More questions.

1. Do the non-leader abilities on the board have an effect on the scoring in a unit?  Or, is it only the leader's abilities that  counts?

For example, my leader is Chihaya, but I have Miki as the duo unit.  So, if I have Miki learn duo abilities, will those effect the duo unit scoring?  Or, does not work that way?  (And, I need Chihaya to learn those duo abilities instead?)

2. What does leveling up a song do?  In platinum stars, it increases your score for your chain combo.  But, there's no chain combo in this game, so I was wondering what does leveling a song do?

@darkthunder and Nakiame

Thank you for answering my questions.  Probably will have a few more later on.

Just started playing this game.  I know a lot people use chat groups to ask questions about the game.  But, sometimes the answers get lost and difficult to find.  So, I'll try to post questions here so that everyone can benefit.

I might ask too many questions.  Please, bear with me.  I don't know much Japanese.  But, I appreciate all the help you can give me.

1. Does it matter which song I pick in terms of scoring?  In platinum stars, high beat songs get you more points through chain combo.  So, is there something like that here, or are all songs pretty much equal.

2.  Sorry, how do I turn off encore again?  Unless someone already did a quick menu translate in the options.

3. In the first unpaid promotion, it seems the perfect is random among the choices.  Like, I pick one choice and get a bad.  But, I pick the same choice and get a perfect?  Why is this so?

Just watched episode 9.  I liked this episode, and the last episode since Jupiter had much importance. (Liked, that flyer too with the 765 idols that the producer was showing to Jupiter.)

(what I’m about to say isn't going to make much sense.  Oh, well).

I just want to say that this episode affected me a lot.  Jupiter helped me take a step closer in getting into im@s way back in 2011 before the anime came out.  I guess I felt I could relate to them more than the producer.  I felt like I was their rival rather than 765.
If I had to describe my feeling this episode, it would be nostalgic (well…I tend overuse this word a lot)

When they left 961 their future was uncertain. That was similar to me when I graduated since I was a student. My future was uncertain too.  I felt helpless.

But, they kept struggling because they wanted to keep their dedication and gratefulness to their fans who supported them even after the disaster with 961.  But, the most important thing I felt they had was patience.  Hoping someday something good will come out of it.

I guess I could sort of relate to that too.  Had several failures and no talent, but kept on struggling. Maybe, my time to shine wasn’t now.  Sometimes, you want things right away.

But now, just like how Jupiter is different from their 2011 self, I’m different from my 2011 self.  They become famous, and looking back I realized how much we changed and improved ourselves.  But, I want to keep going even further. Just want to thank them for being cool guys to hang out with.

And, I really like that song at the end. Just has that feeling of nostalgia.

(Yeah, I know.  Another one of my nonsensical dreams.  Oh, well.)

I took a small nap around noon as I still felt exhausted since I was recovering from what’s probably the flu.  Thank goodness, I had the day off.

Had a very brief dream about Chihaya.

I was laying down on my back with my hands behind my head on a sheet on top of some green grass in a park.  It was quiet.  The weather was warm and the sun was out.  Luckily, there were tree branches to provide shade.  I remember just feeling exhausted.  When I was about to close my eyes, I noticed Chihaya was next to me.  She lay down on her side next to me but her body turned toward me.  It only lasted a few seconds, but that instant moment just felt so peaceful.

Just a very short dream I had.

Chihaya and I were standing in front of each other in the park at night.  Both of her hands held one of my hand.  She was saying something like she was happy that I came to her to talk with her about myself (like sharing my burden with her).  It was a short scene, but I feel peace whenever I dream about her.

Just watched the Jupiter Prologue.

I thought it was pretty good.  We get to see Jupiter’s life after quitting 961 and their struggles with starting from scratch and having to live up to their fans’ expectations despite their lack of resources.

I liked their Alice or Guilty and Brand new Field concerts (though seemed like they used a bit of CGI in the later)

The prologue does sort of bring out their character.  Some people think they’re just “bad guys” since they were rivals in im@s 2 and anime.  But, that’s because of Kuroi's lies and manipulation.  From the prologue, they’re actually nice guys who just want to make their fans happy and keep moving forward despite their dark past with 961.  That’s something I acknowledge them doing.  Not dwelling in the past but pushing forward to reach their goals and dreams with hard work and determination despite the odds going against them.

In addition, their bond of friendship is strong. They stuck with each other even after quitting 961 and often look out after for each other.

Plus, they really care about their fans.  They mention not wanting to join agencies since those agencies’ goals are entirely about money and not the fans.  After quitting 961, they had a distrust with agencies and don’t want to repeat that mistake again.   They want to keep their fans smiling (which is why they held back sharing their 961 past in the interview recording.)

I have to admit, those moments with the 315 president were pretty amusing.

It was nice to see the cameo appearances with 765 via posters, TV screens, and M@sterpiece concert.  And, yes.  I was happy to see Haruka and Touma interacted a little bit.  I wish they could interact more (I sort of like pairing them together, but that’s just me. Wish the script writers would develop more with that.)

But, in conclusion, the prologue had a nostalgic feeling.  Jupiter sort of helped me get into im@s way back in early 2011.  So, have to give my respects to them.

Really glad Jupiter have found a place that accepts them and where they can continue pursuing their dreams.  Will keep following them.  Hope to see more character development from them in Side M.

THE iDOLM@STER Stella Stage / Re: THE iDOLM@STER Stella Stage (PS4)
« on: September 24, 2017, 10:54:44 am »
(Don’t mind me.  Just thinking aloud what’s been presented.  This is all just my personal opinion.)

Based on what’s been shown, I’m sure this game will at least be better than PS.  I mean, they finally removed that awful P drop system (meaning no more drops), which everyone hated.  Also, they brought back casual outfits, which is nice to see (and they’re back in the office).

