For a Nozomi unit, Setsuna for sure, but definitely more Chiyo than Hikari or Momoko (who only used their tough-girl attitudes to hide their inner insecurities...Momoko wanting to be noticed and Hikari with her little inferiority complex).

I gave Chiyo kind of a serious pull-no-punches attitude too as kind of an example of how experience breeds wisdom. Being an idol for five years, she knows pretty much every rope that needs to be known, but never got the chance to experience it because of all those incompetent staff members she worked under.

Hinata is special to me. I just simply had to have a disabled idol, so I turned the hyper loli trope into a girl that actually does have ADHD (loud voice, impulsive, etc). Not sure if any really do exist, but being mildly disabled myself, it does send a message.

Sorry I'm a bit distracted by Smash Bros. right now but once I get the chance I'll start on Emi's story.

Yeah, you're right, actually. That would certainly be an interesting unit. Maybe it'll be my first one when(/if?) this becomes a thing.
With Setsuna as leader because Eri Kitamura.

I like the idea of a disabled idol. It shows that just because someone is a little different, it doesn't mean they can't be talented and lovable. That's part of what I like about my Aime. And it's what makes Hinara so special and unique.

ONWARDS, AOSHIMA!!!

I haven't been keeping up with updates as much because school, but I have bad ADHD myself so it's cool to see an idol that has it! The hyperactive version of ADHD surfaces more in boys and girls tend to get the more forgetful/distracted type, but either gender having either type isn't unheard of!

Sorry I'm late guys. 3DS Smash Bros has become a major distraction for me since it came out. Anyway, on to business with ZetaPro's youngest and silliest idol!

Hanasaki Emi’s Route

Kenji first meets Emi at a nearby park. She is entertaining some kids at the playground, telling jokes, making up silly stories, and talking to her self-made frog puppet named Kerosuke. All the kids laugh and cheer, much to Emi’s delight. As Kenji catches her attention, she begins speaking to him happily using cutesy slang, which does confuse him a bit, but still makes him chuckle. He can tell Emi is a sweet, innocent child who loves to play around. Even at her age, the way she makes her audience happy gives her the potential to really become an amazing performer. When Kenji tells Emi the news of her upcoming debut, she is overjoyed. She cannot wait to spread smiles to even more people. Emi tries her best to call Kenji “producer,” but she winds up getting tongue-tied a couple of times (once on purpose, just to get Kenji to laugh). Because she finds “producer” so hard to say, Emi decides to nickname him “P-chan.” Kenji actually likes this name, believing it has a nice, cute ring to it.

Depending on who her partners are, they may be skeptical or even annoyed with Emi’s playful nature. They believe she is way too immature to be a leader. Still, Emi is determined to make any of her partners as happy as can be no matter what it takes.

While Emi’s intentions are good, she clearly does not take her job seriously. She has a tendency to improvise the lyrics of a song to make them sound cute and funny, including slurs, alternate pronunciations, sound effects, and vocalizing syllables that are meant to be sung. Sometimes she will make silly faces in order to really bring out the emotion of a song or certain lyrics, usually overdoing it. During promotion events, she will use her silly antics to try to make the staff and even the director laugh as well. During commercials, she will sometimes take Kerosuke along to back her up. Still, not everyone appreciates Emi’s approach and will sometimes ask her to calm down and take her job more seriously. Occasionally, Emi will pout whenever she does not have her way (usually towards Kenji), but she even tries to make her pouts sound cute and funny. However, she still knows what it is like to be a real performer. Some way, somehow, she always seems to have the tendency to get the job done.

After Emi’s unit’s victory over 876Pro at the White Lotus Festival, Kenji has a chat with Emi on the drive back to the office. He is really impressed that Emi is able to perform so well and please her audience. However, he also feels a bit concerned, thinking Emi may be going too far with her silly and childish approach. It’s almost as if she believes the idol world is nothing more than a game to her. Emi tells Kenji the only thing she thinks about is making her audience happy. Her parents are actually both pretty successful in the entertainment business. Her father is a stand-up comedian and her mother is a puppeteer. Emi learned a few tricks of the trade from them. Emi’s mother was the one who taught her how to make Kerosuke. It’s a pretty simple hand puppet and does not stand out in any way, but she takes a lot of pride in it. When she began to see idols on TV, her eyes were all aglow by their constant smiles and the happiness of their audience. She could tell everyone was having fun, especially the idols. Emi knew right then and there she wanted to become an idol too. However, she decided to develop a singing style all her own. As she began practicing and reading lyrics, Emi began to improvise, trying to either emphasize the feelings of a song or just to make it sound as cute and comedic as possible. Now that Emi is a tried-and-true idol, her big mission is to become Japan’s very first “improv idol” and spread smiles and laughter to everyone who watches her perform. Kenji actually finds Emi’s dream interesting and hope she sees it through. Still, he wonders if future events might eventually force her to change her approach…

Hanasaki Emi's Route, cont.

Emi still relies on her usual strategies, but her skills keep improving day by day. However, it still is not enough during the Sunny Beach Festival as her unit is singlehandedly destroyed by Maya. Emi is far from shaken by such a humiliating loss. She simply laughs it off and keeps on smiling. Maya is a little disappointed from the lack of a challenge provided by her opponents, but one she sees Emi, she considers her the most precious little thing ever. She loves her upbeat nature and infectious smile, but she admires her performer’s aura even more. Emi is really glad to meet Maya, amazed by both her incredible skill and her constant happiness. She can tell that although Maya does take her job seriously, she seems to be having fun at the same time. Maya believes she and Emi can become very good friends. However, believing they will meet again in the near future, she encourages Emi to keep improving her skills through lessons and putting her heart and soul into her work. Maya believes Emi really does have the potential to become a truly incredible idol. Emi claims she will try her best, but there was one more thing Maya left out that Emi always does—to greet every day with a smile! Maya laughs joyfully as she exits the festival grounds.

Back at the office, Emi, still aglow with happiness, tries her hardest to cheer up her partners. To her, a loss is a loss no matter how big. They can always get momentum back in their favor with successful performances in the future. However, some of her partners (depending on who they are) blame Emi for their loss. They do not approve of her “improv idol” style, believe she plays around too much during work, and is not at all fit to be a leader in general. Still, even though she acts childish every now and then, Kenji can see that Emi is steadily improving as a professional idol. Besides, he knows Emi is right. Losses happen and the idol world is full of so much overwhelming talent like Maya and the idols of 765Pro. Forgetting about the past and looking towards the future while living in the present seems like the unit’s best hope in bouncing back. Some of the idols cannot believe their producer would take the side of a child, but Kenji has somewhat of a gut feeling that Emi knows what she is doing. That smile and enthusiasm she has seem almost eternal. Who knows…maybe she could set a good example for some of the more overly-serious idols? Emi thanks Kenji for standing up for her. Her partners start to feel that perhaps they do not trust her as much as they should, so they promise to put a little more faith in her.

As Maya informs her producer of her latest victory, she tells him her opponent was a real hoot and had tons of fun chatting with her. The producer, however, does not take Emi seriously at all. Maya’s opponent was but a child...she is hardly a threat.

