No, that's her Up Special, Sing. It causes people to fall asleep. Rest is the one where she falls asleep. If you time your position perfectly (you have to be SUPER close to your opponent), it'll send them FLYING!

Ugh, right, that one's even WORSE in my opinion. I mean, every other character's Up Special in Brawl gives them a bit (or a lot) of extra air that can be used for saving themselves from falling off the edge and has saved my butt a gazillion times.
Jigglypuff's?
Does nothing.

It does that? I'm going to have to try it next time I play Brawl.

I think that's mainly because the main form of recovery for Jigglypuff is combining flight with her Side Special, Punch. Yoshi is similar in that regard since he has the highest second jump in the game.

Yeah. Well, in Melee. In Brawl it just puts a flower on their head which damages them over time.

I could probably go on all day about this, but I won't for the sake of not breaking the forums. XP (I just hope I'll actually get to improve my skill, so I can at least compete against some of my other buddies with competence - fighting games, while one of my favorite genres, are also a weak point)

Rosalina is probably the newbie who's catching my eye the most, but it makes me wonder if she's meant to be Ice Climbers-lite with her Luma mechanics (I've seen no mention of the Climbers and while their mechanics were interesting it was overly crippling if you lost your partner, so with what I do know of Rosalina, I wonder if she's to evoke a similar style...).
Besides her, Villager/Wii Fit Trainer/Greninja seem worth trying out. Though I'm not too sure how to feel where Greninja's involved... I'd probably be better off waiting to make my judgement until the actual game comes out because sometimes you never know until you DO pick them up.

I do hope to see a bit more balance, though this could be just be bias since my preferred character in Brawl (Lucas) was not one of the better ones. If nothing else, may we please not have a repeat of Meta Knight?

I'm glad that transformation characters are separate as well. Much of this is likely because I preferred playing ZS-Samus and Sheik over PS-Samus and Zelda, but you didn't have a lot going for you if you only used one side (and in the case of ZS/PS, well, you'd typically only ever HAVE one side in a no-item match).

...yes, it's pretty clear where I lie on the spectrum of Fun and Glory. Though Fun isn't bad either, I just enjoy challenge. XP

Rosalina is a puppeteer type character. Ever played as Carl Clover in BlazBlue? Same thing with Rosalina and Luma. The key to mastering them involves cooperation between the two of them at the same time. The newcomers that caught my interest are Little Mac, Mega Man, and Pac-Man. Little Mac's gameplay looks very fun and he reminds me of a mix between Balrog and Dudley from Street Fighter. He IS a boxer, so its expected. Mega Man and Pac-Man are two of my more requested characters and I'm loving what's being done with them. Hey, I'm a sucker for old-school games.  ;D

I do hope to see a bit more balance, though this could be just be bias since my preferred character in Brawl (Lucas) was not one of the better ones. If nothing else, may we please not have a repeat of Meta Knight?

The development team is actually focusing quite a bit on character balancing. Namco Bandai themselves are involved with this game, given their long history of successful fighting games, and Sakurai has said that 12 people are working on balancing the game, so there's that.

The moment I go online, I'm making a Fox-only lobby on For Glory mode. X)!

Still. I like being able to rely on an Up Special to save my butt when I'm about to die. I think it has to do with play style or something.

.-. I want Melee really badly right now. XD

You should. In some cases, imo, it does some things better than Brawl. Though, given its age and console (a 2001 GameCube game), its gonna cost you an arm and a leg unless you REALLY know where to look online, so good luck.

Crap, the money issue.
Maybe our friends who used to have it still have it and are willing to part with it. I'll ask around.

Would you believe me if I said someone in our community once offered to sell one along with two controllers for $25? Oh, the woes of being broke sometimes...

For what it's worth, though, just know that time and again there'll be golden deals. It'll just need some smarts and patience, really.

If you can't afford Melee in any way, shape, or form, there's always Project M.

A video of the background of Brawl's Version of Final Destination.

Listen to the music while looking at the background.

For those that didn't catch it:
The background changes along with the music.

Pardon my "living under a rock"-ness, but...what is Project M?

That

Project M is a fan-made mod of Super Smash Bros. Brawl that was made to play similar to Melee. It includes many tweaks such as balance changes for every character, brand new moves, new stages (some based on old stages from 64 and Melee), modifications of old stages, alternate costumes for certain characters such as Mario, Link, Ness, Fox, etc., some exclusive music, and most notable of all, Mewtwo and Roy, two characters from Melee who did not appear in Brawl. It's awesome and the best part is, you don't NEED to mod your Wii in order to play the game. All you need are a Wii/Wii U, a 2GB SD Card, and a copy of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Just follow the guidelines here:
