Saw and posted this earlier but didn't see the image.
It's still a mystery though. Though what else would Namco Bandai come out with under that label.

Oh, I'm sure it's coming. The question is when.

The last anniversary concert is at the Tokyo Game Show... but there is a movie as well, right? So, about how long do you think the attention from a movie release will last? And what's more, if they used the movie to get popularity up for a potential next game, what would that next game be about?

In any event, here's hoping for a Sony system release.

I'm hoping for more 876 exposure, but it'll probably be Cinderella Girls/Million Live.

Same. Pleeeeeeease don't let it be ML, the girls and art are so blanddddd.

Anyways I wouldn't jump to conclusions yet... Remember when they trademarked all these other titles alongside Dearly Stars?

My personal thought... What if the 3 relates to the 3DS and therefore more 876?

TBH i'm hoping for the CG girls. I love my 765pro but I think it's time some other girls got a chance to shine at the top.

Me too...

But I hope they REALLY expand on their personalities and make them more lifelike. One thing I kinda don't like about the Cinderella Girls is that you can only really see any aspect of their personalities by their hobbies and interests, and some of the girls seem like cartoonish stereotypes compared to 765, 876, and 961. But then again I don't play Cinderella girls so...

I'm actually in the minority that would prefer Million Live over Cinderella Girls, because I like how they already seem to fit into 765 and I like how they're a bit more fleshed out than the Cinderella Girls, and would love to see even more fleshing out. I actually really like Julia!

I'm more concerned about Jupiter's new member.

Ever since they switched agencies, they announced that there's going to be a new member in the group (in manga only) and how about a game that's for Jupiter (or more like producing male idols) ?

My first thoughts were Ryo, lol. Ryo in Jupiter?! That would actually be pretty cool. *laughs* Something along the lines of Jupiter is what Ryo wanted anyway when he applied to be an idol so...

And I imagine Jupiter will get their own game as people threw hissy fits over them being in the main game, but they do have fans of their own so they definitely won't completely abandon them. Like you a said, a spinoff game.

I don't know if a full on male idol game with a large cast like main series iM@S would be doable now (as much as I want one), but I can see some sort of portable spinoff game where you produce Jupiter.

I got suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper excited when I heard about the 3rd Vision thing. Can't wait. Don't care who's in it. Just bring back some old characters as rivals and you can use CG, ML, or a whole new cast. I won't be upset.

I'm expecting it to be CG/ML involved. I personally like the ML girls better because they're less gimmicky.
I personally just want all new idols that are designed to mesh well with one another like 765pro.

I have a feeling CG will have nothing to do with this. Maybe ML....but I really don't think they're going to push CG to a console.
They're going to drop the game months after the 3rd Vision title is released and then everyone will be out their time and money

Cinderella Girls still looks like it has more popularity than Million Live.  It seems that people agree that Million Live's designs are bland and boring (and Shizuka is the only ML idol anyone really likes).

I think it would be a lot better if a new game will be about 765 pro. I don't want to produce idols I know nothing of. In addition, nobody can sing better than Chihaya. She, the Futami twins and Hibiki are my absolute favorites. It doesn't mean I don't like 876 and 961 though, I just can't see 765 as rivals.

I think that as long as the game play is good and they can integrate characters seamlessly while keeping our 765 favorites they can come out with something good.
And if they introduce new characters, they can reel in new fans by hiring popular seiyuu for the new characters. I know a lot of seiyuu fans would go out of their way to play it if it had their favorite girl in it.

If we're gonna expand on the DS idols, I want Reiko to somehow become an idol. You don't know how much I want a Yuu Asakawa idol. And of course Yumeko to become producable. Maybe have Mai come out of retirement.

Shizuka, Anna, Nao, Fuuka (because Azusa clone with 10times as much fanservice) and Maria (I know that's not her name but I can't remember it and her song has Maria in the title anyways) are the only ones that anyone seems to really care about from what I've seen. Yet they keep pushing ML by using the 765 girls to bring people in... Sigh. As opposed to CG, where Ranko seems to have more popularity than the entire ML cast combined.

