It didn't play nice with my mobile browser most of the time, so I played it on desktop Chrome using cTouch r3.  You weren't missing out on much, but it was a neat little thing for a few minutes (or a few hours, from some of the people I saw on Twitter posting screencaps from it for the whole duration of the event).

So issues with it weren't uncommon then. I was running Safari on an iPhone 5S and got nothing.

I think it's mainly the gimmick that each idol brings. Not in the sense that what gimmick people like most, but how fans can interpret those gimmicks and make themselves like the girls. A good example would be Anzu and Kirari. Both are 17 but each stand on the opposite ends of the height scale. When fans caught on to this, they basically paired the two on the spot. Or how about Kaede's puns? Or Miku's cat girl-ness but dislike for fish? Or how Minami always ends in sexy idol clothing, etc.

It is as MetalPredator have concluded. How popularity worked in CG, in all my time of observing fanart, is how they can turn a character into their own target of affection, chew toy, sex symbol, etc., using whatever data Namco gave us about the character. The more they can work with, the more people will talk about her, and thus making her more popular. It's also worth noting how much they like a character's traits, like the shy trait that most characters have, or Shizuku's beach balls, etc. Stereotypical traits in personality still apply here, but for the fanbase, it's a matter of what are the exciting traits they can exploit.

Does it mean that Mayu isn't really a yandere, it's just fans' imagination?

By definition, she has most traits. But she's not Yuno Gasai-yandere (though fans may want that).

Mayu has done many yandere things so far, but she hasn't officially gone to the "extreme" levels yet. That is to say:

* She hasn't threatened the Producer with a weapon or violent harm to keep him "faithful" to her.

* She hasn't kidnapped the Producer and locked him a basement and/or closet.

* She hasn't killed other idols.

Her fans would like her to do those things, and there's art work of her doing it, but it's doubtful Namco-Bandai would officially cross those lines. However she does skirt the edge. In her drama CD, she was beginning to go crazy (with ominous background music), but the Producer snapped her out of it before anything bad occurred.

So yea... she's a yandere, but iM@S being what it is, won't let her go 100% insane with the mass murder and destruction phase.

Or maybe it's better to think, that unlike most yandere love interests, Producer-san knows how to keep his under control.

Judging from the fact that they used footage from the PV may suggest that the main focus will be on the 30 idols that are voiced. Maybe the others can have random cameos or something.

I just REALLY hope A-1 doesn't pull a Blazblue Alter Memory. That show was AWFUL and I don't want this getting similar treatment.