As Emi predicted, the units optimism and enthusiasm returned after a couple of successful outings. However, two weeks after the Sunny Beach Festival during a meet-and-greet, one quirky fan appears to have taken a rather peculiar interest in Emi. Claiming he has wanted to meet her for the longest time, he takes Emi’s hand and walks her over to a large tree nearby. Once under the tree and seemingly away from the public eye, the fan proceeds to caress her and tell her she has the cutest smile he has ever seen, wondering how she almost always stays so happy. Emi laughs as his hand strokes her face, thinking it tickles. Not knowing what to do, Emi decides to tell him one of her silly stories for laughs. Kenji notices she has been missing for a while and begins searching for her. Once he finds her underneath the tree, he is creeped out by the fan’s advances towards her and angrily tells him to back off. With his cover blown, the fan hastily flees the scene in frustration hoping to avoid getting caught by authorities. Emi wonders why Kenji scared the fan away, thinking he was just an ordinary fan who enjoyed her improv idol routine and sought to entertain him like everyone else. Kenji informs Emi that the man might have wanted her for more than just a laugh, considering how he tried to take her away and the way he consoled her. He warns her to be careful of that man, thinking he might be some sort of creeper. Later on during a signing event, the same fan sneaks up behind Emi and tries to lift her skirt to get a good view of her panties (which happen to be the white teddy bear print variety). Emi hears him giggle, turns around, and asks the man if he might have lost something. She then recognizes him as the same guy who took her underneath the tree and “tickled” her, which gives her a bit of a shock. Some of Emi’s true fans are disgusted by the man’s actions. With the situation growing worse, he proceeds to wrap his arms around Emi and caress her, claiming to be her father. Emi then tells the other fans that the man is not her father. “He not even Emi’s uncle!” The fans proceed to chase the creeper away, calling him a pervert and a lolicon. Kenji hears the commotion and asks Emi what’s going on. When Emi tells him what happened, Kenji gets worried and thinks about cancelling the event to prevent further mishap. However, Emi wants to keep it going, not at all willing to disappoint her true fans. Kenji reluctantly decides to comply with Emi’s request, but asks Kaito to beef up security so the creep does not bother Emi again. Emi regains her contagious smile as the event proceeds as planned.

Back at the office, Kenji tells the President the news. The President feels pretty horrible, hoping Emi might not have to put up with lolicons like that one man. He and Kenji worry, not wanting Emi to put up with the evils of the world at such a tender, innocent age. Emi happily tells them not to worry about her…she’s just fine. She does admit the man from earlier gave her a bit of a scare, but that’s all in the past now. Besides, she knows her real fans love and care for her too much. Emi believes she is not in any sort of trouble. Kenji grows concerned and hopes and prays that Emi is right and not just being too optimistic…

Sorry if updates have been a little slow. I recently landed a full-time temp job (yay!). Don't worry, it will not keep me away from my hobbies! Besides, my weekends are usually free.

Hanasaki Emi's Route, cont.

As the weeks go by, Emi tells Kenji she has been receiving numerous emails from the same address almost daily, most of which praise her, flatter her, or even ask when her next public appearance is. In fact, the most recent one asks her when her next gravure photoshoot will be published and wonders if she will wear a cute bikini during the shoot. Kenji is slightly disgusted by the news. Believing the one who sent the emails is trying to stalk her, he tells Emi to block the address. Emi does not quite know how, but she will make sure to ask her parents to do so. Kenji suspects the same guy who harassed her at the earlier meet-and-greet might be up to his old tricks again, but Emi believes it could be someone else. There are so many “fish in the ocean,” the chances of the spammer being the same lolicon as before are slim to none.

One week after Emi’s unit encounters 961Pro/Ryuuguu Komachi, Emi decides to hold a barbeque and game event in a large park so she can play and have fun with her fans especially with her younger fanbase (she has gotten the attention and adoration of numerous children since her debut). During the event, everything seems to be sunshine and daisies for Emi as she plays every game available and takes some time to tell silly jokes and stories to some of her fans. All of their smiles and laughter satisfy and delight Emi. Later, a mysterious man dressed as a cute dinosaur mascot appears and proceeds to push and shove fans out of the way in order to get to Emi. Emi does not remember inviting a mascot character, but thinks he looks adorable and is happy to be able to play with him. All of a sudden, the character’s true personality begins to show as he begins forcibly monopolizing Emi’s time and repeatedly touches her, even going as far as feeling up her skirt. Emi’s joy quickly turns to fear as she feels highly uncomfortable with the mascot’s sudden advances and overly-intense kindness. Kenji suddenly hears a familiar voice emit a very shrill scream and immediately rushes to the scene. Kenji orders the mascot to quit harassing Emi, but the mascot shoves Kenji to the ground, puts his foot on his chest, and tells him to stay out of his way, much to Emi’s shock. As the mascot makes his way back towards Emi, Kenji stands back up and angrily tackles the mascot to the ground, knocking off his mask in the process. Kenji’s fears are confirmed…the perverted mascot character is revealed to be the exact same man who harassed Emi in two earlier events. Kenji asks the stalker about his motives—about why he was so desperate to be with Emi and why he would always get up close and in her face. The stalker stutters a bit, but he eventually lashes out at Kenji in order to desperately defend himself, stating he has come from all the way across the country just to meet her. He buys all her merchandise and tries his best to attend every single one of Emi’s live performances. It also turns out he was the one who sent Emi all of those rapid-fire emails. He feels as though he had a right to spend more time with her than any of her other fans. Kenji is pretty much convinced the man’s perverted actions were intentional and he has no desire to reflect on his wrongdoings. To prevent him from causing Emi any more harm, Kenji bans the man from all of Emi’s future events and will inform the President of ZetaPro of his actions. “Now get out!” The lolicon runs away defeated and frustrated. Emi quickly clings to Kenji, trembling with fear. For the first time since she was an infant, tears roll down her cheek. With her voice beginning to break a little, Emi tells Kenji how scared she was of that man. No matter how much she begged him to stop, he just kept touching her. Kenji comforts her and assures her everything is fine now. That man will not be bothering her ever again. The whole event was set up so that Emi and her fans could have a good, fun time together…not to attract lolicons. Believing crying does not become of Emi, Kenji decides to revive her smile by resuming the festivities. A couple of Emi’s younger fans even try to cheer her up by imitating Kerosuke’s voice. Emi tries her best to have fun, but is still trembling a bit from her experience with the lolicon.

Next week, the President informs Kenji and Emi of a recent email he received from Emi’s parents. They have heard the news of the barbeque incident and are highly concerned and disgusted with their daughter’s safety. Believing ZetaPro is taking advantage of Emi’s innocence and promoting her as lolicon bait, they plan to pull her from the idol world next week. Emi does not want to quit being an idol. Despite the numerous incidents with that one creepy man, she has had so much fun bringing smiles and laugher to all of her fan as a special improv idol. As long as there is still sadness in Japan, her quest is far from over! The President replies to the email, assuring Emi’s parents that they were trying to promote Emi as a cute, innocent, funny child idol so she could have a healthy growing experience. The President, Kenji, and even Emi herself never wanted to promote her as a sexy loli icon. They made their rules with interacting with Emi as clear as possible. Some people, be they lolicons or common perverts, will get out of hand now and then. This happens to numerous idols regardless of age or bust size. Rest assured the stalker from before has been taken care of and is no longer a threat to Emi’s safety. Nearly all of her real fans follow the rules as well as their own morals…these are the people that truly love their sweet little comedic cherub. As Emi heads off to work that week, she hopes her parents understand. That evening, Emi receives some fantastic news. Her parents responded back and have decided to allow her to continue performing. Emi is so delighted!

