Hello. First of all, I'm glad we have the forums back. And I’m also back at playing Dream Club after a 2 or 3 month break. My xbox360 was left switched off but I thought that it deserves a better fate, after all.

By the way, I recorded the BGM at the start. If anyone’s interested here are the links. The quality is quite nasty (I was using a 1998 sound card).

Also, I’m playing Mio route. She speaks Kyoto-ben and her story is very amusing.
I got some pictures from her album.
Also, I finally figured to switch to using HDMI (with a DVI adapter). It’s like heaven and earth compared with VGA. Greatly improves the sharpness. With D-sub there’s a noticeable blur and now the picture is crystal-clear. Though unfortunately my camera doesn’t reflect this improvement.

Also I translated a couple of songs. Maybe it’s not very accurate but I think I got the meaning.

半分はママのシナリオ («Halfway mama’s scenario »)

恋は気まぐれ?時まかせ?
それとも…知能犯!
計算だったり、じゃなかったり…でも大好きなんです
Love is a caprice? It's temporary?
Or a sophisticated crime?
It can be a good calculation or not at all…But I love you, you know.

恋は気ままに!正確に!
愛情の行方も
ムードで決まる時もあったりする女心☆
Love is fast! That's for sure!
And so are the feelings
It’s the girl’s heart that often pretty mood-dependent.

今度の日曜日は 見たい映画があるのDarlin'
10時にいつもの場所…
寝坊して15分遅刻!パパとモメたの信じてDarlin'
かわいいウソだと目なんかつむっててねっ
Darling, there’s a movie that I want to watch on Sunday.
At 10 a.m., the usual place…
I overslept and I was late for 15 minutes! Darning, believe me I was quarreling with my dad.
That’s a cute little lie, don’t mind it, OK?

恋は気まぐれ?時まかせ?
乾いていない髪の
こじつけた言い訳も分かってもらいたいんです
恋は気ままに!正確に?
時にわがままに☆
ムードで決まる時もあったりするけど…Love you☆
Love is a caprice? It's temporary?
Believe me, I meant no harm when I told you about wet hair.
Love is fast! That's for sure!
And sometimes it’s selfish.
It can depend on my mood sometimes but I love you.

Nao

「ボクは無敵のHeroでいつだってカッコよくて
どんな時だってあなたのこと助けにまいりま~す!」
«I'm an invincible hero. Always with self-sufficient looks
I'll come to your side at any time»

人ごみで真面目な顔 怪しすぎて可笑しすぎて(笑)
不覚にもその手法に 少しはまっちゃったみたい☆
In a crowd with a serious face, you're overly suspicious and extremely funny.
You know you got obsessed with your methods just a bit even if they don’t work.

もし友達じゃなかったら…とか
シビアな質問はちょっと苦手だよ~
大衆的な感覚だけど
やっぱ求めるのは「おしとやか」なの?
And what it we weren’t friends?
I’m bad at harsh questions.
It’s just a public opinion
But people expect a girl to be ladylike, don’t they?

いま 君のことが
あぁ 気になりだす
なぜ?こんなはずじゃなかったのにどうして?
照れ隠しに思わずかかと落とし!
もっと強くならなきゃ 守ってもらえないじゃんっ
Now I think about you
But why is it like that? It wasn’t meant to be.
You hit me on my head out of embarrassment.
I need to get stronger because nobody can defend me.

Ah, thanks for the translations.  I really need to get back to Dream Club sometime.
Haven't played it in months.  Are there any good new DLC lately?

You're welcome.
Speaking of DLC, the last update was on January. There's a katana. Add a kimono and you'll get a good samurai. But the girl is holding the katana sheathed and behind her back so don't expect a bloodbath like in Kill Bill.

Speaking of my activities. I successfully finished playing Mio's and Mari's scenarios. Mari cost me 800 mp. But she loses a lot to Mian. And she's not a vampire like many people wanted her to be.

So what is she then?
I'v heard Vampire, Demon and Zombie so far...

Do you really want me to say it? It'll be a spoiler, then.

...

OK, then. It's not "what" but "who". She's an absolutely normal 21 year old girl, if only a bit eccentric.

I can probably try to translate her story if you're interested. In fact I keep notes for all the stories I play but those notes are in russian and I need to do a back-translation which is time-consuming as you can see.

Speaking of Mari, what exactly did I do wrong on my last playthrough with her a few months ago.  You know, on that one step.

I'm sorry. I don't remember exactly what the case was.
Basically, you didn’t get the perfect ending, did you?

Now I really can’t tell because when I played myself everything went pretty smoothly.

The thing is her birthday is on May, 4th. So you have to meet once with Mio-chan quite quickly after which she will PM you Mari’s birthdate.
Mari likes champagne. So it’ll be a good idea to give her a bottle as a birthday present.

Then you have to gain some good reputation for Mari to sing karaoke to you.
Then you ask her about karaoke by choosing a yellow (=story-driving) topic. And she’ll tell you she needs a mike. You get her a mike for 15k yen and she’s happy.

Everything else is pretty straightforward. You just need to get to Dream Club regularly and spend time with her.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Ah, I never did that birthday thing, that's what messed me up.
Now it figures. Birthday parties are key to getting the perfect ending.
To know the date, you have you get acquainted with your girl's friend.
For example, Mio is on good terms with both Mari and Mian. And she's mentioned in their stories. Actually Mio is on really good terms with Mian so their stories intertwine. Likewise, if you play Mio route you have to pay a visit to Mian in order to know Mio's birthdate. Once you made friends with the girl you get an SMS around 3 weeks before the actual date. This way you normally have time to buy a present and then congratulate the girl about a week before her actual birthday. When the time is due the date is among the topics to discuss when you press the yellow button.

I didn't know this feature on my first playthrough but since then I got perfect endings for Setsu, Nao, Reika, Mio, and Mari.

Thank you for your encouragement.
Today I back-translated a tiny little portion of my Russian script. I hope you don’t mind if I post the text in small parts here as they are prepared.

The reason for me to be absent from the forums  this week is that I was actively rooting for Japanese table tennis team. You know there was the world championship for this year was held in Moscow. At first I was watching live broadcast at Tv Tokyo online. But then I thought it would be great to go to the stadium myself. And I went to cheer on Japanese girl team at the quarterfinals. They beat Koreans and they made my day. I also had a chance to say a few phrases to the head of Japanese cheering team. So apparently I had a good time. In the semifinals today Japan lost to China because China is unbeatable but they assured a bronze medal nevertheless. A great team indeed.

Mari's route.

Dream Club.

Nice to meet you.

(Mari) Thank you for inviting me.
I’m Mari.

(Mari) And who are you?
(mp) I’m MP.
(mp – main protagonist)
(Mari) I see. Hello to you.
(mp) Hello, Mari-chan. Nice to meet you.
(Mari) I can hear you. Speak more gently.
(mp) I’m sorry.
I’m often told that my voice is very loud.
(mp) Was it bad?
(Mari) My ears are singing…
But it’s not that I hate your voice.
(mp) R-really?
OK, I’ll be more careful next time.
(mp)(Mari-chan is very sensitive…)
(mp)(I should watch my mouth…)
(Mari) Say, do you like Bloody Maririn?
(mp) Buraji Maririn?
Er…I’m sorry I seem to be missing something.
(Mari) I see.
(mp) If you don’t mind, please enlighten the barbarian.
What is Bloody Maririn?
(Mari) Bloody Maririn is me.
(mp) Ahem.
(Mari) Ahem.
(mp) Is that all?
(Mari) You want to know anything else?
(mp) Well, you see…
(mp) You look grown-up. At this place you don’t see such girls every so often.
(mp) Any special reason for you to be here?
(Mari) To purify love and death…
(mp) W-what?
(Mari) You asked why I’m working here. It’s exactly for that.
Don’t make me say things twice.
(mp) I-I’m sorry…
(mp)(Mari surely has her quirks…)
(mp)(but she’s extremely cute…)
(mp)(I should get to know her better…)
(Mari) And what brought YOU here?
(mp) Well…you know…
(mp) I’d like to be of help to you.
(mp) You were talking about purifying love and death or something…
(Mari) Yes, I was.
But it’s OK for now.
(mp) I see…It’s a pity.
(mp) Well, then I’ll simply keep visiting you.
If you need something, just say it.
(mp) I want to know you better.
(Mari) OK, gimme your email. And this is mine.
(mp) Ah, thanks.
(Mari) Same here.
I’ll write to you in the evening.
(mp) OK, I’ll be waiting.
Once again, I’m happy to meet you.
(Mari) Me too.
(Mari) OK, then, let’s drink!

