one.

It's the same base idea, where a female celeb's everything is considered public info, but with very different outcomes.

iM@S DOES refer to the concept in a few songs besides (We Have a Dream and Zenryoku Idol both say hi, and in Zenryoku that's the primary focus) - but despite the implications of romance, does it actually address the implications of fans actually finding out the idol is in love? That tends to be the larger issue I'm seeing here - with the producer, it's probably not as glaringly apparent as it'd be with some random person, since you'd have to expect the producer to be working on their idol's behalf to start with.
I'm not really sure if the point is addressed so far as Mai either (though she seems to be a special case, since she could make a comeback).

If there's a lot of self-insert involved when it comes to idols, I could also see iM@S' appeal as being forbidden fruit, too. After all, the forbidden thing is much more appealing.

Yes, that's true that there are other instances where Im@s refers to this concept.  Those are good examples you brought up.  I guess what I meant was that Im@s doesn't follow it completely 100% unlike other idol franchises.  Of course, the only evidence I have to back up that statement is the fact that the producer can follow a close personal relationship (or in other cases fall in love) with the idols at least through the games (though some people tried to ship Touma and Haruka from the anime since they're from the same profession).

As you mentioned, this is probably easy due to the producer working behind the scenes and not apparent to everyone.   In other idol franchises there are no ifs, ands, or buts about being in love.  It doesn't matter if it's a producer, classmate, or another idol.  There's no such thing as falling in love for those idols.  At least Im@s has some leeway though it's restricted towards the producer only.

I believe in Uta no Prince sama there are instances of romance scenes with the idols and the main character, so Im@s isn't the only thing to break that barrier.  Obviously, both franchises have a visual novel type appeal, so having the idols fall in love with the main character is normal.  But, at least in my opinion that's better than not falling in love at all just because you're an idol.

fans actually finding out the idol is in love? That tends to be the larger issue I'm seeing here

I can see that as an obstacle (if they are like the JP fans).  But, nearly all dialogue is between the idols and their producer and colleagues.  So, I think the fans are not that important at least story-wise.  Besides, by the time love happens it's already the end of the game, so we don't see that problem occuring.

After all, the forbidden thing is much more appealing.

That's true.  It's kind of like the sibling love you see a lot in anime.  Though, I personally wouldn't classify idols falling in love as forbidden, but that's my opinion.

Finished my first day of work in the Federal Government and yep, it's pretty different. Spent most of my day meeting coworkers, attending orientations and such. Yep, I spent most of my day not doing much but sitting at an empty cubicle since they haven't given me a computer (or rather a laptop) and a smart card to login. I guess I'll spend most of my time reviewing stuff on databases and such since that is the job I will be doing.

But yes, I'm glad that I'm earning a paycheck. Time to buy some Anime stuff (planning to buy the 3rd Cinderella G4U and Kantai Collection Vita port this month and Yoru no Nai Kuni and a special edition version of Atelier Sophie for the Vita), but of course I can't spend it all since I need to pay for mortgage, student loans and living expenses. Also, I want have some savings as well for peace and mind since I only get paid every two weeks.

The plus side with work is that you don't have to study for exams or do homework while you get paid. Considering that I like computers, I guess I will mostly enjoy my job although I do need to brush up more on databases, but I will get training for that.

These past two weeks have been busy, toasty (leftover high pressure from monsoons in Baja California are making it pretty muggy up here), and unlucky. Busy with four job interviews, unlucky because three of them were failures. And I've been struggling to find a new job that fits my abilities perfectly. Been the same old story ever since I got laid off from my last position back in May 2013. My interview skills have gotten much better, but even with the help of the Department of Rehab, my luck just falls short...always losing to people with more experience.

A week from now I'm heading to PMX...too bad it happens to be on the same weekend as Saboten-con, which I've really been wanting to go to for a while now. Still, I've managed to book my first official con performance since I started posting my keyboard covers! I've put together a lineup celebrating the 10th anniversary of iDOLM@STER and the 5th anniversary of Love Live. Been practicing quite a bit recently, but now that the rest of next week is free I'm clear to practice more diligently. I'll have the performance recorded and posted into my "keyboard cover me" thread once I get the chance. Wish me luck!

Aside from that, after I work on a fanfiction, I'm thinking of designing a sprite battle PowerPoint animation designed like a Shining Force/Fire Emblem-style strategy RPG (I always tend to give my animations a video game/visual novel sort of feel). The first eight levels are selected Megaman style. Now I just have to come up with a good party and playable mechanics.

