THE iDOLM@STER > THE iDOLM@STER Platinum Stars
Pre-release thread: THE iDOLM@STER: Platinum Stars
Maka:
Wait, what's the house from the movie? Is it the inn from the training camp?
Also I knew Wakabayashi had a kid but I totally forgot about Nigo.
Naryoril:
To me it didn't look like the assets from ofa.
To be precise about the trailer:
The house was seen from the outside and hardware entering it. Cut to the inside frontal camera on Haruka closing the door and then looking into the camera and introducing herself. I think then they showed the silhouettes on a silver background. Cut back to Haruka still at the entrance and you can hear the others saying "You are late Haruka."
Yes it was the inn. Or at least it looked a lot like it.
Chihayaa:
EXTREMELY happy about this. I'm so glad the original cast can be supported by Namco for just a while longer, and I'm definitely importing this as my first console iM@S game. I hope my Katakana skills can carry me through some of the game =P

As people mentioned already, I’m glad they kept the original cast for the next main game. A lot of people like me are very attached to them since they have a lot of history, songs, and interaction together, which makes so much good memories for us. They’re very special and iconic. It wouldn’t be good if they completely replaced them with the other spinoffs idols unless they made a separate game for those spinoffs.
I don’t think a 3rd vision will happen because visions imply more drastic changes. I know you guys already know what the changes were between 1st and 2nd vision. I could be wrong, but I think some major ones include changes everyone’s age (a year older), Project Fairy permanently joining (though Miki was there before), hairstyles were changed drastically like with Miki’s, Azusa, and the twins having distinct hairstyles, etc.
1st to 2nd vision worked (for the most part) since it was still early in the franchise. At this point, it’s too late to do any drastic changes (little changes are okay). I mean if a year passes again in the 3rd vision, then Haruka wouldn’t be in school anymore and will lose her identity as a school girl, which many fans will be against. Also, the team has 13 idols. So, adding more idols now is going to dilute them, and it will feel odd since the original cast don't have much history with them (the new idols) as they do among themselves (besides the office is too small anyway to hold more people). That’s why it’s good that the spinoffs were created in order to help keep 2nd vision fresh by giving attention to the other idols.

Hmm…I’m kind of worried about this. I hope that they didn’t drastically change the art style. The characters models should improve to make the existing models look better. Kind of like from Idolm@ster 1 to Idolm@ster 2 since next generation graphics were better. I would rather keep the same models from OFA/Idolm@ster 2 for PS4 Idolm@ster than to try a completely different art style that people may not like.

I don't know how to interpret this, but as mentioned earlier maybe we could walk around like a 1st/3rd person game? I don't know. But, it seems they're experimenting on stuff. I have a list of wants for the next game, but my list won't be fully fufilled. But, that's okay. As long they don't mess up hugely then it's all good.

The thing is, a visual reboot is pretty much guaranteed due to next-gen hardware. If you reuse the exact same visuals from 2/OFA, then that's a huge sign of laziness and for a next-gen video game, that's unacceptable. Even if they DO keep 2/OFA's visual style, they need to do things to add to it, such as (what VirgoFall brought up in a private conversation) improved animations for performances. That way, the visuals can remain familiar, but the jump from 7th to 8th gen will still be present.

The old backgrounds were just pre-rendered images slapped into the background. From what I'm hearing, these are fully-rendered 3D backgrounds that the idols can potentially interact with more. Best comparison I can make with this is Sonic 4 Episode I (pre-rendered) vs Sonic Generations (fully-rendered).
