Man this episode was definitely a lot better than I expected. That intro with Alice or Guilty was just awesome and running into Haruka another time was great, too! This prequel seems to take place during the whole dome concert in the iM@S movie, so unfortunately it doesn't look like we'll get any Million Live! cameos (on billboards, posters, advertisements, etc.) for a while, since they're trainees right now in the anime universe. Perhaps some Cinderella Girls cameos? I loved seeing all the 765PRO cameos in Cinderella Girls so I hope they do something cool for SideM!

I guess the only thing that really caught me off guard were those really sudden instances of CGI during Brand New Field? You have really gorgeous 2D animation that's just suddenly interrupted by really obvious CGI that kinda looks like the CGI used in the movie's M@STERPIECE sequence. The 2D dance animation has improved so much from Cinderella Girls and anim@s (it's waaay less stiff and choppy) but the CGI just takes me out of it. In fact it seems like A-1 Pictures used CGI in the fourth season of UtaPri that they did a while ago, and iirc the first season didn't use CGI at all. Guess it's an unfortunate budget issue from A-1 :( At least the 2D animation looks stunning!

Everything else about the episode was great, and for me it left a great first impression for the rest of the show. All that's left is the mystery of the Producer's gender...

I like mostly everything about the game. The UI is vibrant and really unique to me (the chibis are my favorite part) and it feels the most "console experience" out of the three iM@S mobile rhythm games out on the market right now. At first I thought the work-produce aspect was really boring and tiring but it's actually pretty nice to do while watching/listening to YouTube videos, especially when you're grinding for event points. The graphics thankfully look much better than the YouTube videos and the anti-aliasing's pretty good too. The cloth physics need work though and the models... yeah idk it's a toss-up on the graphics, really.

But speaking of event points, oh my god this event is just way too punishing on casual players lmao. I know it's their first event but only the top 5k players get the event SR? And they aren't giving out an SR through points rewards? This event already has a lot of aspects in common with the mobage Live Event type, but I didn't think the tiering in this game would be just as harsh as the Mobage... Perhaps the anime will increase the playerbase and in turn those tier cutoffs? Idk it's just crazy harsh and requires you to play every hour of the day. I can't even imagine a High x Joker or Jupiter event jfc.

Basically, add a goddamn guaranteed SR in the gacha (HOW is that not a thing for this kind of game omfg), make events WAAAAY more friendly (add a points SR and increase tiers), have a huge graphical update (like pay-Cygames-to-redo-all-your-graphics type of update), or... maybe just not release your game solely to compete with UtaPri? Maybe have a grand late September/early October SideM celebration with the anime and rhythm game at the same time? Give time to promote the game like Millishita?

Sorry for the long ranty post, but Bamco really didn't do SideM justice and I hope we can get on the level of Millishita in the next year. Idk they could've done so much better but meh. I enjoy it for what it is, I just expected so much more for my favorite male idols :/

what I have to say is that, besides characters who don't sing moving their mouthes, I think the mouth motions and lip synching is better than in theater days
I often have the problem that when the girls sing words like "sou" or something like that, they make that wide mouth and not a "o" mouth
in the pvs for live on stage it looks like they are really singing the words and not just try to to some playback xD

Honestly I'm just not a big fan of, in Theater Days, how the girls never show their teeth for the Japanese characters with an ee sound (such as ki, shi, ri, etc.), resulting in a really weird mouth formation lol. It has some awesome choreography, but Raibuste and Deresute seem to have nailed choreo AND lip syncing (besides the whole issue with idols moving their mouths when they're not singing) and I'm very glad Raibuste nailed it from the very start. Hopefully they can optimize lip syncing and add teeth in a future TD update! (which sounds very weird lol)

Anyway, here is the new STARLIGHT CELEBRATE MV for hitting 315,000 pre-registration accounts! ->

(i love teru's smile before the beginning instrumentals omg)

Personally, the SEM models look pretty good, but I do agree that something feels just slightly off about them, now that I take a closer look. I don't know what it is specifically but maybe it's their height differences that kinda make the arms and legs look longer than the norm?? I definitely see how Rui's legs look a bit longer than they should, in regards to his slightly shorter height, and they probably could've done a better job scaling the arms and legs according to their various heights. Or it might just be their skimpier outfits throwing me off since Mofumofuen and the four back-up dancers look fine? haha

And the hair physics AND cloth physics both could definitely use some improvement. I think Starlight Stage has some awesome cloth physics, especially the long-sleeved dresses. They started off kinda rigid but seemed to drastically improve as SSRs released overtime (so I'm sure Raibuste will follow, as there's always room for improvement for new games), but the fact that SEM's pink cape-like things are so rigid and frozen in this MV is crazy to me.

