Guys, so I just watched the first episode last Sunday, and it was so damn awesome. I don't really have to tell you all what happened, but one thing is for sure: this is probably the best adaptation of any iDOLM@STER anime so far. also I am beginning to love Kaoru now!

I love anime, food, news and Anderson Cooper. ❤

I hate Kaoru, he was so rude with my dear Tsubasa... how dare he to mess with the sweetest cinnamon roll :(

Well, seeing Ryo again was a nice surprise.
Anyway, the anime is interesting. I liking it. As for characters, since I like cold type and blue characters, I liked Kaoru. But I admit he's sort of a jerk. xD

Just watched episode 9.  I liked this episode, and the last episode since Jupiter had much importance. (Liked, that flyer too with the 765 idols that the producer was showing to Jupiter.)

(what I’m about to say isn't going to make much sense.  Oh, well).

I just want to say that this episode affected me a lot.  Jupiter helped me take a step closer in getting into im@s way back in 2011 before the anime came out.  I guess I felt I could relate to them more than the producer.  I felt like I was their rival rather than 765.

If I had to describe my feeling this episode, it would be nostalgic (well…I tend overuse this word a lot)

When they left 961 their future was uncertain. That was similar to me when I graduated since I was a student. My future was uncertain too.  I felt helpless.

But, they kept struggling because they wanted to keep their dedication and gratefulness to their fans who supported them even after the disaster with 961.  But, the most important thing I felt they had was patience.  Hoping someday something good will come out of it.

I guess I could sort of relate to that too.  Had several failures and no talent, but kept on struggling. Maybe, my time to shine wasn’t now.  Sometimes, you want things right away.

But now, just like how Jupiter is different from their 2011 self, I’m different from my 2011 self.  They become famous, and looking back I realized how much we changed and improved ourselves.  But, I want to keep going even further. Just want to thank them for being cool guys to hang out with.

And, I really like that song at the end. Just has that feeling of nostalgia.

Just realized SideM has been airing for a while.

I've always liked Jupiter, even when the iM@S2 hatetrain against them was going strong. So I'm glad to see Jupiter make a comeback in more of a mentor role. And you really get a sense of how close those three are. Touma in particular is legit one of my favorite idols. He's definitely the best "red leader" character.

The SideM anime is actually pretty damn good. With Tsubasa and W, things got a little more serious than I was expecting it to, which isn't a bad thing. At least it's not forced drama like Mio. The whole "fuck my previous job I'm gonna become a pop idol" thing gets a little silly, but stranger things have happened in real life. I'd definitely put SideM above Cinderella Girls at the moment.

As a side note, Kaoru is pretty much Slightly Bitchier Chihaya: Doctor Edition. But Shiki is top tier husbando.

You need to remember that some of them had to quit their jobs even before having the idea of becoming idols. Take Tsubasa as an example. He needed to quit because he legit got PTSD thanks to having a troublesome flight (which is honestly one of the most realistic and well-handled examples of drama in im@s, SideM in general has really good bg stories tbh), and that’s because he could’ve ended with the lives of a lot of people who were on that flight. S.E.M’s reasons are the silliest ones, but S.E.M itself is a p silly unit (and one of the most amazing ones! ♡) so it goes well with them lol.

The transition from freelance lawyer to idol was a bit jarring, but I do agree it applies to SEM more than anyone else. SEM's a bit too wacky for me. But I can see why people find them endearing, plus they add a lot of variety to the cast.

Tsubasa's episode was fantastic, actually. I like that the "yellow/green idol" drama was early on, not dragged out, and actually pretty heartbreaking and relatable.

That last episode was nice. HighXJoker worked well.

BTW, looks like they kept the "idol concept". I mean, that thing that was mentioned in the first anim@s. For Miki, is someone who can shine. For Chihaya, is someone who can bring hope. For Haruka, a dream.

For now, we have:

- a hero of justice;
- someone who wants to be the best (but of course, there's something hidden and we'll know soon);
- a person who wanted to "see another view";
- a teacher wanting to guide his students (which sounds pretty noble actually), and other 2 that decided to go with him;
- a group of students wanting to enjoy their youth;
- former soccer players wanting to entertain the people (like they did while playing soccer).

As for Pierre and others, I still didn't get it.

