THE iDOLM@STER 10TH Anniversary (plus personal stories about iM@S)
mariokirby:
@animagic4u
Congrats, you surpassed me by 3 years. I'm so ashamed at myself for not discovering Im@s sooner.
@MetalPredat0r
Yes! I beat you by 1 year. I guess that's why I always beat you in Mario Kart and Smash.
As for me, I'm too lazy type my reasons, so I'll just throw in my old welcome post with a few changes to fit the topic.
It started way back in 2011 when Idolm@ster 2 was just released on Xbox 360. Around the same time one of the anime news sites I visited had an article about the anime that was coming out. I was curious and checked out a couple of concerts gameplay videos based on Idolm@ster 2 (xbox 360). The songs and dance really amazed me, and some of the idols were very pretty like Miki. However, I was still hesitant since it seemed like one of those visual novels or harem animes where it’s kind of boring especially with wimpy, lame male characters.
That’s when I discovered about Touma and Team Jupiter. I was like finally I get to see some cool, tough male characters, and I really liked them. So, my decision to give the anime a try was because of Team Jupiter, and I still highly respect them even until this day even though they moved on to SideM.
When I watched the anime, I wasn’t too impressed by it. That changed until ep 13 when the idols performed Rest@rt. I was amazed at the animated dance choreography and I remember replaying that video clip for an hour straight. The anime got better, and I become interested in Chihaya after her episodes. After the anime I decided to play Idolm@ster 2 PS3. I chose Chihaya since I’ve seen story gameplay videos and loved the story and romance with her. Since then, I became an Idolm@ster fan and eventually played OFA. I also went through the mangas, drama cds, musics, movie, OVA, etc. As long as Chihaya is relevant I'll always be an Im@s fan.
I joined the forums after Idolm@ster 2 (PS3) was released since I needed help (I don't know Japanese). The people here were very helpful. After I beat Idolm@ster 2, I went into hiding until OFA was released. Then, I needed help again and the people here again were helpful. After that, I went into hiding again until people here started translating the story (especially Chihaya's). Then, I posted more thanking them for their hard work and eventually discovered there were actually cool people here (and people who like Chihaya a lot). I joined MetalPredat0r's gaming session and well here I am.
Unfortunately, I don't contribute anything to this site or the wikia.

So what are your personal iM@S stories? Please share in this thread how you got into the series and what you love most about it.

Let's see...
It's been 6 or 7 years since I got into iM@S. It started when I played Happy Dance Collection. There was an only game song (GO MY WAY!!) to dance. I liked the song, and et cetera. I got curious about that game and looked for it.

Then, I just found that video.