On the day of the IU preliminaries, Emi wants to try to brighten the tense atmosphere by working her magic, putting on an overly cute and silly display. Kenji finds her and takes her back to her group. He understands she wants to have everyone smile and have fun, but she is just being a slight distraction right now. All of those idols need some time to focus here. The IU is one of the country’s biggest idol tournaments and so many competitors have been working long and hard to attain the status of “top idol.” Once ZetaPro finds out they have been placed in the same competition block as NAZO, Emi and Maya are overjoyed to be able to see each other again. After sharing a bit of a laugh, Kagura snaps Maya out of her happy moment and asks her to focus on the task at hand. To her all that child is doing is trying to distract her. Kagura then turns to Emi, telling her she is not in the playground anymore. She faces three big-league idols. She really wants to teach her that nothing will come of her foolish games. Emi is not sure how well her unit will fare, but tells them to go in with a smile and just have fun. That’s all that matters to her. Much to everyone’s surprise (and Emi’s excitement), ZetaPro passes the audition, but places a distant second to NAZO. Maya is highly impressed with Emi’s progress. Even though Emi may believe this is all fun and games to her, she is beginning to realize her true potential as a performer. Her skills have improved drastically since their last encounter. Kagura cannot understand why Maya praises Emi so much and angrily silences Maya. Emi is just a child. She has no real talent. She never takes her job seriously. She has no ambition other than spreading happiness, which is highly absurd to Kagura. Goddesses like the members of NAZO never lose to little kids and should never take them seriously. Children should not even be idols at all. Kagura then turns to Emi, hoping Emi enjoys her fifteen minutes of fame because unless she grows up and takes her idol job seriously, her career will ultimately come crashing down hard. Emi happily tells Kagura she will try her best. Kagura gets annoyed with Emi’s contagious happiness and tells her partners to get away from her before they start uncontrollably smiling, laughing, and talking with cutesy slang. Just before she exits the venue, Maya turns around and talks to Emi. She tells her that while she is doing very well, the gap between them is still immense. Maya urges Emi to keep on practicing and getting better, eagerly anticipating the next time they will be able to compete against each other. “Oh, and be sure to keep smiling too,” she laughs, remembering what Emi told her before.

Hanasaki Emi's Route, conclusion

Over the next few weeks, Emi spends a bit of quality time with her partners. While she learns some new tips and tricks on how to practice and perform more efficiently and gains some extra knowledge of the true nature of the idol world (after learning about one of its horrible truths the hard way), she teaches others to keep on smiling and have fun doing what they do. It’s a win-win for Emi and her partners. Later on, when ZetaPro receives a writ of challenge from NAZO, Emi believes Maya wants to see just how much she has improved. She is so excited to see her again. Unfortunately, not only does she not get enough time to chat with her friendly rival, the performance gets cancelled midway due to a pyrotechnic malfunction. Yamato appears to pick up NAZO and hopefully break Emi’s spirits. “Dun-dun-dunnn! The big bad guy appears!” The fact that ZetaPro hired a 10-year-old girl as an idol is proof of how low middle class companies will sink just to earn a buck. Kids should not be idols at all. They just don’t have any raw talent to be able to compete at a professional level. Yamato believes Emi wanted to become an idol to wear provocative outfits, appeal to pedophiles, and show everyone how “grown-up” she has become. She should do ZetaPro and the idol world a favor and quit her career before something horrible happens to her. Besides, Emi’s concept of an “improv idol” is simply absurd. It basically combines idol-like performances with immature comedy into one big sloppy mess. It is only proof that she thinks this is all just a game to her. Emi is not even shaken from his threats and maintains her usual upbeat self. Her nearly unbreakable smile disgusts Yamato, claiming she is just way too happy for her own good. Kenji defends her, claiming that although she hardly takes her job seriously, she keeps getting better and better as a performer. Her style may be a bit different, but she usually performs very well at this level. Yamato scoffs at Kenji’s defense, claiming he is just spoiling the little girl and has been captivated by her innocent childlike charm. It’s almost as if he is becoming a lolicon for her already. Kenji retorts, claiming he never had any thoughts like that about Emi at all…it’s against his personal principles. Yamato promises to prove Kenji and ZetaPro the error of their ways by crushing them in the IU with NAZO’s full power.

On the day of the IU finals opening ceremony, Emi overhears a conversation between Maya and Yamato. Maya is really eager to see what kind of competition lies in store for her in the finals. She has seen a significant improvement in Hinata’s talents since the IU preliminaries and looks forward to facing her in the final stretch of the tournament. It would be wise for NAZO not to underestimate her. Yamato is angered by her statement. Being around Hinata has made her soft. ZetaPro is the enemy. They hire disabled hacks like Hinata into the idol industry. If Maya really wants to master her dancing styles, she has to have the drive to be the very best…to win by any means necessary…to destroy all enemies. He really doesn’t want to have to fire her after she was able to use her earnings to settle in a nice quiet home away from her old crime-infested slum of a neighborhood full of horrible memories. Maya apologizes and promises him she will win the IU. Emi cannot believe that despite Maya’s outgoing personality, she hides such a tragic past. Emi decides to go over to Maya and cheer her up. Maya is surprised to see Emi like this. Emi claims she could not help overhearing Maya’s chat with Yamato and could not bear seeing her friend and rival look so sad. She once had to put up with a creepy lolicon stalking her during her career, but that didn’t stop her from having fun with being an improv idol. Maya’s loss of her parents and rough neighborhood shouldn’t stop her from dancing either. Emi tells Maya to turn her frown upside-down so they can both go into the IU finals with a smile and have the time of their lives no matter how they finish. Emi proceeds to tell her a joke, which gets Maya laughing. With her happiness restored, Maya tells Emi she may be right. She still does not want to lose, but asks Emi to have fun and do her best if they do happen to face off in the final stretch of the tournament. “May the best idol win,” she says as she turns around and heads back to Yamato’s limo.

After NAZO defeats Ryuuguu Komachi in the semifinals, Yamato expresses his disapproval of Ami being an idol, claiming she is the reason Ryuuguu Komachi lost. The way she promotes herself disgusts him and proves that 765Pro is just another one of those common-class companies who use dirty tactics to win, including producing lolicon bait. Ritsuko backs him off, claiming that Ami (and Mami for that matter) have come a long way since her debut. Even separated from her twin, she has become a very important member of Ryuuguu Komachi. Sure she still acts childish every now and then, but she always seems to find a way to get the job done.

With the situation growing more desperate, Yamato sends an email to a suspicious address. He plans to ruin Emi once and for all.

