I usually don't do these, but...

I saw something a month or so ago that said it in the top 10 for attendance on the entire North American continent, but yeah, it still can't hold a candle to the big boys out west.

Heh, well it's Atlanta, after all. Not much there, but I still think they've always been able to pull off a few Japanese guests like last year.

The stories I've heard from a local about its formative stages, though... he was actually concerned when they made it to the Sheraton. Why? Because for the first seven or eight years, con goers would trash the place the con was at and not get invited back. He liked the Sheraton, needless to say. ^^

Fun times, though he doesn't go anymore.

... In other news, the Braves lost today. So did the Red Sox. Wherever I've heard this story before, I don't wanna hear it again.

Since my recollection doesn't match your story, I went and dug up my old con programs.  Turns out I didn't start attending until the 10th year (2004), by which time AWA was located in the Galleria (and that hotel whose name escapes me).  It's remained there ever since, and only last year put some overflow events in the hotel across the street.  One old program refers to the Galleria as being the sixth move, so I guess places #1-5 were vacated due to what you said and not from getting too large?  I'm pretty sure that the current location has enough con staffers and cops to whoop ass if things get out of hand.  I am surprised that it's possible for a con to survive being thrown out that many times- most people would just give up.

For what it's worth, I'm living and working here too, though I don't advertise it because I hate the drivers here and would ditch this place if I were to go unemployed for a lengthy period of time.

Well, it's just hearsay, but he says he's been going since year two, so eh. I think one year there was a baby convention going on in the same place. Wonder what they thought. ^^

Oh, and that hotel you refer to is the Sheraton. They've stayed there for a while, and I think those wild years are behind them. Honestly, if AWA 10 was in 2004, then year seven or eight is probably when people started shaping up, but the first five or six? Yeah, I really get that feeling from what he's told me.

I remember a baby convention.  I don't think they liked us.  I don't think the log cabin convention liked us either- their showroom was pretty sparse and they were obscured by all the people walking around.  Of course, AWA is now large enough that it occupies all the showrooms and meeting rooms, and a bit of the Galleria Center.

OT: Welcome to Project Imas?