And there was Taiko no Tatsujin too, with shiny smile, Do-Dai, Kamisama no Birthday. And when I saw the shiny smile video (one with full version and dancing), well, I thought "Oh, I like that girl that look like a boy" (Makoto was my favorite). xD
So... if I have a good memory, it was in my 17 (7 years then), when I used to play Wii and Nintendo DS games, when the current Precure anime was Yes! Pretty Cure 5 (Yeah, I first heard about that in the same dance game, but I didn't got into magical girls anime) and the current Pokémon generation was 4. Oh, and there was a Live 4U OVA. Anyway...
And what do I love in this series? The music, dances and characters... I just fell in love for it.
But, it's kind of too bad that I only played Dearly Stars.
Kimiko:
I only got to know Idolm@ster about 2 or 3 years ago through youtube. a lot of the channels I subscribed uploaded covers or videos of kyun vampire girl and I liked that song, so I searched up the game and found it. I listend to more songs and watched the anime. By that time I also played Dearly Stars, I wanted to get the PSP games too, but I didn't get them because I didn't like the quality of the art compared to boxm@s and imas2...
Then I Found Pais Imas MMD Sub Channel on youtube, which is run by a really nice german guy. he recorded a lot of request for me and then, this january, he mailed me on skype that he had a spare ps3 because he had tried some stuff about saving his data without the restrictions of the ps3. so he had two ps3 with imas 2, ofa, shiny tv and the vocaloid games, and he sent it to me. I was so happy to finally play im@s on ps3. Because of his save data I had all dlc from 2 and up to the we have a dream catalog in ofa.
I also started playing Side M and Cinderella Girls, but I only play CG when I think about it, most of the time my mobile phone hast to use al his energy for Side M, Love Live and Scandal in the spotlight xD
My newest achievment in my Im@s collection are chihayas master artist 3, the side M CDs and an Azusa chibi~
Nayre:
Haha! I was actually hoping for a thread like this to pop up...cause I didn't have the initiative to start one myself lol.
I'm just gonna share my whole experience up until this point in time. It's not that long, I swear! XD
I was first exposed to im@s back when my sister(who was a complete weeaboo at the time(i think she might still be one at heart as she's still holding on that dream of marrying a Japanese guy one day -.-;)) kept singing and dancing to GO MY WAY!! somewhere 2008-2009ish until she got that it engraved in my memory. A few years later, when I was into Touhou and came across a vid(the one I posted in the Touhou thread a while back) of one of the characters performing the same song. It was the first time I actually gave it a good listen. I quickly became addicted to it. I remember it giving me such a unique feeling; it was extremely catchy and fun, and it made me...happy. But I didn't think much of it yet. At that point I had found out it was originally by IM@S but I still hadn't bothered to look up what it was. Fast forward another few years, I was just getting into anime, coming off the SAO train(this was around 2013), and was looking for something to watch. Stumbled upon this blog and was just blown away by many of their picks. Then I noticed Im@s being one of the runner ups that won the SoL category and was like "Oh hey, I didn't know this was an anime!" and decided to give it a watch. Tbh, I didn't like it at first since it was the first idol/cute girl show I was exposed to and thought it would be too "girly" for me to handle so I dropped it for a little while halfway through the 1st ep. It wasn't until after I had watched Madoka that I decided to give it another shot and I'm so glad I did. After just 2 episodes I was completely hooked. And at episode 10(one of my fav episodes) when they played GO MY WAY!! during the credits I broke down so hard.(I was already crying from so much joy when they managed to win the race) And by episode 13, it had become of my fav animes of all time. From there, I kept myself occupied with im@s 2 vids on youtube while updating my music playlist until the movie and OFA came out. Then I eventually built up enough courage to see live performances and finally got to see the seiyuus behind our favorite idols.(also on youtube/nico) Then CG anime came along and I was so hyped and excited(watched those PVs everyday the month before it aired and looking up potential favorites on the wiki, also listening to some of the songs), being able to actually experience it as it aired this time around. And then last month, I accidently stumbled upon this forum when looking up stuff on the wiki.
Hmmm...What I love about Im@s...
Gahdahdfa hold that thought, I gotta go for a bit...i'll finish up this post later lols.
Sorry for that mess up there, my thoughts are so unorganized x. x.
So what I love most about Idolm@ster is basically everything; the music, characters, seiyuus, fandom, they all play a part in why I love this franchise so much.
The music prolly takes the biggest chunk of the cake since I've yet to play any of the games and all I really have are the songs I listen to on a regular basis. I just love that special feeling I get from their music, especially from the 765pro songs. For me, it's their biggest selling point and what sets
them apart from all the other idol stuff out there.
This ties into the characters as they're half of the reason why the music is so enjoyable. They're the most endearing and lovable cast of characters I've ever come across, both individually and as a whole group. It's amazing how attached I am to these girls. Just as if they were real people, I care about each of them and cheer them on always for their success.
And then outside of the im@s universe we have the seiyuus who breathed life into our favorite idols and the support of the countless fans who helped them reach this far. When I first saw a video of one of the live concerts, I was opened up to a new side of im@s to enjoy and experience. I was always hesitant on watching them at first, in fear of not liking the seiyuus, or them just being flat out terrible. But they are amazing. Even though they're not really trained performers you can tell they really give it their all when they're up there on stage, that they enjoy being there and genuinely love their fans(just the fact that they've been doing this for 10 whole years is more than enough to warrant that). The fans reciprocate their love and cheer them on really hard creating this incredible synergy between them. I always get so overemotional during those cheer-heavy songs, I worry about myself in the future when I'm actually in one of those things lol. It's also fun seeing them playing up their characters and I love how some of their traits reflect on them as well like Nu's dancing skills and Asapon's playful and fun personality. I couldn't stop laughing at Asapon's Visionary. XD Furthermore, I appreciate how the fans recognize and support them as their own person. I remember when news of the engaged Akky was spread to ANN, I remember there being a bunch of people who commented "Congratz on finding your honey!", I was so touched by that. I also read stories about fellow P's and how far they'd go to help each other out. That camaraderie and sense of unity between the fans is something I admired very much and what made me want to become a part of it. It's like even if we all have different experiences with im@s we all have felt that "im@s spirit" and in a way we all share that bond. Alright, I'm just gonna stop here before I get all cheesy/emotional.
Well damn, my longest post ever. So before I end this finally, I just wanna thank everyone here just for being awesome people, that is all. I've only been here a short time, but you guys continue to make my experience with im@s fun and memorable. Also a big thanks to those who continue to fill requests for OFA and whatnot and to those who keep updating the wiki. I can't really contribute anything right now, but I really appreciate all the work you all put into the things you do. This is the first fanbase I've joined so I'm still learning some things like trying to be less annoying. ::) But I'm hoping to continue to be a fan with you all in the years to come.
Happy 10th anniversary everyone!
Vas:
Honestly, I wish I woulda known about iM@S since it first debuted back in 2005. (but then again, don't we all? :3) Especially since the 10th anniv. concert, and the serious urge to want to have been able to go see it, it'd be amazing to see the series and the girls (both the voice actors and in-game girls) grow over the past 10 years.
I learned of the series about....3 years ago, was playing a game series called Ace Combat, also made by Namco. One day I decided to look in the online store to see if there was anything in-game I wanted to buy. Turns out there wasn't anything specific. Then I saw a bunch of stuff titled "iDOLM@STER." Curious as to what this was, it was nothing more than a few in-game aircraft theme'd with the girls' image on them. (IIRC there's a wiki article about it) Having saw this, it piqued my curiosity. So I looked it up on YouTube and stuff, and like most others, saw tons of gameplay videos of the girls on stage and what-not. But I took notice of three particular girls I didn't see in the Ace Combat collaboration. Them being Miki, Takane, and Hibiki. (The collab and Ace Combat game's release was prior to the three's appearance in the series back in the first part of 1st vision) So naturally, I was curious as to who these three girls were, and sooner or later I discovered the anime. Watched it. Loved it. As time went on, I began to learn and read more about the series through the music, manga, YouTube, etc. and then a few months ago I came across this place and the rest is history.
The thing I love most about iM@S? Well, I find the series, IMO, defined in one word. "Dream." It's an amazing thing that I wish I could experience every moment of it from beginning to its inevitable end. The series lives in a world full of happiness and fantasy that pretty much resembles what I find to be a dream. I know someday the dream will end, as does the nature of all dreams, and I will be deeply saddened to know that my favorite series of all time will fade away, but nonetheless it's a great experience that I don't have a regret upon experiencing.