I signed up for a Japanese class, so... we'll see how that goes.  8)

Well, from memory, someone made basically what amounts to an SRPG maker, in 2D FE style, complete with a FE mechanics set preassembled.

It's fairly well featured, and has most of what you'd be looking for (Since there's an engine behind this) but the catch is that it's currently only in Japanese, so you'd need a way around that. (Hey, I'm vaguely useful even without all my equipment at the moment.)

As for me? I'm still too busy coughing up crap (apparently surviving a fire with asbestos has consequences) and more worrying, my roommate's gone down harder than I have.

So I'm here with mostly nothing to do, because he's the one who covers the rent (and I handle all the other stuff, and all the admin/paperwork) and without his approval, I can't resettle, and without any of my stuff working (Setting up where I am is not a good idea) I can't really do much else.

It makes me borderline useless right now, and it's really, really depressing.

Yep, it's not the first time the post office damaged my packages from Japan. For a while now, I decided to buy the Cinderella Girls G4U packs since I kind of want to own the series on Blu-ray. I decided to do so when I decided to buy the 2nd volume and I thought to myself, I may as well buy all 9 since I have some disposable income because I mostly spend my time at home and not going out to eat at all, except special occasions. So far, I have Anastasia, Anzu, and Rika. Now the 5th one came in the mail and of course, the delivery box is somewhat dented. When I open the package, yep the box is somewhat damaged but the contents are ok. It's very ironic that it happens to be the volume featuring Honda Mio, that girl who fans loves to hate for some reason because of what happened in the 6th episode. It's pretty ironic to say, but I usually don't get dented boxes through Air Mail (EMS is too expensive and I don't need it badly). Probably the postal workers were throwing the boxes like footballs or something.

I do need to get the first volume soon.

Is it only me that don't hate Mio at all and, instead, just shook his head out of bleakness and pitied her, as if you just want to hug the poor little bundle of enthusiasm because her expectations were so far from reality and she was clearly too young to understand it?

I don't hate Mio, I just don't think too highly of her anymore. Really, she's more heavy joke bait for me than anything else.

Haha, poor Mio.  I sorta used to be one of those people tbh. Well, I didn't hate her.  I just didn't like her character from the beginning, her and Riina were my least favorite of the main cast and that ep. really didn't help her earn any points with me.  Though now, I like to think that whole thing was a terrible misrepresentation of her character and blame the writers for using her as fodder for that forced drama bomb and development.  Cause I actually like her quite a bit now.(guess she just slowly grew on me XD)  She isn't a bad girl.  Well, at least I don't find her annoying like I used to.

That's a nice haul though!  I spy Nu on that Hanayamata album ehehe. XD  I seriously didn't know she was even casted as one of the girls until like after I finished watching it lol.  I feel like a failure of a Hibiki/im@s fan for not recognizing her voice sooner. x.x

On a side note, my lack of common sense is astounding sometimes... It took me about an hour and half to find out the reason my washer wasn't completing its drain cycle was cause the load size was set wrong.  And I guess the thing won't spin and dry properly unless it's on the right setting. -.-  Man, there were also a few incidents where I couldn't turn the dryer on simply cause I forget to close the dang door lol.  *face palm*

I just find Mio to be an easy target when it comes to making fun of characters. Like, I don't do it out of spite, but I will joke about Mio at her expense. That's just me, really.

Good morning. I'm still a bit wobbly from the night before, what with my reason being I've celebrated becoming quarter of a century old.

Yep.

Birthday was wonderful, given mom and go providing a hearty Boston Pizza meal and a PS4. Cherishing this for many old years to come.

"Old."

That said, it takes you back -- like how time often flies and age jokes become that much more abundant you're desensitized at this point.

*Sniff*

But then again, I'm having it easy. Least I didn't get Birthday punches or the like. That, and I can relish in age woes with Hibiki-chan~. :3

Right?! ;~;

I know it's really frustrating to work so hard and yet come out empty handied.  Unfortunately, unemployment is way too common.

My older brother went through the same thing even though he went through grad school.  He was frustrated and depressed after looking for a position for years.  But, he kept on trying out different things to make himself look better while keeping himself busy.

By some miracle he was able to find a job.  It was torture, and he never wants to relive those wasted years of trying to find a job.

