I thought... you could look at ye flashing lights (during each appeal chance in Im@s 1), and the manual stated that you could Just Appeal?
Ah, yeah. Page 30, second section. Of course, it doesn't use the term Just Appeal, but anyone familiar with the mechanic can understand what they're saying. The timing is pretty frickin' tight though, until you get to the SP version.

You can, but none of the original game really clarifies this, even in the pre-audition tutorial. Some songs are really easy to keep rhythm on like relations, others are a complete mess like "agent yoru wo iku".