The next day a mysterious figure begins raiding ZetaPro’s dressing room. When the time comes to get dressed, the ZetaPro idols notice their room is a huge mess. What’s worse, Emi discovers her outfit is missing. When Kenji hears the news, he begins to worry. Security should have been beefed to the maximum, yet they somehow manage to let a vandal slip past them undetected. Emi confidently her stage outfit shouldn’t have gone very far and goes back into the dressing room to double check. All of a sudden, the figure from earlier, holding her stage outfit, catches her attention. Emi is shocked beyond belief to find out that the figure is really the twisted lolicon who stalked her before! He stole Emi’s stage outfit because of its “heavenly aroma.” It smelled particularly sweet. Frightened, Emi tries to run for the door, but the stalker blocks the way, locks the door, and grabs her tightly, claiming he will return Emi’s outfit if she spends some “quality time” with him. Outside, Kenji hears a familiar voice screaming and frantically heads back to the dressing room. He tries to open the door, but it is locked from the other side. The lolicon has stripped Emi of her clothes and is rubbing all over her body, even down her underwear. Emi is helpless, shivering, and crying, too scared to act back. Hearing the commotion on the other side, Kenji pounds the door hard and threatens to knock it down, but the stalker threatens to slit Emi’s throat if he does. Emi tries to tell Kenji the man really does not have a knife on him, but she is quickly silenced by the desperate lolicon. Kenji believes all hope is lost, but then he starts thinking. What would Emi do? Even in the worst-case scenario, Emi would always stay happy and optimistic. When she thinks the best will happen, it usually happens. Suddenly, a group of police officers come to Emi’s rescue, asking Kenji to step aside. Just as the lolicon is about to drop Emi’s panties, the police batter the locked door down and catch him red-handed, much to his shock. Emi is relieved as the officers slap the cuffs on the creeper, take him away, and give Emi back her stage outfit. Kenji cannot believe who the culprit was. He thought the creeper learned his lesson, but he let his dirty thoughts get the better of him once again and wound up overstepping his bounds, even after he banned him from all of Emi’s future events. Emi runs up to Kenji and hugs him, crying tears of joy. It was one of the most horrifying experiences she ever went through. However, even during all of that harassment, she kept looking up and thinking a miracle would happen…and it did. Kenji tells her he thought the exact same thing, knowing her and her boundless optimism all too well. Emi feels slightly embarrassed with Kenji seeing her with crying…tears do not become of her. Now that the nightmare is all behind her, she plans to get her head back in the game, perform like she has never performed before, and turn Tokyo Dome into a sea of smiles and laughter. Kenji laughs a bit and shields his eyes (Emi is still in nothing but her underwear), telling her to get dressed and meet back at the stage. Emi wipes her tears and joyfully gets herself prepared.

Just before the performance, Yamato is both shocked and annoyed that Emi has quickly and miraculously restored her bubbly, silly improv idol persona. Emi tells Yamato that even after what she has been through her smile will never be broken as long as clouds of sadness still loom over Japan. Maya speaks up and tells ZetaPro what happened. Yamato knew that this particular lolicon had a thing for Emi and has troubled her in past events. Posing as his father, Yamato sent the lolicon an email, apologizing for his harsh treatment of him, removing his ban on attending Emi’s events, and (to show there are no hard feelings) allows him to attend Emi’s performance at the IU finals as a VIP. Yamato also altered the schedules of the guards and stage crew, replacing them with his own workers, allowing the lolicon to breach security. Yamato planned to use the creeper to permanently destroy Emi’s happiness and innocence and keep her from performing that evening, thus giving NAZO a surefire victory. Not only that, but Yamato also wanted to teach Emi that kids should not be idols and that the whole concept of a childish comedian-idol hybrid is ridiculous. Besides, the idol world is cruel, full of sick-minded freaks (like that stalker) who claim to be their fans but want them for more than just their works. Wanting to face Emi’s unit at their full strength, Maya called the police to rescue Emi and foil her producer’s twisted plans. Yamato cannot believe one of his idols would backstab him, but Kenji finds it even harder to believe that his respected rival would pull such an underhanded move as to send a lolicon after Emi. Emi claims the idol world is far from cruel. In fact, despite all the hardships she has been through, it’s been tons of fun! Now that her smile shines brighter than before, she is ready to show everyone what a playful improv idol can really do!

ENDING

A couple of weeks after the IU finals, Emi invites Kenji into the practice room of ZetaPro to show him something special. The whole concept of Emi’s unique performance style has become intriguing nationwide. In fact, she is now teaching a couple of apprentices—the twin idols Ami and Mami Futami, who have both been amazed by her super-cute performances—in the improv idol style. As the twins sing through some lyrics, Emi tells them to emphasize the feelings of the lyrics. If not, just add some slurs and make them sound as cute as possible, but not too cute. Kenji laughs at the sight…everyone just looks so cute performing like this! Emi tells Kenji that even though she might not appear to be serious at all during big concerts, it was thanks to the time she spent with him and the other two idols that she learned so many new tips and tricks on how to be a better performer. Taking all that in mind as well as a couple of ropes she learned from her parents, she has truly become the idol she always wanted to be. However, she will not stop there. Even if the sadness in Japan is banished, smiles aren’t forever. Emi will continue being a special improv idol to continue to rain down smiles, laughter, and inspiration to the people of Japan!

During the credits, Emi, Ami, and Mami play through what they have practiced—a super-cutesy, silly, improvised version of Nana Iro Button.

Whew! Five more to go!

Isshiki Nagisa’s Route

Kenji first encounters Nagisa at the practice room rehearsing one of her cheers from school. Kenji can really see she has a lot of energy and is pretty skilled as a dancer and cheerleader. However, he never expected her to look so unique with her sand-colored hair and skin the hue of amber. Putting his curiosity behind him, he opens the door and says hello. Nagisa puts her pom-poms down and turns to Kenji, happy and eager to see a new face and make a new friend. Once she hears she will soon hold a mic rather than pom-poms, she knows right away her debut is near. Nagisa jumps for joy and hugs Kenji, looking forward to working with her new producer. She may look different, but Kenji figures she’s just as cute and perky as other girls her age.

While Nagisa is eager to take lessons and meet with her two partners, she begins to show slight doubt just before her unit is set to audition for the first time. Nagisa asks Kenji if the judges will disfavor her because of her foreign looks. She is in fact half-Brazilian. Her darker skin color is natural…she did not get it from a tan. Kenji assures her that while their standards are high sometimes, bias because of skin color or foreign blood is almost always frowned upon among nearly all judges. If anything, it will be her talents and determination that will ultimately speak for themselves. Nagisa then wonders…if these judges really are that biased, there is no way that her biggest inspiration, Hibiki Ganaha, would have passed her first audition and become as popular as she is today. With her confidence restored, Nagisa passes her debut audition with flying colors.

Later on, Kenji notices Nagisa always wearing a white seashell around her neck even during promotions and live concerts. Nagisa has always loved the beach ever since she was a baby. When she was eight years old, she found this particular shell that just washed ashore. Feeling something special in the shell, she picked it up and made a necklace out of it. Ever since, Nagisa wears it everywhere she goes as somewhat of a good-luck charm. Her friends, especially those in her school’s cheerleading club, love her seashell necklace so much she eventually began making her own shell charms for them. Kenji is glad she has something special she can hold on to. Nagisa soon wants to make some necklaces for Kenji and her partners as well, knowing they will soon become even more special to her than her own lucky shell. The following week, Nagisa arrives with self-made shell necklaces for everyone, hoping they bring them as much good luck as hers.

One week after Nagisa reaches Rank E, she arrives to practice in her cheerleading outfit. After she is finished with work today, she will head to school to cheer in a basketball exhibition match. Ever since Nagisa watched her elementary school’s cheerleading club perform during a sports festival one day, she was amazed by their abilities and decided to try to join herself. Nagisa had the talent and energy to pass on her very first audition. Three years later, Nagisa still loves to cheer. She became one of the club’s most talented members. She has made several new friends. Her happiness and enthusiasm delighted and inspired her fellow cheerleaders, the teams she cheered for, and the audience alike. One day when her middle school cheerleading club went out for a beach party, Nagisa saw Hibiki giving a live concert nearby. She was dazzled by Hibiki’s singing, dancing, smile, and energy, but was more amazed by the excitement of her audience. All of the other cheerleaders suggest Nagisa become an idol too. She’s a great dancer and has the ability to really get the crowd fired up just like Hibiki did with her audience. In fact, some of them even think Nagisa and Hibiki are almost alike. Inspired by the concept of building on her talents and using them to the fullest for the enjoyment of others, Nagisa studied Hibiki’s performances and decided to audition with ZetaPro, passing on the first attempt. Kenji is impressed. To him, Nagisa really has the talents and personality to become both an excellent cheerleader and idol. Still, Nagisa seems to have a different look of determination in her eyes. It’s almost as if she is hiding her true motives…

Emi~~~

Oh my gosh she's so cute. XD I just love her! You keep being an improv idol, Emi! Spread smiles to the world! I wish more people were like her.

