Hilarious picture by the wonderful TTB:

So all of you know I'm super obsessed with Haruka...and now I've decided to become her! ^^
I've started creating a cosplay of her for PHXCC 2012 which is coming up this May.
I'll be documenting my progress here.
Milestone 1: Skirt finished!
Micro Milestone 2: Some accessories finished!
<Ribbons not shown>

Milestone 3/4: Vest and bra finished!
Milestone 5: Boots and socks!

You've decided to become Haruka? Sounds like a Perfect Blue moment. o_O
Well, good luck!
-
Good luck with the project!

Precisely. ^^ All I need now is an umbrella.
Good luck with the project!
Thank you both!
-
Huh, nice! If I was a chick, I'd totally cosplay Haruka. Lucky you. >XD
Super awesome good luck to you.

Thanks! As soon as I finish all my homework (probably impossible) I may work on the accessories. I don't really like sewing during the week though. ^^;;
-
Looks good so far! I'm a sucker for hearin' about the intricacies of cosplay... so please do share your choices at each junction. Keep up the good work and lots of luck on the project.
-
Thank you!
I'm a perfectionist so this should be interesting. Especially since it's Harurun so I have to make it extra special.
I've been debating about how to do Haruka's feather/wing/leaf emblem (I assume it's a wing for 765 angels) that she wears on her chest.
I was thinking about finding a super high quality screen shot of an up close version of the emblem and then create a vector of it from that image. Then reorient the vector so that it is flat and resize it until it is suitable for use as a pattern. Then just sewing 2 black pieces of fabric together (like a plushie with no stuffing) to create a fake emblishment.
-
I've decided to become her! ^^
Good luck.
Just so long as you stop before you get to the point of having plastic surgery on your face to make it look more video game-y, or wearing a wig made out of varnished wood to fit in with the graphics.

Lol. I could always get one of these (http://www.flickr.com/photos/splint_ii/3755589502/sizes/m/in/photostream/)
But I think that may be going a bit overboard. ^^;; I'm not out to scare anyone.

Heh, must be awesome having the ability to make your own cosplay! No problem and again, good luck to you. :D

omg how do those masks have buyers, what.

That reminds me of ほめ春香(Home Haruka)
I'll definitely give you a GJ if you can get that mask xD
Okay...back to the dress...
I'm looking forward to see the finish set. And good luck with your project!
-
omg how do those masks have buyers, what.
They have buyers to troll people like you. And me. And probably 90% of the rest of the world. ^^
But a home Haruka mask I don't think would qualify as trolling.
-
They have buyers to troll people like you. And me. And probably 90% of the rest of the world. ^^
It works! Very efficiently, I might add.
-
For the love of... Amami... kigurumi masks scare the yar out of me. It's like coulrophobia... only kigurumi masks instead of clowns.
As for Harurun's emblem, would this shot be of some help? (http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b390/FunktasticMatt/sm15499945.png) The filename is the Nico video it was obtained from, so you may otherwise be able to find an angle that suits your needs. Your creation plan sounds good, much luck with the execution.
-
That is perfect!! <3
Much thanks, Funkies. Gonna work on that vector as soon as I get home as I don't have appropriate software on my laptop.
-
Ooh, a Haruka cosplay :3 Best of luck! <3
I love the pleating on the skirt ^^ GJ!
-

I love the pleating on the skirt ^^ GJ!
Thanks so much! I've made a lot of these box pleated skirts in the past because I'm a huge Evangelion, Haruhi, and Clannad fan so I got lucky it's such a familiar pattern.
Update:
Played around with the vector a bit.

Ready to print after scaling.
Managed to find the right scale for the emblem. I'm the same height as Haruka. ^^

That sounds like a good bit of luck there. Anyway, can't wait for when you're done. I like when people make their own costumes.
-
So much fancy digitizing, I dig the attention to detail with the scale of it all. I'm interested to see how it'll piece together from here on out.
Broken record: good luck!
-
Good luck with the final product! Cosplays are always interesting to see, especially when the person puts a good amount of work into it. :D
-
OMG OMG you're gonna cosplay as haruka :P xD good luck with it then being a perfectionist can be frustrating but it all works out in the end. Do make you're best to make us go nosebleed :P ::)
-
Thank you all! Your comments are really making me inspired to work on it some more this weekend.

Thanks. This scaling method is one I picked up a looooong time ago before I was even in to cosplay.
Do make you're best to make us go nosebleed :P ::)
For you, I'll do my best. ;)
In other news, I'm searching for a Producer-san cosplayer, but the con doesn't have their forum up yet and my friend flaked. ;~;
-
Hmm, what would it take to cosplay as Producer-san? I'm thinking just standard business-wear and a yellow P. Might do that for AX 2012.
Since we're talking about cosplay, this came up in Sakura-con. I love it sometimes when people don't give a damn.

Well even though I'm not a huge anim@s fan either business with the P or the anime Producer himself.
That is quite inspiring <3 I love that manyoi.

Suit. Tie. Glasses. Black hair. Done.
The XBox limited's producer card or a P-Face would actually be the added plus that marks you as a producer, rather than extra number 8102.

