Makoto is popularized as the "pretty-boy idol" within 765 Production, and has accumulated more female than male fans because of this. Granted, she was already rather popular among her fellow students at the all-girls school she attends -- her current work as an idol not making the situation any easier for her. While not ungrateful of her popularity, underneath her gruff, boyish exterior Makoto is actually an honest, sensitive girl, and wishes to make herself more feminine. Therefore, unbeknownst to her father she decided to become an idol in order to find a way to a new, more feminine presence for herself and to show others that she can have a girly side as well.

EDIT: It seems some didn't get my post. I only said that because seeing that pic reminded me of an H-Doujin where Yukiho goes psycho, and seeing that pic reminded me of that almost painful experience. 8)

Hehe.....Allow me to explain.
The idea of making Makoto a bishoujo (reverse trap) is because to lower down the taco fiesta factor around the iM@S cast (Basically, at the time, they wanted a boyish character and they added Makoto). Think of it as: An all-girl cast can't be complete without a bishoujo.
More to the point, I don't think Namco will do that, especially not after the Ryo incident.

Expect Makoto to be revealed as a boy in future titles if Ryo’s popularity continues to wax.
Which was just a joke about how popular Ryo is. Since Makoto is the most boyish of the idol's, she's obviously going to be the target for those types of jokes. "Since the first trap was so popular, they'll probably make more... now who can we think of that might be a boy?"
If you'll notice, they also had a video containing Dearly Stars gameplay on that page, showing Makoto as the victim of a Pai-touch. That was a pretty good indication of her female anatomy to me, anyway... And I doubt they'd change that halfway through a series.
As much as I like Makoto's boyish nature, it just wouldn't be the same if she was actually a trap... A Reverse Trap is fine too.

I just noticed something.
Makoto has the best dance stat (next to Ritsuko), which makes her a very good dancer, right? And she has one of the best singing voices in the game (at least, I think so. ;)).

Makoto was a Sapin air force pilot during the Belkan war and witnessed the self inflicted Nuclear detonations on Belkan soil in Belka's desperate attempt to stop the Allied forces. After the War she became a dancer until she received an offer to fly the Eurofighter for the Emmerian Air Force. She along with other members of the Emmerian military were forced into a siege at Silvat town until they were rescued by forces from Khesed which included Chihaya and Yukiho. Her unit was reorganized and she was assigned to fly with Avalanche Squadron. Her unit was able to distract UAV's long enough for Garuda team to take out a dangerous Estovokian ace. She currently flies for the 765 project and is stationed at Gracemeria Air Force Base.

I've seen black～gray, but I've never really seen blue. Unless it's blueish gray.

The best example I can think of is the covers that came with SP preorders (also because I have them; and I can know my monitor isn't messing with me XDD). In the older art (http://moe.imouto.org/post/show/3087/kikuchi_makoto-kubooka_toshiyuki-miura_azusa-the_i) it's easier to see, though you can see it in the newer stuff as well. I'm trying to remember the 765pro voice actresses that are married or have children. Please, someone correct me if this is wrong since I don't follow voice actresses too much.
Akiko Hasegawa (Miki) - married and 1 child
Mayako Nigo (Yayoi) - married and 1 child
Naomi Wakabayashi (Ritsuko) - married and 1 child
Hiromi Hirata (Makoto) - married and 2 children
I wonder if the other 765pro voice actresses are getting peer pressure from their colleagues to start a family? I'm joking. Still, congrats to our voice actresses who are mothers now. I wish for them the same happiness as they gave to the fans like me who love Im@s.