But I'm just honestly disgusted by what that creeper did to her. I just can't even believe people stoop that low. Even though it's just a game, it really just bothers me, so much, because this happens in real life too and it is NOT OK. Ugh.

ONWARDS, AOSHIMA!!!

I knew Emi with her unique performing style would become a hit. Still, I said before, "you're probably going to hate me for what I'm about to do to her..." using ZetaPro's youngest idol to spark awareness of a sad truth...lolicons. They're out there, even in real life.

Isshiki Nagisa's Route, cont.

Nagisa keeps improving her skills and is doing a great job as an idol. However, it is not enough during the Sunny Beach Festival as her unit is singlehandedly defeated by Maya. Maya is a little disappointed from the lack of a good challenge, but she finds Nagisa exotic and absolutely adorable. Her outgoing nature, high energy, and talents in cheerleading and dancing give her the potential to really become a top-class idol. Still, Maya believes Nagisa’s skills could still use some polishing. Maya asks Nagisa to continue doing her best in her lessons and performances so she can be ready for their next encounter. Nagisa may look different, but she is too cute and talented to let what others say stop her from doing what she loves. Nagisa is so glad to meet Maya, admiring both her amazing dancing abilities and her outgoing personality.

Back at the office, Nagisa is quick to brighten the mood of the unit once again, especially after she hugs her partners and Kenji. Nagisa says she has cheered for the losing team several times, but they were fighters to the end, even against seemingly unbeatable teams. Much like her school’s sports teams after a big loss, Nagisa’s unit should just shake it off and move on. Moping about it will not get them anywhere. Kenji and the other two idols (even a couple of the more serious or emotional ones) seem to agree with her statement.

The unit regains its strength after a couple of successful outings. The night after Nagisa’s unit faces 961Pro/Ryuuguu Komachi, Nagisa happily walks out of the office and heads for home, hoping to rest up after a long day. Suddenly, she is ambushed by a pair of bullies who have apparently caught wind of her origins. Believing that “dirty” Brazilians should not be idols (and should not belong in Japan for that matter), they torment her and threaten her to stay off the stage for good. Kenji suddenly hears the commotion and manages to scare the bullies away. Poor Nagisa was almost scared out of her wits when she saw the bullies’ piercing eyes and heard their hateful statements. She was also left with a hand print across her left cheek after being slapped. Nagisa hugs Kenji, sobbing and trembling in fear. Kenji really wants to squeal to the police on them, especially after they badly hurt Nagisa physically and emotionally, but he is glad that she is safe. To make sure her the rest of her journey home is a safe one, he offers her a ride home with him and Kaito. As Nagisa gets into the van, she gives Kaito some directions and tells Kenji everything that happened. She never expected to be harassed by racists during her idol career. Kenji assures her that he will not let anything like that happen to her again. Besides, there are thousands of people who love and support her whether they have known her as a cheerleader or an idol. She should not let one or two people spoil her high spirits. Once Kaito arrives, he is surprised by the sight—Nagisa lives in an orphanage. Nagisa tells Kenji and Kaito this has been her home for almost 12 years now. She was born in Hiroshima from a Japanese father and a Brazilian mother. Two years ago, the manager of the orphanage told Nagisa the story of her parents. Her mother fled to Japan after years of harassment, assault, torment, and near rape from cruel men in Brazil. However, jobless and strapped for cash, the only way she could escape her hellhole was to desperately stow away on a plane to Tokyo. Once she arrived, she met with a fisherman in Hiroshima who loved the sea and its natural beauty. Contrary to the other men she encountered in the past, this man was very kind and caring for her despite her differences. He knew she has suffered so much and was willing to do whatever he can to ease her pain and show her true happiness. They eventually got married and gave birth to Nagisa. The couple couldn’t be any happier. When Nagisa was only five months old, everything changed. Word that Nagisa’s mother immigrated to Japan illegally spread too far. A group of protestors had the authorities capture Nagisa’s mother and deport her back to Brazil. Risking everything to save the love of his life, Nagisa’s father tried to do his best to stop the authorities, but angry activists mercilessly beat him to death, believing he was corrupt and stupid to fall for the spell of a filthy “witch.” However, Nagisa was safe in the house and out of the protestors’ sights through the whole affair. Because she was legalized as a Japanese citizen, the authorities decide to send her to an orphanage in the capital region. Years have passed and no one has even thought about adopting her. Some prejudiced people thought she was a demon born from the blood of a “witch” and refused to adopt a “dirty” half-Brazilian child. However, Nagisa did not seem to mind. She was still a very happy, upbeat girl with a ton of energy. She especially loved the beach (possibly because she was born very close to one) and doing cartwheels. Even after she heard the truth about her parents, she quickly got over the pain and did not change very much. Once she was allowed to go to school, she developed a passion for cheerleading, which later evolved into her desire to become an idol. Nagisa never knew idols were professional and get paid for their work. With that in mind and believing her mother is still out there waiting to see her growing daughter once again, Nagisa hopes to earn enough money to be able to bring her mother back to Japan as a legal citizen. Kenji can hardly believe that underneath Nagisa’s cheerful nature lies such a painful history, but he is still glad that Nagisa continues to look forward while still caring about her mother even though she’s more than an ocean away right now. Nagisa thanks Kenji and Kaito for the ride. Kenji waves to her as she walks through the door. Nagisa waves back with both hands just before it closes.

Isshiki Nagisa's Route, cont.

Nagisa and the others were not alone during their conversation at the orphanage. Yamato’s agents have heard everything and immediately send their hot scoop too gossip columnists. “Not only is Nagisa half-Brazilian, but she’s the daughter of a deported illegal immigrant! Is her mother really a prostitute? Is Nagisa herself secretly a prostitute too? Are her motives impure?” Some who read the articles are disgusted and shower Nagisa with snide and even racist comments, much to her chagrin. However, she soon recalls what Kenji told her. While nuts like them do exist, she should not let them bother her at all…they are not worth her time. Besides, these gossip magazines are full of bull anyway. There are many, many more people out there who adore heer and what she has brought to the industry. For every fan she loses, she gains around ten more. Nagisa forgets ever reading those articles and happily continues her work as usual.