Well, got those, the card may be a bit difficult to find, but I could either make a P-Mask or just draw a P on my forehead (Funny if I got it backwards)
-
I would do it (I definitely resemble him), but I can't really travel around all that much; I blame my unemployment and university tuition. If you need other reference shots, I'm more than willing to help. Good luck!
-
You could always craft a card yourself. ;) Base it on the xbox 360 limited edition one.
If you need other reference shots, I'm more than willing to help. Good luck!
Thank you!! I just bought Scarlet Sprite in my game so it helps to look at it.
Latest Update:
Started with left (cheap wood thing from craft store), ended with right by using a sticker of my vector and a utility knife. Still has to be primed and painted with a black glossy coat.
Just glued the chains onto the ribbons. Just need little hearts to finish it.
-
Wing Emblem is finished now. See previous posts for process.
Ribbons are almost done minus the hearts. No pictures yet sorry.
-
Emblem looks mighty fine I must say. Your progress is quite impressive so far, it'll be interesting to see the final outcome of all this dedication!
May the rest go as smoothly as what's come thus far.
-
I finished the vest..but...Gah...I'm really unhappy with it. I don't know what to do.
-
I imagine the vest would be the more difficult part of the entire ensemble. The orientation of it seems fussy to nail down with how the sides never come together. Perhaps after you finish the brassiere portion, you could come back and give it some adjustment?
You have plenty o' time, don't let it get ya down!
-
Thanks! The main problem with the vest is the way that it is fitting. Plus my lining fabric choice is really hard to iron so in general it is not coming together well.
-
I ordered my wig yesterday and also the "Rough Time School" costume.
Now I'll have that to wear another day along with Scarlet Sprite.
-
I always liked the idea of a persistent cosplayer that used more than one outfit for a convention. If it's a character that has that option, groovy to pull it off over the convention time. Variety is good after all.
Keep it up, and I hope it starts to come together in way that you're pleased with.
-
Your cosplay will not be complete until you locate a small child to drag along.
-
I got a better vest pattern yesterday. This one is waaaay better and exactly what I need.

Yep. Thanks. Rough Time School also seems to be an iconic favorite for im@s.
I'm doubting that's a proper translation because I saw a bunch of people call it 'Laugh Time School' which sorta makes more sense.
Your cosplay will not be complete until you locate a small child to drag along.
Lol. I need a mini Haruka! :D I'm pretty bad with children at cons...last year I said this kid was cute and his friend was sad because I didn't call him cute. D:
-
A Thread I've been looking through for a while without commenting:
Good job so far and good luck~
and seeing that all the sparkly luxury outfits are difficult to make exactly because of the fabric, but Haruka has one of the nicest outfits of that series I am looking forward to the time when the pictures come ^^
-
Thanks so much, tsukihime. Scarlet sprite is indeed a pretty difficult color combo but I love it!
I got a vest pattern so I'll probably/most-likely/provided that I don't slack off make it this weekend.
-
HUGE UPDATE!
Vest and top are now finished.
Top was from Charlotte Russe for $10, then I cut it down and made it shorter.
Temporary boots were from Goodwill for $15.
Don't know how many times I made this vest before it being perfect. ^w^ Really proud of it now.

Cael K., so I hear you want Haruka with long hair. . . ;)
-
ohhhh that's a sick cosplay!! keep up the good work!! :D
-
Looks awesome ^_____^
Now only small stuff is left right? (that kind stuff I hate doing about cosplay XD)
I myself recently finished my Miki, but that new blue DLC costume is fairly easy compared to luxury. How are you going to go about the belt?
-

Thanks everyone! I'm glad to be in the final stretch!
-
so much hair. @_@ Anime/game characters tend to have tons of hair, so it is unusual for someone to have more hair than their character.
edit: I didn't mean that in a negative way. I have no clue how people manage to stuff their hair under a wig like that.
-

^^ Thanks ~ ? <3 I'm wearing a wig for the actual thing.

Post pics!! <3
Oh I just ordered one off Amazon! :D So hard to find that color!
-
Yes, I have always wanted to see Haruka with long hair. Now I have. Good job! Just watch out for stairs, kids, and straight, flat ground without any bumps in it whatsoever when you take that to a con.
... Though recently, I've realized that Uzuki Shimamura reminds me of Haruka (no surprise), though Uzuki has long hair. (Yeah I know, half a year right in front of me all this time, and I just noticed a few weeks ago.) No wonder she's somewhere in my CG top idols list.
I have no clue how people manage to stuff their hair under a wig like that.
You stick your hair in a big head sock, then put the wig on over it.
-

^^;; I'm already clumsy so this is a problem.
I had to photoshop the hideous bruise on my arm in those shots.
-
Oh wow, that looks great!
-
Love what you've done with the cosplay so far. You really do make a good Haruka. Keep up the good work.
-
(http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd220/coolaldred/emoticon/nosebleed.gif) :o :o okay serisously though Nice job on the costume, so far Im loving it ;) even your hair matches haruka's to some extent, the texture of the clothing really stands out :P now all yah need to do is ramp up the voice LOL
-
Work on my vocals eh?
*ahem*
そこに跪いて!
Haruka enough for you?
Anyway, thanks everyone for your support as I work closer to the finish. ^^ <3 Your feedback means a lot to me.
I might break my rule and sew on a weekday since I can't work out tonight. Does anyone actually wanna see my boot cover process? If so (sew!) I'll take pictures and upload my prototypes here.
-
Whoa, I haven't been able to check in for a few days... and that is some awesome progress since then! The vest turned out quite nice, it sparkles like the real... um... fictional... deal! The boots are groovy, the entire ensemble comes together really well. You say you're in the home stretch, yet it's already perfect so far. You're a nice match for Haruka as it is, be it the long hair or wig.
Good luck on the finishings, extremely impressive work so far.
-
Thank you for the support, Funkies!
The image you donated early on really helped me get this far. *o*
My wig and other costume arrived today, so perhaps I'll add a picture here for you guys. ;)
I'm in the process of obtaining some white boots that will actually match the costume. So hopefully (cross your fingers) I win the auction.
-

Loving the wig!
-
wow, it looks great!! Love it. :D *thumbs up*
-
Oh wow...Angel Beats Dakimakura 8)
Nice dress you got there!
-
I love Angel Beats! <3 I got the lifesize Kanade wall scroll too.
-
It's like I am really looking at Haruka :o
(Specially if you trip as much as she does XD )
-