(Mari) For the brute who lost his owner and was walking aimlessly… Cheers!

(mp) Mari-chan, you’re not very active.
(mp) I can’t really say how old you are.
And how old?
(Mari) 21…Probably lived for too long.
(mp) Eh?
21? So young!
(mp) Life is only beginning now.
(Mari) After 20 the rest of life is rubbish.
A waste of body, that’s all.
(mp) I don’t think so.
(mp) After 20 there are also lots and lots of amusing things.
(Mari) For example?
(mp) What about the booze?
You don’t mind drinking, do you?
(Mari) Ah, it’s all for killing time. And nothing else.
(mp) Oh, come on. Don’t talk like that when you’re drinking with me.
-
ETS.

(Mari) *Ouch*
(mp) Eh? Something happened?
(Mari) My lip hurts.
It was badly snapped this morning.
(mp) Eh? Somebody snapped your lip? Who was it?
(Mari) …The cat.
I have a cat in my house.
(mp) A cat, just to think of it…
(mp) I thought it was surely a man.
(Mari) Can’t men snap lips?
(mp) I’m not to judge. I’ll pass on this.
(mp) You’d think I’m depressed. I wouldn’t like to.
(Mari) That’s a wise choice.
(Mari) Because if you say something stupid one can hurt your lip as well.
(mp) Who?
(Mari) My cat. She’s running around the place watching over me.
(mp) Why the cat? And why is it watching over you?
(Mari) So that I shan’t touch people.
(mp) Excuse me?
(mp)(the more I listen to her the more mysterious she gets…)
-
(time is up)

(mp) I gotta go.
(Mari) Really?
It’s a pity.
Then, I’ll be waiting for you at the club next time.

(seeing off)

(Mari) We had a good time.
You can call me again.
-
Monday, Jan 8.

I’m short on money from last time. Also lost 20k yen at the casino.
-
Saturday, Jan 13.

Dream Club.

Today Mari is absent so I’m paying a visit to Mio. I also happen to make a date with her. We’re going to the rink.
(The funny thing I started Mari’s route just after I finished Mio’s story and we’re seeing each other again)
-
Saturday, Jan 20.

Dream Club.

Mari’s at place.

(Mari) Thanks for inviting me. I hope we’ll manage to keep company.

ETS.

“Bloody Maririn”

(mp) Say, lately we were talking about Bloody Maririn.
(mp) But what in the end does it mean?
(Mari) I told you, didn’t I? Bloody Maririn is me.
(mp) No, please explain in more detail. It worries me.
(Mari) I’ll bring my CD next time.
(mp) A CD?
(mp) Ah…Bloody Maririn is your favorite band, isn’t it?
(Mari) Bloody Maririn is me. The vocals are also by me.
(mp) Eh? Mari-chan, you’re into music?
(Mari) An indy project…
Though I’m better at giving live concerts.
(mp) An indy project?
But releasing your own record is great, don’t you think?
(mp) I see, so Bloody Maririn is your band.
(mp) So you mean that we can expect your national debut soon?
(Mari) Nah, I don’t care about being famous and such.
(mp) R-really?
(mp) You know I’m bad at indy music.
(mp)(honestly I know absolutely nothing about it…)
(mp) But I’m interested in your CD.
(Mari) OK, I’ll give it to you.
And you’ll listen to my songs.
(mp) I sure will.
I’ll be your fan!
(mp)(great! Now I found a topic to discuss!)
-
(changing topic)

(Mari) Did you love somebody to the point you feel you’d kill the person.
(mp) Yeah, I had something like that.
But killing is out of question, of course.
(Mari) This person…gave you the elbow?
(Mari) And she’s happy with someone else?
(Mari) Maybe now she hardly remembers you…
(mp) Oh, come on, don’t rub salt in my wounds…
(Mari) I do that on purpose.
So that you remember it to the end of your days.
(mp) Mari-chan, you scare me.

(translated on June, 5 2010)

Monday, Jan 22.

I'm short on funds again. My attempt to gamble brings me 10 thousand yen. That should be enough for now.
-
Saturday, Jan 27.

Dream Club.