Especially since their album artwork makes them look so thin and flexible and the dance is so hyper and epic, yet their capes just kinda freeze in place. lol I just hope they touch up on these things as the game is released!

Infinite Possibilities MV:

Happykira Park MV:

Not too sure how I feel about the graphics. I have a feeling the choreography is done by male dancers and I actually like how different and "rougher" (not too sure what word to use?) the movements feel compared to the female idols, but it appears that all idols' mouths move even when they're not the ones singing. Even the back-up dancers move their mouths even though they're not part of the song. The camera movements and cuts kinda make that less obvious but I wonder why they couldn't polish the lip syncs before uploading the MV, considering pre-registration has started and everything else about the MVs look pretty good and finished. I'm worried that the weird lip syncs will prevent more dynamic camera movement and cinematography, since the camera usually cuts to another idol as soon as their solo line ends to hide the weird lip syncing.

Otherwise, I like how the models look and how similar they look to their card art style and the game surprisingly looks really good for something we've seen so little of. My only wishes so far would be to improve lip syncing and hopefully fix up those jagged lines and rough edges on the models (hopefully a case-by-case situation depending on your phone)

New trailer for the anime!

Not too sure what to expect tbh, and that's not in a bad way. I'm very happy with how the artstyle looks and I love what units we got as the 315PRO ST@RTING MEMBERS, but 19 main characters is definitely a lot for what will most likely be a two-cour show, not to mention the gradual appearances and recruitment of the other characters not featured as ST@RTING MEMBERS. I'm actually pretty excited to see how A-1 Pictures handles it. Seeing the other Cinderella Girls idols make cameos in the anime was so exciting to me and I still don't have any idea why I enjoyed the cameos so much, but since SideM has a smaller cast, we might actually get to see all units get some focus at one point and get more than just cameos.

I'm really excited about the direction SideM is going and I'm really happy it's rising to where Cinderella Girls and Million Live! are in terms of content. Solo songs, rhythm game, and an anime. I'm so hyped about the future of 315PRO!

Pre-registration is open and premium currency + song trailers are incentives for players to pre-register!

(oh god its finally happening yes)

Here's a link to the official website, where you can watch the new trailer and see the UI and card previews up close!
I actually really like the return of the Shiny Festa gameplay style, with notes coming in two directions and one spot for you to tap. That was a lot harder than it looked in Shiny Festa, but at the same time it looks chill enough to be an easy and accessible game for newcomers.

I love the direction Theater Days and LIVE ON ST@GE are headed with rhythm games. TD has the whole 3D office environment going for it and focuses on idol interactions, and Raibuste looks to have a very unique UI and the Omakase? (can't remember what it's called) mode looks pretty neat, too. They prioritize the whole interaction aspect unlike other rhythm games out on the market and I'm glad Bamco is trying out new things with the rhythm games. They can always tweak the game according to fan response anyway.

Other iM@S discussion / Re: Unpopular opinion

I think main 765 is getting stale at this point in terms of their personalities and especially their overall storylines.

I definitely agree with the point about their personalities and storylines, there's only so much they can do with Chihaya and her little brother. Hopefully we get event stories in Theater Days like in Starlight Stage and we can see more unique stories for main 765. I always wondered why there wasn't a real true story in Platinum Stars; I guess they just ran out of ideas?

My unpopular opinion: I think the 2011 anime did extremely well in what all anime adaptations are supposed to do; advertise the original source. In the end, all adaptations are simply ads for the source work (really well done adaptations don't feel commercialized, however) and I think A-1 Pictures chose the best character stories to represent iM@S: Haruka and Chihaya (and Miki to an extent). Of course, you have the typical viewer who isn't going to check out what iM@S has to offer and it kinda ruins the whole point, but I dunno, I actually love it when anime adaptations pull off their own little exclusive storyline. It treats the people who know the source work, prevents spoilers from those who know the source work, and if it's well done, it's a plus for everybody. 2011's take on Chihaya's route was perfectly executed and it was definitely a highlight for idol anime for me.

