Then again, I've only heard it from /a/ so far...

Not necessarily.
They like some animes until it gets massively popular, like TTGL, Madoka, and Kill la Kill. Then they promptly talk shit about it.
I'm sure this must be some hipster technique, but I'm not sure what it is.
In any case, I'm following JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders, which has so far been good. Unfortunately, I've been following the Commie releases... the last episode they subbed was episode 8 on the 14th. D:

General opinion is that the first anime has better beginning, like Brotherhood expected you to watch it first and wanted to focus from where the original branched from manga.
Myself, I dunno. Watched FMA years ago, and recently started Brotherhood because I was bored and had it bookmarked on YouTube. Haven't watched more than a few episodes, but it felt too shounen'ish for me. I mean of course it's a shounen, but some things felt out of place in anime while they are OK in manga (GITS while being a different beast has similar things and they didn't make it to neither anime adaptation - for better. I don't have any problem with them being in manga, though). And I remember liking the more serious atmosphere in FMA in general more.
But again, that was years ago.

Girls und Panzer. Just picked up the DVD collection after it dropped to a pretty reasonable price at Fry's. I'm really loving it so far (I've got 4 episodes to go now).

So it sounds like it's a varying of opinions?
I think I'll start with the 2003 anime and see if I don't get too bored or annoyed. Just for the sake of connectivity.