^^;; I do.
-
Oh, haha, well, be careful then. XD
-
Wow, second round of pictures. Still looks great.
>That Pokemon poster
>That Angel Beats dakimakura
Also, tripping hurts. Especially when you trip forward.
-
That Pokemon scroll is my favorite purchase of all time.
The cool thing about it, is that it's all original pokemon with their names written in Katakana but subbed in Hiragana for children still learning! I love that thing to bits!
Yuri daki is great and I also have the life size Kanade wall scroll at the end of my bed. *o*
-
Oh wow, just noticed the pokemon poster. That is really cool.
And, looking at it again, you really do look like Haruka haha(except with longer hair, which is cool~)
I also noticed the Lucky Star and P&S posters, good stuff.
-
It looks good... Good job.
-
Thanks everyone!!
-
I like the Rough Time School ensemble, and you really are quite the spittin' image of a long-haired Haruka. Will you be sportin' contact lenses as part of the set when you make the convention journey? All in all, it's quite awesome work you've put in so far. Good luck on the auction, and you've come in with quite some time to spare on all of this!
Of all things I'll admire about your room... first it's the vertical walls. Since moving here a few years ago, all the personal rooms upstairs have sloped walls from the way the roof's shaped. Secondly, I'll say those framed PSG posters are nifty, I dig it.
I'll just extend the preemptive congratulations here, since everything appears groovy as is.
-
Contact lenses = no~
Photoshop = yes~
I can barely put eye makeup on let alone put contact lenses in. I imagine Haruka actually putting contacts in...
"I dropped it @~@"
Thanks! Most of the walls in my house are vertical. Except for the vaulted ceilings.

Oh man, I remember dropping contacts when I had them.
-
ah yes the story with the lenses, but for me it usually depends on the quality. If you have really good ones no matter how sensitive your eyes are, it will work out, and believe me I do have sensitive eyes.
It usually takes practice, and since that a lot of time to get ready for the convention. Like first lenses, then you wait until your eyes stop watering, THEN you do make up.
But photoshop works just as well in the end XD
-
Photoshop is easy and cheap if you already have it. I am scared of touching my eyes.
-
Amazing quality! You put a lot of hard work into it, and it has paid off; you look great! Who took the photos? I forget if you said you had prior cosplay experience, because you look like you've been doing it for a while. Your poses are all very photogenic, too, I think. ^^
(Need to get you a Chihaya plush to hug...)
-
Oh my! I need to get a Chihaya plushie indeed because I am all for ChihayaxHaruka.
Thank you! My mom took the photos haha, I'm known for being photogenic I guess, everyone always tells me that. ^^;;
I've really only been sewing for a year. I started sewing to make doll clothes and now I'm making people clothes too. :O This is my first actual costume that I've made without a premade pattern. So thank you!! ^^
-
Best option is probably a plush version of "board Chihaya" - the one that subbed for the real Chihaya on Namasuka Sunday. Fewer parts, and such.
-

If I had to pick an emoticon from what the board offers: :o
Whoa, that puts the entirety of this in a new perspective. One of even more awesomeness than previously. Add a prefix to it, either "mega" or "uber" or anything else fantastic will do just nicely.
As for the lenses deal? I don't blame you, contacts are fiddly and uncomfortable. I hope you get the urge to cosplay more of Haruka in the future, as you've definitely got some skill with a needle and thread.

Hahaha! I think I'll just get a cardboard cutout of her!
Actually speaking of Chihaya, this guy in my state crossdressed as her!! If I can meetup with him we can probably do a shoot together.
Haruka: "Yuri ja nai~"

I think my next Haruka costume is one very dear to my heart (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmRcwCtPCqE&feature=related)...
That or the image in JNiles avatar.

Okay a little update before I go to bed.
Separating it into another post for clarity.
I'd like to say that I'm 70% done now with only the boots and socks remaining!
Pinning the cuffs. Bought these blingy buttons because they seem more idol-ish.
Meanwhile, while the cuffs dry from their ironing, making the skirt chain.
And after that lining the top with the black part like Haruka's.
Finished cuffs
(http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7098/7101045135_dae79fe979_z.jpg)
Adding decorations to belt and modeling cuffs and chain
(http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7225/7101045291_f1e191e3e0_z.jpg)
Wearing the choker. Ribbons were blurry but they're done.
The costume as it's been hanging on the door. I look at it every single day. ^^
(http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7087/6954975058_c121862232_z.jpg)
Once again I'd like to thank all of you for all your support on this project!
Your kind words are really inspiring. ^^
-
30% more to go, great work.
...Reminds me to get a face shield.
-
^^;; face shield?
-
^^;; face shield?
This:
I was thinking of cosplaying as Producer at the next Anime Expo, but I can't do the Anim@s look (hair's WAY TOO SHORT, and I don't think I can grow it in time), so time to start plan B: Get one of those and tape a yellow "P" on it. Can't really make a huge "P" to wear, and a paper mask is too fragile. Plus I can either take it off or just push it up, depending on which type I get.
-
OH!! Hahaha! Pics or it didn't happen! ;)

I'd tell you to make sure you can see through the P, but then the face shield will (presumably) protect you from the worst that can happen. ^^

It'll probably be a while, but I'll take some pics when I get it done.
I'd tell you to make sure you can see through the P, but then the face shield will (presumably) protect you from the worst that can happen. ^^
Well, I'm going to find an adjustable one so that I can just simply push up the shield and I can see. I don't mind taking it off and on, though. And there's always scouting out with your feet first before moving.
-
This is very amazing work!
You're so talented at sewing!
-
Thank you so much! All I have left is the boots now. ^^
-
For you guys, I am willing to dance one song in my cosplay. Please vote in the poll. One vote per person. ^^
-
Voted! :D It's fun to see your cosplay evolve haha.
-
If you don't vote for Megare, you'd might as well admit you have no taste.
-
Voted! :D It's fun to see your cosplay evolve haha.
Thanks so much. ^^ No sense in cos if you're not willing to play right?
If you don't vote for Megare, you'd might as well admit you have no taste.
ROFL. I hope Megare wins I already know Little Match Girl and Megare looks easy
-
Voting for MEGARE! here.
-
I have taste, so I know spunk, so I voted for SMOKY THRILL. :P
*shrug* I dunno. I think it's the most appealing out of the choices up there.
-
Was tempted to vote for Smoky Thrill as well, then saw Hamburger up there and voted for it. It has a lot of off-balance moves- does that make me a jerk?
Megare is boring.
-
I'm all for MEGARE!... it is a nifty thing.
I never commented on the accessories, yar. They're lookin' good, and the blingy... er(?)... the better I'd say. Rock on, lookin' forward to songness!
-
Ughhh...! I like all those songs and dances, it'll be hard to choose. ; -;
I'll have to vote for the hardest :3c
-
Thanks for the votes guys! Your choices interest me. ^^;; I just hope I don't fall!!
-
Thanks for the votes guys! Your choices interest me. ^^;; I just hope I don't fall!!
Don't worry! Just think that nobody's watching.
-
If you do fall, keep it in there. It'll stay in character and you can even edit the video and add a "accident" over it XD
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LYt-FKaVwso Accident Master.
-
Wow, that's tough to choose from. Shame, because I love Honey Heartbeat's choreography as a trio or quintet, but I find it rather boring as a solo. I'm leaning towards Little Match Girl or Kyun! Vampire Girl personally, I'll have to think about it some more before I cast my vote.
p.s. if two of the songs tie for first, you should totally do both. :)
-
Wow the poll is getting spicy. Thanks for the input guys.

