General chatter / The recent YT shenanigans.
« on: October 25, 2015, 06:20:38 am »
Even though I haven't done requests since forever and a half I do keep my eyes around the forums and etc., as well as YT's endeavors. I recieved this in my email earlier, and I think this might be why -

I'm honestly not sure how to feel about this beyond "irritated"... regardless, people were asking "why" thus.

(Would've answered in the respective thread, but I know Setsuna asked to move the related convo somewhere else)

General chatter / The Pokemon Thread.
« on: November 21, 2014, 10:52:58 am »
Given that Pokemon's an insanely popular series in its own right, I've seen numerous people mention it and we don't have a thread (far as I can tell), I figured I'd make one, especially considering that Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire have just came out today (well, where I live anyway). I'll be picking mine up later since no midnight launch for this run...

But yeah, Pokemon discussion thread.

I've not much to say yet for ORAS, mostly because I don't yet have my game, but I'll be getting Omega Ruby (and I played X prior). I really hope that the new Megastones are all attainable in just one version like Serebii's saying so far though. Split-versions sucked for that.

Wiki discussion / Typos in Nostalgia/Watashi Datte Onnanoko?
« on: September 04, 2014, 09:45:06 pm »
Poking around the wiki, I think I found some typos in the lyrics for Nostalgia and Watashi Datte Onnanoko when comparing what I hear in videos to the subtitles and the transcribed lyrics. My general knowledge of Japanese being fairly limited outside of some Hiragana, I wanted to check here first.

Nostalgia - I'm fairly sure "Seijaku" should replace "Shijima" in the 静寂の中で portion of the lyrics. The characters are correct as far as I can tell, but putting 静寂 in some kanji-to-romaji translators, seijaku is a common result; this could have been caused from alternate character meanings, but one thing is for sure; I can tell that Miki is NOT singing "shijima" in that point.

Watashi Datte Onnanoko - Comparing the wiki's transcribed portion of 欲しいてもを to the actual subtitles for the portion, there is no "te" in that portion of the lyrics, and the "no" is missing. As well, the end character is を - which should be "wo" not "o" (though I admit that it can be hard to hear a difference from this; as I'm learning from self-study, I'm not sure how this would be treated in actual speech). The end result would end up as "hoshiimo no wo", I believe?

To try to help out, I decided I'll take on some requests myself; this thread has some details as to how I work.

Current Request Status
Last updated May 16th, 2015: Semi-active.
College took more out of me than I thought it would. However, I'm finished with this semester, so time to work things out. However, I'll be adding additional rules in light of one request filler's revamps.
A) If you do not comply with rules of other request fillers, I will not fill out your requests.
Simple as that. At this point I'll be working in short periods and what time I do have for iM@S I'd like to spend actually filling out requests. By extension,
B) I will most likely not upload videos on your behalf in regards to Setsuna's request system, so do not ask.
If I do so, it defeats the point of that rule being in place, and I personally agree with that rule. I've no plans to impose such a rule myself, but nor will I go and circumvent it for those who get their requests filled by her.

Request Requirements
Please use the compendium [link here] to help make your request; it is, after all, there for a reason.* If it isn't used, I won't do it.
Be sure to read the Restrictions thread as well, because your request isn't going to be seen by anyone, much less you, if it's striked.

"How do you do your videos?"
Unless otherwise requested, my videos are on auto-cam, subtitles not included, no memory appeals or burst appeals.
I am able to do multiple-costume setups, such as this.

Filling Requests
At this current time, I take general requests only via the General Request thread.*

I do not currently offer Donator Requests.
I will not take most Specialized Requests.

At this point, I will not have a consistent nor set schedule. I will find time to do things when I find time to do things; I'm a college student and I do have hobbies and things outside of iM@S, so do take that into account. If I get the impression you're being pushy about a request without good reason, I will act accordingly.