But, I always find myself respecting people who struggle immensely to find good in life (it could be anything like coping with an illness).  Not only because I can sort of relate to their hardships since I experienced some failures in life, but also they motivate me to improve myself since I want to strive to become a better person.

It's understandable how hard getting a job can be. It took me 5 months to get a job in the Federal Government (and I had a Bachelors and Master's Degree with no job experience) and I got over 40+ not referred letters or rejected, which is very discouraging. While I was lucky to get a job on my first interview in April, I had to move to get the job since not all the jobs were in New Jersey. During that time, I kept myself busy programing, blogging and playing video games. In this rough job market, you have to look beyond where you live. Sure, you have to get your own place, but at least you will have a job.

Also, consider volunteering as it will help improve your resume.

I don't know if I mentioned this, but I finally landed a job...and a permanent one where I can rise further in the company at that! I got started back on the 19th. I just can't believe that I, of all people, landed this position after so much bad luck in the job market!

Things are finally starting to look up for me! I've got a pretty fast-paced work week, but I'm still working on new projects. I think I have two ideas for Powerpoint animation projects.

If you leave waffles in there for a long time after toasting them(especially if you make 'em crispy), they will harden up(or become chewy if originally soft).

Probably gonna buy my first car on Monday, and i'm really excited about it because this car (or it's predecessor) is a childhood dream of mine since playing the very first Need For Speed about 20 years ago. Since then, in every racing game i used one of these 2 cars whenever they were even remotely available. It's quite a strange car to be a childhood dream, but then, i'm strange as well :p

a Mazda RX-8

It's the last car to be produced with a Wankel rotary engine, so it's something special and different from the usual. I say "probably" because it's a second hand car since they aren't sold anymore in Europe since 2010 due to emission regulations. When i found out about this thought that if i want one of these cars, then it's probably best do buy it now. I went on a test drive with it last weekend, and everything seemed okay. But on Monday i'll bring it to an independent test center which will check the car thoroughly and tell me if everything is in order with it. If everything is alright, i'll buy it.

And then i intend to put a Yukiho on the bonnet and/or the sides. Does anyone have a high resolution and/or vector graphics picture of Yukiho in idol clothes and with a transparent background?

Well, depends what sort of idol clothes you want. If you're willing to work with a blue screen, you pretty much have a 720/1080p shot of any im@s2X360  costume, if you're out of any other options, I suppose.

I'm not sure if they're high enough resolution to put on a car, though. You could also take an image without transparency and then remove the background.

Thanks a lot, i'll see if the resolution is high enough (first i need the car anyway).
I'd love to have the picture from the pops in a decent resolution. This one:
I might even consider to scan in my pop, but i'd need to find some place which is able to do that since it's big and can't be bent.

The problem with removing the background myself is that the border is never clean that way, it always has artifacts. At least with my tools/skills.

The only picture i have found myself so far is this:

Since scanning your pop isn't feasible, you could try taking a photo of it and then correcting the perspective with software like Plumb-Bob (https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/plumb-bob-perspective-rectifier/id964550751?mt=12). To get the best quality image file make sure the pop is evenly lit, use a tripod, low ISO, and a very long exposure time. You can even take multiple photos and average them together to remove noise. Actually, I can do the perspective correction and averaging for you, all you have to do is send me the photos. :) Oh, I'd also need the dimensions of the pop (four easily identifiable points on Yukiho and their x and y coordinates).

If you can wait, you might want to try your luck in the vectoring thread on 4chan's /w/. Although that image is really small and there's a huge chance it'll get ignored because of that. Maybe really try the photo, but have somebody vector it for image quality?

Actually yeah, vectoring the photo would be the best. Now that I'm on PC, it's far smaller than it looked on my phone. No way anyone would even try making the details from a picture that small.

There's always a lot of injuries and a few deaths nowadays, and if you get a chance, touring stores as it happens (or just after) is quite educational. It's less so now due to the advent of online, and the current economic climate though.

I used to do it for Boxing day sales (in Australia) and seeing where the damaged goods at major department chains were. If you want real carnage, watch the electronics or the women's clothing sections.

Have you seen Shaun Of The Dead? Obviously being inspired by Romero it also has it, but it's a comedy and the opening scenes are amazing for it.

