ScrewAttack's Death Battle/One Minute Melee!
« on: June 05, 2015, 11:11:50 pm »
Following their recent release of Solid Snake VS Sam Fisher -- which now happens to be an all time favourite -- I felt this could be a discussion thread in itself.

For those unfamiliar, Death Battle is a video series by ScrewAttack featuring two fictional characters from separate sources with similar themes or prowess and who'd not normally meet are placed in a death match. Extensive research is also done with both combatants to best decide the winner. Another series by the same animators is One Minute Melee, which follows the similar crossover battle formula though forgoes said research for blunt results.

A playlist of all previous Death Battles can be found here; One Minute Melee's can be found here. Feel free to discuss current, upcoming and dream matches.
Suddenly, bow-wow-wow~. :3

Finally, one of these!

My brother and I LOVE Death Battle and we've seen just about every episode.

Also (spoiler for Goku vs Superman), am I the only one that wasn't pissed about Superman winning? I mean, it makes sense as to why he won, as bullshit as some people might think it is.

Definitely one of the more polarizing things I've seen, so much that the even distribution of Likes and Dislikes might as well be a Death Battle too.

Going by overall consensus, it's reasonable to see why the results were unfair; the math in the post-match results is inaccurate and there's just too many variables to consider when you pit together two God mode entities that have yet to been shown at their maximum potential in this Death Battle. Coupled with the inheritance of fanboyism, people are bound to keep this a can of worms.

Well, I love this series, so a forum is cool.

Personally I loved Rebecca Black vs. Justin Beiber because they both lose and it's so fitting. Rebecca is at least a really cute and sweet girl, and she now recognizes that Friday was terrible even though she doesn't regret it. Justin is just a pr*ck.

Fun series.  Though most of the characters I rooted for ended up losing.   :(
Didn't know about the One Minute Melee series.

My fave so far has to be the Pokemon battle royal.  It's pleasing to know that after all these years, the starter I always chose was the best overall choice.   ::)

I was cheering for Goku, but I was more surprised than disappointed by the outcome.  The one that upset me was Gaara vs Toph.  Gaara should've had it in the bag!  >:(

That one caught me off-guard too. I think I might have expected it after a certain point, but considering how crazy-good Gaara is...

Oh, this...
Somebody showed me the White Ranger X Scorpion battle. In the version which Scorpion wins, I kinda expected the White Ranger bleeding sparks. xD
Another one I saw was Sakuya X Dio and Ragna X Dante. And... just that.

Latest Death Battle -- Darth Vader VS Doctor Doom

And to none my surprise, Doom wins. He's just on such a ridiculously higher plane than Vader, even with the latter's more outrageous feats from the Expanded Universe. Doctor Doom is just straight up overpowered in his universe that the only thing literally holding him back is his arrogance. He'd still have Godhood were it not for that.

In regards to the next preview, what a way to fan the flames. Damn...

Oh well, had a feeling Doom was gonna win this one, but I was still hoping Darth would surprise us with a come from behind victory or something(cause it's Darth fricken Vader!! XD)... Why they always gotta choose 2 characters who are clearly in completely different leagues from each other.  >.<

I'm hyped to see all the fan rage on that one.

So, the recent Death Battle between Yang and Tifa has concluded. Have my thoughts...

The major thing to criticize was the No Limits Fallacy, bar none. I could get by the nepotism, but man was that a cop-out. Barring this, the choreography was dandy, as was the performance of these voice actresses. Then there's the dance club setting...

As for their portrayal, Yang's personality was pretty spot on, but Tifa seemed more like a mad dog than anything -- she'd actually be chill. Overall, the idea was nice yet it missed the mark, though the fight was fun. Yeah, she ended it with a Yang. :u

I take this into consideration.

When dealing with Yang, you have to beat her QUICK otherwise you're toast. It's like dealing with a character with rage in a fighting game, like Lucario in Smash. Unless you capitalize and kill them quick, you're gonna have a bad time.

Ack!  I completely missed out on this!  I guess I'll have to wait for youtube then.
Let's go, Yang!!  You got this!!

Whew!  That was a thing.  Well, while I'm happy about the outcome(for once XD), I agree with Deviant that it felt like a cop-out and they just didn't want to bother going too deep with it lol.(it was so short!)  I think they gave Yang a little too much credit tho when they made those serious calculations using some of the scenes in RWBY to try and gauge her endurance haha.(1400 tons? O.o)

Well, 2 things were confirmed at least.  The first is that Monty's characters really are truly overpowered. XD  The second, ScrewAttack really doesn't like FF7. x. x

All in all, this was a good tribute to Monty; he would be glad to know his legacy lives on through the inspiration his works brings to his many fans who in turn create these amazing things as well.  He truly left behind a great gift.