On the day of the IU preliminaries, Nagisa is anxious to see Maya and Hibiki again, knowing they are both bound to participate in a tournament this big. Luckily, Hibiki and the other members of the revived Project Fairy are just a couple of spots in front of ZetaPro. Nagisa gleefully says hello to her big inspiration. Hibiki finds Nagisa beyond adorable. Once she hears Nagisa’s story of the time she saw her in concert and decided to become an idol, Hibiki is so glad she became such a big influence on her. She wishes Nagisa the best of luck with IU as she heads back to her units spot in line. Takane seems to sense something special in Nagisa. She may look a bit different from the other competitors, but her spirit seems very strong, possessing skills and motives to back it up. Takane can tell Nagisa is playing for keeps. Later on after registering, ZetaPro suddenly gets placed in the same competition block as NAZO. Nagisa and Maya are overjoyed to be able to see each other again. Maya cannot wait to see just how much Nagisa has improved as an idol, especially now that she faces NAZO at its full strength. Kagura and Himeko angrily silence maya, unable to believe she is acting so nicely to the enemy. They must mercilessly destroy all enemies and teach them their place. As NAZO heads back to prepare for their audition, Maya worriedly looks back at Nagisa. Himeko tells Maya to focus and not give a care about that “dirty witch.” After the audition, Nagisa’s unit manages to pass, but they still place a distant second to NAZO. Maya is very impressed with Nagisa’s accomplishment. She can tell she has really come a long way. However, the gap between them is still pretty big. Knowing Nagisa can become even better than she is right now, Maya encourages her to keep on going and not let any biased people get in her way. She’s too good to get dragged down by such hateful comments. Himeko suddenly gets up in Nagisa’s face, telling her that a half-breed like her should not be an idol at all. How Nagisa became nationally popular is beyond Himeko. Perhaps she tricked overly soft and sympathetic pansies to be her fans. She’s a prostitute just like any full-blooded Brazilian woman who sneaks into Japan. Himeko threatens Nagisa to give up her ambitions and idol career if she knows what’s good for her. All of a sudden, who should come to Nagisa’s defense but Hibiki?! She tells Himeko to quit picking on Nagisa. She pretty much knows that Nagisa would never use dirty tactics to promote herself. Earlier in line, Hibiki saw the passion in Nagisa’s eyes. She truly is a genuine idol. Her origins had nothing to do with it. Before Himeko can retaliate, Kagura tells her they have to leave and meet with their producer. Himeko warns ZetaPro that NAZO will return to teach them the error of their ways. Nagisa thanks Hibiki for standing up to her. Hibiki tells Nagisa she has been very impressed with what she has done so far for the idol world. It’s not too often a relatively new idol trio is able to pass the IU preliminary audition. Besides, Nagisa’s differences had nothing to do with her current success. Being from Okinawa, Hibiki can relate to being a bit different, especially adjusting to life on the main islands. She can almost feel that she and Nagisa are pretty much alike in terms of talents and personality. Hibiki really has faith in Nagisa and knows her fans and especially her producer have even more faith in her. Before she sets off with the rest of Project Fairy, Hibiki wishes Nagisa the best of luck in her future endeavors. Nagisa feels so special and excited to be able to be recognized by her big inspiration. Kenji assures her that what Hibiki told her was true. It does not matter that her mother was illegal. Nagisa is truly becoming such an amazing idol. Her mother would be so proud of her, wherever she is. Nagisa hugs Kenji happibly before heading back to the office.

Over the next few weeks, Nagisa spends some time bonding with her partners. While learning new practice techniques and customs of the outside world (having lived in an orphanage throughout most of her life outside of school), she takes her new friends to the beach and shows them how special it is to her. Once ZetaPro is challenged by NAZO to compete at the Harvest Moon Festival, Nagisa cannot wait to show Maya everything she has learned since their previous encounter. Unfortunately, both performances are cancelled due to a pyrotechnic malfunction. Once Yamato arrives to pick up NAZO, he proceeds to mock ZetaPro. The fact they hire “dirty witches” like Nagisa is proof of how low middle-class companies will sink to make a living. Who in their right mind takes a filthy orphaned urchin off the streets and makes her into a professional idol? ZetaPro must have been easily fooled by Nagisa’s sob story. Maybe Nagisa used some kind of black magic on them and her fans. Besides, even being half-Brazilian, she is a total prostitute just like her illegal mother. Speaking of her mother, Yamato tells Nagisa she is fighting for a worthless cause. Her mother is no longer around to receive any more of her daughter’s paychecks. Nagisa gasps. Could something terrible have happened to her mother after she was sent back to Brazil? She cannot and will not believe what Yamato stated to be true! Kenji comforts her, claiming that Yamato is only trying to get her goat. Yamato warns Nagisa to stay out of NAZO’s way and give up on the IU and her idol career for the greater good of the idol industry. Nagisa is worried sick. She wants to believe that Kenji is right and Yamato really is bluffing, but the very thought of losing what little family she has left is leaving a knot in her stomach…

Wow, over 7000 views! ;D

Isshiki Nagisa's Route, conclusion

Next week, Nagisa is nowhere to be found. She does not show up to work and does not answer her phone calls. The President finds this sudden absence a little peculiar. Nagisa is normally early to arrive and overflowing with positive energy. Fearing something might have happened to her, Kenji and Kaito decide to head for the orphanage to find out what’s wrong. Once there, Kenji finds the manager and asks her if Nagisa is safe and able to talk now. The manager does not suspect Nagisa might not be in the mood after recent events impacted her life. A couple of days ago, Nagisa was mailed what little money her mother had left. Later, a tragic event was all over the international news on TV. About a week ago, a woman in Brazil was gang raped and brutally murdered by a group of thugs who have been causing all sorts of trouble around the city lately. According to one of the reporters, one of the thugs fooled the woman on the phone stating she has been hired for a high-paying job she recently applied for. Once she arrived at the location, she fell right into the thugs’ trap. They intended to rip her for tall the money she had and force her to work for them as a prostitute. While searching her wallet, one of the thugs notices that her last name had been changed fourteen years ago from a Brazilian name to a Japanese one. Angered that the woman they captured might not be a virgin, they made her fess up about her dead husband and daughter currently residing in Japan. Needless to say, the gang showed the woman no mercy. It turns out the woman was in fact Nagisa’s mother. Kenji is shocked. He cannot even imagine how Nagisa is feeling right now. Still, as her producer, he feels as though it’s up to him to set things right. According to the manager, Nagisa has not come out of her room since yesterday. She was absent from school and cheer practice. Her meals had to be delivered to her room because she would not arrive at the dining hall with everyone else. Worried, Kenji immediately heads for Nagisa’s room. He opens the door and sees Nagisa sitting in the corner in a painfully depressed state. Nagisa is surprised to see Kenji so suddenly like this. She asks him to exit her room as she is not in the mood to talk. Kenji feels like he has to talk with her. It’s not just because it’s his job to make sure his idol is safe and happy…he’s just really worried about her and instinctively wanted to cheer her up. In a rare display of tears, Nagisa tells Kenji she was nearly destroyed by the loss of her mother. Not even the money she received in her mother’s will was enough to mend the hole in her heart. The whole reason she became an idol in the first place was to be able to allow her mother to live a happier life and see her doting daughter again, especially after living such a horrible life in Brazil. Now the only real family she had left is gone. Nagisa feels so guilty, knowing there was absolutely nothing she could do about it. Kenji apologizes to Nagisa for her most unfortunate loss, but tells her to think about what she would tell her if she were still around. Nagisa suddenly looks up with a surprised look on her face. It almost feels like the spirit of her mother is talking to her. From what the image in her head tells her, sitting around and moping about it solves nothing. When she’s feeling down or scared, the things she loves will save her. They will show her that everything will be fine…that she’s never alone. Nagisa soon thinks about all the good things life offered her…her childhood friends at the orphanage…her passion for dancing and cheerleading…her friends and events during her days with the cheer club…fun times at the beach…a chance to watch Hibiki perform and later meet her in person…her idol partners…Kenji…Maya. Even without her parents around, Nagisa can still say she enjoys an overall happy life. Kenji is so pleased that Nagisa still has something precious to hold on to. Still, Nagisa wishes to take a bit of time off to mourn the death of her mother. However, she does promise to return to the office next week, knowing everyone there has been worried sick about her after they have received no word of her since the day of the Harvest Moon Festival. Nagisa hugs Kenji as she cries tears of joy, thanking him for everything. He’s so kind and precious, he’s like an older brother to her. After Kenji and Kaito head back to the office, Nagisa heads to her favorite beach. Creating a makeshift gravestone from a flat white rock she picked up earlier, she places it in the sand and lays a bouquet of white flowers next to it. She says a prayer as a tear runs down her cheek, promising her mother she will fulfill her wishes and keep doing what makes her happy.

