BTW, looks like they kept the "idol concept". I mean, that thing that was mentioned in the first anim@s. For Miki, is someone who can shine. For Chihaya, is someone who can bring hope. For Haruka, a dream.
For now, we have:
- a hero of justice;
- someone who wants to be the best (but of course, there's something hidden and we'll know soon);
- a person who wanted to "see another view";
- a teacher wanting to guide his students (which sounds pretty noble actually), and other 2 that decided to go with him;
- a group of students wanting to enjoy their youth;
- former soccer players wanting to entertain the people (like they did while playing soccer).
As for Pierre and others, I still didn't get it.

Beit were former part-time workers who have family problems (Pierre's two older brothers fought constantly over who should inherit the throne after their father became ill, neglecting Pierre as a result and had to move to Japan to avoid the drama. Minori's parents died when he was very young and his uncle, who took care of him in their place, was murdered when he was a teenager. Kyoji's rich family rejected him for failing the entrance exam for college and then ran away, vowing to succeed without relying on his family's name) becoming their own happy family. They became idols as a way to make people smile (via Minori's suggestion).
And to be honest, that episode didn't do them justice, which is quite sad/amusing considering how fricking popular they are (yes, they're more popular than Jupiter).
And yeah, I'm ready for the popcorns for "Kaoru pls" the episode. *munch munch*
suzushinayuriko:
Yeah, totally predicted that Kaoru would collapse from overworking himself. I'm glad he finally apologized to everyone and started defrosting a little. I also like how the others didn't delve too much into Kaoru's reasons for doing idol work in the first place.
The recurring Glasses Boys thing is cute and should be an actual producable unit for laughs and giggles. Kaoru, Shiki, Kyosuke, Michio, and maybe Genbu should get a song together. They wouldn't sound half-bad, either.
iM@S anime usually have 26 episodes total, right? The 765pro anime was one continuous season and the CG anime had two seasons if I remember correctly. SideM seems like it will go up to thirteen episodes, so I hope it gets another cour as well. They resolved Tsubasa's and Kaoru's issues cleanly. So I'm really curious what the dilemma for a second season would be and who will receive the "redemption via singing" scene.

Also hoping for a 2nd cour. Terus still really hasn't had a character arc yet, some dilemma

I see. Well, they didn't show much about Beit. Only slightly for Kyouji and very little about Minori while drifting a car.
Anyway, a nice concept for them.

Same for me. 13 episodes is not enough.
suzushinayuriko:
Wow, there were so many cuts and reused animations considering this was the final episode... It's a good thing W and Beit got their own scenes, though. SideM generally looked a lot better than the original iM@S, but it definitely has less budget than CG because they've been using 3D models for faraway and behind shots all season. Kind of disappointed there wasn't a dance for the new song like for Jibun REST@RT and GOIN'!!!. It just replayed anime scenes like in Watashi-tachi wa Zutto...Deshou, the actual final episode for 765pro. Now I'm worried this actually is SideM's final episode...
Actually, I watched the SideM 1st Stage live concert footage just yesterday (which was super awesome actually) and the anime concert was preeetty similar. Glad Planet scape made it in, but I was hoping for a slightly longer scene to build more of an emotional climax since it's a pretty emotional song about Jupiter's journey anyways. Its inclusion in the episode felt a little short, like it was a bam bam and done type of deal (plus the lipsync doesn't match up?!).
For anyone who wants to watch Jupiter killing it live with Planet scape, it's here. I think the Moon side performance is even better (slightly, because in the Sun side Shouta's seiyuu is legit trying not to cry and failing at the very end of the concert). But that's not on Youtube, so.
Overall SideM was pretty good, and it really needs a second season. I like that the characters have their own clearly defined backstories, there's a larger variety (because a cast of all girls aged 10-18 is getting a little old), and the units were made up of people who were already close to each other with their own group dynamics. The cast was a lot more interesting than CG's cast, which felt mostly bland and threw way too many idols at you. SideM needed to deviate even more from the usual iM@S formula, though, and I hope it does that in its next installment.
Also, Touma and Shiki are best boys. Fight me.