^ Luv that movie! XD

I'm suddenly reminded of this one Black Friday vid at Walmart (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dFFqUdToBGc) from a couple years back.  Think ya'll prolly saw this already, but this guy's wife got trapped under a crowd of people fighting over TVs and he went in there pushing and pulling people off to save her.  Another place to avoid lol.  Scary seeing people turn into animals like that over their own greed.  Everyone stay safe.

Electronics are a given, what with current-gen consoles. This really does bring the worst out of people, but part of me desires to go crowd-surfing on these mobs. It'd be an improvised line cut! :3

after altuixde made the averaging and perspective correction for me, i tried to remove the background.
This is what i ended up with:

I don't know if this can be used to make a huge "sticker" for a car, but at least it's better than the other images i have.

The lighting is still a bit uneven. For example, her left hand (on our right) and her knees are more brightly lit than her right hand and her face. I think that there is software out there that is designed to correct this, but I've only seen this sort of functionality in apps for scanning receipts with a smartphone's camera. I'll keep looking for a solution. But first I gotta go eat lunch. ^^

Yeah, i had the light on the right side to avoid reflections. I couldn't work with just daylight because it was very cloudy (and will stay so for the next few days).

I guess the best solution would still be if i could find a place where i could scan it. I have found several places that can scan things in this size, but i don't know if those scanners also work with cardboard (as in: the material to be scanned can not be bent)

Typical bad days I just shrug it off and continue my normal routine and hobbies.

Really bad days like trying to resolve a really huge family conflict, I need a couple of hours to recuperate by pacing around in my room to collect my thoughts.  Then, I go back to my normal routine and hobbies.

I've had intestinal surgeries as a result of Meckel's Diverticulum and, by that, they removed many sections of my intestines. They took away a kidney basin-full of it.

Sister: You're going to get hungry so take this.

Me: Oh, thanks.

Mother: You see?  How many times do I have to tell you?  Older sisters are loving and caring.

Double-posting, but I had a idea.

What if Idolm@ster characters had personalities in the spirit and style of Dilbert, the comic strip?

How will it play out as a satirical commentary of the Japanese idol industry?

If Uzuki or Haruka is the Dilbert, then who will be the Wally? Or Alice and Tina? Who will be the Ratbert, Dogbert and Catbert? What kind of PHB would Executive Mishiro will be? How does the Producer play out in this?

Something I would like to share with you all.

I was playing Mario Kart 8 online.  There was one person who was really, really good.  We were neck-to-neck in most races.

So, he sends this message.

The 2nd sentence is what really surprised me.  I'm not quite sure what I did to deserve such praise, but it got me thinking.

Even if people you interact with (real life or online) don't appreciate your etiquette, which happens to me a lot.

If one person acknowledges it, then it's worth it. (I don't know, but that's what I feel).

I'm not sure how my behavior is on this forum, but I certainly hope I'm living up to the praise this stranger gave me.

You know, whenever a character in other games/anime share the same name as an im@s character, I actually have to stop myself from thinking of the actual im@s idol.

For example, I'm watching my twin brother play this visual novel, and one of the heroines is named Ritsuko.  I guess since I delve into im@s for such a long time that the im@s Ritsuko seems come up in my mind whenever I see/hear her name in that visual novel.

Considering it's a Phat figure, expect the Yuriko figure to release two months after its original set release. I preordered the Yukiho Phat in June when it was first up, and its November release ended up delayed to the beginning of this month.

Apparently, it's a very common occurrence for Phat figures.  :P

Aye, skidding on black ice is scary as hell.  Happened to me a few weeks back when I was driving and all of a sudden I just lost control of the wheel for a few seconds, nearly sliding down a small slope.  I should take that advice lol I always tend to drive like 20-30 over the limit.  ::)

Guys, dumb question, but what's the proper pronunciation of this site? XDD

Is it Project:
eye-mass   ee-mass
eye-muss   ee-muss
eh-mass     eh-muss
emmas?

In my head, I've always been instinctively saying it like "Project ee-muss" (like the "imasu" part in ganbarimasu with the silent "u") just cause I like how it sounds and eye-mass doesn't sound right to me.  Just curious cuz I don't wanna sound weird if I ever bring it up in a casual conversation or something lol.

personally i follow the japanese prononciation (which is basically what people here wrote). Listen how the idols say "idolmaster" (アイドルマスター "aidorumasutaa") and leave out the unnececarry parts (ドル "doru" and ター"taa") which leaves you with アイマス "aimasu", where the "u" is pretty much silent

I pronounce it with "ee", but that's because I'm Polish, and it's the only reading for "i" in my language. I know in English it isn't and pretty sure that's not the right pronunciation, but force of habit, I guess (and I never had an opportunity to speak about iDOLM@STER in English with anyone).

