Title: THE iDOLM@STER base character art
Post by: Raestloz on May 28, 2011, 02:14:17 pm
It's a bit hard to describe it in a sentence, but I need some pictures of the characters, from the front and the left.

Kinda of something like this:

I need them to create a character for my 3D modelling class, and I'd rather create an iM@S character for motivational boost (working with something I don't even know about kinda makes it hard to not fall asleep)

I've seen screenshots from THE iDOLM@STER 2's costume selection screen, where the idols are shown wearing costumes, and are shot from the front, that kind of pose is what I need

I'm not trying to be a jerk, but no working materials is better than sub-standard working materials. I need a high-resolution shot (at least 800 pixels vertically), and at least 2 shots: one from the front and one from the side (either left or right, it doesn't matter), a shot from the back is a bonus, but not necessary

Any character will do, and any source will do, so long as they fit the description

ANyone have something like that?

Contact this user (http://forum.project-imas.com/index.php?action=profile;u=482) since he has the polygon models extracted from the game.  You could ask him to use 3DS to render the models in the directions given by you as sketches.  At least Maya contains that function.

Aside from that - curious - what modeling technique will you be using?  Box Modeling?  NURBS Modeling?  Spline Modeling?  Some other technique?

I don't know about the modelling technique names, I simply make up a very basic base mesh and start sculpting from there

He seems to be offline ever since September last year. I tried sending him a PM, but it might go unread

Oh, well... I knew looking for source materials like this won't be easy

I would also like to note that models already exist, if you need something to reference.

Gimme a sec, will get the link.

EDIT: Sorry, they're all in PMD, the ones I know. Moreover, they're likely already imported from X or something, so it's viewing only unless you can convert them, it looks like. Here they are, though.

Models - http://www6.atwiki.jp/vpvpwiki/pages/144.html
PMD Editor - http://www6.atwiki.jp/vpvpwiki/pages/222.html (DL link is PMDエディタ 0.1.2.3(2011/5/26), in Japanese.)

You wanna try your Japanese (don't know how comfortable you are with the language), you can see some here.

If you need to get this back to X or LWO format for editing, two diagrams are here.
http://www6.atwiki.jp/vpvpwiki/pages/66.html

The first centers around X format, the second LWO. Can't say how it'll be after conversion, though.

The PMD Editor alone can convert to accessory X format... whatever that is. Exporting it to accessory X and re-importing it makes it look like all the textures were taken off the model, so it's possible that if you export to accessory X with the PMD Editor, and import it somewhere else, you might just get the model sans textures. From the window that shows text details (not the model itself), Alt-F, Alt-X, Alt-X should do the exporting... for menus, that's File (F), Export (X), Accessory X Model (X). If you can't read Japanese, just look for the menu options with (F) and (X) after them.

Thanks Cael! That's very helpful!

It doesn't matter, viewing is all I need, as I'd rather try to sculpt one myself than use something somebody made

Well, as long as I can get them to work, but this is a very jump start indeed!

Thanks again!