*"What about non-compendium items?"
- not currently relevant-

Even though I don't have videos up of it on my channel, one of my hobbies is singing. They're somewhere on YouTube. Can't guarantee the singing itself is any good to your ears however. However, my Japanese singing voice... is bad. The proper "l/r" sound isn't exactly happening, among other things... so I became fond of finding translyrics (in this context, "singable translations of lyrics"). There are certain songs that I have wanted to sing since forever and a half, however... that I have NOT been able to find translyrics for. If you can't find them, why not make your own?
This thread is part purely sharing, and partially critique, as, noted in a billion other threads prior, my Japanese is lacking - which means it's entirely possible I've missed some of the points of those songs I've worked some translyrics for. I intend to credit the translations I've used in making lyrics where possible (for ones marked "wiki" if someone can let me know which person contributed/translated the lyrics for them, I would really appreciate this!).
I will not be doing *only* iM@S-related translyrics; these just happen to be what I have now.
If you would like to use these lyrics for yourself, please let me know, and credit if you upload somewhere. Just know they won't be exclusive since I originally made them for me. ;P

Mahou wo Kakete
This set uses the wiki entry and is for game-size version. This is a fairly old set of lyrics, I'm not quite sure when I made these exactly.
(Some lyrics were just outright picked from this video... which credits to this AnimeLyrics page, which looks exactly the same as wiki, so... I'm just not sure what I'd ultimately derive these from.)
One of these lines... feels really awkward to me. I'll use green bold to make this line more distinct.

Oh, once upon a time,
I sighed, in front of my mirror,
"Is your boyfriend a textbook?"
Everyone asked of me but,

Hidden inside my desk
Is a half-written love letter
Waiting to share my feelings with
That future special someone

Is it that everyone thinks I'm such a boring girl?
Really, all I
want is to find that one person who's able to make my heart race!

Oh, the princess who's always dreaming about love,
You'll someday be able to meet your very own personal Prince Charming
Please, let that day come a little bit faster
Because I'm  closing my eyes slowly so that you'll...
Cast your magic on me!

The magical carriage soaring throughout the sky
It's got a special seat inside reserved for me only
Won't you arrive just a little bit faster?
Because I'm praying in bed while I sleep,
Send your magic to me!

Based off the wiki entry, for game-size if not obvious. These were just done today, literally. Lines do not feel NEARLY as awkward, though there's still a tad bit of awkward near end.

I don't wanna ever lose again
I'm gonna fufill the wishes that I truly want
From this moment on, to light up my way!
There is no need to stop
I'll seize the day, and then I'll make it through with no excuse
Killing out all the noise, leaving only my voice, don't ever stop!

I'm forcing this tired body onward
Just running and running, determined to take the lead
While my heart beats e'er faster, a pace is something I just won't keep
"Limit" is not a word within this dictionary

Every time I close my eyes I see
You won't ever stop
Let the race begin, this real story
It's starting up right now from here!

I don't wanna ever lose again
I'm gonna fufill the wishes that I truly want
From this moment on, to light up my way!
There is no need to stop
I'll seize the day, and then I'll make it through with no excuse
Killing out all the noise, leaving only my voice, just like that

The ever-changing detour of my way
I'll just cut straight through it and go for a miracle
With my winning passion!
Once you get up onto the stage, you're sparkling in outer space, where all limits are gone
Take up your set of wings, fight for your dream!

THE iDOLM@STER 2 / Your memories of iM@S2! (Not the game stat)
« on: May 08, 2014, 08:02:05 pm »
As most of us probably know by now, One For All is coming out soon. Not to say this'll be a last hurrah for any one of us - I know I'll still be playing iM@S2 myself even after I get OFA - but with that, I wanted to ask you all what your favorite, least favorite, rage-inducing, etc. moments were for you when playing iM@S2 itself, if you have of course. (Speaking about in-game specifically. I'm sure for many of us actually getting the game itself was a fond memory, so...)

I'm a PS3 player.
I have to say that, for me, my favorite moments were when I managed to pull a Super-Break on fifth song (Me Ga au Toki) in my first Hyper run (talk about beginner's luck there, eh?) and when I managed to hit Lv10 Producer Rank (the gold card).
The most rage-inducing one? Losing a festival by a difference of only three points. (I think it was an Utahime-Utaouji, I don't remember - I just remember "thank god for retries". Doesn't make it any less annoying.)

Slightly less rage-inducing, but still annoying, was the vending machine, not because it was difficult (I knew this to begin with from reading other posts, at least) but because I realized that Cross and Circle gotten mixed up (Hey, the instructions said Circle, Circle wouldn't respond! I did figure out why though at least - somewhat, anyway) so I initially failed at cleaning the coffee spill. (And then realized why I failed the first Visual lesson in the process by extension - learned my lesson from that.)
I don't like Iori so much to repeat that stupid tutorial on every single playthrough, especially since I do not need to...

