However, I wonder if there're "trash" tasks to be taken care of prior to truly playing, a la iM@S2?
(For the unfamiliar, you basically were intended to use your first few playthroughs in order to collect all the things that would help you get the high scores and the true ends.)

lol im swapping ritsuko for haruka and thats going to be my 3 picks, i read an interview through a crummy google translaltion and the gist of it i was able to make out was that the game just keeps going and theres no need for those type of runs because theres no "time limit"
not too sure what that means so maybe someone can clarify, i never played the others ones this will be my first.

Basically, in the previous games, you had to work to achieve the goal of becoming "top idol" (in iM@S2's case, getting the Idol Academy awards) within a certain amount of weeks, where you had to pick from certain sets of activities to do each week (do I want to help my idols perfect their skills, send them out on promoting, hold a concert? etc.). In iM@S2, you had 55 weeks.

So I've been lurking on /vg/ over on 4chan and from what I gathered produce mode has no ending and the game progresses by seasons. Every season you unlock another idol to produce and a new song to play with, but I'm not sure which songs are base songs and which are unlockable but you do need to unlock them in produce mode to be able to use them in s4u.

Still haven't heard squat about Leon, which is a bummer because I'm really interested in her.

that seems kinda meh, i like the idea of producing my idols forever(or as long as i feel like) so this game seems right up my alley, also like that it seems that theres no game overs so if you lose at a festival you just suck it up and hope you do better next time.
