Do you remember when we noticed Miki was missing from SP?
Not that I'm saying that they'll be back in here in some way, but that's something to keep in mind.

Chronologically speaking, do you think they are going to place this sometime after the first game or are they going to throw that out altogether and start fresh... again?

I'd like to know this too, although I think it's still too early to tell.
Since Takane and Hibiki in it, it might seem that it takes place after SP and DS, assuming that the story does continue on from the previous games. But then NB says that the game takes place 6 months after the idols made their debut from the original game, which either means SP never happened and Takane and Hibiki were there from the start.
I believe I might be thinking too hard about this. Somebody please correct me.

How about the prototype?
hibiki and takane were originally part of 765 in the prototype before they were removed from the arcade.

Should not have something to do with the prototype...Hibiki and Takane didn't even have the same name and story background back then.
