And since the Slims are being made, all the current PS3 models (80 and 160GB units) are also down in price ($299 USD for 80GB, and $399 USD for 160GB, iirc), since they won't be made anymore after the launch of the Slim.
Though I would highly recommend waiting for the Slim anyways. Just wait until September 1st for it. ;)

Don't be silly, you lose backwards compatibility support and linux if you get the PS3 Slim!

Two things I never even use, BUT AT LEAST MY PS3 HAS THE SPIDERMAN FONT, A COLOURED PLAYSTATION LOGO ON IT AND IT'S SHINY!

The very reason a Slim variant of the PS3 was made. To cut down on production costs.
Also, the average consumer would be more likely to buy a PS3 for $300 than $400. Wouldn't you think so too?
However if they are using the very same heat generating parts, I think production costs for the replacement boards for the flaw they created would go higher. Let's hope $ony uses better parts this time for their PS3 Slim

It's already been said that parts used in the Slim are cheaper to produce, and are overall, better than parts used before.

Nice job with the whole "$"ony thing. Pretty darn original.

Slim version of everything must be Sony's idea of good marketing.
You want games? Here, have a slim PS3!

The PSP Slim was that last product that I've seen that was good, it's not going to be bad, good, bad is it?

Using $ signs in Sony, rather than in Microsoft? What is this, I don't even.

Yeah I thought that too, must be $cotty's way of thinking.
What if they ported over SP to the PS2... No backwards compatibility! D:

I'm still somewhat skeptical about the price...
Conveniently, cheaper and better parts are available now, meaning they weren't before? Or were they just too lazy/stupid/ignorant to find them?

You make it sound as if cheaper and more efficient chips and parts can only be found in some sort of magical forest...

Obviously, over time, technology improves. Hence why we have smaller phones/portables/computers/etc.

The PSP Slim can load UMDs quicker than the original PSP, and that's lighter and the parts were cheaper also.

It just doesn't click for me, sorry...
Reason being is probably because I still can't really cope with the existance of those extremely flat, HD, big screen TVs, I just remain in awe.

Aw heck, if you're right, you're right.
Cheaper a PS3 is, the better.

This goes by assuming the original PSP's loading speed was average or better?

The original PSP had a slow loading speed, unless you call 4 minutes to get to the game menu screen where you still can't play yet fast.

It's the truth, I've tried it.