But anyways. I wanna see more 765, but if they do a new cast I won't be too heartbroken.

I'd rather not have a repeat of the ryuugu incident. People were so pissed when they found out that those characters weren't going to be part of the main cast of Im@s2.

Keep all of the 765 girls that fans expect where they are and promote some CG or ML characters to main roster status. Personally crossing my fingers for Mika and Rika over here myself lol

Honestly, I wouldn't mind ML joining the 765 cast. Yes, some of them are pretty bland but I always thought of it as 765 Pro becoming more successful and hiring more idols.

As for CG, I believe they would have their own spin-off title, and only 23 idols have voices right now, I think. Unless Namco wants to throw in surprised voiced idols as incentives lol.

More 876 and Jupiter is a must. I would love to produce Yumeko, Cineria and Reiko. Mai would probably end up as a rival. :(

I agree with you, Yuu Asakawa is a good seiyuu. I would glad to produce Reiko or someone else she voices.     ;)
And if Kaorin voices an idol with possibility to sing I want, it will be the best game ever!
I think next game MUST have a function to choose who sings what!

I've just started playing Dearly Stars and am really hoping for some more 876 stuff. I would like to see some CG as well, but I agree with the sentiment thus far that keeping the original 765 cast is a must. Depending on the release frame for the game I wouldn't be surprised if we saw some sort of PS3 and PS4 dual release, similar to what Square Enix is doing with FFXV. I'd also like to see the Vita get some love.

They could release it on multiple consoles, but I want Namco to first develop it on the PS4 to take advantage over the powerful capabilities it has to offer.  Then they can down port to other consoles such as the PS3 or others.

I am not entirely sure how the development process works, but Square does not seem to be having any trouble developing the same game for both simultaneously.

Yes, they could develop for both PS4 and PS3.  But ideally, the PS4 version should be better because of its powerful capabilities it has to offer such as better Resolution, graphics, more effects on stages, more characters on the stages, etc.

The standard for current gen games is to build on 360 hardware due to it being easier and more cost effective (this is the main reason Im@s started on 360) and then simply porting it over to PS3. This is why there's literally like no difference between most third party titles despite the fact that the PS3 is technically more powerful.

Next gen both consoles have a focus on easy development and they both have very similar hardware specs so really it's not a question of if they can but is there a big enough market for a game across two consoles. Some will say there's a big market for Im@s on Xbox, but that was only because of its exclusivity on the 360. Once it made the jump to PS3 a lot of people straight out abandoned the 360 games. At the moment the Xbone isn't even releasing in Japan for a long while. If Namco plans to release Im@s 3 within the next year I wouldn't be surprised if its a PS4 exclusive, because right now it's looking like Xbone is gonna have an even smaller presence in Japan than any of its predecessors.

I remember hearing a long time ago that Microsoft offers a nice cash bonus for development of exclusives on 360 in Japan and a lot of developers (especially Namco, because I think I read this about Vesperia) will use it to finish the game as a 360 exclusive, then just port it later.

All games are built on PCs with specs similar to consoles and ported to console specs, typically. That's why devs have been wanting systems with more PC-like architecture.

The PS4 and the XBONE are both have PC-like architectures, specs, etc.
So I think both of them will be equally good platforms for the next iDOLM@STER game. However, the fact that the XBONE is going to be delayed in Japan, will of course delay the release. And if I know Scamco, I think they'll want to get this out in a certain time frame so they can use the movie as publicity for their next game.

With consoles moving even closer to PC hardware wouldn't be awesome if the series received a PC release? The unlikeliest of scenarios I know, but its nice to dream.

It would, and I think it would be well received. Porting is getting easier, but I am not sure Namdai will make the move. I think they will try to make it current gen with a next-gen release, and I'm going to bet it's a Sony exclusive. Even with Microsoft's policy shifts I think XB1 is all but DOA in Japan with their current release schedule.

Frankly I don't care if it's a sony exclusive or not as long as it's on a sony system. I feel like namco could still do a lot on the PS3 hardware so i'm kinda hoping it'll be a PS3 release but I'm shooting for a ps4 anyway so i'm good either way

I'm only an Xbox 360 owner so I can only hope it makes its way on the Xbox 360 if it's not going on the next-gen systems.  It's quite doubtful though, looking at all the deals NBGI has going on with Sony.