(Mari) Thank you for inviting me.
Your soul shall be cleansed.
-
(mp) Mari-chan, you’re just dead pale.
It’s almost like one can see veins through your skin.
(Mari) I’m from the north. From Hokkaido.
(mp) I see.
Somehow I guessed that.
(mp) You guys all have pale skin there.
Maybe you’re a half at that?
(Mari) Yeah, say that I’m a skeleton in the chem lab.
(mp) No, I tell you, your skin is almost transparent. I feel like I can see your intestines.
-
ETS.

“Mari-chan’s CD”

(mp) Mari-chan, you said you’d lend me your CD to listen to.
(mp) I’ve been waiting for it…
(Mari) I don’t have any spare copies left…
It seems I handed them out.
(mp) Oh, no…
I was so looking forward to it…
(mp) But I figured just now what we can do.
Sing karaoke to me! I’d love to listen to your voice.
(Mari) Right now?
(mp) Er…You mind?
(Mari) …
Let it be you instead.
(mp) Why me?
(Mari) I’ll let you test your soul.
And then it’ll be my turn to sing.
(mp) I’m not confident in my singing abilities at all…
(mp) You won’t laugh at me if I’m off the mark?
(Mari) I’ll be OK as long as my ears don’t crack.
(mp) You’re sure?
(mp) OK then, I’ll try to.
But then it’ll be your turn, OK?
(Mari) Agreed.
(mp) OK, started!
-
(mp) Ah…It’s been a long time since I sang with so much vigor last.
So, how’s my voice?
(Mari) Meh.
(mp) I…failed?
(Mari) Well…Basically, yes.
(mp) But we agreed, right?
Will you sing yourself?
(Mari) Quiet!..I’m thinking.
(mp) S-sorry…
But I’m sort of a client, you know…
(mp)(It looks like she’s deep into herself now. I’ll better ask her to sing next time if I’m lucky)
-
(seeing off)

(Mari) I enjoy the time with you.
(mp) Will you miss me?
(Mari) No, I won’t.
Good night to you.
-
Monday, Jan 29.

Mari’s writing.
“I was thinking about your karaoke. I want to listen to you more.”

Meanwhile we’re gambling again. 10 thousand yen in cash.
-
Saturday, Feb 3.
Skipping Dream Club.
Mari has a day-off as well.

This time we’re working in a supermarket. Made 22 thousand yen in a week.
-
Saturday, Feb 10.

Dream Club.

(Mari) Music is a heartfelt cry.
(Mari) Do you listen to the music?
(mp) Yes, I like music a lot.
(mp) I can’t imagine life without a pocket player.
(Mari) I see. So you’re clinging to the music now.
This is very good.
(mp) Sometimes it’s good to cling to some things.
(mp) I feel very ill-at-ease without music. I start to feel nervous, hands are trembling…
(Mari) I think this is another sort of illness…
You just need to go easier on alcohol.
-
ETS.

Now we try to ask Mari to sing karaoke.

(mp) Will you sing for me?
(Mari) Sure. If you have something to request.

Of course we’re ordering Mari’s img song, “Yokohama rhapsody”.

横浜ラプソディ

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=agQduajwqeM

I cared to translate the lyrics.

Dear, I remember the day when the two of us
Were walking the road for carriages aimlessly
Holding our hand together.
And the sea breeze was blowing at us.
We were running like crazy up Momiji Hill
To Minato Mirai.

Harbor lights.
Somewhere far away steamer gives a whistle
Ultra-urban streets of Yamashita district
Still remind you of the scenery that
Japan made at the time
It became open to the world.

A city of our memories. Lovely Yokohama.
Ah, the warehouse made of red brick
Where we were making dates
And headed right to Sengen looking at the tower.

Harbor lights.
Somewhere far away a steamer gives a whistle
The streets are changing. Now Hama-bowl is no more.
Yamate. The Chinatown where I went for the first time.
Singing a rhapsody to myself.
Lalala…Yokohama.

(Translation notes.
The lyrics contain lots of references to various landmarks.

1. Momiji Hill (lit. “a hill of red/yellow leaves”. Among places of interest there’s a monument which says Venus was visible when it passed across the Sun. This fact was registered in Yokohama by a (famous?) Mexican (!) astronomer Francisco Dias Covarrubias accompanied by a Japanese colonel Yoshida on Dec 9, 1874. The monument was erected in 1974 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of this remarkable event.