Well, there's the drama for the season. When Kaoru and Teru went off doing solo work and P asked Tsubasa what he was going to do, I had a brief moment of deja vu and was internally screaming TSUBASA NOOOO DON'T GO INTO THE UZUKI SPIRAL OF DEPRESSION. That might also have been brought on by this Tsubasa Utau cover of S(mile)ing!. But it seems like that won't be a thing, so I'm relieved.

The drama ball returned to the "cool" character, it looks like. I predict that Slightly Bitchier Chihaya: Doctor Edition will eventually overwork himself and collapse. Really wouldn't mind Jupiter calling him out on his behavior, either.

At first, he just said he want to be the best. Then, he said he want to be the best for money. Great, but there's clearly more. Surely, we'll know his concepts soon enough. But the way he questions his producer leave traces of despair.

As for Pierre and others, I still didn't get it.

Beit were former part-time workers who have family problems (Pierre's two older brothers fought constantly over who should inherit the throne after their father became ill, neglecting Pierre as a result and had to move to Japan to avoid the drama. Minori's parents died when he was very young and his uncle, who took care of him in their place, was murdered when he was a teenager. Kyoji's rich family rejected him for failing the entrance exam for college and then ran away, vowing to succeed without relying on his family's name) becoming their own happy family. They became idols as a way to make people smile (via Minori's suggestion).

And to be honest, that episode didn't do them justice, which is quite sad/amusing considering how fricking popular they are (yes, they're more popular than Jupiter).

And yeah, I'm ready for the popcorns for "Kaoru pls" the episode. *munch munch*

Yeah, totally predicted that Kaoru would collapse from overworking himself. I'm glad he finally apologized to everyone and started defrosting a little. I also like how the others didn't delve too much into Kaoru's reasons for doing idol work in the first place.

The recurring Glasses Boys thing is cute and should be an actual producable unit for laughs and giggles. Kaoru, Shiki, Kyosuke, Michio, and maybe Genbu should get a song together. They wouldn't sound half-bad, either.

iM@S anime usually have 26 episodes total, right? The 765pro anime was one continuous season and the CG anime had two seasons if I remember correctly. SideM seems like it will go up to thirteen episodes, so I hope it gets another cour as well. They resolved Tsubasa's and Kaoru's issues cleanly. So I'm really curious what the dilemma for a second season would be and who will receive the "redemption via singing" scene.

Also hoping for a 2nd cour. Terus still really hasn't had a character arc yet, some dilemma

I see. Well, they didn't show much about Beit. Only slightly for Kyouji and very little about Minori while drifting a car.
Anyway, a nice concept for them.

Also hoping for a 2nd cour. Terus still really hasn't had a character arc yet, some dilemma

Same for me. 13 episodes is not enough.

Wow, there were so many cuts and reused animations considering this was the final episode... It's a good thing W and Beit got their own scenes, though. SideM generally looked a lot better than the original iM@S, but it definitely has less budget than CG because they've been using 3D models for faraway and behind shots all season. Kind of disappointed there wasn't a dance for the new song like for Jibun REST@RT and GOIN'!!!. It just replayed anime scenes like in Watashi-tachi wa Zutto...Deshou, the actual final episode for 765pro. Now I'm worried this actually is SideM's final episode...

Actually, I watched the SideM 1st Stage live concert footage just yesterday (which was super awesome actually) and the anime concert was preeetty similar. Glad Planet scape made it in, but I was hoping for a slightly longer scene to build more of an emotional climax since it's a pretty emotional song about Jupiter's journey anyways. Its inclusion in the episode felt a little short, like it was a bam bam and done type of deal (plus the lipsync doesn't match up?!).

For anyone who wants to watch Jupiter killing it live with Planet scape, it's here. I think the Moon side performance is even better (slightly, because in the Sun side Shouta's seiyuu is legit trying not to cry and failing at the very end of the concert). But that's not on Youtube, so.

Overall SideM was pretty good, and it really needs a second season. I like that the characters have their own clearly defined backstories, there's a larger variety (because a cast of all girls aged 10-18 is getting a little old), and the units were made up of people who were already close to each other with their own group dynamics. The cast was a lot more interesting than CG's cast, which felt mostly bland and threw way too many idols at you. SideM needed to deviate even more from the usual iM@S formula, though, and I hope it does that in its next installment.

Also, Touma and Shiki are best boys. Fight me.
