Books: What have you been reading?
« on: January 20, 2012, 08:49:55 am »
I don't think that there's a thread for this, so...

What books have you been reading? Doesn't matter if they're for learning or for recreation.

For me, I've been reading textbooks on World, Western Civilization, and Modern Middle East History, as well as one for Abnormal Psychology.

I've also finished reading Harry Turtledove's The Guns of the South. It's an alternate history account of the American Civil War in which people from the future give AK-47's to the Confederate Army. The Confederates win, and now the new nation of the Confederate States of America has to deal with the issue of slavery, the technology given, and the intentions of the people that gave them such weapons.

Lately i'v been "reading" Minna no Nihongo, a textbook to learn japanese

My last recreational reading was The Wavering of Haruhi Suzumiya

Well, and currently i'm also reading/playing Clannad, as it's a visual novel i'd say you could call it reading, although it isn't a book

a lot of manga, can't even remember which ones, and of course all kinds of chemistry/biochemistry and cellbiology lecture scripts, exams are coming up. But generally a trend among science students, we tend to read less outside of the spectre of our studies ^^;

I am currently reading some of the General Fiction, Non-Fiction, Humor and some textbooks, mainly to learn and write Japanese.

Currently, I read Arnel Aquitania's 'To Kill a Angry Bird' and 'Read, Write Japanese'.

Currently reading the Steve Jobs biography, EVE: Templar One, and The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.  One of my most used application on my iPad seems to be the BBC News application, so I've been making a better attempt to keep up with the news lately too.

Various video game instruction manuals.

I'd also be reading Brave Story if I weren't so lazy.

Fictionwise, I've recently finished The Dragon Waiting (John M. Ford) as well as The Broken Sword (Poul Anderson). I'm currently re-reading The Complete Sherlock Holmes, and I'm of the reasonable assumption that most people know who wrote that.

Non-fictionwise, Byzantium (Judith Herrin) was something I found pretty interesting... I also read a short little summary book of world mythology, aptly named World Mythology (Parragon Books), in addition to Ancient Rome: The Rise and Fall of an Empire (Simon Baker), which was fairly informative.

One of my most used application on my iPad seems to be the BBC News application, so I've been making a better attempt to keep up with the news lately too.

Anything of note? I hardly ever keep up with the news, which is quite an abysmal trait for a Politics student.

Which episode of which show?

I've been slacking on reading, but I'm eagerly awaiting the 4th Book Girl novel.  Once it gets here, I'll probably tear into it.

Just finished a book by Yukio Mishima, Spring Storm. Interesting read, at least. Other than that, I've been reading textbooks and subtitles from games.

Tender Is The Night by F.Scott Fitzgerald.

It's the second book I've read by him (reading it for lit class)...I don't like it as much as The Great Gatsby.