Does someone know the font and can get it for me? I will add in the accident thing if I can.
-
Oh haha, if you add it, that would be so awesome. X3
Not sure what font it is though, I'll try and see if I can look it up or see if somebody else knows.
-
Does someone know the font and can get it for me? I will add in the accident thing if I can.
I'm no expert in fonts and all that stuff, but I do recall that NBGI uses a separate company for fonts related to in-game use for iM@S. Bitstream Inc. (http://www.bitstream.com/) is their name (though they've been acquired recently). I know they sell fonts (http://www.myfonts.com/foundry/Bitstream/) out there for general use, but I don't know where to find the iM@S font personally. This post (http://detail.chiebukuro.yahoo.co.jp/qa/question_detail/q1442064834) points to Handel Gothic for the logo... not sure if that goes for in-game use as well.
It's a start I suppose. I'd look into lifting the image from video and cleanin' it up if the font isn't up to par or is hard to obtain in the first place.
-
Just obtained boots. Now just need to cover them!
And I found this video to help me learn Megare:
http://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm16894132
-
Megare?? What is wrong with this world? I feel like I'm in that Twilight Zone episode where everyone else has a pig mask (or troll mask).

Boots completed! You know what that means?
My project is nearly complete...just gotta put everything together!
Process:
Bought some white high heeled boots.
Made a mock up pattern for a cover using some scraps I had:
One of the completed boot covers...looks like a Christmas Stocking!

And finally the boot covers on the boots with the socks:

You look like a psycho. the most beautiful girl ever.
Thanks Scotty, you're very kind. ^^
-
I know. I'm the best.

Great job! You look great! Congratulations on finishing the costume~ :]
-
oooooooo that's so cute!! looks good!! I like it :D Congrats on finishing your haruka cosplay. Well done.
-
I like it, I like it!
Great work, animagic.
Also, that last shot: how lewd. (Joking there, of course.)
-
Magnificent, looks absolutely magnificent. Grats for the completion, and the pictures are quite amusing. The boots turned out really neat, I like how you went about the implementation. Clever stuff all around!

Wow, fantastic job! *-* You're a great Haruka cosplayer.

Wow, fantastic job! *-* You're a great Haruka cosplayer.
^^ Thanks so much. *o* I love Haruka so much so it's a dream come true!
-
Now, all that's left is the video and showing it at PHXCC 2012. I'm sure you'll get a lot of praise for it.
-
Scotty must have Dark Haruka vision. He sees where this is going. He knows what the dance video will really be like.
One thing about sewing I've discovered is that I have no patience for it. So I stick to simple cosplay stuff, and it's few and far between. So, when someone gathers up some material and makes it from scratch from start to finish, it's always impressive. Did you say this was your first time without a pattern? Wow.
'Grats!

Thanks. I've been working on MEGARE. It's pretty fun. Difficult at first, but I think I got it good!
Poll will close at the end of the week so I can start working on the song.

It looks absolutely fantastic!

... paint everything that was red black? Then work on staring at people in a very creepy threatening manner?
idk XD
But congrats once again!
-
Thank you very much nublet! ^^
I actually have a little thing I wrote afterward which I still haven't uploaded yet. Working on getting it up shortly.
-
Did practice record of MEGARE! today. First time practicing in *these* boots. I know I'm able to, but I do need a little more practice.
I do have the dance down. ^^

Tl;dr: I've learned a lot over this project and thanks again for all your support!

A good read. :3
Now just waiting on that (accident filled) video. :o
-
Thanks. I've got a couple surprises up my sleeve for the video, if I'm able to do them. ^^
And before anyone says it, I know Haruka is not wearing sleeves!
Closed poll. (sort of)

Nice, nice, although your dA title makes it sound like something from the coroner's office.
Can't wait for MEGARE!
-
It's been ages since I've been in a Party City. I had no idea they sold boots in the first place. Your attention to detail has been amusing, even down to the number of pleats Haruka's skirt has. Your boot covers are absolutely groovy (or perhaps even... kickin'?), I dig it. I'm sure it'll be a hit at the convention, and do make sure to have fun in the process of it all.
Good luck on the MEGARE performance!
-
I'm looking forward for your Megare performance :)
-
Thanks everyone! I'm looking forward to it too! It's hard to dance in those boots!!

Thanks!! So many pieces oo;; so much work!
-
Omg so you're movin onto the dancing I believe xD?? Just make sure you're practicing on a mat just incase you want it to be authentic xD rofl. Other than that I'm really looking forward to the vid, by the way would you be singing?? :p
-
Yes everyday I've been doing my dance lessons. ^^;; Except today because I'm sick.
^^ Thanks!!
But I don't think I'll be singing...vocal is not my strong stat, I think visual maybe!!

Doesn't your outfit increase your dance stats?
I would think dance is your strongest stat then, since you're gearing up for it. Better get those visual accessories.
-
^^Oh I guess it does, doesn't it?
Well that's good that I've overloaded my dance stat...I don't want to make any mistakes!!