Oh! Okay, that makes sense.  The reason why it didn't sound right to me was because I kept imagining the American way of pronouncing idolmaster lol particularly in the "master" part.(so like ai-mass instead of ai-mahs)

Aye, in Filipino language "i" is pronounced as "ee" also so that's prolly why lol.

Anyone here experienced with imagemagick? I know that this command will scale down a bunch of images:

convert *.jp2 -scale 50% -quality 40 scaled-%d.jp2

but I'd also like to keep the original file names as part of the output file names. The above command produces output files named scaled-0.jp2, scaled-1.jp2 and so on. I'd like to have file names like [original file name]-scaled instead. While I'm at it, how can I activate scaling algorithms other than nearest neighbor (like catrom)?

I don't know this program at all, but just 'cause I'm curious, I went ahead and looked at their site. They say this for scale:

Quote from: http://www.imagemagick.org/script/command-line-options.php
The results are thus equivalent to using -resize with a -filter setting of box. Though it is a lot faster, as it avoids all the filter processing of the image. As such it completely ignores the current -filter setting.

So -filter and -resize immediately look like what we want to me. -filter seems to have a bunch of options you can use, Catrom being one of them.

http://www.imagemagick.org/script/command-line-options.php
http://www.imagemagick.org/script/command-line-processing.php

Ctrl-F those to get to what you wanna look up. As for image name, with the few minutes I've spent looking this stuff up, I can't give a definite yes or no, but I did find a page that talks about the escape characters they use.

http://www.imagemagick.org/script/escape.php

I assume this is for all the command line options they have with a quick skimming, and if so, you might want to look at %i, %t, or %[base]. There could be others.

So, I'd imagine something like...

convert *.jp2 -filter Catrom -resize 50% %t-scaled.jp2

... would be close to something you'd want. Again, I'm just reading what they've said, so you might wanna look over it yourself a bit. Hope I've given a pointer or two, though.

Thank you for your help, Cael! It looks like using -resize and -filter Catrom is producing the desired effect. However %i, %t, and %[base] all failed to produce the original file name. I'll look through the links you posted and see if I can figure it out. Actually, I'll have to do it at some indefinite time in the future because I'm kinda busy right now. That's why I posted my question instead of hunting for the answer myself. ^_^

Head, meet desk.

I know what I want to do, but I think I forgotten how to program flat out.

Anyway, Xcom 2 came out (as you well know) and since I thrashed the game into small bits, I've been looking into the modding aspects.

Thing is, I think I need someone I can work with, cause I can't program for my life, except I know what I'm looking at and I THINK I understand ways around,  but well, I really, really need to work with someone who can work with unreal script (Which is an OOP similar to Java) and help me actually write the code.

Then again, I'd like to work on various bits of design I have sitting on my table...

I lurk once in a while, but generally the last few months have been very busy aside from now that I am working and hardly have time, except for after work and weekends.

Aside from that, I got my refund and aside from paying off debt off, I finally got my thunderbolt dual display setup that I planned on doing for a while since I needed at least one Thunderbolt monitor to make it work. While it's expensive, the LG monitor I got has very good picture quality although I got it as an open-box. which is $200 cheaper than new. Had to get a used Thunderbolt Dock to make the second monitor to work since it couldn't be hooked up directly. On the flipside, I only need one cable to be able to access everything.

Just an observation.  But, it's surprising to see how much money people are willing to spend on a particular kickstarter.  Like you'll see several people going for those high-end rewards of $1500-$4000 on one kickstarter.  I know it's their money and can do whatever they want with it which is fine.  Still, sometimes I wish I had that kind of money in my wallet.

If I had that kind of money in my wallet, I'll buy more groceries, medicines or more meagerly useful stuff myself. Besides, I never had a graphics card my whole life. Like, seriously.

But speaking of medicines, I'm officially sick again and on a restricted diet. It's a bit harder than it looks.

I've been recently trying to crack eggs with one hand.  (I remember in the past Haruka doing that during the Gero Gero Kitchen episode).

