What if Project Jupiter didn't exist? Then wouldn't iM@S2 be a little boring to play because you can only be rivals with your own production? (and wouldn't that mean friendly rivalry?)

Well, you never know. In the original, you didn't have rivals at all sans the people you went up against in auditions.
I wouldn't say the rivals are necessary. They just make things a little more interesting.

Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
Kirro:
hmm, I must I have have been wrong then. I went and checked out the PVs and there wasn't any mention of it.)
Jeeez, my mind makes things up so bad. I could have swore that Mami said that Ami's boyfriend did something and that's what caused the split up... I must have been imagining unless someone says otherwise.

Well...If you're really sure that's what they said, how about taking a picture of it and post it here?
Cael K.:
Well, I guess I gotta apologize for a sec, I'm operating under the assumption that Ryuuguu isn't going to be playable, but eh... I don't think that's unreasonable to think at this point. They would've said something by now, unless (like I mentioned earlier) they're planned as DLC. I doubt it, but if so then release day would be an appropriate time to announce that, I think.
But whatever. I was thinking that they didn't have the resources to pour in all 13, and had to cut some idols. I still want this to be the case, but when I really thought about things, the other four idols are doing most of what the other nine playable ones are, except for all the commus (secret, event, and regular) and maybe something else I'm not seeing. It's something I'll have to play the game to find out what's in it, then I can decide.
I was also thinking that maybe one or more of the seiyuu wouldn't or couldn't drop that much time on it. I guess if nothing else, that's the only reason I can think of to explain things. Doesn't really put my mind at ease, since I'd have no way of knowing if that was really the case, but... it's either that, or someone at BNGI really hates people like me. That doesn't seem to make sense, but worse things have happened. ^^;
Even if the largest part of what I hoped would be the game's appeal isn't really there for me anymore, I'm still hoping it will be a good game. I'll play it, then I'll see. I just hope I won't see things that'll rule the first two possibilities out, is all.

Generally you need a supporting cast to drive narrative, but just to throw some food for thought out there, not all conflict has to be with other people - it could also be conflict within the person himself. Heck, you could totally do something with say... Yayoi's family or something. Bring the fact that they're poor as dirt to the fore, and how she deals with it and I think that'd be a good playthrough. Bring in her family as NPCs, if you want. Just sayin', there's multiple angles to make conflict with.

But then, it wouldn't be Idolm@ster anymore. Don't you think?
