There are multiple shadow units in the game and they appear in the charts at around single 3 iirc and are your fellow 765pro idols who're trying their hardest as a solo unit.
They appear at higher level FES's as opponents, including Vesperia.
Every unit uses their own attack pattern and higher end costume pattern.

There's
Haruka: Shadow★Princess. No real explanation for her name. Prob cause she's "main".
Makoto: Shadow★Prince. Makoto~kun
Mami: Shadow★Artemis. Based on the goddess of the hunt who happens to be the twin sister of Apollo.
Takane: Shadow★Luna. Gasp, what could it be..
Yukiho: Shadow★Driller, Dori, Driller.
Hibiki: Shadow★Mars. Roman God of War, not sure why they used this.
Miki: Shadow★Venus. Roman Goddes of Love, fertility etc. Seductive~
Chihaya: Shadow★Siren. Greek mythology thingie. Bird+ woman+ singing. Nuff said.
Yayoi: Shadow★Lakshmi, Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity :|

Ah! Now I want to hear more of the Haruka / Hibiki / Yukiho unit..

I'm really growing to love Miki and Hibiki. I previously didn't like their voices very much, but I've found that I'm liking them more and more with every new song. I'm surprised at how much I've liked the DLC songs so far, especially Ai Like Hamburger. It was so unexpected! The tune gets stuck in my head at the worst times.
As much as I loved the song from the most recent catalog, I think I was more excited about the bats and the nails. Can't wait to see what they bring out next!

Yeah, the shadow group uses all the songs the player uses - if you lose, they'll perform the song they're assigned to during the FES.
