Makes me wonder, will it play like the first game considering that the arcade game used a touch screen, but in the 2nd Vision series instead?

I said it before on the other topic but I'll go ahead and repost here.

It would have been better on android.

Edit: Danny Choo posted about it.

For those of us with jailbroken devices and don't have the ability to run around Japan, would y'all think this would help us out? http://thebigboss.org/location-spoofer

Guys, keep me posted.  When this comes out I'm going to do a live broadcast of me playing the location game since I got the location spoofer to work as intended.

Here's an example of it working as intended. (https://twitter.com/#!/AzuReverie/status/181708069355520001)

Unless you had intended on getting an iPhone beforehand for other purposes, I would rather you get an iPod Touch if having a smartphone isn't priority to you. If you do have the opportunity to get an iPhone however, then by all means, take it. You never realize how useful smartphones are until you have one.

Thank you very much for bringing that up. Before this I had already decided that if I were to get a iOS device it would be a iPod Touch because it is basically a iPhone without the phone part and at a much lower price and without any carrier fees. Still, this game isn't enough to convince me to get one because I still view the device as little more than an expensive toy which has a library of games that are on the same level as the games I've been playing for free using Flash for years and it just so happens that iOS devices don't support Flash so I can't play both its games and Flash games on it.

The crazy thing with Apple and its devices is that you don't know how great they are until you actually buy one.  Didn't expect the iPad to have any practical use in any way and now I'm using it for schoolwork and other things.  iPod Touch is a pretty useful smartphone substitution until you go in a place that doesn't have an available wireless network to piggyback on.

But lets not get into that.

True that... and there is a nice Kanji dictionary you can get free, which can be useful if you are studying Japanese.

Tablets are a very different matter. I can imagine getting a tablet someday to use for listings that I would normally make large printings of. It would save on printer money. My sister should get a tablet because she buys so many books and manga but doesn't have enough space in her house to properly support her hoarding.

True that... and there is a nice Kanji dictionary you can get free, which can be useful if you are studying Japanese.
That isn't a Apple thing. My sister uses apps like that to help her with Chinese but she uses a Android phone.

I just looked through that blog post, many people complained that the spoofer developer is ignoring the users.
Also it only works for faking the GPS location, it won't work if the iM@S Mobile-i uses IP address to verifies the location.
Since it's a jailbreaking device it might be risky to use on a personal phone.

For the app, it seems like the user must login the game while within Japan.  :-\
I will look into it later tonight.

You must log ion to NamcoBandai's web services. Doesn't take to long to create an ID. After that, it'll ask for your location. It'll read in your coordinates and ask if they are correct. You have no choice of setting them yourself (Obviously), so it's either yes or no. It'll kick you out if you're not in Japan.

Simply use the location spoofer to change where you are, and it'll let you in. Simple as that.

Thank you Scotty. I see that in the upper left corner of the screen it says "iPod". That means it does indeed work on a iPod Touch and I did say that if I were to get a iOS device I'd get one of those.

Edit: By the way, what sort of place was that second pic taken at? It reminds me of a hotel I stayed at during a trip to Hawaii.

Does the app really require ios 5?

Yes, iOS 5.0 is the minimum requirement.

Also, that picture was taken at the pool of my condo. It's not a fancy Hawaiian hotel, sadly.

Since we have some people here who don't have jailbroken devices and are unwilling to jailbreak their devices, I think I will start a request form for people to PM me info in order to get your account authenticated.  If you don't live in Japan or don't have a location spoofer due to no jailbroken device, pay attention.

This blog (http://chicpixel.blogspot.com/2011/07/tutorial-how-to-make-japanese-itunes.html) explains how to make a Japanese iTunes account without an iTunes prepaid card or Japanese credit card.

1. Go to this page (http://id.banapassport.net/pc/index.php?t=1) and click the blue signup button on the top right of the page.
2. Go to the bottom of the TOS page and click the button on the left.
3. On the next page, enter your email address and submit (it can be any email address you like, doesn't have to be the ones you use with iTunes).
4. Check your email for the message from the Bana-pass website, click the long URL, and fill out the page accordingly:
5. Click the confirm button on the right

6.. PM the following to me:

a. Email address

b. Password (I would really appreciate if you make a short password for your iM@S Mobile i account since long passwords are a pain to type in on an Apple device)

c. Producer name - 8 CHARACTERS OR LESS (Give me something unique that might not have been taken by someone else, and give me a few alternatives just in case.)

d. Preferred idol (Idols can only be changed on the 5th, 6th, and 7th days of the month, so make sure you're content with your decision.  Also Ritsuko and Ryuuguu Komachi idols are included in this, so choose whoever you want)

Leave the rest to me and I'll PM you with any important information regarding your account when I create it.

Please keep in mind:
You will be exposing your email address to me if you request that I authenticate an account for you.  You can trust me though, I wouldn't do anything horrible.

I forgot to ask, do we need to have the game downloaded and installed on our iDevice first before contacting you?  I haven't been able to do that because that requires a Japanese iTunes account (I'll have to get a Japan iTunes gift card before I can set one up).

Updated my post with info on how to create a Japanese iTunes account without a prepaid card of Japanese credit card.  This blog (http://chicpixel.blogspot.com/2011/07/tutorial-how-to-make-japanese-itunes.html) should provide assistance.

