The iDOLM@STER: SideM (mobage)
Kimiko:
I guess ryo will keep his voice actress, cause she has a very great voice range. she voiced males with deeper voices some times in animes, like sasha in seikon no qwaser (yes I am a girl and I watched and enjoyed it... calll me hentai xD)
Clear Blue:
As you may obviously know, Ishihara, one of the general directors of idolmaster left Bandai Namco.
I took the time to do a little research about him, what I found was rather intriguing. It's true that Ishihara was only scenario writer for iM@S2. But there was a lot more than that...
Everyone may assume that SideM is simply a branch from the iM@S series, and Ishinara is in charge of the Main iM@S series, Cinderella Girls and Million Live. It's like he has no tie-ins with SideM. But, that's where you're wrong.
Recall back to the very beginning, the very starting point of SideM...When iM@S2 was introduced to the new male idol unit - Jupiter.
"THE iDOLM@STER" series has always been marketed toward men. From the original iM@S arcade, XBOX360 and PSP, it has rather good results. But when it went to iM@S2, when they decided that a part of the characters were unproducible and included a new male idol unit into the mix. It caused caused a gigantic uproar amongst the fans. And thus, dubbed the very incident, the '9.18 Incident' by the fans.
This very decision was made by none other than, Akihiro Ishihara himself.
--- Quote --- "Anyway, it wasn't a secret that I was hated for this. I should have taken into account the atmosphere we created before we "kidnapped" some of the idols. This misuse of information and the accidental reversal of the meaning makes me feel guilty."
--- End quote ---
It was said the rival unit that was originally going to be in iM@S2 was supposed to be the characters from Million Live (At the time Million Live wasn't announced yet); Julia, Momoko Suou, and Reika Kitakami.
However, Ishihara thought that the male players wouldn't feel the sense of rivalry against a female rival unit. Therefore, he decided to use male characters.
Although Jupiter plays an antagonist role in iM@S2, the character setting was very complete. After the game and official radio broadcasts, fans began to acknowledge Jupiter. Their fanbase increased and with that released their first CD, 3 manga releases based on them, until 5 years later under the title 'SideM' held their first live.
The path may be long, but without Ishihara's decision. Jupiter wouldn't exist, SideM wouldn't even be a thing.

Thank you for sharing this information with us.
I didn’t get into Im@s until a few weeks after Im@2 Xbox 360 came out (so about 6 months after 9/18). I really liked Jupiter when I saw them. They were cool, talented guys. (I recognize that the producer is like a generic visual novel protagonist, so kind of a lame character. So, it was awesome, at least for me, to have some cool guys in a game like this). Besides, they redeem themselves when they quit 961, and when they physically stopped Kuroi from ruining Chihaya’s concert any further in the anime.
They may have moved on to Side M. But, on the inside I feel they’re still a part of the 765 universe kind of like Leon from OFA.

Hmm…I was thinking because of things like Uta no Prince-sama that companies wanted to grab a share of the male idol market.
MetalPredat0r:
Very interesting insight.
I also didn't know about Julia, Reika, and Momoko being the "original Project Jupiter" for iM@S 2. I knew the latter two were planned, but I wasn't sure to what extent.

You're welcome.
Jupiter never had a part in Kuroi's dirty schemes, they only wanted a fair battle. You can also see them make an appearance in Shiny Festa (Honey Sound/Harmonic Score).
I wonder if they'll ever continue with Leon as rival now...Hmm...

UtaPri has always been a major Otome/male idol producing game brand in Japan. Ever since SideM started, I've began to notice other male idol games like; iDOLISH7, Ai☆chu and Ensemble Stars! start arising from the surface. I don't know when it started, though it's gotten a lot more apparent over time.