I had to watch some youtube tutorials.  Apparently, if I hit the egg too hard, then it comes out messy.  But, if I hit it too lightly, then nothing comes out and hitting it again will cause it to be messy.  So, I'm trying to figure out the right amount of force needed without messing up.

It might help to think about how deep to make the crack, or in other terms, how far to push the edge through the egg. Give the egg a nice, quick rap in the middle, and have the crack go just deep enough that you can complete the split with your fingers. I think gravity should also help for this last part too.

Do it fast and accurate enough and there shouldn't be any shell pieces falling out. Too slow or too shallow and the shell won't split cleanly and will crumble, dropping shell pieces. Too deep, and obviously the egg blows up in your hands. You need speed to make this happen, but all I think about is how deep (or if you prefer, when to pull the strike back). Theoretically, even if I hit it pretty fast, the egg will only crack as far as the gash I give it.

Theoretically, even if I hit it pretty fast, the egg will only crack as far as the gash I give it.

I was taught by a chef a long time ago that the best to crack an egg was actually on a flat surface - cracking it by using an edge would always end up with some fragments of the shell in the resulting exit. That and you don't risk breaking the yolk inside if you crack it against a flat surface, although this may not be an issue depending what you want to do with the egg (Yolk splitting/scrambled eggs/making a cake or whatever).

It takes quite a bit of practice though, although I have been caught dual cracking eggs when I'm really in a hurry (not perfectly cleanly though due to being one hand dominant) and it's kinda tricky to be using a specific finger to part the shell, although apparently when you do it 12 eggs in a row perfectly without making a mess or skipping a beat, you look like a pro chef and I was told that they wished they filmed me doing it. (I've only ever pulled it off once, and I imagine I'll never do it again. That said, I'll probably not cook breakfast for 8 people in a hurry anytime soon again either.)

Bear in mind though that making a mistake by swinging too hard is a LOT worse than doing it by edge - sometimes you'll just end up with an entire egg on the table, and you're scratching your head about how an egg got out of a shell so quickly while still holding onto a shell that you could roll out flat in one piece.

More often, you hit the egg a little too hard and you leave behind a bit of the yolk as you move it to the pan.

Hitting not close enough results in a lot of problems too (Basically, if you don't swing quite hard enough, your second attempt WILL cause the entire egg on the table scenario), so it's not a novice trick - probably why the only people I know who know enough about the method to criticize my technique are chefs by trade.

For an old Christmas gift by my parent's courtesy, the iPod is a definite keepsake. This thing is surprisingly mint, as it was stored for years on end -- even the screen is clear and you can actually get some speakers going. My only reservation is trying to sync on modern iTunes, given potential issues with compatibility.

Mother's day is this Sunday.  We decided to celebrate it today, so I went out to buy a card and flowers for my mom.  I was really surprise how expensive flowers are.  But, I decided to buy them to show my gratitude to her.

Then again, even spending a million dollar wouldn't pay back the sacrifice she's done to raise me and my 4 siblings.

She reminds us how much she cares about us by telling us stories of the past.  Like, when she would walk a total of 3 miles to the grocery store and back carrying several groceries on her back (using a back pack) with a gallon of milk on each hand.

I would pick up an iPod, but I've only so much pocket space, and I honestly don't listen to enough music on the go to justify having a separate device; the only thing that really interests me as far as iPods in specific go is the fact that nanos still have an FM radio player.
I'm pretty meh as far as Mother's Day/Father's Day go for reasons, so... well, meh.

Though I do wonder; does anyone know how to/if there's a method to have different wallpapers on separate monitors in Windows 10? I used to be able to have different wallpapers, it changed after an update and I have no clue why that is - only that I want to have two different wallpapers again without having to glue stuff together

Well, like all of us, we all have to look for work.

My concern right now is I'm pretty convinced that I've fallen into some administrative hole somewhere - I apply for work, and unless I actually talk with someone (and sometimes even when I do talk with physical people) I've been given the ringaround, where magically my applications disappear into some mystical black hole somewhere.

Granted, this is after I make it through interview stage and they're asking me when I want to start, so I'm starting to wonder if a blacklist for people who simply aren't allowed to work actually exists, and it applies at the last minute. No curtesy to even say 'Well, you weren't unsuccessful' just literal silence. Even when inquiring a week, two weeks, or four weeks after the interview's done.

(If you're wondering, it happens every two weeks, and I apply roughly for about 7-10 jobs a week. There's no pattern with the employers either, apart from my general role which is administration.)

