I'm much more recent when it comes to Touhou. Truthfully, I first found out about it through playthroughs of various fangames on Youtube. In fact, I'll give you a bit of info on such fangames:

IOSYS was better in the past, nowadays most of their songs can't even be compared to their older ones.
Ironically, their older songs attracted non-danmaku fans who were just lured in by remixes of the better known circles.
Also, did they really need to invite miko for Animelo's 2nd day of last year..?
In my opinion she really felt out of place..
Same thing for the "anime", just use a big load of known seiyuus and hope people'll fall for it and buy the DVD's..

More like IOSYS only attracts people with the songs it remixes, so people have different expectations of Touhou.

Actually, I had already known of Marisa Stole the Precious Thing and Stops at the Diseased Part and Melts Qucikly when someone showed me the touhou games, and about a week later I made the connection.

idk about IOSYS's quality declining though. I mean, I wasn't so fond of a couple of their latest albums, but the last one they did was really good. (Giant swing! Giiiiant swing!)

How is 12? I tried to run it in Virtualbox but it just goes to 100% CPU and the window never comes up. I got the GST though! Haven't listened to it yet.

Am listening to the GST now, the first few songs are a bit boring, but the later ones are nice. Yozora no UFO Romance is good! (Extra Stage theme) 100 remixes incoming...!

12 is okay. I'm not a big fan of the UFO system, but it actually makes the game really easy. The lives you lose from chasing around the UFOs can easily be regained by getting them. I maxed out my bombs & lives on my second playthrough on easy (when I also 1cc'd it, which I would have done my first playthrough if I had known which bullets would curve),

I don't know about 12.3 yet because I'm not going to play it until I figure out how to turn off the weather system (hate hate hate)

But isn't the weather system kinda, ya know, story-important? xD

So far I've unlocked a couple of characters in 12.3, actually got China's arcade mode on pause right now. Finished Patchy's a couple minutes ago on easy-easy. Doing china's as easy-normal. (easy as the config set up, normal as the before starting arcade select thingy) Always using the default deck, since I'll figure out what's in what later.

Also, I think there's one new character, dunno what her name is, but she's got the cape with the stars in it. Pretty spiffy. She was the end boss of Patchy's arcade. Np wait, suwako was after the new girl.

In my opinion ZUN's running out of inspiration, random bullet patterns, usage of big ugly objects and lame uninspired bosses make Touhou 12 meh'ish.

Also, 12.3 doesn't really live up to it's delayed update; dumber AI than SWR.
Way too easy story mode, lame boring new spellcards and the addition of uninspired, useless and broken characters.

Also, weather was only the main gimmick of Scarlet Weather Rhapsofy.

That seems kind of cynical. The final boss of UFO is badass.

Also lol I just downloaded the "unlock all characters & 4 of each card" patch cause I'm a lazy bastard

12.3 feels like 10.5.2 to me >_> but I suppose that's a good thing, I feel perfectly normal playing as patchouli.
