Former Judoka, Kendoka and now currently: Kyokushin Karate. The general philosophy is finding your own limits and surpass it. One mind, one body. in simple terms.
Thinking about going back to Kendo as well. but need to find a good school and ofc, financially I need to be able to do it.
Karate, huh? Heard the style is a lot about rooting yourself to the ground when you have to, and very strike-centric... or at least it seemed that way to me. Could be different, dunno, but it seems hard, external, explosive, and rooted.
... Okay, well there are many styles too, and I probably shouldn't be basing my opinion on YouTube kata demonstrations. ^^
Kendo too, I see. Katana are cool and all, but hey, can't find any koryu where I am. I tried Kendo before, but the instructors... didn't mesh well with me, I think. I'm more about the strategy right now, but they were centering more around the strike and the form of the strike, so I didn't really feel I was putting any thought into anything. That, and the fact that I couldn't really communicate with one of them very well... despite both of us being native English speakers. Maybe I just found the wrong dojo. Dunno.
Maybe sometime, I'll have a look around my area to see what's around. I was thinking about doing something different (for me) like Thai Boxing, don't think I'll have any trouble finding that, but we'll see. I've gone a little too long without some form of martial art, and I'm getting a little antsy.
