Hello, guys! This is nikorai and I’m here to present once again my Translation Project for
Idolm@ster Live for You Original Anime DVD Bundled Version

I know that many of you here run your own translation projects. I thought that I’m not much worse and I could perhaps give it a try myself.

If you missed my posts at the old forums here the short summary of past events.
I started to work on the translation of the anime back in November, 2008. The reason for that was that the fansubs released for this OVA were quite poorly done. I intended to release my own version quite quickly but the script turned out to be quite difficult for my level of Japanese. In fact, I couldn’t make out 3 lines and my English needed translation-check and stylistic editing. Looking for people interested in this was taking quite some time. Then I understood that making the subtitles for the anime alone and leaving the rest of the videos is not a good idea. Since the disc is old the only reasonable way to attract attention was to come up with translation of the whole DVD which was not done before.
Translating the Danketsu video wasn’t too difficult but it still needs editing.
The most difficult part was to translate the live show where it’s very hard to make out what they’re saying. I even turned to a translation agency for help and they did indeed made some 50% of the script correct but failed on the whole to catch Japanese and they didn’t even take money for their work. So I continued to work of the script for the live show. It was already March. I also had an eye surgery scheduled on April. So I had the surgery and it was successful but the recovery and treatment after that took 3 months on the whole. So I couldn’t effectively work on my translation.
Also I needed someone to correct the script for me but nobody was around for quite some time.
Then last week I got extremely lucky to get in touch with a native speaker of Japanese who I found at animesuki forums. He kindly agreed to check the script for me. When I got the text back I couldn’t believe my eyes. What I thought to be an OK text was in fact plain wrong. For the last few days I was revising the translation once again and as a result I re-wrote about half of the lines for over 70 pages of text.

What I have now is divided into 3 sections.

1. The video rip will be redone.
a. 「L4U!オリジナルアニメ」本編
iDOLM@STER L4U! OVA, special episode. Updated - 09/27/09.

c. A sneak peek of Remix B version for 16 songs.
Nothing here.

d. «Great Party @ Tokyo» L4Y! and an open conference. (v1.01)

Translated for the first time in history.

Thanks to mendokusa-san’s help the script has turned from Mostly Wrong to Mostly Right.
Since every line of the script is translated I updated the version to #1.0. Of course, it doesn’t mean the translation is 100% accurate (my estimate is 98% correct).

Other files include:
1) List of DVD contents
http://www.sendspace.com/pro/dl/ipx4nz
It comes along with translated comments. Highly recommended to take a look at.
2) Translation notes (5 pages worth of text)
http://www.sendspace.com/pro/dl/lrd38l
Here I came up with some interesting discoveries about the anime and the live show.
3) Credits

This is a list of people who worked on the project so far. You can undoubtedly find a few familiar names here.

Translation in subtitle form:
a. iDOLM@STER L4U! OVA, special episode. - Updated

Complete version, up and running along with some awesome typesetting and karaoke effects.

b. A wonderful promotional video of “The Team”.
http://www.sendspace.com/pro/dl/r8hi2a
Unfortunately for now I only have a test version for it. I call it version #0.6.
It has typesetting but misses karaoke. Also, the original Japanese needs to be removed (covered).

c. A sneak peek of Remix B version for 16 songs.
Nothing here

d. «Great Party @ Tokyo» L4Y! and an open conference.
I contacted a penpal of mine who did timing for the anime. He got the script and now he’s putting it into the subtitle form. I hope to make him finish the job in a few days.

What I ask you now guys is to lend me the translation for the 20-second long karaoke clips. You’ll save me a lot of time and effort and you’ll be credited as authors of the project.

Also, all the English text I came up with needs checking and editing. Last time when Ryuukikun-san checked the script for the anime he went through the first part, corrected some inconsistencies, then said that ‘the script was crap’ and left me with that.

I still hope that the whole set of files can finally be repacked and put to torrents at last.
I’ll make sure to keep you updated and upload the latest subtitles that I get for this.

What I forgot to include is the font package

Without the fonts you'll see anything but decent-looking subtitles.

You can find the archive here:

Updated translation for «Great Party @ Tokyo» to version #1.01.
Closer to the end, Nakamura/Haruka was referred to as "Your Excellency". This line was missing in v. 1.0.

Hello! Thanks for stopping by my thread. I'm not sure what problem you come across. I've checked every single link here and they are all functional.
The files are .mkv, .doc, .ass and .rar

If you have difficulties accessing the files by direct links, please use the 'shared folder' option (click on the link below)
http://www.sendspace.com/folder/o005ac

For doc files you need MS Office installed. And for .mkv and .ass you need some codecs like k-lite or cccp (aka the soviet union).

If something doesn't work for you, please do ask questions.

Hello again.

I've been doing some checks and re-checks and I've come up with various updated.
Here's a list of changes in my first post:

- Updated the anime subtitle file (changed one line in the karaoke. Less of a rhyme but more accurate).
- Finally got the Great Party subtitled (now you don't have to look into the text file every time, the text appears in subtitle form as you watch)
- Found a terrible mistake in Yukiho's profile translation. Now fixed.
At first I didn't quite catch it that she's one of the authors of My Shishu (as indicated in im@s wiki here, she's ''writing poems'') and not reading it. Being an author and a reader is a huge difference.

More updates are yet to come as the work is not complete.

Also I made inquires into why some of you here got a 'wrong file type' error. It appears that the problem is in the browser you're using. I'm stuck to Firefox and it works perfectly with sendspace. IE should be fine, too. For other browsers I can only recommend using external download managers.

OK, guys, all the video will be re-encoded. I consulted a person who has a knack in it and he said my settings were all wrong. Of course it produced some result but could be better. So now I'm aiming at getting a decent result, finally.

Hello again.
I'm happy to announce that I received the new video files. I'm going to upload them and present the new links.
Also, the final version will have built-in subtitles. I'm keeping them stand-alone because I'm still editing them.
For example, I've just rewatched the anime and put a few minor changes there.

But the most important thing is that the new video is of much higher quality than what I did myself. In fact, I used the same settings for all the videos and it was wrong. It turned out that each movie is of its own nature. For example, the anime has interlaced stream, great party is interlaced too, but differently. Im@s all stars and the special preview use progressive frames and are of much higher quality. The final result is also very very good.
The new videos will be much smaller while they are of much higher quality. It's like heaven and earth compared to what I'd presented to you before.
For example, the anime is now only 240 mb while Great Party takes 486 instead of over 600 megabytes giving you a much sharper picture at the same time.

Thanks for stopping by!

Sure thing, I'll upload the new version of the videos.
And I'm sorry for this delay. It's just that I expected to switch from my ADSL to a 100mbs wan connection but when I contacted the provider they said they don't feel like installing the wires to my house. Too bad, that means I'll have deal with my super-slow upload rate.

Also, I asked the person who encoded the video if the quality can be improved further. And he said yes, the new version is actually a bit messy, too. So maybe I'll have to re-encode the pack the 3rd time, so it's not the final version.

ps. The newly reencoded "great party" video has been uploaded. The rest of the movies to follow shortly.
