Tin foil is cheap but will look crappy and will eventually come off after just walking around.

Edit: I've now found the perfect solution for the metal boots. I found an American guy living in Japan who is getting his doctorate focusing in cosplay. He showed on his youtube channel how he makes armor out of foam and then layers it with vinyl. It looks really realistic. So I can mark that down as another problem solved. Now I just have to try it.
