I usually don't do these, but...
« on: April 05, 2012, 05:41:54 am »
What the heck? May as well do this Q&A thing. Or some of it, anyway.

Personal Info:

Sex: Male
Country of Origin: USA
Age (upon joining): 26
Hobbies: Games, anime, manga, light novels, visual novels. Big ol' nerd, all my life.

=Q&A=

Q: How did you come across this site?
A: No idea. Probably when I was looking for Cinderella Girls info months ago. I bookmarked the thread on my phone.

Q: Why did you join this site?
A: *Shrug* Thought I may as well in case I had questions about some stuff, which I apparently do and will address in the appropriate forum sections.

Q: Do you play it?
A: I'm just really getting into it. I play Cinderella Girls and I recently imported iM@S2 (PS3) and iM@S SP: Perfect Sun. Can't speak Japanese so I'll mostly be fumbling my way through. I had a blast with the PS3 demo even so, so I don't regret the purchases.

Q: Who is your fave idol?
A: Makoto, with Hibiki following very closely behind. Past that, I'm not really sure.

Q: Why is your username "Daverost"?
A: Long, involved story. tl;dr I made it up for an MMO so I wouldn't have to use my usual screennames which would have sounded weird as a character name.

Q: What are you in to right now?
A: Well the biggest kick I've been on lately is iM@S, but I have my standby favorites for games (Disgaea, mostly 3 and 4), manga (Negima), anime (Toradora) and a few other things. I like keeping up with new Vocaloid songs, too. That's one of the highlights of my day.

Q: What are you up to right now?
A: Got home from work about an hour ago. Sucks. I spent about 30% of my time there playing Cinderella Girls, though, so whatever >.>

Q: Do you have any expectations from this site?
A: Nope. Just lookin' to talk with some people every now and again.

=== Other Stuff ===

Anywho, don't know how active I'll be, but I'll be around for sure.

Hey there, welcome! Which part of the US are you from, if you don't mind answering?

A CG player? Man, I remember playing that. Kinda gave up a while ago on that, though. Was fun while it lasted. As for Im@s 2, there's a wiki to help you out.

Reminds me to study my Japanese...

A Makoto fan, huh? Good, my second favorite idol. Would be first if there wasn't Chihaya.

I added it to my profile but didn't realize it didn't show in the sidebar. I'm from Georgia, in the metro-Atlanta area.

I already had that site bookmarked and I've been reading up on it in my spare time. Right now I'm trying to finish my way through Neptunia mk2 (I've finally had time to get back to it today for the first time in two weeks) and when I'm done with it I'll hit up iM@S2. Thanks for checking on me, though.

Right, should have checked up on that. I'm from California, by the way. As for Im@s 2, I regret not playing it more. Still have to finish through a Miki run. Then again, there's:

-Yakuza: Dead Souls
-Resonance of Fate
-Rune Factory Oceans
-Batman: Arkham City

and Hyperdimension Neptunia to finish.

I'd ask you for your favorite Japanese AWA guests, but the list is so sparse it's not even funny. Hopefully last year is a sign they're finally trying.

I follow AWA news and forums from time to time, as it's the only con I go to.  I believe the director once stated the purpose of AWA is something like "for anime fans to get together and have a good time".  So there is less of an emphasis on major guests; the ones they get are the ones they have some sort of connection to, I guess when someone knows someone who knows someone else.

Though attendance is decent, it's not big enough to pull in industry people through sheer size like the West coast cons, ACEN, or Otakon.

Actually last year was my first time going. I pre-registered at the con for this year, though, since I enjoyed it.

I saw something a month or so ago that said it in the top 10 for attendance on the entire North American continent, but yeah, it still can't hold a candle to the big boys out west.

Heh, well it's Atlanta, after all. Not much there, but I still think they've always been able to pull off a few Japanese guests like last year.

The stories I've heard from a local about its formative stages, though... he was actually concerned when they made it to the Sheraton. Why? Because for the first seven or eight years, con goers would trash the place the con was at and not get invited back. He liked the Sheraton, needless to say. ^^

Fun times, though he doesn't go anymore.

... In other news, the Braves lost today. So did the Red Sox. Wherever I've heard this story before, I don't wanna hear it again.

Since my recollection doesn't match your story, I went and dug up my old con programs.  Turns out I didn't start attending until the 10th year (2004), by which time AWA was located in the Galleria (and that hotel whose name escapes me).  It's remained there ever since, and only last year put some overflow events in the hotel across the street.  One old program refers to the Galleria as being the sixth move, so I guess places #1-5 were vacated due to what you said and not from getting too large?  I'm pretty sure that the current location has enough con staffers and cops to whoop ass if things get out of hand.  I am surprised that it's possible for a con to survive being thrown out that many times- most people would just give up.

For what it's worth, I'm living and working here too, though I don't advertise it because I hate the drivers here and would ditch this place if I were to go unemployed for a lengthy period of time.

Well, it's just hearsay, but he says he's been going since year two, so eh. I think one year there was a baby convention going on in the same place. Wonder what they thought. ^^

Oh, and that hotel you refer to is the Sheraton. They've stayed there for a while, and I think those wild years are behind them. Honestly, if AWA 10 was in 2004, then year seven or eight is probably when people started shaping up, but the first five or six? Yeah, I really get that feeling from what he's told me.

I remember a baby convention.  I don't think they liked us.  I don't think the log cabin convention liked us either- their showroom was pretty sparse and they were obscured by all the people walking around.  Of course, AWA is now large enough that it occupies all the showrooms and meeting rooms, and a bit of the Galleria Center.
