Other iM@S discussion / Cool Im@s videos
« on: August 19, 2015, 04:56:51 am »
There should be a thread for sharing cool and/or funny Im@s related vids, as opposed to just any vid... I think?

Meh. I'll start off with TakeuchiP beating down oni.

They had the Idolm@ster Cafe a few years ago, and now they've got another!

Looks like a really good way to spend Christmas Eve! ... if you were in Japan then. -_-;;

Quote from:

The first two paragraphs say that Bandai Namco's putting out voice novels as a smartphone app, and they're starting with Tales of Vesperia sidestories with young Yuri and Flynn. Check out the last paragraph though...

"Also, Bandai Namco is preparing the voice novelization of a piece of their popular Idolm@ster franchise, Mujin Gattai Kisaragi, featured in the Idolm@ster anime."

... So like, did they announce this a week too late?

General chatter / April Fool's
« on: March 31, 2013, 11:37:44 pm »
So, it's like April Fools in Japan right now. Does anyone here actually browse game company websites looking for their April Fool's jokes? I'm curious to know what's out there.

How would you like Misaka Mikoto powering your data center, with all her sisters managing it?

Pikachu and Transformers!

Fill your self with the real world, and you'll explode. Also, you won't get any manga.

Anyone here know Gyrozetter? I didn't either, but eh... Squenix x Subaru.

... Oh yeah, and Nico Nico, of course.

Man, some of these look nice, but could you imagine wiping something off with them? They're also like... $34 or so. Think everyone's here, I'm just sleepy so I'll link two.

Azusa: Kinda like the figure I want.
Makoto: Da bears.

Original post follows.

Okay, so it's like, half a year from April, so I don't think this is a joke.

Blog post is here.

Release in the later part of November, currently in development. Not much that can be said right now, but from what they can say...

The theme for this Im@s is well... they wanted to see if they could make a game allowing for social networking, so you can play against your friends and all that. The amount of casual they were aiming for was very casual, so players can take it at their own pace. They had some prototypes going, and this is what they came up with. As far as gameplay goes, IT'S TIME TO D-D-D-D-D-D-DUUUUUUUUEEEEEELLLLLLL!!!!!!

Okay, maybe a bit too energetic for that one, but we're looking at card battles.

This game takes a different approach to production than Im@s 2. You can choose whoever you want from many different types of idols, and put them into a 5-idol team... so you can have Team Nee-san, or Team High School, or whatever your mind can come up with. Annin-Doofu's doing the character design, and has come up with over 100 idols for you to choose from. The 765 idols we all know and love will make an appearance too. You can do commus and lessons, and fight rival players in Lives (with cards!).

Coming out on... Mobage.

Available in the latter part of June.

Haruka, Miki, and Yayoi are already out:

THE iDOLM@STER 2 / Non-spoiler Producer Talk
« on: March 04, 2011, 09:02:07 am »
Figured there wasn't a thread for this. This is for talking about your recent Producing exploits, without spoilers, in case you wanna vent but can't find the appropriate thread.

My group name is The Squires. (見習い戦士) Leader is Haruka, Members are Yukiho and Makoto.

Released my second song, my song, and when sales stopped, I was just shy of Top 50 (I was 52 by like 1000 CDs, I thought I had another week left). So, I went ahead and padded some weeks with lessons and promotions, figuring that I should probably go for a Break for like a week, let it run out, then release my next song and aim for top 20.

My unit's been going into Humming mode really frequently, so they're very Vocal heavy and not much else. I just got Lv. 2 Appeals, and hit Lv. 10 while waiting doing mostly nothing but lessons and promotions (with the Humming mode boost). I finally got a Break on Week 24 (?) or so (facing Cineria in the process), unexpectedly throwing me to 28. I'm thinking I'm going to see if I can't make top 20 at this rate. I think I can, even if I don't do anything, but we'll see how many Keeps I can put on this.

Currently Week 26 (I think). First release was MEGARE!

General chatter / Buying stuff from Japan and having it work right
« on: January 29, 2011, 08:53:40 pm »
Every so often, we get a question like where can such-and-such be found, or why aren't there any bookstores in my area, and all that. Knowing it'd be useful for myself, and thinking it could be useful for others, I wanted to compile all this information in a single thread so that it doesn't get lost. I apologize if this assumption is false. I realize the information is buried in multiple places across the site, but I feel the need to get a full thread for them.

I understand maybe this is asking a bit, but if this could be stickied for ease of finding, I would appreciate it.

