Interview with GamiP
« on: October 19, 2014, 05:33:43 pm »
So the other day I found this translated interview with GamiP, the creator of the franchise. It's very short but it has a bit of discussion on female fans (who don't get mentioned a ton in discussions of the fandom), PS4 discussion, and most importantly localization talk! It's definitely worth a read... And I'm most interested in the last question.

So Shiny Festa released in English was an experiment... but the result of that experiment could only be failure because it was priced way too high. Oh well. At least they're still considering releasing an English version console title.

Some notes I took from this:

- So judging from Question 5, GamiP may or may not have plans for expanding the franchise for the next few years? That answer feels a bit odd to me.

- I gotta agree with altuixde. Shiny Festa in English is an ambitious experiment, but the price is way too high for many people to be attracted to the game. Maybe if they brought over a console game for that same price, then we might get some progress. At least they are considering it.

- I always thought of iM@S as appealing to a unisex audience, so it's nice to see GamiP acknowledge that not all fans are male.

- This one caught my attention:
"Q. How do you observe oversea opinions?

A. Through various internet communities we gather and confirm information."

...... Do you think GamiP and his team have actually been on this very forum? X)!

- I want to see a legitimate worldwide release, and I think now, with the series nearing its big 10th anniversary, this is the best time to consider such a thing. Although I don't expect any game to be released here until the PS4 game is done.

The talk of worldwide release and a console im@s game being officially translated into English is pretty exciting; I hope it really happens. "We'll be giving it plenty of development time and show you a new iDOLM@STER." Made me pretty excited too. It really makes it sound like they're going to go all out and make a lot of changes; I can't wait to see the end result of their work! Its gonna be torture waiting for the new game ;A;

The above is an astute observation in the following way: what a gamer is ready to pay for a title he knows little or nothing about versus what it is really worth. For example, Kanon is only $8 at iTunes. It was basically no risk to buy it. Having played it, I would say it's worth at least $30. But if they priced it at $30, I would not give it a chance.

I would have made a thread about it myself back when it was translated, but I didn't know where to make a thread.

There was another interview with GamiP on 4gamer. Most of it isn't imas related so I'll just translate the relevant part.

In 2015 the next Tales game will go on sale on January 22nd. On February 19th God Eater 2 will go on sale. As you can see we're opening this year at full throttle. Look forward to these games. This year is God Eater's 5th anniversary, iDOLM@STER's 10th anniversary, and Tales' 20th anniversary. This year will be filled with new beginnings for them. There will be various development on console games so look forward to it. As for the feeling the project is going for it's "the next evolution".

Well, it's a good thing I've prepped a PS4 for such an occasion. :3
