What exactly is the difference?

image songs are songs that give extra boost to the idol's image stat than it normally would to any other idol, because they like the song.

personal songs are songs with lyrics that are basically made just for the idol, with lyrics fitting their personality and character as well.

Okay, thanks for clarifying. I think someone (me) should add that in to enlighten anyone like me who hasn't played the game

That sounds like a good idea. Perhaps it could be included in the game pages and then linked to from the character pages.
