Anime Trends for better or worst, YOUR opinion
« on: November 27, 2009, 12:29:41 am »
I thought it would be interesting to see the communitys thoughts on trends and outright cliche's in anime series today.

Simply name a trend, cliche, or some sort of up and coming change that you have noticed in most series and mention if it is for the benefit of anime or simply a distraction.

An example would be the use of "fan service" shots for a general ratings boost, in some cases yeah its a decent change of pace in a comedy (such as the panty flash during Zetsubou Sensei to instigate an already crazy episodic plot) and at other times its just a lame excuse to keep your attention on what is a mediocre series.

Don't think too hard into a trend! If you have seen it in a few series it's probably popping up in many more. Just share your opinion on if a particular trend is distracting, keeps you coming back to anime, or if it is only entertaining in certain circumstances.

Moe.

It's everywhere.

If you create a series today, and it has no moe, it will not succeed.

Bishonens and sexual ambiguity.

Much like moe, if the cast doesn't have some bishonens or implied/blatant homolust in it, it's not going to be as popular as it should. Not that I have anything against it, but it's becoming too trendy.

Too many episodes of bad shows.

Too little episodes of good shows.

lol, nice article!
it seems like the studios are playing safe and going with the animation trends, that's why I am still rooting for anime's that feature differing styles of animation like Bakemonogatari and Zetsubou Sensei, it's one of the many reasons that got me hooked to anime is due to the variety of animation styles between the series.

can't agree with you more there.

But yeah, that typical Parody Anime that tries too hard to parody EVERYTHING and yet fails. Lucky Star is one of the few that succeed.

Also agreeing with Scotty.

Lucky Star is one of the few that succeed.
Some people (read: a lot) beg to differ about that.
I just thought Lucky Star was ok, personally. Though I did sorta like the Initial D parody.

I have to agree with you there. There are great anime out there like K-ON who have gotten only a few episodes.

There are people who'd disagree with you there, saying that moe did destroy the anime generation.

Personally, I only think this: Too much moe = unhealthy for your anime health.

That's what he tried to get across. Seeing as how we're talking about trends here, he has a point. The latest trend is moe, and every company will cash in on it because it's the popular thing, hence trend. This will obviously force others to voice their opinion on the trend, which is why they're calling it a corrosion to anything anime right now.

Tsundere. It was cute at first, but seems now there's at least one no matter where you look.

'moe' is not a separate genre or term of animu
moe means anything that you find arousing, something that turns you on, or basically means 'fetish' like megane-moe, tsundere-moe, etc.
moe is a cut-off term of moeru (燃える) witch means to heat up or used as a self-adjective it means you're feeling fired up.
