That's such a negative way to look at it. Probably right, but negative nonetheless... I'd root for an adaptation, but I'd be too scared of Hannah Montanna style girls to actually do so.

It's exactly what I wouldn't buy.

I agree.

I'd go as far to say I wouldn't even take it if it was free. I love IM@S, not another pop idol or x-factor rip off.

I actually don't want to see IM@S released in the west. I changed my mind after thinking about how it would be ruined. The best solution is for them to add subtitles to the Asian (Singapore, Hong Kong and others but not Japan) release. People from all over the world can buy that if they want it, it will be understandable, and only the people who understand Anime/Japanese stuff will find it.  In other words it wont have to sit on a shelf in front of the idiots and morons who make up the majority of high st game shop visitors. Namco wont have to spend money to release it abroad (including the marketing, the certification, distro etc etc).

I think Namco are open to it also, I haven't had it confirmed but I understand the Asian release of L4U included an English paper card/ folded paper with some translated menu items on it or something - just enough to be able to work the game. I am still looking for a copy, simply because I want to support that idea - and because it would be useful.

They could always try localizing Dream Club, the objective of the game is to get girls to like you, and get them drunk. White people be all over that shit yo. I mean D3P are pretty shameless and have constantly dispensed kusoge after kusoge year after year with their Simple Series, even localizing Oneechanbara Vortex after a few years.

So, if half naked girls slaughtering zombies can get localized, I think something like Dream Club would be more likely. Especially since Agarest was also localized, which is basically an eroge with a terrible RPG system.

One word: Setsu.

You can bet your ass that feminist Taliban groups, self-righteous bigots, and filthy religious zealots will be frothing at the mouth of the image of a loli-like character in skimpy clothes, getting drunk and going out with the player.

In response to all the bickering about ps3 v. xbox thing, the ps3 is technically superior. But- maybe there is something that they are not telling us about their real influence to make the game on the xbox.

"Microsoft is paying them an awful lot of money to keep console exclusivity on the one thing keeping their console afloat in Japan"?

Cynical, moi? Mais, non.

fans gave the game a one star rating on amazon and sent various formal requests to namco asking to restore the original team and add the multiplayer again. :/

Makes perfect sense when you think about it. Its kind of the same way Halo worked out for the first Xbox you had people buying Xbox's just to play Halo. In the case of The iDOLM@STER:
Quote from: Wikipedia
"Over four times as many Microsoft points were sold on the date of The Idolm@ster 360 release as on the date before it"
Dollar bills for Microsoft and huge success for NBGI. This would also explain why Ace Combat 6 (another Namco game that came out the very same year) was also an Xbox exclusive title. Unlike the iDOLM@STER, Ace Combat was not as much an earth shattering force. Which is why the newly announced Ace Combat is a multi-platform game.

Namco and Microsoft believe, based on their previous success with the iDOLM@STER, they will achieve the same result because they believe the fan base is more willing to accept exclusive titles. Which means Microsoft is willing to cash out the money to keep it that way if it means lots of Microsoft point sales.

Then in my opinion, it's not much more expensive to include 4 more characters (and the dialog would seem pretty... hollow). If however, the dialogs, and the direction of the dialogs, are all unique (in that, say, Haruka and Chihaya both respond with different ideas, and dialogs are tailor-made to suit them), then I can kinda see exactly how much content you need.
That better be the case. You can't replace producing stagnant Iori with unique Haruka + Chihaya dialogue though :/ there's a reason someone is called a "fan".

Also, there's still that fact: The VAs were already paid. Unless Rie Kugimiya got less yen than Imai Asami, NBGI had just wasted some money

That would be void if Rie Kugimiya actually do get less than Imai Asami from the beginning though

Come to think of it...

I still think that selling the dang title worldwide via total free-regionization would cash in more money than what Microsoft would pay.

Think: Microsoft won't pay so much as to suffer monetary loss only to keep Microsoft points selling. NBGI is getting less than if they sell the DLC directly. They can create iM@S points dammit, or simple PayPal stuff, whatever works.

Via total free-regionization, people outside Japan can buy the game (and subsequently, DLCs) too, cashing even more money for NBGI

But I do have to admit, this kind of game is not exactly popcorn, selling it outside Japan might not yield that much money

Producing Hannah Montana? Dear God no, please

No western localization, no iDOLM@STER-like game (otherwise, we WOULD be producing Hannah Montana XD Provided we even got the game). I like the idea of an "Asian" release or similar; just an option for English subtitles and no region lock.

It could even be crummy subtitles (though a lack of punctuation and spelling would drive me nuts, I'd accept it).

Though, for such a region-locked game, they DID include an English instruction pamphlet with the Asian releases of iM@S SP (plus the back of the game case is in Chinese).

I know there's some suggestive dialogue in the game (particularly with Miki) as well as the fact that 12-, 13-, and 14-year olds are working in a competitive industry (like Pokemon kids aren't), iDOLM@STER is no worse than some other things we've seen. Just give it to us with English subs, NBGI ;0; Keep the voices and songs in Japanese and save yourself work there.

And, even with selling it outside of Japan not reaping a -ton- of extra moolah for them, it is still extra.

You're a 10 years old kid using innocent animals for your own ego to beat up grown ups so that you - yes a 10 years old kid - can kid around saying you're the fcuking strongest person in the world, so yeah I agree.

Japanese stuff should not get a dub. I've heard enough English Naruto I can puke... make it western from the very beginning like Final Fantasy X.

Suggestive? I saw a video demonstrating Chihaya and Miki don't mind being groped. I'm using the term "don't mind" very loosely here. I tip my hat that the folks at NBGI realized someone will eventually try it.

The last thing I need from NBGI is that more males make appearance. I like to have everyone in the wallpaper, and while Jupiters are not bad-looking, it certainly is a stain. Kind of like how president Obama ends the killing spree... not in a bad way mind you. I know adding more female idols will lead to fans asking for them to be producible, at which point NBGI folks might say "screw it" but still...

Think about it: you're a male, and as your cellphone's wallpaper you got 3 cel-shaded guys dancing around. That's not a great situation to dream of

EDIT: there! no more typo!

It comes down to profit vs. production costs as far as I can see.

If they subtitled the game, they would still need to produce it abroad (+advertising, printing, distribution etc etc.) and if they weren't sure if the profit would add up it's not a risk they're prepared to take. If they went all out and re-voiced the characters and/or the songs they would definitely need to know that there is a paying audience and general public willing to buy it and 9001 (£/$ etc.) worth in DLC.

I can understand not localising the games in this case, because I can't see it doing well in English countries, plus a few things would end up being removed for controversy's sake. The last thing they need along with the lack of profit in an English release is people screaming at the content and putting it and the company under fire on the English side. Unfortunately, not everyone sees 3D models as 3D models these days.