Won't care as much if it's PS4 exclusive since they have legitimate reasons to not support the Xbox One at all (but will get me less incentive to get one since Forza 5 is the only thing I want on it)

I think Namco just figured out that most of their fanbase is also on Sony and a lot of their potential fanbase is there without Microsoft. I actually remember them specifically saying that about the Tales series.

I wouldn't expect a PC version, though, even if it was an easy port. PCs aren't really a common thing for people to have and play games on in Japan, as I understand it. The only real gaming scene on PC is the doujin game scene. PC gaming is so vague and unknown in Japan that a lot of people, even those who work in the game industry, think Steam is a PC game piracy platform. Recent successes are starting to correct that, but it's still all western success. I doubt we'll see a shift to PC gaming in Japan any time soon, if ever.

Is this just because of the popularity of tablet and mobile gaming? Or the perception that PCs are for "work" and not for play?

Even if demand were there, I don't foresee it. Namdai just recently started producing a lot of PC ports, with varying results. They won't take a risk with im@s.

A lot of Japanese people have very old computers. If technology still works, they'll keep using it, even if it's outdated. The exception being game consoles it seems, but a lot of people in Japan still run Windows 95, and most don't have cable.
Title: Re: Idolm@ster 3 incoming?!

Yeah, it's recycling old tech, or just an unwillingness to buy something with more power than they need for general use.

Tablets aren't really that big over there either, as far as I know. They're really just now picking up on smartphones. A huge part of the population is still using old flip phones. Of course, their phones were always more featured, so the transition is slower.

Honestly, Japanese people and PCs don't really get along. Even their web design is usually super duper outdated.

I sure hope to see more of 876pro and Jupiter, as well as RK being produceable again (including Ritsuko). I would like for the characters to revolve a bit more around them and less so around how much they want the Producer, 'cause I feel like the game would be able to evolve them a lot more if they didn't just restrict their development to how much they depend on affection from the Producer. If that makes sense.

And... Looks like I'm getting a PS4, then.  :P

Yeah, that's why I'm in the minority that likes the Million Live girls.

They're more developed than the Cinderella Girls and they feel like bonafide 765 idols instead of gotta catch 'em all collectibles (and gimmicky as hell). Maybe it's just that they added so many of them at once that made people dislike the million live girls, but if they were added slowly like Takane and Hibiki maybe they would all get their fans. They seem much more carefully created.

I really like Julia a lot.
Title: Re: Idolm@ster 3 incoming?!

If they didn't feel the need to keep making new Cinderella Girls, it would've been better. And yeah, the producer love is kicked into overdrive for every single one of them, too. I like CG, but not where it's going. Their development and gimmicks seem to be heavily influenced by their fans. At this rate, I think they should stop the Cinderella Masters at a good number, maybe 30 or 40, and focus on them. Yeah, fans will be mad that their favorite idol won't be voiced, but it better than making more than they can handle. That way, they can move out of mobage and give them a proper game.

As for the MLs, I like them, I really do. Even though some still annoy me, design-wise. When ML was first introduced, I was kind of skeptical at them adding MORE idols when there were already so many CGs. Them being already apart of 765Pro didn't make much better. But after a while, I began to think "So 765Pr become more popular and attracted more aspiring idols." After that, they didn't bug me. They seem to have much more thought put into them, as ninjamitsuki said, therefore seem more interesting than most CGs, voiced or not.
Title: Re: Idolm@ster 3 incoming?!
Post by: ninjamitsuki on November 15, 2013, 04:37:45 am
Yes. There are so many CGs and all with little detail or backstory, they're like Pokemon. I love Pokemon. But the appeal of iDOLM@STER is forming a strong bond with the characters, and having so many with only a few lines of dialog, some not voiced, and personalities that can be summed up as "she's smart" or "she likes fashion" makes them feel more like Pogs than people. ._.

