Every single time lately I'm surprised by the Passion picks. Like, how is it that Yuko, someone who I haven't seen any fanart of at all (Aiko had the barrel joke going on regarding her measurements, so she's sort of an in-joke like Mizuki is I guess) has a CD while Yui, Yuki, and ESPECIALLY Shizuku don't?

Not surprised by the rest of the picks, although I'm surprised it took this long for Nao and Karen to get CDs.

Yeah, Passion does have a tendency to go for Unexpected Characters (TvTropes lingo FTW) when some highly popular characters like the ones you mentioned don't get much. (Wasn't Natalia one of the first to get a Rare card?) Nao and Karen were fairly predictable since they are friends with Rin Shibuya, the game's poster girl, and they, along with Syoko (and Nina and Momoka, who oddly enough were not announced for the sixth batch), have been teased since the Animated PV that came out in November.

Aiko Barrel Jokes? Please link! XD!

NEW BATCH INCOMING!!

CM 026 Syoko Hoshi
CM 027 Nao Kamiya
CM 028 Karen Hojo
CM 029 Sae Kobayakawa
CM 030 Yuko Hori

Momoka and Nina are probably planned for later. But yeah, Sae was going to get a CD sooner or later, it was destined.

Yuko surprised me on this, to be honest. The rest, I can understand. If I have to try and put a reason in it, I have to guess that the Passion-type is the least popular type in the game, personality-wise. The last election showed how Cool-types dominated the general fanbase opinion, with Cute coming at a far second. Passion-type are probably not that standout among the fans. And since they're following a formula as we've talk about waaay back, Namco must've decided to just give the idols who are popular and interesting enough from the Passion group and give them the CD slots.

That said, I'm expecting they have assigned a well-known seiyuu for Yuko to help in their sales. Personality-wise, Yuko's interesting enough, so it's either they're taking a gamble or there's something the people of this forum missed (and I can't answer that because I dunno too). I'm not saying that everyone else is not as interesting, but like I said, it's a gamble, and Namco placed Yuko on the table.

As for Natalia, they probably haven't found a seiyuu who can do her justice and/or get her for a fair talent fee.

But hey, that's just a theory.

Very believable theory. Although this wasn't much of the case back in 2012, when they dominated four out of the five top spots, with Airi winning the vote. Even then, the only truly stick out Passion types in terms of the fanbase are (from what I've seen) Mio, the Jougasaki Sisters, Kirari, and Shizuku. (I can think of two big reasons as to why Shizuku is popular.)

Also, you got a point when it comes to Natalia. Not many seiyuu that I actually know about (I'm much more knowledgeable about American Voice Actors, anyway) can pull of Brazilian Foreigner with broken Japanese. And Sushi. :p

The barrel joke came from Aiko's measurements, she's basically a line straight down.

I think that is a good point regarding their picks for passion. Even when the game started, it was always much less popular than the other types... So I think their focus for those picks is less popularity now- since all the most popular girls like the Jougasaki sisters, Kirari, and Airi have gotten CDs- and more who they can get an interesting song and a seiyuu for.

Unrelated, but I'd like to applaud whoever worked on this, because... Wow.

That. Is. BRILLIANT! X'D!

Yuko does seem like an interesting character to try out in terms of giving her a song and voice. Guess I'll wait till the previews. Syoko, on the other hand, is one I've been wanting for a while because iM@S and Death Metal!

Also, people on TvTropes have quite a lot of time on their hands. Thing is, it's STILL not finished!

Syoko sounds fun, but I don't care about the others at all.

Looks like we have all the VA's for the next batch.

Syoko Hoshi: Satsumi Matsuda
Nao Kamiya: Eriko Matsui
Karen Houjou: Mai Fuchigami
Sae Kobayakawa: Rikka Tachibana
Yuko Hori: Eri Suzuki

Chihiro Senkawa is Rina Satou.

On the whole who's a popular Passion idol thing... from what I've seen there's been Takumi Mukai and Shizuku Oikawa. Of course, it's easy to argue that both of them have been desired for being the respective #2 and #1 idols for their... ahem... chest assets. I wouldn't mind hearing an Oikawa drama CD though. Her cow fetish has potential... "Moo♪"

However if I could pick the next Master Collection idol, I'd choose Fumika Sagisawa or Nono Morikubo. Girls with an emotionally broken persona are my moe kryptonite.

Yuko's VA has no prior experience whatsoever. They really are taking a gamble with her...

Karen and Nao are the ones that I really wanted to get CDs, and now that they're coming up I don't know who's mildly popular that I would like to see a CD for. Maybe Yui or Yuki? I'd love a Fuuka CD but that's never happening.

I like it when they get people with no/barely any experience.  Look at Riina's seiyuu and how she's turning out.

Shizuku is one character that I am appalled hasn't gotten a CD yet due to how popular she is with fans (even if for all the wrong reasons...) and Takumi would be a very interesting character to try out.

Nono does seem highly possible due to Syoko getting her CD and Nono is usually seen with Syoko and Mirei (who I can also see getting a CD eventually). Its sorta the same deal as Nao and Karen and Uzuki and Mio. Rin got her CD, so why not the four people she's usually seen with?

Fumika is one I'd like to see. She has an interesting character to her with her quiet "leave me alone" persona.

I like it when they get people with no/barely any experience.  Look at Riina's seiyuu and how she's turning out.

It's always nice to see Namco Bandai giving little known VAs something. Idolm@ster is very well-known for jumpstarting many a seiyuu's career. Look at Asami Imai and Chiaki Takahashi.

Actually, I can see Fumika getting a CD. I think she's one of their popular idols to date.

Yuko Hori: Eri Suzuki

I was not expecting that, but at the same time, I guess it's really a gamble now. But I'm sure things will be fine for her. After all, newcomer VAs always do well.

And I bet her song's gonna be well thought out like the previous first-timers.

I guess it's now the waiting game for the previews again. XD

On the topic of idols being skipped over for their Master CD: I wonder what's the deal with Clarice. It's pretty obvious what style her image song would be like/about, given her central concept, and much of her personality is set.

I don't think Clarice is popular enough to get a CD.

Or I would have thought that, but Sae was 49th in the popularity poll.

I think Passion gets all the surprising and random picks, Cute gets a few (who anticipated Sae getting a CD, really), and Cool gets the most obvious ones- there's never been a time where I was like "whoa, they really picked HER for a CD over *insert character*".

Cool tends to dominate in terms of popularity though.