In fact I'd go so far as to say the second cour is one of the most well-done idol anime out there and that's actually me thinking really hard about it, too. It feels way less commercialized and "ok now that the anime is done go check out the games and music" like a couple of idol shows. To me I can feel the passion that A-1 put into the anime and idk it just feels like they really wanted to pull off an amazing show.

Kinda disappointing they dropped the ball on the movie, though :/ Cinderella Girls was pretty good so here's hoping they pull off a good SideM.

Yeah for me personally I think it's gonna be a rhythm game. I think rhythm games are the best way to advertise their music. Have either ML! or SideM earned a Gold certification for any of their CDs? I know CG has a few times but I've never heard of a SideM single getting Gold.

I definitely think SideM has the ability to stand up on top. IMHO no other male idol franchise will top SideM's songs (in fact a lot of idol franchises under the Lantis label have good music) and character designs and it's one of the only couple of male idol games out there that doesn't rely on the whole high school, otome, romance, or all of the above trope. I think the premise of SideM alone (men quitting their jobs to become idols)  really helps it stand out. Not sure what it is with male idol series taking place in high school and 90% there's a female student producing them, haha. THOSE are what I'd consider money grabbing tbh.

And about the art style... well, of course it will be that one the one featured in the game, it is the same art style and artist from the Mobage, I don't see why would they change that lol.

Ah, I see! I just noticed how much more polished the art style looks compared to the Mobage art. I also had no idea it was the same developer as Deresute and not THEATER DAYS, which might explain why Million Live has yet to get a crossover event with Granblue Fantasy (iirc Cygames owns Deresute, Raibuste and GBF)!

It seems like the idols don't get different choreography like they did in THEATER DAYS? Deresute at least has engaging camera work so hopefully we get to see more MVs soon and see what else they have in store. The last few seconds of the PV show "Scout" and "Produce" buttons so it's likely that it's indeed a card-based rhythm game! Not sure where the new character artwork comes from but if that's the style we get in-game, that would be really impressive since they all look so visually striking.

I can't believe THEATER DAYS and LIVE ON ST@GE (and the SideM anime!) are happening in the same year. This is such an awesome time for the mobile spin-offs and it leaves me to wonder what they plan on doing with the 765ALLSTARS. They'll be in TD but they'll definitely give the other girls more attention.

Didn't they introduce a new skill in the game called Concentration that broke your combo for getting a Great and rewarded you for getting Perfects? Aiko's Jounetsu FunFare SR introduced it (not sure what other cards have it) and as much as I love Aiko (she's my best girl) I can't stand using it =P

Seems like this is the year for iDOLM@STER mobile games. SideM is getting the anime treatment, that and Million Live are getting the rhythm game treatment, and Cinderella Girls has their 5th Live tour!

That being said I'm really happy 765PRO is being included and it hopefully means the unit songs they sing in will be untouched. I usually never like what happens when Columbia JP shuffles up the singers for the game mix so here"s hoping Bamco / Lantis won't screw it up!

This literally seems like Platinum Stars on mobile with all the 3D communication scenes which is what iDOLM@STER has needed this whole time imho. The Japanese play on their phones more than they do consoles, let alone afford consoles. I think this will be a great popularity push for the MILLIONSTARS and the franchise as a whole.

Soon Bamco will have three rhythm games dominating the top charts and that's awesome in so many ways.

S.E.M. trailer and visual released!

So far we have DRAMATIC STARS, Beit, and S.E.M. as the ones with anime artwork. I'm still really curious to see how A-1 Pictures will pull a cast of lessthan50 characters off. It's not as big as Cinderella Girls where most of them get short cameos, but it's a comfortable size like Million Live where they could easily give all the units one or two episodes and then focus on the main ten ~ fifteen idols.

That being said, the art style is looking great and I enjoyed the 765 and CG anime, so here's hoping A-1 Pictures gives the best spinoff the anime it deserves! (still hoping on SideM joining M@STERS of IDOL WORLD though)
