CSGO Gambling Scandal
« on: July 05, 2016, 06:01:15 pm »
This has been making way like a wild-fire, and it's beyond scummy as fuck. Let's bring in the context.

To summarize: Tmartn and some other Youtube heroes are owners of a notable gambling website for Counter Strike: Global Offensive skins. They made videos promoting this site by showing off the big wins they got -- but they never disclosed their relationship with it. Yeah, they brought the shadiness up to 11, not to mention having this gambling binge directed at kids to further their profits.

Beyond that, TotalBiscuit did some fierce work with putting these guys on blast. Well worth the watch.

From a legal standpoint, it all spells well-earned disaster. Anyhow, anyone up for some popcorn butter?

I heard about that scandal a few days ago...

TmarTn and Syndicate own this website and they gamble in their OWN website! This is SHADY. No owner gambles on their website.
Don't get me started on 'how I found this website' BS. It's not true, at all. They OWN it and they LIE how they founded the website. Yet on TmarTn's deleted video about CS:GO Lotto says that he owns it and it is not a secret. But, on his first video about CS:GO Lotto says he founded a website.

If you watch some of his gambling videos, you can see that his account is botted. Great, I mean great job. And now they and their website is investigated by FTC. Great and now LEGAL ACTION? This is down right ILLEGAL.

They say that people under 18 shouldn't gamble and on their privacy policy it says you must be 13+ to be on it. Young and impressionable kids, let's gamble!

I found a great video called: Deception, Lies and CS:GO:

The situation is really good explained in that video.

I already linked that in the beginning.

Meanwhile, this asshat issued a non-apology then took it down upon being called out.

People like this never change, really.

Luckily, the internet always remembers. Hell, have some Reddit while you're at it.

And the original investigator for CS:GO Lotto scandal did a response video:

Why, does he use a pet just to get a frickin' sympathy!? This is literally worst apology video.

Fucking bullshit. Twitter has shut down PostGhost.

More at the link, including why this is important for an archive site to exist so deleted tweets can be verified rather than relying on mere screenshots. It also mentions that Twitter had no issue with Politwoops, a similar deleted tweets site for political tweets.

As someone who loves CSGO for actual game itself and always felt extremely uncomfortable with the gambling aspect, I knew something like this was gonna happen and I can't help but say "I told you so" to all the people who doubted that the gambling sector was gonna go up in flames in one giant shitstorm.

I really do feel like Valve could have prevented this whole situation whole going down had they either explicitly banned gambling and created measures to block it from occurring, or provided some kind of official regulated way to do so. Then again, I'm fairly sure their laissez faire attitude wasn't born out of ignorance of the shady ass market but because they wanted to reap the profits of a gambling business without having to pay taxes or go through gambling laws and shit.

Not really much to say other than that tbh. TmarTn, ProSyndicate and their associates are shitbags and Valve's "the market will solve itself" approach to regulating Steam trades allowed a shitty grey market to become this big before it blew up in everyone's faces.
