tsukihime:
Hmhm, my taste generally belongs to songs that are composed well. I must apologize but I once tried listening to Perfume and it sounded just too generic for me.
Maybe someone here can recommend me a good song of theirs? Since I'm usually just a fan of songs not performers.
animagic4u:
I liked Perfect Star Perfect Style because it has a lot of song elements I like:
-A catchy bass line
-English Lyrics
-Somewhat interesting chords (I like em anyway)
I am listening to it right now ^^
baruhara:
Well, it was;
『虫のバラード』
〖柏木由紀〗
Which is not as good as Akimoto's version! At all!
But now it's this, which is the most adorable thing I have ever seen. I honestly can't fathom why anybody wouldn't like any of them.

Have you listened to 『Movits!』, the Swedish Swing/Hip-Hop band? I assume if you're willing to listen to foreign Japanese songs, you'd be willing to give the wonderful language of Sweden a try.
While I'm recommending Swedish things, 『Detektivbyrån』 is an enjoyable instrumental band that has fun songs, like 『Om Du Möter Varg』, which sounds like a song that should be the soundtrack to a movie where Harry Potter visits the circus that's invaded by aliens.

The American music industry is the same as the music industry in any other country; it produces what's popular at the time to make more money. It just happens that pop is most popular in America this time, so a lot of it is pop-oriented as a result.
Foreign music follows different popular genre interests, so it's a breath of fresh air compared to the stagnant hordes of pop idols in the Western world. That's probably why more people who are willing to listen to foreign music find it's more creative than the stuff they're used to.

I wasn't a big fan of Autotune at first but it started to grow on me. As far as Perfume goes, I think part of the reason I'm a fan of their music is largly in part to the accompaniment of the background music to their songs. For someone who grew up on retro games and their music, Perfume's songs kind of just remind me of that.

I haven't really kept up on them much lately, but Artifical Girl and Love the World are two of my more favorites from them.

I think that was one of the first songs I heard from them, and it was because of a MAD someone made between that and Idolmaster (those two seem to go together pretty well.)

That's what I was meaning also to say, Japanese or not, west or east depending on your tastes, Some music you will find not to your liking.
Autotune is just a trend, it will most likely not last out in a few years or so, sooner or later a new "trend" would be more commonly used, leaving auto tune back to where it came from.
http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/auto-tune I highly recomend people watch the first vid there, its a short documentary about auto-tune.
