About the IRC, you can use Mibbit if you don't want to download a client.

Use Rizon as the server and #project-imas at the channel.

For windows if you don't want to use xchat, there are others too:

My Recommendations:
Windows: Still finding a good one, but I've been using Orion. Kinda want to try out Quassel IRC
Linux: XChat
OS X: Colloquy