You mean 'accidents', right? :3c

うれしなの!
I just did a test recording of MEGARE in the boots and I've finally got a knack of the weight. ^^
Also realized I am still able to do Little Match Girl
Couple surprises ... so you're doing the #1 and #2 poll winners?
... wait, ... having the #2 in the poll is just one surprise ...
Either a blooper reel or runoff vote between The World is All One!! and Kyun! Vampire Girl?
;D
Either way, can't wait for the video of your dancing prowess to come to light!
-
LOL! Yes I am doing MEGARE and most likely Little Match Girl as well. ^^
And maybe some surprises for you. ^^ <3
But I'm not saying anything just yet...
Look forward to it!
-
Oh yeah btw, new photo:

Here you go guys. Just a little something funny. :D
-
I know I already told you this on twitter earlier but I like that voltage max pic you did there. Nice job. XD
-
Thanks blake!! <3
If I can bribe my old media teacher...maybe I could animate the burst on a green screen...
well I can dream!!
-
Do it, green screen it all the way.
Just... save the accidents for non-burstifying moments.

It looks amazing!100% AMAMI HARUKA

Cute pic! :3

Ahaha thank you everyone!!

Very nice job here, animagic! You'll go distances, I'm sure. :3

Camera work was super pro! Great performance, spot on I say. Outfit is definitely well made, it seems to move really well.
Rock on, knock 'em dead at the convention!

Wow your lip-syncing is really good, you must know Japanese, like literally I can lip-read the Japanese from your mouth instead of listening to it. Also your dance moves are right on target! 0.0
And you put emphasis right where it belongs in each dance move in each sequence... waaaaiit a minute.... is that you singing? Or is it Haruka? I haven't seen many videos of Haruka so I can't be sure, but with how much effort you put into the dancing and the costume I wouldn't bet against it!
omg... the camera keeps switching angles like the videos... hmm... does your family know you act as a spiritual medium channeling digital goddesses in the living room from time to time?
I have to say, if I had a nickel for every fandub or fan dance I've ever seen that I really liked, I'd have one nickel. And I just got it too. Great work!!! :D
When I see others putting in tremendous effort it inspires me too, so here's a corny shot of the idols cheering for you, I hope it's not too mortifying 8)

I have Little Match Girl recorded + a little surprise for everyone. I'm doing post production on it tomorrow.

Thanks thanks! Well I do know a little Japanese, but trust me...after hearing this song for the millionth time, you get it after a while.

ROFLMAO! Shot 4 times. Some of the runs were not matching up perfectly with each other so editing some parts was difficult. ^^;;

I like the camera work btw. Overall, it was a pretty good. It's a good way to end my day by watching this. Keep it up.

... Okay, I'll stop before people hit me like they wanted to hit Thomas Howard every time they played DDR. That's still a GJ though, nice dedication, great stuff.
I don't imagine a live crowd could be scarier than the internet, so yeah, go rock their socks off. Just get ready for those bright, bright lights. Most people are told to look at a point straight ahead behind the crowd and not at them, but dang... those lights are sometimes right there. Makes it hard to see anything you're doing, though I guess the flip side is it makes it hard to see the crowd too. So you don't have to worry about them. ^^
How long 'til the con? Bit of a shame they'll have to wait that long. ^^
-
Well this just brought a smile to my morning. Loved the part where you winked at the camera "and sexy"! ;)
Good job all around, you looked like you had fun making it. Can't wait to see what other surprises you send our way.

Hahaha! I used to sing in High School so I know about those bright bright lights. Although, I'm not thinking of entering anything. I'll most likely just be tearing up the DDR dance floor and if someone actually recognizes my costume I will gladly dance for them. ^^ Thanks again!!
The con is in 9 days, but I have another costume to somehow whip out by then as well. ^^;

It was really amazing animagic. I liked the opening you put in there and thought you did a really great job on Little Match Girl. Thanks for posting. XD

Thank you blake307!! <3
I knew you would love Little Match Girl. ^^

Thank you for the video.
Now I know that if animagic4u were to ever be in iM@S....
...I'd still pick Miki.
-
So you would pick Tsukihime (http://forum.project-imas.com/index.php/topic,1577.msg37646.html#msg37646) instead? ^^
I thought what we had was special!! *o*

Whoa I didn't expect a second video after the first one. Still, I'm totally amazed. I like your intro and ending though. I can't find other words to say but I would say it's cute :) anyways good job :D
-
Thank you so much. ^^
It's made for everyone here who has supported me!
-
Really impressive how you've nailed down Haruka, from the Haru to the Ka. Just... don't kill yourself in all that clumsiness! The camera losin' focus at that moment was coincidentally awesome.
Another great performance, and the outfit compliments you well! Cute ending to top it all off!
Have fun at the convention, your attention to detail with all of this will pay off.
-
Thank you so much Funkies!! You've certainly sticked with me the whole time!!
-
I just watched both your videos and your outfits were great! You make a cute Harurun. Also, you're really pretty! ;D
-
Awesome! Loved the dance and those special segments in the second video ;D . I love what you did with Scarlet Sprite. If you made an extend outfit, which one would it be?

Thanks! Hmm, if I made an extend outfit...maybe either punkish gothic, my dear vampire, or idol@school. ^^
-
Oh wow, on the Megare video you did really good with the dance. The multiple camera angles were great, too!
Overall I am amazed at how good it turned out, great job! You looked cute too.
On the Little match girl video... OMG that was amazing! I loved the trip at the end of the Communication XDDD <3
The dance was pretty good~ Seems like you had a lot of fun recording those XD
-
They both lack. AKA "I freakin' want to see a dance video of a whole 3-person cosplaying group". Persuade some people, bribe them, take control over their minds or use whatever you want, but make it happen!. No other complaints ;-p
-
Thank you Furix!! <3 ^^ I did have a lot of fun and thanks for all the support.