You do not need to have the game installed before you contact me, but I would appreciate if you did successfully download it first so I know I'm not using the effort to make an account that will end up unused.

What's the English translation of what Haruka says when you shake your iPod?  I know she says, "Chotto!" but what's the rest?

It's not "kinda" terrible. It is terrible. I want to be able to freely switch between them especially if I were showing the app to someone else and wanted to show them how the different idols look in it.

I haven't proven it yet, but I think the device only works on A5 devices (iPhone 4 or better, iPod Touch 4th gen or better, and iPad 2 or better).  You're welcome to try and report results back to me though.  That would help me out.

If I don't recall, the iPad 2, the "New" iPad and the 4s are the only devices that use the Apple A5. The 4 and the 4th gen touch still use the A4, which uses the same processor as the 3GS, but a slightly faster clock speed.

Even so, I'll try it out to see if it works during the weekend. Not willing to risk my 4S since there is no tethered jailbreak yet and don't want to mess with apple ids on my daily use device.

So I'd like a little clarification on a few things if someone could answer:

As far as the location thing goes, is it possible to spoof once to start an account and then you never have to worry about it again? Or does it check for a valid location every time you start it up?

There's no charge for any service here is there? Just start it up and do stuff with your idol-of-the-month/forever?

The location check is only done once when you log into your account for the first time and you will be done with it (unless you want to play the location game) after that.

I can help you out with activating your account if you don't wanna mess with a spoofer.

Regarding that, is there a limit to how many times you can change across those three days? And how do you do it? I fumbled through the menu last night but I don't remember seeing it. Probably won't bother with it this month, but figured I'd ask just in case.

My reading may be a bit sketchy at best, but let me see if I can break these down, left to right, row by row.

- Offer - No idea what it does, always greyed out
- Can't read kanji, so no idea, but this looks like you would take jobs or something here, I haven't had much time to mess with it

Well, well. That sounds quite interesting. Does it have anything at all to do with the camera feature? It uses the same icon as the Camera menu option with that 0/3 thing there.

Not sure if that affects people outside Japan or not since we can't really cheat the system.

Also, my Makoto is depressed now. I should probably actually do something instead of just opening the program and poking her.

Were people outside Japan even able to show up on the ranking? I still have yet to figure out what you can and can't do without an actual presence in Japan. I would have thought most of that was blocked.

Basically it has come to their attention that many users using fakelocation to gain fans.
The person who got deleted had over Twenty Million fans and visited 500 locations within a week...

As long as you don't use the fakelocation, your account will be fine.

So I guess if your location doesn't change, they don't care/won't notice.

Well I assume that you can still use fakelocation, as long as the traveling distance and duration make senses.

Four news posts today.

- Planned update in June (bug fixes and new idol events)
- Some kind of error being fixed and they're rewarding 200 points to... everyone? Or maybe only everyone affected. Not sure.
- Google translate wasn't too kind with this one. Something about an increase in offers from 5/28 to 6/4? I guess it only matters if you spoof your location or live in Japan.
- Didn't work well for this one either. I think it basically says that the new events can be obtained without having to download the new version, but you need to hit the title screen and come back if you run this in the background.

Okay so I am totally clueless

What do you do in this? Do you visit as many locations as possible with your idol and get fans? How hard is it to play for someone outside of Japan?

Pretty much impossible if you're not spoofing your location, since you can't do any jobs otherwise.

Otherwise it's just a pretty idol-groping simulator.

Yeah. There was an update to version 1.2. Since I don't understand Japanese (I can read Hiragana and Katakana, so I understand most English Katakana), I have absolutely no idea what changed. Maybe the biggest update was a patch for location faking programs?

Oh wow. My Makoto got so depressed at not doing well (since I can't run jobs) that she literally broke down in tears and left. I mean I could get her back immediately, but that was still really depressing...

I just use it as a clock/"idol-groping simulator" as some might say. I don't live in Japan, so that's all I can do. I didn't even know that idols could leave. Sometimes they seem sad when I open the app, but that might be because I haven't used it in a while.

Yeah, I found that out the hard way.

I find myself wondering if Japan even knows, since they can actually play and are far less likely to have that happen. Eh, they probably do.

If you open the menu and go to the Album, (3rd row,1st column)...theres...
fourteen character icons instead of the usual 13. Maybe Kotori is DLC?

Well, Kotori does appear in your album, but she is not a character that you can produce. I'm not certain, mainly because I can't understand Japanese, but, she will appear in your album depending upon the progress of your idols. I got an album scene with her when my idol reached a certain number of fans(?) I think.

Looks like you're out of whatever applicible iArea the game wants.

It says change where you're transmitting from, so big brother the game will let you in. You might wanna try the location spoofer, but don't spoof a billion locations in a short amount of time, 'cause they check for that.

it's not like the other imas games where you can see your idol perform, but it's still about making your idol famous, and you do that by going to various areas in japan and getting "fans". there are some visual novel-like parts in the app once your idol reaches a number of fans.

A few questions

1.  So is there an ending for the idols?

2.  Are the story scenes or promotions the same as Idolmaster 2 or are they different?

3.  What else can you do in this game other than doing promotions?

To put it bluntly? Nothing. It's just a quick throw-together clock app. to cash in on the iDOLM@STER name. It's not anything close to a replacement for iDOLM@STER 2 or really any flagship iM@S game.