I'm mostly wondering why things are - I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong, or if there IS a company out there that I get referred to, and they're irrevocably saying 'Don't hire' so I can actually find out WHY.

Never seen one of those, but they look pretty easy to use.  You don't have to worry about gas, motor oil, filter, spark plugs, etc with a gas powered lawn mower.

I think some have a grasscatcher in case you want to throw away the cut grass inside a bag or something.

I never see anyone say this, but you keep the bottom in place by pushing in with the middle of your thumb against your third or fourth finger (which kinda pushes out to resist). You get that tension in, and that bottom stick isn't going anywhere. After that, you just gotta exercise the tip of the thumb and the index finger to apply torque to the tip of the bottom stick. Should be like tapping on a desk, though.

Moreover to handiwork, I changed my first tire so huzzah~. The bolts on my co-worker's initial flat were a bitch to pry loose, right to the point I had to force my whole weight onto them, since lifting her minivan like the Incredible Hulk wasn't doing it.

Kind of sucked we didn't have a rotary wrench, either, but the post-work thereafter went pretty smooth. Yay for moar job experience? :3

Oh, I see.  That's cool.  The worse I've done here is triple posting.

But, I think the easiest way to change a flat tire is to use a T-shaped wrench (I forgot what they're actually called).  You have a better mechanical advantage, so you don't have jump on the wrench to get enough force to loosen the bolt.

Conversely? I just love not engaging in politics. :3

On the other hand, I love politics - not because I necessarily have an opinion in them, but because elections get me paid.

More accurately, I'm working the upcoming Australian Federal Election, as a representative of the AEC, the government body that makes sure no one cheats like all hell, and will work as a 2IC (Second in Charge) at a polling booth.

I have a very formal position of neutrality in politics, and it's just my job to make sure that a vote counts. I have no position to who you vote for, but your vote should count, and the process is fair. In fact my position demands that, since I have to make sure I remain impartial to the Australian election process (and we get into real trouble if we influence a person's vote)

Flowing from that position, I'd like to put a thought for you in regards to US politics -

Given that Donald Trump is a (from a benign observation) a very self centered narcissistic (hard to argue otherwise given he names everything after himself) billionaire, and that Hilary Clinton is currently up on several charges (FBI are after her, from my understanding), and has at least one set of fraud allegations leveled against her (The Clinton Foundation stuff) there's a question I'd ask to the US citizens.

If they're the best choices you have and are the ones offered, I'd argue that the fact the country says these guys are the best to offer says that you've got a lot more problems than the simple fact that either of the two are the front runners.

Or more accurately, 'Where are all the sane candidates? Is this really what the US believes are the good options?'

In the double dissolution election here, we don't have anyone that fits either description here (of either kind) across most of the political spectrum, so you can probably see why I'd ask that particular question.

Of course, coming from me (Who's got another blog entry where you'll scratch your head and go 'So whose rulebook does your life work out of?') that might make you laugh a bit.

At first, I was writing something on the phone. Then I suddenly "don't want" to write anymore and opened a fridge to grab and cook some nuggets to eat. Then I watched random Youtube vids. I continued writing stuff. However after few minutes, I somehow "don't want" to write again and I opened up a fridge again, but now I felt I start doing it for no reason and close it back. Lastly, I watched Im@s CG SS Commu and ended up writing this

I don't know why my mind easily drift from one place, to another

*Conspiracy thinking ON*
I feel that I subconsciously want to stop writing and distract myself to prevent myself for doing it
*Conspiracy thinking OFF*

And I have no idea why..... :-\

May has been a pretty bad month, mostly due to car troubles and finding out this week that my head gasket is leaking with repairs costing more than it's worth. Yep, I am buying a new car, meaning car payments, but I will be getting my promotion after my first year soon and I shouldn't have problems, although I need to recoup my savings though.

(checks the mail)

"Ugh...too much mail."  I haven't checked it in a long time.

Starts tossing out junk mail and sees a letter from my parents.

"Oh, what's this?"

Turns out to be a birthday card.

"Whoops, I had a birthday card just sitting in my mailbox for awhile"

Anyways, turns out my parents gave me $20, and it got me thinking.  To someone else it's not much money since my parents are poor.  But, to me, that single bill is worth 20 million dollars for the sacrifices they endured to put me where I am right now.

I'll break down in tears if ever get that.