Nagisa keeps her promise to Kenji and returns to work the following week. Later on at the IU finals opening ceremony, Nagisa overhears a conversation between Yamato and Maya. Maya is eager to see what kind of challenge her opponents have to offer. She specifically has her eyes on Nagisa, who has come such a long way since she made her idol debut. Yamato, however, is disgusted with her upbeat attitude, believing that her time with Nagisa has made her too soft. According to him, if Maya ever expects to master her dancing and become even stronger, she must show no mercy to her enemies (especially low-lives like ZetaPro) and squash them like the insects they are. Let’s not forget that it was these low-class dogs that killed her parents in that brutal gang war she was caught in so many years ago. Yamato really does not want to fire Maya after she was able to use her earnings to settle in a nice quiet home away from that crime-infested dump full of painful memories. Nagisa cannot believe what she has heard and heads over to talk with her once Yamato is away. She heard everything. Maya was not the only one who had to deal with the loss of family. Nagisa tells Maya the story how she lost her father to a group of angry anti-immigration activists during her infancy and her mother to gangsters in Brazil a few weeks back. She also tells her how helping her mother was a big reason she decided to work as an idol in the first place. While Nagisa was suffering a state of depression after hearing the news of her recently departed mother, Kenji and what sounded like her mother’s spirit taught her something. While she may have no family left, all the things she loves will keep her happy. Maya knows Nagisa is right. She had almost nothing left after losing both her parents. Still, that never stopped her from continuing to hone her dancing skills, competing on a national level, and seeking out skilled rivals. This passion made her happy much like cheerleading, dancing, beach visits, and all her friends make Nagisa happy. Maya can hardly believe how alike the two of them are (aside from their origins, of course). Plus, she really admires her constantly growing talents. She’s very proud to call her perky half-Brazilian friend her rival. As Maya and Nagisa hug, she tells her, “May the best idol win.”

During the semifinals against Project Fairy, Hibiki recognizes her opponent right away. She never expected Nagisa to get this far into the IU. Hibiki has seen Nagisa’s unit perform from time to time since the IU preliminaries. She knows not to hold anything back…not with Nagisa as good as she is and her unit’s true objective (Ryuuguu Komachi) waiting in the wings. Project Fairy puts up a valiant effort, but winds up defeated. Later that night after Iori’s chat with Kenji, Hibiki catches up to Ryuuguu Komachi and tells them to keep a sharp eye on Nagisa. If there’s anyone who can defeat NAZO now, it’s her. She has come so far in such a little amount of time. Hibiki promises Nagisa she will be behind her 100%. Upon hearing Hibiki’s motivation, Nagisa becomes stoked for tomorrow’s final showdown.

With the situation growing more desperate, Yamato decides to hatch his ultimate plan to stop ZetaPro in their tracks. He can be seen posting a message on an online bulletin board…

The next day as the van arrives at Tokyo Dome, ZetaPro is soon swarmed by an angry mob, halting their advance. The mob is packed with racists and anti-immigration activists who have learned the truth about Nagisa’s heritage. They believe she is filthy, wild, impure, and even a demon. Some of the protestors bang on the doors demanding ZetaPro to release Nagisa. Nagisa is scared half to death. She has never seen so many people lash out at her with such bigoted remarks. Luckily, security arrives and disperses the mob, allowing ZetaPro to enter the side gate safely. Nagisa is still shaking. It was like a nightmare come true. She thought she would not have to put up with those kinds of people again, but she was wrong. Kenji notices her confidence fading. He assures her that security has the situation completely under control. Nagisa breathes a sigh of relief as she heads into the dressing room to change.

Later that night, the mob is determined not to give up. They want to get rid of Nagisa no matter what it takes. As the gates open, the guards suddenly step aside and allow the vicious mob to storm the dome. Some non-violent members protest to Nagisa’s fans, informing them they are pulling for an illegal’s daughter. They must betray her for the greater good of Japan, especially considering all the problems Brazilian immigrants brought to their country. Some members of the mob even crowd ZetaPro’s side of the stage in order to prevent Nagisa from performing. One protestor (who was involved in the deportion of Nagisa’s mother and beating of her father) swings a bat around shouting, “I’ll give you the same treatment I gave your father!” Kaito is worried. Even Hibiki is worried up in the stands. These people are not only against Nagisa, but they clearly want to do her harm in more ways than one. Fearing for her safety, Kaito warns Nagisa if the situation is not resolved before call time, she will not be permitted to go on stage. Nagisa feels upset. She badly wants to get out there and perform to her heart’s content especially after coming this far. Plus, with the looming anti-Brazilian threat, her confidence is beginning to dwindle.

The mob’s madness continues into the evening. Yamato is pretty confident that NAZO’s victory is all but assured now. Suddenly, an army of police officers show up to clean up the mess much to Hibiki’s delight. The violent group desperately tries to escape, but the cops quickly restrain and arrest a good chunk of the group. As they are carried away, they can hear Hibiki’s voice. “Serves you bigots right for picking on Nagisa-chan! If you disapprove half-Brazilian idols, I take it you hate Okinawans too, huh?” A couple of members of the mob cheer upon seeing Hibiki as they happen to be part of her fanbase. Their angel reacts in disgust, “Jeez, you guys are hypocrites! Jail’s too good for you!” Kaito is informed by the stage crew that the situation has been resolved. Kaito clears Nagisa to perform, much to her excitement. Yamato is stunned. He cannot believe his foolproof plan to stop Nagisa was shot down. Maya speaks up and tells ZetaPro what happened. Earlier last night, Yamato posted information on Nagisa to an online message board in a particular thread that deals with anti-Brazilian immigration. He knew some of the people on that page had particular violent tendencies. By gathering the mob at Tokyo Dome and rewriting the schedules of the stage crew and security guards so that his agents would take their place when the time is right, the mob would stop Nagisa from performing and give NAZO the IU championship by default. That’s where Maya came in. After overhearing a phone conversation between Yamato and his agents posing as gate guards, Maya called the police under her producer’s nose and told them to clear the mob from the dome. Yamato cannot believe one of his idols stabbed him in the back. Maya disapproves of winning by dishonest methods. These kinds of victories feel empty to her. She really wants to face Nagisa’s unit at their full potential so she can prove her strength. The rest of the conversation goes on regularly from there. As Nagisa takes the stage, she does not care how many haters are in the audience now. With the spirits of both her parents watching over her, she has found one thing that will always make her happy…being an idol! Just before the big performance, a familiar voice can be heard shouting, “You can do it Nagisa-chan! Nankurunaisa!”

