Metal straps might be okay at most places if the metal isn't that tough and didn't poke, but no matter how you slice it, metal... can hurt if you kick someone with it, even accidentally. You might want to look around at con rules and stuff to see if that stuff's okay. I think I remember one con banning any sort of metal that wasn't a button or a buckle once. Not trying to discourage you or anything, just saying some places might not take too kindly to that stuff.

... I knew a guy that liked doing fiberglass stuff, but I'm not sure how that would pan out in this case.

Yeah I wasn't thinking of doing actual metal. Metal work is not my specialty after all.
That's why I'm thinking of going with a fiberglass or fabric based boot cover.

Cael K.:
Ah, sorry. With all that talk of metal and crafting armor, I must've gone into RPG mode. ^^

Cael is not a craftsman. I put my skill points elsewhere. ^^;;

Really? I've only heard about weapons ban, and even that is unless they are cosplay props reported to the organisators before con/while buying the idents (only talking about melee ones ofc.).

But then again, I have never been on any big conventions like you have in US (or just "more in the west")...

ROFL. Must gather some metals and gain some experience before I do things like that.
But yeah just some fabric and/or fiberglass for now.

Yeah...Well it's extremely costly.
Besides...I don't know anything about metal working nor have an appropriate workshop to be making metal boots.

And dancing in those. *cringe*
Which leads me to my next point....

Even though the iDOLM@STER accessories are extremely unrealistic, it still kind of defies reason to dance in metal boots which leads me to believe if it was real they would be some kind of boot covers.

Idol_Hearts:
Boots- Would tin foil give the boots a metal look? But even so, that would be a lot of tin foil.