Unless otherwise mentioned, all stores will be assumed to carry Japanese goods, if not both. If you guys have any recommendations, feel free to post them up. However, remember that some people have their sights set on a particular region's version (Japanese/Asian).

Please indicate if a store you mention sells Asian edition merchandise exclusively, and not the Japanese versions. Some stores do not tell you, leaving you to find out when you open the box.

Most these places have an online site. Use the internet and you'll probably be able to find directions to physical locations, or their online shop.

(*) Retailers marked with a star have been personally tried and found reliable by at least one person on this forum (price notwithstanding). Keep in mind, this is word of mouth, and your mileage may vary.

1. Domestic Chapter - For buying stuff from Japan, outside of Japan. Online or brick and mortar.
2. Japan Chapter - For buying stuff from Japan, in Japan, whether online or physically.
3. Electricity Chapter - How to make your console work at home.
4. Notes - For everything else.

Domestic Chapter

Online import retailers (will ship internationally) (*) - Based in Japan, ships internationally. (*) - Most everything gaming related, not really for doujin stuff. (*) (*) - Doujin stuff (especially doujin games, and everything Touhou), a few vintage games (*) - Certain items only (CDs, manga, light novels), and only if stocked in an official Amazon warehouse. Compulsory 2/3-day FedEx international shipping, requires signature. (*) - Mandarake's Online Store. Mostly doujinshi. - Japanese site, manga and general books. (*) (*) - EMS only, Lawson apparently uses it for their promos (like first run bonus goods). (*) (*) (*) - Still must be searched using Japanese.
White Canvas ( (*) - Doujin stuff. Japanese site, will ship internationally. Click for ordering procedures.
Alice Books ( - Doujin books, but not all items can be sent overseas.
Diverse Direct ( - Doujin music.

Physical locations abroad (not in Japan): arranged by location
Arlington Heights, Illinois, USA (Chicago area)
Sanseido Books (*) - In the Mitsuwa Marketplace, will take phone orders.

New York, New York, USA
Book-Off - Around the corner of 6th Ave. and 45th St.
Image Anime - 242 W 30th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenue

American West Coast and Hawaii, USA
Book-Offs in various locations, among others.
Kinokuniya in seven locations on the coast.
Southern California - Most Book-Offs in strip malls have imports, most in indoor malls do not.
Hawaii - The Book-Off in Shirokiya (at Ala Moana Mall) has imports, the one at Pearlridge Mall does not.

Southeast Asia
Many Kinokuniyas (check, though be warned not all of them carry Japanese stuff. In particular, I think the Bangkok Store (6th floor, Isetan) is the only one that does.

Sydney: Kinokuniya

Finished a revised version of the translation of this I did like a month and a half ago. Thinking that maybe someone out there can use this, I decided to pop it up on the internet.

As far as I know, this was the first Im@s manga that wasn't an anthology, making it the first official Im@s manga. Never made it past one tankobon (seven chapters), but it's still a fun read. There's probably a bit I could improve on, but for me (not a writer), I think I did well enough that I'm comfortable just handing this thing out. Or at least I hope. I also hope the references I threw in aren't too awkward. See if you can spot them!

If you got the tankobon, but can't read it, well I hope the problem's solved. If you don't, here's what you need to find it.

THE iDOLM@STER (アイドルマスター)
Hinata Yaya (稍 日向)
Original Creator: Bandai Namco Games (バンダイナムコゲームス)
Serialized in Comp Ace (コンプエース), Volumes 003 to 009 (三号~九号)
Published by Kadokawa Shoten (角川書店) under the label Kadokawa Comics A (角川コミックス・エース)

You can find it at (will ship this internationally), or you could try your luck at cons. Keep an eye out if you liked the script! Translated manga in the States cost what, 10 bucks? Add another 10 at most and you can probably nab this straight from Japan.

If you're lucky enough to be in Japan, for whatever reason, I think book stores categorize their manga by publisher, then label (alphabetized by title last), so look for the Kadokawa section.

General chatter / Imageboards and stuff
« on: October 13, 2010, 09:17:30 am »
So, it occurred to me that there might be more places to find Im@s images than I know about. Hmm...

General chatter / Saimoe Tournament 2010
« on: August 03, 2010, 08:59:36 pm »
The 2010 Saimoe Contest has started! I wouldn't have known unless moetron linked it. ^^

How to vote and stuff. It may or may not be useful, but if you need it, Japan time is GMT +8, if I remember correctly. Might be useful to figure out whether you're too early or late for your bracket.
Here's the bracket, and I'm assuming they don't mind if this is direct linked. Bottom left corner, 3 September match = a veritable flood of votes.