Hmmm mind control isn't Haru-run's speciality...but....*polishes katana* I may have some other rhetorical devices to use on them. ^^;
No 3 person PV!! The only people I know is Tweendoriru and some guy who lives on the other side of the state
Unless you were considering coming down here to dance with me. ^^ I have some thigh high socks you could borrow. : D
-
Second video: great work there. Like the opening and ending too.

Hey, both my dance and visual stats are equal to 0. :-/ All I could do would be headbanging, but that's pretty much useless in Pop (aside from how I look and why I would not fit the genre)... ;)

Ehhhhhhhhhh :-\ what do you mean your last video? Are you taking a season off for sabbatical or retiring from the world of showbiz or something?
Hmm... Oh Rough Time School, that's one of my favorite umm..... wha...? Ok wow... that's really impressive....
... o.o
Did you injure yourself...? Oh dojikko-chan, the true artists are those who endure true pain for their passion! 8)
... I remember Little Match Girl was the first IM@S2 song/video I ever watched... :)
... A bellybutton! How scandalous! The hand moves are complex!
...Oh shaking those hips... hey that's sexy... :D
I haven't played the games directly but I would guess the ending was inspired by a similar style from a later point in the gameplay?
Hmmm you must really like Haruka a lot to put so much effort into these projects... let's see.... ahh:
That pose look familiar? ;)
-
Sankyuu TTB!
Little Match Girl has some difficult foot work so I changed into Rough Time School costume that I bought so I wouldn't have to dance in the heavy boots.
Ahh no, actually the ending was supposed to be the intro of the other video but I thought it would be funny to have a fall in slowmo and since it was too short I just added on the rest. ^^
Hmm...Haruka-chan hasn't had her farewell concert like in boxm@s yet so perhaps I'll spin something out for you guys.
I love you all!
Edit: Oh I practiced falling before the video, no idols were hurt in the making of the video!

I think your Little Match Girl was definitely better than the Megare one :P, Its one thing I've learned from animation, Animation tends to be exagerated in all aspects especially dancing and ironically enough this tends to make it more realistic in some odd way (seeing Im@s dances are animation). You definitely captured this in your Little Match Girl performance however the Megare one tended to be a little dull on some parts but you captured the dynamic movements there properly, I suggest you try to experiment first on some moves on which to exaggerate more (especially the ones where you just stand) and which to make more subtle to make it smooth but not to dull. In short try to add more bounce :P I know it was hard to move in the boots since I do wear boots too so try to experiment xD
One thing to note too in your LMG I really like how you not only used your feet and hands but your core muscles as well although LMG requires you to use your hips It is still one thing I've seen other people tend to overlook.
Other than that for your first try I was really impressed I've seen other fan dancing in the internet not just of the Im@s fanbase and not to mention you really captured the cheery desposition of haruka :P which adds more the appeal (you definitely have filipina blood xD) Keep up the good work and remember do try to avoid tripping xD ;)
-
kaeru-P, arigato for all your feedback!! Megare is an awkward dance and I was so surprised it won. I think it looks much better with more people. ^^;; And yes, it's very hard to dance in boots.
Thanks for the feedback on Little Match Girl, I sort of have balance issues, so creating a tight core will keep you upright in some of those moves of Little Match Girl!! ^^;; I always feel like I'm going to fall over!! Haruka needs core training stat!!
And thank you again for noting my aim to capture Haruka's disposition!
(you definitely have filipina blood xD) Keep up the good work and remember do try to avoid tripping xD ;)
Ahh! I was a little worried people would want me to be Hibikin instead. ^^;
I will do my best to avoid falling over at the con!! : D

Hey guys. A little update.
I don't know if anyone could tell since I'm so sneaky...but I sewed the socks wrong when I made them the first time. (I sewed them on the wrong grain so they were stretchy up and down and not side to side) Thus they were only as long as enough to fit into my boots about 3 cm in. They were short!!
So really, the socks were a pathetic facade and unfortunately, they would not fit my legs at all.
So I used socks glue...that stuff Japanese school girls use to glue their loose socks to their legs and prevent it from falling down.
Problem? The residue is disgusting and got on the socks and my leg and I had to throw the socks away.
Solution: Make new ones. Here's my progress.
Step 1: Haruka helps me find the stretch and I mark it on the side of the fabric so I don't forget this time. Thankfully, though, it is stretchy both ways which I find out later.
Step 2: I measure my thigh diameter divide it by two and take off a few inches because of the stretch. I want them to fit tightly!!
Step 3: After the fabric is cut, I pin the two pieces together, face side in, with Haruka's help.
Step 4: Time to sew the two pieces together.
Step 5: Cutting the seam allowance to allow the seams to lay flat.
Step 6: Not hemmed sock on my leg! ^^ Looks good
(http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7243/7224209142_9f961f1cf4.jpg)
Hemming it will serve three purposes.
A) It looks good.
B) It will make it a wee bit tighter on my leg, which is good.
C) It will make it look more like Haruka's actual socks-
(http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8146/7224253898_2c7f70c346.jpg)
Step 7: I use the free arm on my sewing machine to hem.
Finished hem is not too visible.
Step 8: Cutting the excess fabric again.
Much better!!
Haruka helps me sew the second one as well. ^^

I was a little worried there. Mini-Haruka didn't seem to be pitching in much with sewing the first one. It's all good though, she got her act together and contributed to the second. She may be dressed casually... but an idol's work is never done.
I didn't notice the outfit shortcut in your videos, so the sock glue did the trick for sure. I don't much like how it sticks either... though I've never had to wear it for a practical reason for any period of time. I was a bit curious if the fabric was stretchy or not, as most of that glossy type I've run across doesn't give much (and doesn't seem like it'd breathe either). Neat you found something that worked and handled well. Granted... I don't do much fabric shopping myself.
Thanks for the run-down of how ya did it, always interesting to see it bit by bit. Your Singer seems a bit fancier than what I'm familiar with, but they do make some groovy machines. Your dedication is never-ending and it's awesome to see out of a cosplayer.
-
Huh, I never thought about fabric having a grain. The more you know. They probably talk about stuff like this at the cosplay panels at the local con, but I never attend those.
I haven't touched a sewing machine since middle school classes. I'm afraid of sewing my hands together. :(

Of course! I know you love it. ^^ My singer is nothing fancy. It's from 2001 but it was the top of the line sewing machine in it's day. ^^ *sigh* I do have a 1034 D Brother Serger though, which faithfully sewed the entire skirt and vest. ^^ <3

Now you know...and knowing is half the battle!!
Don't be afraid. ^^;; Then again, maybe I'm not the best person to talk. I think I'm too brave. I put my hand so close to the needle while it's sewing. Heheh...
Well you can never know what you can do until you try!!