Meanwhile all the Million Live girls already have backstories and voices, not to mention Million Live focuses on giving new angles to the existing idols rather than just adding new idols, and I think quite a few of them have a lot of potential to be well-loved idols if they made a console appearance.

Now then, I wonder if the next generation would be able to fit all of the idols. It would be a shame if they picked favorites. ._.
Title: Re: Idolm@ster 3 incoming?!
Post by: RisingStar on November 15, 2013, 06:56:59 am
Well, CG is still basically it's own thing. It has has a, if somewhat flimsy, Namassuka trio and a pseudo-876Pro. All they need is a male group and their set, haha. They could, Namco willing, have two separate iM@S teams, one for the 765 veterans and recruits and one for about 50 CGs. I say 50 just to give CG some sort of cap.

But it terms of favorites, I'm not sure what you mean. If you're talking about CG, they've been too fan-friendly to start making their own decisions now. If the next batch of CMs were chosen seemingly at random, with no signs of the popularity of the idols being a factor, I don't think it would sit too well with a majority of the fanbase.

I want all 765+ML in one game, each with their own route and special interactions with new and existing idols. On the other hand, I want a CG game, as well, but it seems to be asking a bit much right now.

To a certain extent, I would say that it would be odd if the CG idols got any official direction. I get the feeling they were made with the intention of letting fans get in touch with their inner Kotori, which is why their background isn't that well developed. Yeah, there's a character design and a general personality, but most of the rest is up to your imagination. So make your fan works. The CG world is your oyster.

So I would go so far as to say that there's a limit to how far Namco can develop them. Maybe they might decide to, but I don't think it's inaccurate to say that some aspects of their personalities came from fan input.

That's a great point. It's kind of like how it is is with Vocaloid. Everything is up to the fans. I hadn't thought of it like that.

Then, I would not want to see Namco develop them. I'd rather see the Million Live girls get development.

I think Cinderella Girls is too focused on being its own entity to have any part in mainseries iM@S.  The 765 girls were there at the beginning to reel people in, but it was the new characters that got people to stay loyal to it.  Million Live obviously plays a heavier focus on the main girls but I'm not sure if I see them making it into the games either.

CG seems to be fine where it is, seeing as they're starting to celebrate their 3,500,000 registered accounts celebration (how many of those are still active and weren't illegitimate farm accounts is unknown), while I don't think Million Live has even reached 50,000 (46179 at the time of writing, judging by highest valid user ID number as these numbers started from 1 onwards) registered accounts yet.  Not sure what Namco is going to do to boost ML support, but it's obvious that ML isn't anywhere near the pace that CG had when it came out (I wonder if their gaijin deterrent AKA IP locking played a role, though that's easy as hell to bypass and we have a ton of gaijins playing KanColle).

I personally don't want to see ML in mainseries iM@S, I think it's fine staying in that spot where aniM@S related stuff go as long as Namco figures out how to get people to throw money at the damn thing (maybe the character designs weren't unique enough?  I can only name Shizuka and Mirai off the top of my head just because they seem to be the equivalent of CG's Rin and Uzuki).  Same goes with CG, it needs to focus on being its own entity with its own following.  The amount of merch and manga it's able to push is incredible.

One point a friend brought up however, was that the mainseries seiyuu aren't exactly getting younger year after year.  A couple of them have children and age will eventually take a toll on their voices, right?  What's going to happen in the inevitable future when they may have to retire?  We're sure as hell not going to have everyone pull a Yukiho.  Either iM@S will have to come to a bittersweet end, or we may end up having to say hello to some new mainseries characters.

We can only hope that 765 pro stays strong for a few more years, but all good things must come to an end it seems.

I'd rather they kill the series with grace than try introducing a completely brand new cast.

Eh, it happened to Sakura Taisen (twice), so I wouldn't say it has to be bad.

Though at some point, at the very least, there's gotta be a baton pass sometime if they want to keep the series going without it being more of the same. The third iteration is usually a good time to do that.

I dont think that changing the main cast would necessarily mean the death of original girls. I'll probably come to love any new idols they come out with but they sure as hell ain't going to replace makoto in my heart.