ENDING

A couple of weeks later, Nagisa comes in with some big news. A fisherman from Hiroshima (does this sound familiar?) arrived at the orphanage one day, found Nagisa, thought she was very cute despite her different looks and origins, and decided to adopt her! Kenji and the others are so proud of her. What’s surprising is that her new foster father has no idea that she is an idol. She will unfortunately have to move away from her old life. She made so many new friends in the orphanage and at school. However, she knows she will go to a new school, make new friends, find new beaches to visit, enter another cheer club, and maybe even take up fishing like the man who adopted her…so many new things she loves that will make her happy. She still wants to continue her idol career just because she loves being an idol! Who knows, maybe she can take her foster father to one of her concerts in the future when he’s not at work? Plus, her original parents will always be around looking after her…wherever they may be. While she may have a new, happier life to look forward to, Nagisa will never forget the times she spent (and will continue to spend) with the one who she’s happiest around…Kenji.

Shiori will be next. I recently came up with a couple of ideas on how she became so quiet and emotionless.

"...it appears to be my turn..."

Himi Shiori’s Route

Kenji first meets Shiori in a nearby library. She is currently reading books on poetry and traditional Japanese art. Kenji then notices a stack of papers next to her. They are poems she herself wrote using near perfect calligraphy. Kenji can tell the President was right when he told him Shiori is a very artsy girl. When he tries to get Shiori’s attention, she turns around with an almost expressionless look on her face. Kenji suddenly gets chills down his spine. Her piercing eyes seem as cold as ice. Kenji does not get much of a response either. She talks very monotonously, sometimes in broken sentences. Even after Kenji tells Shiori the news, she does not appear to be excited for her upcoming debut. While she means better, her blank emotions make it look like she does not even care. Kenji wonders. Can an icy artist like her really become an idol?

While Shiori may appear to be cold at times, almost to the point where others may think she’s heartless, she really does care for her friends and welcomes her new partners with open arms…theoretically. During her first lessons, she surprisingly displays a wispy yet decent quality singing voice and a rather impressive sense of rhythm. While her expression remains blank, she is well aware of emotions expressed in writing. Lyrics feel like a poem to her. Being an avid poet herself, she can almost sense the heart of the author (or lyricist) as she reads through her song.

Shiori proves herself to be a solid performer. Every live concert feels like visually expressing a poem to her. Later on after competing in her first festival, she feels much more comfortable on stage with larger audiences. The next day, Kenji happens to run into Shiori on her way to the library…a quiet reading room where it is almost absolutely silent with the door closed. The chairs are comfortable and there is even a small round desk for Shiori to work her magic. The peaceful atmosphere allows her to relax and concentrate. Once Shiori and Kenji arrive and close the door, she opens her sketchbook and flips through the pages, showing off her recent drawings and poems. They all have a very traditional style to them almost as if they have been made four or five centuries ago. Kenji is highly impressed and commends her for her outstanding display of artistic skill. Shiori did not expect such an amazed response. Almost no one has ever praised her work like this before, even her family. Coming from a heavily traditional Japanese household, her works were heavily inspired by her older art styles. She became a master calligrapher at the age of seven after only a few months of experience. When she is not dabbling in art and poetry, Shiori often spends her time reading books. To her, books are art too. She can almost seem to sense the true feelings of the author as she reads the text. The reason Shiori loves the library so much is because it houses several forms of art, allowing her to admire other great masterpieces in a peaceful setting she is comfortable with. Kenji curiously asks Shiori how a heavily traditional artist decided to become an idol. Shiori claims her works have often been criticized by her peers for being “old-fashioned” and “out of date.” One day, she noticed the library recently added a stock of CDs. Then she thought…music is art too. When she saw idols perform for the first time, she was fascinated by the outfits, songs, and choreography, almost as if they are telling a story or poem. Shiori decided to become an idol in order to broaden her horizons and dabble in a more modern form of art. If seems to have fared well for her so far as people admire her new audible and visual art. Kenji finds her story interesting and is proud of the fact she is still finding new ways to kindle her artist’s spirit. Kenji spends a bit of time watching Shiori write a new poem. This one seems to be more of a modern love poem similar to the songs she has been working on recently. Kenji admires Shiori’s creativity. He has to go soon, but Shiori thanks him for spending some extra time with her. While her expression says otherwise, her new memories with her new friends are very special to her. As Kenji leaves, he cannot help but wonder what made Shiori so quiet and emotionless. Could art be the only way she can express herself and her true feelings?

Himi Shiori's Route, cont.

Shiori progresses very well in her lessons. Her newly awakening talents are really beginning to show. Unfortunately, they are not enough during the Sunny Beach Festival as her unit is crushed singlehandedly by Himeko. Himeko appears before ZetaPro and proceeds to rub her victory in their faces. However, once she looks into Shiori’s eyes, her icy stare makes Himeko’s body shiver with fear. Himeko can hardly believe a “monster” like Shiori could become an idol. That blank expression…those cold, piercing eyes…that hair like evening snow…it’s almost as if she isn’t even human. Shiori suddenly looks away from Himeko and folds her hands in front of her. Kenji thinks Himeko is trying to offend Shiori and asks her to stop. Himeko trembles as she warns Kenji to get rid of Shiori as soon as possible. She felt like she was staring death straight in the eyes. Shiori hardly even responds to Himeko’s comments. All she can do is say to herself, “…monster…” Himeko looks back at Shiori in disgust as she quickly runs away, telling her she will return to destroy her again if she does not submit to her demands.

Back at the office, Kenji cannot help but worry about Shiori. She does not seem to mind losing to a member of NAZO at all. However, she has been muttering the word “monster” to herself during the drive back to the office. Shiori then asks her partners and Kenji if they think she’s a monster too. Some people often say she reminds them of a yuki-onna with her natural beauty, sapphire eyes, and lavender-colored hair. However, her constantly expressionless face and icy glare have startled most of her peers over time, causing them to spread rumors and stray away from her. Not only did people think she was not human, but they also considered her a sociopath, almost as if she’s trying to scare people away. While she may appear antisocial on the outside, she really does care for her friends and loved ones. Everyone tells Shiori they never for a second saw her as a monster. She should just ignore the people who are not willing to get to know her just because of some false superstitions. Besides, she is an amazing artist and an even more amazing idol. Shiori thanks her friends for their support, but she still believes she is a monster. Kenji is not willing to let someone as talented as Shiori badmouth herself like that. While Shiori understands Kenji’s feelings it’s just a sad fact she had to live with for the longest time. Not wanting to worry the others, Shiori decides not to talk any further about this particular topic. She really wants to get back to her sketchbook and get her mind off of whatever is bothering her. Kenji and the others understand as the group takes their leave for the evening.

Later, Himeko is seen taking with her producer. While she was able to claim an easy victory, she claims her opponent was scary. Her producer, however, is not the least bit afraid. In fact, these whole superstitions about this “monster” idol will eventually ruin her. To him, Shiori is absolutely no threat to his plans.

Meanwhile as Shiori arrives at home, she is greeted by some shady figures. Knowing Shiori received her paycheck that day, the head of the household demands she hand over the whole sum to him…not a single yen less. After taking a drink from his bottle of sake, the man immediately sends Shiori outside to take care of the chores she missed out on due to her idol career. Unless Shiori completes all her tasks before nightfall, she will have to sleep outside…again. Shiori goes straight to work without a word. The man’s wife is disgusted by Shiori’s blank expression…it’s almost as if she could strike back without warning as soon as the family has their backs turned. The man tells her not to worry. Shiori has no voice and no future. Besides, given the man's treatment of Shiori in the past, she knows better…

I didn't expect anything like that! Shiori's story may become even better than Reika's! :o