My Producer-san just finished collecting items for his costume yesterday!~

At the con we're going to have a special photoshoot so look forward to it!
Any suggestions for some poses between the Producer and Haruka? ^^

Etto~ No offense but has this Producer-san considered shaving or trimming his beard to look more like the Producer? Or wearing a toupee? He's already got the dopey look down pat but his pants seem a bit loose and his suit is a little too short in the sleeves. I'm not good at cosplay or anything but these are just some ideas that came to mind is all. A super-cute Haruka deserves a stylish and handsome Producer deshou? ;)
I'm still confused about this leg cloth glue thing you had written about earlier... it's baffling, I'd never heard of anything like it before... gluing clothing on to the wearer?

Oh Japanese girls use the leg glue all the time. ^^ <3
Look it up!~
-
I like his suit, he's wearin' it loose and ready to produce! The tie is on the money... be it yen or USD. How about giving him an iconic P somewhere, even written on the convention nametag would be groovy? I approve of the facial hair, as not all Ps are cut from the same cloth!
Yar... difficult to think up poses for big P, but whatever you two think up will be quite awesome. Just make sure you get at least one where it's as if he gave you a bad Morning Communication comment. Haruka is hilarious when she throws her arms back in frustration.
Good luck and have fun at the convention!
-
Producer-san needs a P-mask! Unless you are going by anime version of Producer-san.
-
He's going for the anim@s version. ^^

Full body cast from episode 24(?) or no sale.

Yes he should!!

Full body cast from episode 24(?) or no sale.
For some reason I'm thinking of the home and away jerseys sport teams wear.
Like Haruka - home, Dark Haruka - away
Producer - home, Producer body cast - away?
Just a random thought, I have no idea why that popped into my head.
Videos are amazing animagic! Will you perchance be performing live at the con? Apart from the photoshoot with Producer-san.
IDOLM@STER LIVE 4 ... PHXCC 2012
... okay, that doesn't have a ring to it :P
But the con will be noticeably more sweeter and energy filled than usual this year with you there!

Thanks so much! I won't be performing unfortunately...well not in front of people on a stage...but perhaps a little impromptu live.

Good stuff! It's a shame more folks didn't recognize your costume. Seeing it in the outside light really shows how accurately it sparkles. The guy and the
big jerk other dude made a good attempt at posin', and at least you got to hold the figure! Triple thumbs up, right on.
If you make another costume for a future convention, I hope you post the process all over again. Be it Haruka or otherwise, it'll be interesting to see everything all over again. Look like ya had fun, it's groovy all around.
-
Thank you, Funkies. There are a lot of costumes in iDOLM@STER.
I was actually thinking about making a tutorial for the next one I do.
I'm particularly interested in the following:
Hamburger Skater
Princess Melody
Street Hopper
Idol@School
That new Alice outfit not sure what it's called
-
Good work, and ouch on the figure...well, it happens. Reminds me to work on that P mask...and to learn how to tie a tie.
-
Thanks Satty. You can find lots of tie videos on youtube.
Please post pictures here if/when you do cosplay!

I've come back here to consider a new project...
Wired Marionette.
This costume is beautiful in design and wonderful.
Of course, I already foresee some difficulties.
*Wired Bodice- At first thought looks difficult. But I'm thinking of using either hoop skirt wiring or corset boning and using a metallic fabric. The boning will make the fabric become rigid and stiff and look more like the wired bodice.
*Skirt- The back of the skirt opens up and the petticoat is visible. This prevents me from making the petticoat part of the skirt and thus saving on fabric. The circular waved hem of the skirt also seems a bit difficult. Thinking how to carefully do it.
*Boots- Thinking about how to do this still...I'm thinking about crafting armor or some kind of boot cover. Any suggestions?

This will probably be very hard to do, especially the metal parts, but if you do finish it, I'm sure it would be awesome.
Good luck!
-
I don't see why you couldn't go with boot covers. If you can craft it out of the same fabric as the bodice it'll still match wonderfully. You might have to make the knee covers separately, but with your skills I'm sure you could manage to make them fit right in. I don't imagine it being impossible to make it out of some kind of craft metal either. It's your call, though I do imagine making it out of metal could be more expensive depending on what you use.
I think it'd be neat if you went for the authentic metal route, but using fabric throughout would be just as groovy.
-
Isn't metal like that... banned at some cons? Metal straps might be okay at most places if the metal isn't that tough and didn't poke, but no matter how you slice it, metal... can hurt if you kick someone with it, even accidentally. You might want to look around at con rules and stuff to see if that stuff's okay. I think I remember one con banning any sort of metal that wasn't a button or a buckle once. Not trying to discourage you or anything, just saying some places might not take too kindly to that stuff.
... I knew a guy that liked doing fiberglass stuff, but I'm not sure how that would pan out in this case.

Yeah I wasn't thinking of doing actual metal. Metal work is not my specialty after all.
That's why I'm thinking of going with a fiberglass or fabric based boot cover.
-
Ah, sorry. With all that talk of metal and crafting armor, I must've gone into RPG mode. ^^
Cael is not a craftsman. I put my skill points elsewhere. ^^;;
-

Really? I've only heard about weapons ban, and even that is unless they are cosplay props reported to the organisators before con/while buying the idents (only talking about melee ones ofc.).
But then again, I have never been on any big conventions like you have in US (or just "more in the west")...
-

ROFL. Must gather some metals and gain some experience before I do things like that.
But yeah just some fabric and/or fiberglass for now.