2. Minato Mirai (lit. “Port Future”) – a district of Yohohama with a high concentration of skyscrapers.

5. Hama-bowl – a building at the canal where there was a bowling club.
The building was demolished but it is replaced by a modern building and Hama-bowl is now reorganized into HAMABOWL EAS. Beside bowling this entertainment center now contains restaurants, a sauna, karaoke and fitness clubs.

-
(mp) Mari-chan, you’re quite well-endowed (bon-kyu-bon), you know?
(mp) So…What are your sizes?
(Mari) Bon-kyu-bon? What’s that?
(TL note: it means “wide-narrow-wide” or 90-60-90 in measurements)

(mp) Er, it’s when your waist is slim and your hips and breast are round…Boing…
(TL Note – see Mio. Both Mios)

(mp) That is, I want to say you’re extremely charming.
(Mari) Is that a compliment? Thank you.
(mp) As a token of gratitude, can you tell me some concrete figures?
Or else I’ll have trouble getting to sleep…
(Mari) From the top – 86 to 56 to 88.
Are you happy with that?
(mp) Wow, what a body! It’s better than I thought.
(mp) Thank you.
Now I’ll sleep like a baby.

And we’re doing everything possible to solve cash shortage. Like helping others return bad debts… Where was my baseball bat?

In the end we spent 5 weeks on the works instead of three. As mp explains, “The cops almost got me. I was put on house arrest.” But we still earn 200 thousand. This money will come in handy.

ETS.

(mp) Mari-chan, I propose a toast to our wonderful meeting!
(Mari) I suppose you just drank too much.
(mp) No, I mean that it’s surely not enough to celebrate this miracle.
(mp) We should drink plenty of booze!
(Mari) OK then, let’s see who falls first.
(mp) OK, I won’t lose to you!
(Mari) I won’t go easy on you.
-
(we’re still alive)
-
(mp) Mari-chan. You’re small but you’re so cute!
(mp) Tall men like small girls, you know?
(Mari) It has nothing to do with height.
What matters is the breadth of heart.
(mp) Huh?
Breadth of heart?
(Mari) I think you need to fix your ears soon.
(Mari) I know a good doctor who can help you.
He’s not licensed and he gets interest in autopsy but he’s a real talent!
(mp) N-no, thank you. I think my ears got better now. Don’t worry…
(Mari) I see.
But if you need help just tell me.

Story dialog.
“Mari’s Karaoke”

(mp) Mari-chan, your karaoke was perfect.
(mp) I had a creepy feel all over.
(Mari) No, it’s not that…
It’s completely off the mark.
(mp) What do you mean by that?
I was impressed beyond any words.
(mp) I think you’re better than many pros.
(Mari) Maybe you can do it.
(mp) Huh?
I can do what?
(Mari) Purify love and death.
(Mari) Your faults are not a problem. You can make up for them, your soul as well.
(mp) I-I see…
(mp)(I didn’t get a thing of this…)
(mp)(but this feeling of mystery is charming…)
-
(Mari drinks too much. And they say she’s strong against alcohol)

(Mari) I suddenly feel extremely sleepy. I need to take a nap.

Story dialog.
“To know each other”

(mp) Listen, Mari-chan.
(mp) Don’t you think we should get to know each other better?
(Mari) What for?
(mp) Well, you see, sometimes it’s hard for me to get your way of thinking…
(mp) I feel confused and I get upset and I can’t drink normally…
(Mari) Don’t worry. Your soul will show you the right path.
(mp) My soul is crying!
I want to know more about you.
(mp) So…Will you go on a date with me?
(Mari) OK, I’ll respond to the cry of your soul.
(mp) Does it mean OK?
(Mari) The destination is on you.
(mp) Y-y-yes!!
(it’s great that I asked her out!)
-
(Mari) mp, when did you know love?
愛…しりそめし頃に
(TL NOTE: there’s a manga of the same name. Honestly, I had difficulty translating the expression)

(mp) What’s that?
(Mari) It means, who was your first love?
(mp) Ah, my first love…
(mp) I think it was a girl in kindergarten.
(Mari) You’re lolicon?
(mp) Well, not literally.
(mp) But now the one I like is not a kindergarten girl but a goth-loli.
(mp) Like Mari-chan, dressed in frilly clothes.
(Mari) Frilly clothes? I like frilly clothes…
(mp) So that’s the thing.
(mp)(but actually, if the girl is cute I don’t care what she wears…)
