Elixir:

--- Quote from: Accoun on June 14, 2012, 11:11:40 am ---Deathadder is actually known as the only worthwile Razer mouse (sadly, because I could use the additional buttons on Naga in some graphic/music/etc. programs, but the thing itself is pretty meh). From what I've heard,  their mousepads are supposed to be among the best ones. And that's all for this "gaming gear" company... ::)
But yeah, Razer is the Apple of gaming accesories and most of their products are just marketing and Deathadder's good opinions. At such price I'd rather buy a Logitech...

Oh, and isn't Logitech's G series also supposed to be "gaming gear"? ;-p

What Razer mousepads are you talking about?

Also yeah, G9 falls under the gaming advertisement gimmick as well, with "weights" and "profiles". They're just crap I don't use. I like the ability to physically modify the mousewheel to fluid or jagged, and the G9's right click is much more tactile than that of the Deathadder. The only disadvantage I'd say is the thumb buttons, which are way smaller than the Deathadder's, and don't feel as accessible.

Oh.

And the G9 doesn't require software. The first two Deathadders I had died, sending both back until one of them stopped malfunctioning.

Hey Elixir, I'm thinking of picking up an Onza.  What's your opinion on it?  I'm thinking of siwtching to it to get the two extra macro buttons for use in Battlefield 3 but I'm wondering if the better D-pad and adjustable thumbsticks are good for STGs.  I've always had trouble deciding whether I liked pad or arcade sticks better.

Absolutely not. The dpad and well, the entire controller, were made for console FPS in mind.

The Onza's dpad is not really even a dpad, because it's made up of buttons. It's done so you can choose weapons in FPS. I couldn't fluidly use this like a Saturn pad (which I'm almost always using as it's my preferred controller), and I gave up almost immediately trying to play Castlevania HD, Bomberman, and any shmups with this. Dpad itself is a total write-off.

Analogues are nice, you can twist them making them loose or tighten them (in notches) to make them stiffer. Buttons are mechanical, but I felt like they were too close to the controller, lacking depth. If they were perhaps as large as the regular 360 controller's buttons, then sure. But they're not, they're much smaller and much lower to the case of the controller. I also had an issue with the triggers, because they're "pointy" and curve at an abrupt angle, unlike the 360 controller which only has a small concave curve.

The newer Slim 360 controllers actually have a much better dpad, but years of people claiming the 360's dpad being awful seem to overlook this fact. In fact, I would go as far as to say that the bundled Slim 360 controllers are better than the Onza.

On the bright side, the controller had a nice matte finish and the adjustable analogue sticks were useful in 3D retail releases, like Bayonetta. I can't really recommend the Onza though, I ended up selling mine.

SakuraMaxX:
I wasn't even aware that the 360 Slim controller had a different D-pad until you mentioned it, but now I'm seeing that it is in fact tighter and much better than my old wired controller.  I'm going to have trouble deciding on an Onza now.  Those two macro buttons could really come in handy since some of the buttons are extremely inaccessible as compared to when playing on keyboard (the spot button, which needs to be spammed a lot in a jet, it on the select button, while it's defaulted as the Q button on PC).  Thanks for your advice.

Scotty:
The triggers on the Onza are actually made for racing in mind. There's a lot of travel between full depression and no input, so it's less suited for FPS and more so for Racing.