Yeah...Well it's extremely costly.
Besides...I don't know anything about metal working nor have an appropriate workshop to be making metal boots.
And dancing in those. *cringe*
Which leads me to my next point....
Even though the iDOLM@STER accessories are extremely unrealistic, it still kind of defies reason to dance in metal boots which leads me to believe if it was real they would be some kind of boot covers.
-
Boots- Would tin foil give the boots a metal look? But even so, that would be a lot of tin foil.

Tin foil is cheap but will look crappy and will eventually come off after just walking around.
Thanks for the suggestion though.

Yeah! I've been thinking about that!! <3 Thanks!
Edit: I've now found the perfect solution for the metal boots. I found an American guy living in Japan who is getting his doctorate focusing in cosplay. He showed on his youtube channel how he makes armor out of foam and then layers it with vinyl. It looks really realistic. So I can mark that down as another problem solved. Now I just have to try it.

And we all knelt down on the ground and bowed our heads as we called him: Master!
Best thing I've heard today.

Update. I've figured out how to craft the boots and decided they're going to be one of the easier parts of the cosplay as a whole. Will post process pictures.

My friend in the doll hobby recently acquired a Saber doll who has armor boots that are very similar to the Wired Marionette ones so now I have more reference imagery.

Back seam will be similar to my own. The boots will be constructed in two parts the calf part and the shoe part.
For the calf armor I'm going to construct that out of a foam covered in vinyl. For the shoe I'm going to basically be covering a pair of high heels.

Here's a miniature update on the Wired Marionette project.
Here's the fabric I have bought!
Curious thing about this fabric is that, I cannot photograph it at all. (As a side note, I'm pretty familiar with my camera's settings and work with it on a frequent basis so that is not the problem.)
The purple fabric, which I promise is actually dark purple in real life is a nice poplin. It drapes delightfully and is lightweight. The fact that it photographs in the more bluish color will help end the debate over the actual color of this outfit.
The metallic fabric is some kind I'm not sure of, but both of the fabrics shown are hanging off the edge of my bed as drape reference. As you can see it is very thick and very stiff. It does not drape at all and has a very very metallic like sheen. After some ironing I think it will be easy to get the metal boot illusion using the same boots I used for my previous Haruka cosplay.
There are still some fabric and notions I am missing though.
For the dress, I am using a concealed (lapped) zipper that will make it so the dress can completely come apart (fold flat out in net form). A similar style for what I call the "Wired Corset" which I'm making separate from the dress for sake of traveling and transporting.
This costume also features quite a few belt thingies, which I need to locate. These belts are extremely convenient for finishing the edges since they won't need to be hemmed or lined and I can use the belt as a finisher.
Tl;dr I'll be starting the actual sewing soon.
-
Whatever you mean, after seeing your previous costume I'm surely awaiting this one... :-)
-

Another short update. Contact lenses!!
A subtle green color since normally green lenses creep me out a bit. So I'm even more Haruka now. ^_^
-
Your cosplay is absolutely amazing! Your love and effort really show! :D
And yes, I'm a little late to the scene. I really need to pay attention to the board, there are so many wondrous things here.

本当にありがとう! Thank you guys!! :D
I will start working on Wired Marionette tomorrow morning!! ><
My tentative schedule is getting the petticoat, dress, sleeves, and back ribbon done tomorrow.
Then corset, gloves, and bib on Tuesday.
And finally boots , kneepads , and other belted accessories on Wednesday.
Wish me luck, will have lots of updates coming at you!

Massive update.
Started this morning by working on the petticoat. Here I am attaching the frills to the bottom.
Then sewing it to the skirt.
The ruffles turned out fabulously!
More pinning for the waist band. It was nearly two yards long, so it took forever.
Test fitting before lunch.
Result!! Petticoat/Inner skirt is now finished.
Then I started working on the dress. I made it in two parts. A "blouse" and then a "skirt". The seam will be hidden by the wired corset so I figured this was an okay approach.
Haruka helped me iron it a bit.
First time doing a scalloped hem so I used this tutorial http://www.coletterie.com/tutorials-tips-tricks/tutorial-scalloped-hem
(https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BFMFtoJCMAESrjY.jpg)
Completed scallops
(https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BFMSccSCMAAYhFm.jpg)
For the black inner scallops, I created all these tiny ones one by one.
They were then hand sewn inside. The inner hem was also reinforced.
So finally,
Here's a little teaser of what the final product should look like.
Will be doing more work later, but that's all for now. ^_^

More Updates
(https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BFQM93ACYAAVXff.jpg)
Dress was finished today
(https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BFQZ3CuCUAAB1De.jpg)
Back preview with a stand in corset
(https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BFQ-shICIAIMQu8.jpg)
Breast plate was made using glue, sewing, a metallic fabric, and interfacing.
So I had a problem with the front belt because I wanted it to have a buckle, but I already bought this fabric:

Then I found this belt with a nice buckle, but it was ugly. So I was thinking about just cutting it off.

Then I flipped it over.

Decided to just use it flipped over since it still functions.

I like it a lot better!
Look from the side: (https://pbs.twimg.com/media/BFcu113CMAAhhEU.jpg)
After removing the previous side loops I found out they perfectly fit my sleeves:

Hello! I know I'm TOTALLY late! But I stumbled across this and looked at all your cosplaying, and...WOW.
I'm very particular about cosplayers of characters I like, and I am not exaggerating when I say I think you're the best Haruka cosplayer I have ever seen. One day, I'll get a Yukiho cosplay of my own, and together with P-san, we shall meet up, attend a con, and be UNSTOPPABLE!!
But I have zero cosplay experience, so that would take ages if it ever actually happened. ^^"
Anyway! Both of the costumes look really amazing, I'm just in awe of how much work you're putting into it and how much skill you have. Great job! :D
But seriously, if I ever get a chance to cosplay Yukipyon, we should do it together.
