Shading wise, I use a lighter color like orange or lighter cool colors like parma violet or in this case light blue (for whites only) for lighter ones and purple or ultramarine for darker ones. For skin tones, I use the combination of brown, goldenrod, pink, peach, and light peach depending on the subject. Next, I use the colors I wish to use and use similar colors from there on. Then I use white to blend. As for Makoto's hair, I use a combination of light umber and white for highlights and black and dark brown for shading. I then use white to contrast parts of her hair.