A lot of us have our favorite idols and our disliked/hated idols. For this topic, I'm just distilling the topic of love/hate into the singing voices.
Why? Well, at day's end, iDOLM@STER is an idol series. Idols make music - and for many of us, I'm sure, we came into the fandom because of the songs of the idols, and it's generally the most accessible part of the franchise. Even for those of us who've been part of the fandom for a while and have grown likes and dislikes for idols, it isn't necessarily based on vocals alone. Some of us may be in love with an idol but not like their voice too much, or vice versa - so I thought there should be a topic on this point specifically, since it IS a vital part of the franchise.

Let's be civil about it, please, as with some topics this would probably be at least a little polarizing... now that that's been said, I'll start with my own input.
I'm a bit more biased towards ballads, techno and more rock-ish songs. A lot of the stuff on COOL&BITTER are songs I enjoy, if this helps one understand.

My top favorite idols, based on singing voice alone, are Takane and Hibiki, because for the most part, these two can sing many song varieties very well with few flaws. Ritsuko and Chihaya are also high here, but they're not nearly as versatile as Takane/Hibiki in my opinion. (Chihaya, especially, has softness issues. She's the last idol I want to hear singing 9:02pm; sorry >< )
I also like Miki and Iori's voices quite a bit. They're a little lower than the above four because I find that the cuteness in their voices tends to hurt them in some songs, Miki moreso than Iori. I, in general, tend to prefer Miki's "emotional" singing voice moreso than her "cute" one.
I have to say that, sadly, the idols I like least for their singing voices are Ami and Mami. More often than not, I find their natural energy a bit much for me. It DOES work to their advantage in some songs (outside their image songs, I mean) but otherwise, I typically prefer other idols when given a choice.

For idols outside the 765 stable, I won't be giving opinions of them because I do not know much about their voices. I do enjoy Eri's and Ryo's voices for what songs they DO have, though.

What about you? What idols' voices do you like the most or least, and why?
EDIT Fixed failing link.

Real Name: Not sharing my real name, but you can call me either Leo or insert-variant-of-username-here.
Sex: Female.
Country of Origin: USA
Age (upon joining): 22
Hobbies: Video gaming in general, listening to music, singing, web browsing, sometimes anime, very rarely drawing.

Q: How did you come across this site?
A: For THIS site in particular, Setsuna's YouTube page (as information about video requests/the 765 Compendium was linked in videos there). I came across iM@S in general from video surfing, though.

Q: Why did you join this site?
A: I noticed I visit this site a lot more nowadays ever since I bought the game, and I'm considering making requests for One For All funding. With those factors, I figured I may as well. (It would be nice to know if there's a way to donate besides, unless it's just the normal Compendium donation link, but eh)

Q: Do you play it?
A: Yes, PS3 version. I don't have Japanese knowledge (outside the Hiragana character for "no", thank you Miki >>), but I still find it enjoyable.

Q: Who is your fave idol?
A: Ritsuko. Iori, Chihaya and Takane are also favorites (both personality and voice), but Riichan #1

Q: Why is your username "<insert username here>"?
A: My username for some other places is "Leorise" and a close friend of mine had made jokes about naming something "Virgofall" as a result. I needed a new YouTube name since I was switching channels for personal reasons, his reply was "Virgofall np". The name stuck since then (helps that I legitimately am a Virgo sign). I didn't actually mind "Leorise" as a name, but a lot of people only saw me being referred to as "Leo" and assumed male; figured I may as well choose something closer to neutral this time.

Q: What are you in to right now?
A: iM@S (gee), driving lessons, Whose Line Is It Anyway (US version from the 90s, I know of the revival but no cable service here by choice), 3DS gaming.

Q: What is your motto?
A: "The world is yours if you will it."

Q: Who's your favorite singer(s) right now?
A: I never keep a favorite musician, since I just like music in general for the most part.

Q: What are you up to right now?
A: Going to bed after posting this, it is LATE over here...

Q: Do you have any expectations from this site?
A: Not really, besides kindness XP

=== Other Stuff ===
I'm eccentric and hard to understand from time to time (yep I'm totally Takane), oft-sarcastic, and I warn that I can have a tendency to rub people the wrong way sometimes. x.x I'm sure I'll get along okay with most of you though. ;P