There’s seems to be a skill system too.  So, it seems they are implementing some OFA stuff into this game.

And, that’s good that they’re letting us use PS DLC we spent money on to be transferred.  That would help some of us save some money (though I can imagine how much extra DLC they will put in to make up for that.)

Based on what people seen in TGS, it seems gameplay will be largely similar to PS.  I guess like people said the game is like PS with some OFA like changes/additions.

I’m pretty surprised how soon this game came out.  Then again, PS didn’t fare well with everyone, and Namco wanted to end it right away.  So, I suppose this game is an apology for that.

Obviously, there were several major things wrong with PS.  But, one of my main complaints were the communications.  I recall way back before PS came out about my concerns for communications in PS. (Turns out my concerns were right.)

Unfortunately, the communications in PS were lacking.  Not only in quantity but also in quality (meaning, in my definition, I didn’t feel that close personal (or intimate depending on the idol) relationship that I experienced with the previous games.) (I can’t speak for all idols since I didn’t play through all the routes, but that’s the general feeling I got with PS.  PS kept touch scenes in communications, which is good but like I said, it just seemed lacking overall compared to previous games.)

Since there will be a rival character and rank up scenes, for sure there will be more communications quantity wise in Stella Stage compared to PS.  But, “quality” wise (in my definition), I can’t say for certain until I play the game.

Personally, I don’t mind the resets.  Every console game does that.  I guess it’s sort of the tradition.  I mean, I like re-experiencing the story and relationship building (with Chihaya only of course).  But, that’s just me.

But, even if there aren’t many communications (quality and/or quantity) maybe they’ll add it as DLC since I'm assuming they’ll be doing catalogs for a while.  (though will cost more money, nonetheless).

But, we’ll see.  Again, everything I’ve said is just my opinion.  At this point, only way to know for certain if I’ll like this game is to actually play the game.  (Though, for sure I'm going like it better than PS at the very least.)

So, I’ll be preordering this game.

Being an 765pro only fan,  I’m grateful they’re still releasing stuff.  I just hope the communications will be as good as the previous games since PS was disappointing.  I feel like that’s one of the foundations that Namco seemed to have forgotten.

Touma's seiyuu gets married.

Congratulations.  Thank you for all your work with Touma.  (Team Jupiter also kind of played a role in getting me to try out im@s way back.  So, much special thanks.)

Best of luck to him and his new wife.  Hope to see more voice acting and singing for Touma.

That was pretty nostalgic seeing Jupiter dance again.

No, you don't need to press the right button with target support Z. Pressing the wrong button with a decent timing results in a normal, which is then turned into a good by target support Z, it doesn't matter if it's a long note or not, or even a memory appeal.

Oh, okay.  That part I didn't know about.  Thanks, for the information.

but a lot of them are basically already included in target support Z. I know one of them makes it, that normals don't end the extreme burst, but since target support z turns normals into goods, the effect is the same (and it even works for bads).

One item does something with double notes if i'm not mistaking.

And iirc another item does something with the long notes, but that is included in target support z as well (see below)

I see.  Thank you for answering my question.  Didn't know target support Z had included additional effects from other items as well.

If you hold the button until the note is over (no need to let go of the button at the right timing, you just need to press it until the note is over), you get the same "rating" (as in bad, normal, good or perfect) as you got at the beginning of the note. So if you got a normal at the start, you won't get a good or perfect at the end, only a normal.

If you let go of the button too soon, you get a worse rating, depending on how much too soon you let go of it. But you will always get at least a bad, you won't get a miss.

I see.  I like the way the game makes it, so you don't have to let go of the button at the right moment.  I just hold it down until the note finishes.

Since you get at least a bad when letting go of the button too soon, and target support z turns a bad into a good, there is no need to hold a long note with target support z. Well, it's not necessary if the combo is all you are concerned about, for a high score you want at many perfects as you can of course, and for that you need to keep the button pressed (and get a perfect at the beginning of the note).

I guess all the benefits from target support Z is dependent on pressing the right button.  So, pressing the wrong button is excluded from this if I understood this correctly.

I do notice that even if I full combo a Master song, if I score mostly good notes, then the score gap from that and getting all perfect notes from a Pro song isn't that much.  So, I try to get as many perfects if I'm forced to use a Master song for a really difficult DL live.

Happy Birthday!

Most of us have moved on to Discord.  We usually don't post on the forum unless some new im@s thing comes out.  There are several im@s servers you can join if you want to chat/socialize.

To be precise the target support z turns all bad and normal into good.

Oh, okay.  That makes sense.  Thank you for the clarification.  (Somehow it “feels” like I get more perfects.  But, I guess maybe with practice you tend to score more perfects regardless).

Don’t mean to sabotage the topic, but just out of curiosity what do the other items do?  I guess they aren’t too useful but just wondering.

And due to the way long notes work,  you don't need to hold these either.

Sorry, but what did you mean by that?  I thought you need to hold down the button for those long notes until it finishes.

DL Lives 1-6 have a guarantee S-rank outfit once you Ex-clear the 4th round.  All other DL lives beyond that, the S-rank outfit are drops.  I recommend checking out the scoring mechanic topic below that Naryoril created to see how to score higher.  I also recommend seeing my few recent posts in the DL live topic as well.

In my opinion, I wouldn’t recommend trying to get DL-Live outfit drops without using P-drops.  I’m not sure if the free-p drops on PSN are still available now.  Which in that case you’ll have to buy them (even then it’s not guarantee you’ll get the outfit).  Alternatively, some people suggest reading the botting topic below if you really want the outfits.

Target support Z helps with getting more perfect notes.  In other words, as long you're pressing the right note you'll either get a good or perfect  You won't get a bad or normal.  Very useful when doing Master songs.
